System center advisor direct agent for non internet facing servers

Hi,
We are using system center advisor preview with direct agent.
Now we have few servers which are non internet facing. How to get these servers connected to advisor direct agent.
Thanks
Manish
Manish

Hi,
From my point of view, without internet they cannot communicate with System Center advisor.
Because Microsoft Azure Operational Insights relies on data that is moved to and from the cloud, if there is no internet connection, we will encounter below error:
Internet connection could not be established. Please check your proxy settings.
The links below should be helpful for you:

  • System Center Advisor Gateway requirements

What kind of machine should we use for the System Center Advisor Gateway?
I can find anything that mentions that.  We dont really want to use one of our mgmt servers.
    Thanks
    Thanks Lance

The purpose of System Center Advisor Gateway  is sending data to the web service and to receive updated configuration information from the web service in behalf of agent. when you plan the Advisor gateway requirement, the file space of the server is
the most critical factor to consider.
    The factors should be consider:
    1) number of agents per gateway
    2) The average size of the data transfer from the agent to gateway per day.
    3) Archival period for keeping data on the gateway
By default each agent uploads CAB files to the gateway twice per day. The size of the CAB files depends on the configuration of the machine (such as number of SQL engines and number databases) and the health of the machine (e.g. the number of alerts generated).
In most cases, the daily upload size is typically less than 100 KB.
e.g. daily upload size: 100KB per agent
          number of agents: 5
          archival period: 5 days(default)
    estimated space required: 5 x 100KB x 5  ~ 2500KB

  • Agents for database and application servers

    hi all,
I have to go to a client site this week to install Gagents onto some database servers, some will be RAC and some application servers. it is on AIX. are there different agents for database and applications? In a RAC cluster do I need an agent per node?
    rgds
    alan

When installing agents in a cluster (read - RAC), during the installation, on one of the screens, you will have the option of picking up all the nodes in the cluster. Else, if you are using a push or agent deploy method, you just have to pass the correct flag (can't remember) and then list all the nodes in the cluster.
To your other questions, you do not need different agents for database, and app servers etc. The only time you would need different agents is when you are installing on different platforms.

  • Target system install problem (SAPINST searching for Non unicode kernel)

    Hi,
I'm currently performing a unicode conversion (from 4.7 to EHP4). I am finished with the upgrade and I'm now in the unicode conversion part.
I have completed the export and selected unicode as the target system. I am done with source system uninstallation and I'm now installing the unicode target system.  I have selected unicode during the parameter selection (it's the default option anyway) but during the part where it will ask for the kernel DVD, it doesn't accept the path of my unicode kernel (and instead looks for the non-unicode kernel)

    Hi Markus,
Thanks for your response. This problem is now resolved. It turns out that there are some remaining files from the old /usr/sap/<> and /sapmnt/SID/exe that were not deleted yet (after uninstalling for non unicode system). I proceeded to delete again these files and ensure that there are no files from the non unicode system

  • Spotify for non internet enable devices

Hi, my idea is basically to look for a way to make spotify available on non internet devices, like the ipod nano por example. I would like to be able to sync my playlists on my ipod or mp3 player direclty from my computer. The new apple music app doesnt do this so I think spotify needs to be a step ahead.

Updated: 2015-07-05Hi, a similar idea has been posted here:

While it's been marked 'Not Right Now', Spotify staff periodically reviews these ideas and may choose to implement it in the future. You may also be interested in reading an explanation why it is not likely to be implemented here.

  • How effective is System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection for Windows?

    Hi,
Is there any thing out there that compares how effective System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection is compared to other AV / Malware solutions?    I have read where MS Security Essentials comes up short of the level of protection compared to
    other solutions.
    Thanks Lance

Didn't mean to propose that MS love (yes we all know that you love MS Jason) post as an answer to your question.
Truth is SCEP may be good at how it works, it doesn't whine to users and it integrates to ConfigMgr. That's where it's good at.  And I get Jason's point there, I'd just like to know what are those "other products" that haven't found the malware
when SCEP did? MS may gather telemetry, but so do all the other players.
There are several companies that do ONLY and ONLY AV products so they put their 100% effort in them, I don't think that AV is the business priority number 1 for MS.
    Check this:
    http://lifehacker.com/microsoft-admits-that-third-party-antivirus-is-more-eff-1441135677
And for your info Security Essentials uses the same AV engine that SCEP does.

I'd go with F-Secure, it's not that expensive and you get some neat features like USB (or any other device for that matter) blocker. And yes, it can be configured to use individual USB sticks and so on..

  • Direct Access for Non Domain Machines

    Hi,
In My IT-infra, there is multiple machines that is out my Office network & Domain..
Can we join these machines in domain via Direct Access implementation ? or for implementing Direct Access we required to join those non domain & out of office network machine to Domain first ?
secondly, can we implement the Direct access without any public certificate purchase, and without any IPV6 configuring in internal network, machines and in servers .currently i am using IPv4  IP on all Machines & Servers.
I have gone through the Direct Access Technet guide but i feel very complex document there ...can you please brief me about direct access implementation in simpale way, i want to implement direct access to join the internet based client machines  to
domain and manage via/for SCCM ...
    Shailendra Dev

Correct, DirectAccess clients must be domain joined. Also, only Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 7 Enterprise, or Windows 8 Enterprise clients are able to be DirectAccess connected, so that may also make a difference to your situation. I see many customers deploy
DirectAccess for those Win7/Win8 domain-joined systems, and then make use of the traditional (RRAS) VPN on the same DirectAccess server for connecting any other operating systems or non-domain-joined machines. Those would just have to launch a manual VPN connection,
where the DirectAccess connections are of course automatically connected.
You don't "have" to use an SSL certificate that you purchased from a public CA, but you really should. It is definitely a best practice to use a trusted public certificate on your DirectAccess server. Further, if you have Windows 8 client computers,
you don't even need to distribute the machine certificates inside your network, but it is also a best practice that you do this anyway, to strengthen the authentication process.
No, you do not need IPv6 inside your network at all for DirectAccess to work.
Sounds like you might be interested in some additional reading on DA, here are the two books available on the subject:

  • Search for non-internet Apps for iPod Touch?

I have an iPod Touch, so I don't always have an internet connection when I am away from my house. I would like to specifically search for apps that don't require an internet connection to run. For example, many of the translation tools rely on Google to translate--I would like a translation app with a built-in dictionary that I can use without having internet access.
Is there a way to specify a search for only self-contained apps (don't rely on internet) when searching iTunes? Or do I need to open the description for each app to see if it relies on an internet connection?

No one answered you, but this is exactly what I am looking for too.
What I have found is that, without an internet connection, the iphone and touch products are little more than a pretty music player. I think they call it 'cloud computing'; focusing data storage and function on remote systems and just using the touch and iphone for access. That appears to be the way their development is going. It works fine when you are always near wifi, but where I work has no wifi and no cell coverage. I've found that for most work tasks, translation, secure documents, gathering data, GPS etc, the PDA or smart phone is a better fit. Those store data and applications locally on the unit itself rather than on the internet somewhere that you won't always be able to access.
With all the storage space on the touch and iphones, you'd think they could give a little of it over to onboard apps and functions, but until they do, at least there is the PDA.

  • System Center 2012 Endpoint Protection for Mac

Has anyone had any experience instlling and using Microsoft's Endpoint for Mac?
I have tried it and am having some difficulty wihen using ARD to control systems that have Endpoint installed.  Communications failures seem to occur and client systems quit responding to the ARD admin.  Eventually the systems do seem to come back but it might take 15 or 20 minutes.  When they have quite responding, the only way to get them back if you do not want to wait thm out is to force a "Power button 10 sec. reset"
The problem does not seem to be completely repeatable in that earlier in the day, I used this same manner of control on another room full of very similar systems and no problems took place.  The problem first surfaced Friday afternoon shortly after Endpoint was installed.  At that time 13 of 26 systems indicated "Communications Failure".  But today, tin he morning things worked as expected but the afternoon resulted in 11 of 23 systems showing the "communications failure".
These clients are all iMac systems running 10.8.4 and have have permissions repairs done to them using ARD if they did not quit responding as mentioned above.
I have found almost no information on Endpoint with the Mac version.  This version, for Mt. Lion seemed to have been released just this past May.  Prior to that there was not a Mt. Lion version available.
Anyone have any experience with this Endpoint version for Mac Mt. Lion version?
