System Center 2012 R2 install: SQL server Data file and log file

This might be a dumb question, but I can't find the answer anywhere.
I'm installing a new instance of System Center 2012 R2 on a new server, I'm stuck on the SQL Server data file section. Everytime I put in a path, it says that tne path does not exist. I'm I supposed to be creating some sort of SQL Server
data file and log file before this installation, I didn't get this prompt when installing System Center 2012 SP1 or hen I upgraded from System Center 2012 SP1 to System Center 2012 R2

Have you reviewed the setup.log?
On a side note, why would you put the database file on the same drive as the OS? That defeats the whole purpose of having a remote SQL Server. Why use a remote SQL Server in the first place.

Could you please check if Windows Installer service is running and is in automatic startup mode.
The other thing is, if you’re running an x64-based SQL instance (64-bit), make sure to select “New Instance” on the Installation Type page, and NOT “Add features to an existing instance”.

System Center 2012 VMM Install Problems

So I have been trying to install System Center 2012 VMM on a fresh instance of Server 2012 R2 Standard. I have insured that all of the prerequisites are installed that are required, but I receive the following errors:

How to design SQL server data file and log file growth

how to design SQL DB data file and log file growth- SQL server 2012
if my data file is having 10 GB sizze and log file is having 5 GB size
what should be the size in MB (not in %) of autogrowth. based on what we have to determine the ideal size of file auto growth.

It's very difficult to give a definitive answer on this. Best principal is to size your database correctly in advance so that you never have to autogrow, of course in reality that isn't always practical.
The setting you use is really dictated by the expected growth in your files. Given that the size is relatively small why not set it to 1gb on the datafile(s) and 512mb on the log file? The important thing is to monitor it on an on-going basis to see if that's
the appropriate amount.
One thing you should do is enable instant file initialization by granting the service account Perform Volume Maintenance tasks in group policy. This will allow the data files to grow quickly when required, details here:

Also, it possible to query the default trace to find autogrowth events, if you wanted you could write an alert/sql job based on this

but the problem is user can change data after disabling the trigger on specific table. so trigger will not fire and user can seamlessly change data.
so guide me what is the best way to capture data change and log them. so no one can bypass the security. please do not tell me disable sa account because i am looking for different approach to capture the change data. is there any secure way exist in sql
server 2005/2008 if yes then please discuss here. thanks

If you have shared SA password with different users you are bound to get these scenarios.Instaed of focussing on how to capture I would like you to talk with different users and only provide them access which is required.Follow policy f minimum privilege
your environement will be less complex .
You can use combination of Logon trigger and CDC to capture it.But again why o make things complex by sharing SA password with many users.

Where is System Center 2012 for download? I see Sp1 and R2

I have a DPM 2010 install that I am going to upgrade to 2012.
After doing a bunch of reading on here and other documentation,
a DPM 2010 -> 2012 in place upgrade is supported
but 2010 -> 2012 Sp1 or R2 is not supported.
Ok fine...Where the hell can i download the plain 2012?!?! i can't find for download on microsoft's site at all.
Can someone help me out with this?!?
Sp1 and R2 i can find all day long, i even find the 2010 eval version but the 2012 without sp1 is nowhere to be seen.

If you are planning to upgrade to 2012 R2, when doing the planning make sure your DPM Install is running on a atleast Server 2008 R2 with SP1, and that your SQL Server that is hosting the DPM Database is running atleast SQL Server 2008 R2
with SP2.
Also make note that if you bring DPM up to 2012 R2 you can for the time being not backup Server 2003 and Server 2008 operating systems.

what is the best way to save data file and log file in a two node cluster environment. i have an active\passive cluster with windows server 2008r2 enterprise and sql server 2008r2. i am new to the environment and i noticed that all system and user databases
including their data and log files are stored in one drive, just curious, what is the best practise in such kinds of scenario, thank you as always for your help.

Is there a way to install System Center 2012 R2 using SQL aliases, and if applicable, which System Center products support this scenario ?
I have it as an acceptance criteria, but I'm not able to make it work.

System Center 2012 Error on Automatic Deployment Rule

I have created and Automatic Deployment Rule to deploy my EndPoint Protection updates. So far, I have been able to deploy the agents, and the Antivirus to all my network computers. The problem I have is when the update rule runs. I have checked the SMSProv.log
file, and this I what I get:

Installing SQL Server 2014 Express package as ClickOnce prerequisite

I'm using clickOnce and deploying an installer with it.
I have tried various settings. Using SQL Server 2008 Express and SQL Server 2012 Express as prerequisite is all ok (I've dowloaded them and set the option of clickonce "download prerequisites from the same path of app").
Now I'm trying to do the same thing with SQL Server 2014 Express.
Since the SQL Server 2014 Express package isn't alredy done line 2008 and 2012 versiones, I'm trying to create it.
I have done and it seems to work, but while installing it gives error number **-2054422506**. It is a very generic error and I don't understand it.
It appears a pop up saying the installation is stopped because it is an error installing SQL Server Express 2014 and to look the log for more infos.
The log only says:

I've copied the SqlExpressChk.exe file from the SQL Server 2012 Express package, hoping it is the same (2008 and 2012 versions seems the same, so I supposed it also for the 2014).
I've delete the part in package.xml about the publicKey, since I don't know it and, further, I think I don't need it.
In the same file, I've inserted custom parameters, first like in the 2008 and 2012 versions, then doing some attempts (without success).
Did anyone have this problem? How did you have manage it?
**NOTE**: I'm using my clickOnce deploy in an empty virtual machine, so there aren't any conflicts o something similar.
More attempts, more failures, always the same error! I'm deleting the optional stuff to study better the core of the xml, but still no success.. does microsoft have a package of sql server 2014 express?

SqlServer usually runs a file (SqlExpressChk.exe) to see if there is already an installation and a sql instance called sqlExpress (for the express installations). Do you know how can do this test with the bootstrapper manifest generator?
I am not able to test it currently, but I assume that will also check whether that has installed.

As Visakh16 suggestted that you can download sql 2008 r2 standard and developer editon.
If you have a subscription associated with your Microsoft account, you can download sql 2008 r2 standard and developer editon from below link, but these two editions are not for free:

Microsoft also provide the evaluation edition for free use of 180 days. This software is for evaluation and testing purposes. The evaluation is available in ISO format. Web, Standard, Enterprise and Datacenter editions are available via the same download:

As per my understanding, you don't have to make all users have CAL. You can install SQL Server Data Tools - Business Intelligence for Visual Studio 2013 as a standalone business intelligence authoring environment or side-by-side with an existing SQL Server
Data Tools installed with SQL Server.
