System can't find/recognise my internal disc drive

Hi everyone,
I have lost my disk drive! I was loading software at the time, the system crashed (went to shadow screen and instructed me to power off manually - some kind of kernal panic/trap I believe).
Since rebooting the system is not finding the drive - when I look it up under system profiler the message reads: 'No burning device was found. If you are using an external device please make sure that it is connected and powered properly.'
The computer is a 2Ghz PPC G5 PowerMac (a 2003 model). From memory the drive is a Pioneer - whatever the standard was at the time (Superdrive I believe?)
Any suggestions on how to get it happening again will be appreciated!
Thanks - m@

The Hatter - many thanks for your advice.
Zapping the PRAM worked (though only on the second attempt - the first try didn't resolve it which is curious perhaps)
Appreciate your help - best wishes for 2009.

A PowerBook G4 can't run Snow Leopard OS 10.6, however, it can run Leopard OS 10.5. But you must use a retail (black) Leopard install DVD.
What does the selling of your MacBook have to do with installing Leopard on your PowerBook?

No, sorry. it won't work with the 2007 MBP. You can replace the optical drive yourself - just go shopping at OWC.

  • The system can't find support team when support message create

    Dear experts,
The system can't find support team when support message create.
    It show the error that
    "<u>The action definition SLFN0001_ADVANCED_SMDIAG has not been assigned a merging technology</u> "
and "<u>the action merging cannot be executed</u>."
Did anyone know how to solve this problem?
    Thanks in advance

    Hey pavienee,
Let me inform you that the action defination SLFN0001_ADVANCED_FIND_PARTNER is responsible for finding the right support team, this is valid if you make relevant settings by assigning partners in ib52 ti the ibase component.
The action log SLFN0001_ADVANCED_SMDIAG has nothing to do with support team determination.... This action is meant for Solman diagnositics.
Please Reward points for usefull answer and revert for any clartifications.
    Regards,
    Anand..

  • My Firefox crashes frequently, but I the system can not find the reports to send for analysis.

My Firefox crashes frequently, The system goes to the grayed screen and sits there until I try to close it, then it says "Firefox not responding" and I close the program. When I go to "about:crashes" it says the report was submitted, but I never get any feedback and when I try to retrieve the report to look at it, the system can never find it. This happens at least twice daily. It keeps searching for a while, then displays the gratituous "Oh Noes. The report could not be located" message. I've included the latest crash report address.

Firefox 4 requires at least OS X 10.5. You can get the latest version of Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
Mozilla are working to prevent Mac users with non-compatible systems from getting the notification about Firefox 4, and also not displaying the "Download Firefox 4" button on http://www.mozilla.com

Call AppleCare (1-1800-APL-CARE) and give then the serial number.  They will send you a new copy of the two disks for shippingand handling of $16 each (I think $16 each).

I tried to reset the ipod but I cannot syncronize the new music I added.
Could it be a problem of the songs or the ipod?

    Hi Klaus1
So, I tried all the suggestions and followed the links - all to no avail.
as you can see, (screenshot below) my iMac is a 21.5 inch late 2009 model which isn't showing in the updates listed above
My system report shows that my Mac has the following:
I reset the PRAM and the SMC - still have the same error message when I try to burn discs. I've used both CD's and DVD's and tried with my external Discwriter too.
    Any further suggestions??

Look in the folder displayed where you see the arrow. The actual Downloads folder is found in your Home (user) folder.

  • RT: Remote desktop says "can't find a suitable device for drive C"

    Hello,
there is a french post on exactly the same topic, but I can't apply the solution given there.
My problem is the following: I have a remote desktop prepared to work as RT target. It has been checked for compatibility, the hard drive has been formatted in FAT32 format, it has been found by my host and has been assigned a static ip address. I have installed the software I need ( LabView 9.0 RT) using MAX. Now, when I try to boot it with the option "boot using software installed into the hard drive", all I get is the message
"Can't find a suitable device for drive C"
I have reseted the BIOS, have tried formatting the hard drive in the other format, uninstalled and reinstalled the software, tried to start the target pc without the usb stick, but nothing seems to work.
Do you have any ideas about what is going wrong?
    Thank you,
    Samuel
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

So you've got a IDE (and not SATA) hard drive? That should be supported anyway.
That would only confirm my experience... it's hard to find hardware compatible with LV RT. Before buying you cannot know if it's compatible. Once you have it the evaluation tool might tell you it's supported but still it might not work. I tried several motherboards in the last years, most of them did not work.
Your best bet might be to use relatively old hardware.

    Here is another.

    The JDBC 3.0 driver will work in a JDBC 2.0 environment (i.e with J2SE 1.2 or 1.3)
provided you use only JDBC 2.0 features of the driver
