System Center Licensing, SQL Server

We want to implement four System Center 2012 components (SCOM, SCDPM, SCCM, SCVMM). We have 4 SC Datacenter licenses. How do we license the 4 SQL servers we need for these components (as SQL license is included in the SC license)? Should I apply the same
license of SC to SQL during installation? Is it a valid option of licensing the SQL ?
What about the licensing of the operating system (Windows Server 2012 R2) where I am going to install SC components? Can it use the same SC license or does it need one on its own?
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
Megi Shyle

Hi Megi Shyle
System Center 2012 R2 includes a license for SQL Server Standard (if you need to run SQL Server Enterprise you will need to license this separately).
The Windows Server license is not included as part of the System Center 2012 R2 license.
You can find out more about licensing from:
http://www.microsoft.com/licensing/about-licensing/SystemCenter2012-R2.aspx#tab=2
You can also get more information from the
System Center 2012 R2 Licensing Guide and your Microsoft account contact or licensing contact can also provide answers that are specific to your situation.

  • Management Point, System Center License required?

    Hi
If I am setting up a Windows Server as an additional Management point and Distribution Point. Does it need a System Center server license?
    /ALX

No. You only need a license for servers and workstations you want to manage (not the management servers)
    http://www.micromail.com/files/admin/uploads/W285_Field_2_65088.pdf
However, MS licensing is a minefield and all organisations have different benefits. You need to contact your Microsoft License reseller for best information.

  • JDBC system to MS SQL server.

    Hi.
I am trying to create a connection to a MS SQL server using a JDBC system.
I have downloaded the jar files for the MS SQL driver and created a new driver in VA under the jdbc connector service.
How do I add this driver to the JDBCFactory class (com.sapportals.connectors.database)?
When I try to add the newly created driver libary to the loader references under the Resources tab it does not save the entry.

    Hi,
To add new JDBC Drivers, check this:

  • Homogeneous system copy for SQL server 2005

    Hi All,
I am currently investigating for the method to perform system copy for a PI system with SQL server 2005 database. Using the System Copy for SAP Systems Based on NW 7.0 SR2 ABAP+Java as guide, I can see reference to Note 151603. However, I am unable to get a copy of that note. Searching for the note from the official SAP Notes Search area indicated that it is currenytly only avaiable internally.
Would anyone know where I will be able to get a copy of that note?
    Thanks,

PI is version 7.1 (not 7.0) - so you need to use a different system copy guide.

    Hi,
You have two options, you can use DB Connect but you need SAP DBSL for SQL Server 2000 and the DB Client and this could be have a additional cost, or you can use UD Connect, that make the connection with Java, using JCo's and the Driver Java for SQL Server 2000, please review this link: [http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/58f4db47-0501-0010-a2bf-ff01b150fdff|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/sdn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/58f4db47-0501-0010-a2bf-ff01b150fdff]
I recomend if you dont have the SAP DBSL and DB Client for SQL Server 2000 that use UD Connect is really useful.

  • Please clarify license about server managed and configuration manager client ML system center 2012

Could clarify why managed servers License required ,already we bought the configuration manager client ML License ? We are planing to buy system center operation manager 2012

    Hello,
if you wants planing to Monitoring your AD with Exchange Server and you have only one physical Server with for example 2 CPUs and 2 VMs, you need to purchase the System Center Standard 2012 R2 SML for Monitoring your Server environement. However,  if
your AD is a datacenter or for example 4 x Windows Server Standard with 8 VMs than, you need to purchase the System Center datacenter SML.
the System Center SML is licensed per physical Server: one license up to two physical CPUs. if you have for 2 physical Hosts with 2 CPUs each, you need to purchase two System Center licenses.
the only difference between Standard and datacenter is only about virtualization rights
for System Center Operation Manager for your Clients Desktop, you need to purchase the System Center Client Management Suite includes: Operation Manager; Services Manager; Data Protection Manager and Orchestrator.

  • System center sql 2012 remote or local install

Guys I'm testing System Center 2012 R2 right now I plan on installing configuration manager for starters. I would like to ask you guys did you install your sql server instance locally for System Center or do you have a remote SQL server installation that
System Center is using are there any pros for installing a local instance over a remote one?  Also I was reading somewhere that Sytem Center comes with an SQL server license I always assumed that it would come with SQL Server express and not full blown
SQL Server. So with that said does System Center incluse a full blown SQL Server license?

    Hi,
In test environment, typically SQL can be on local instance. However in production environment, you can place SQL on remote as when collocated the site server supports a maximum of 50,000 Clients, and if database server is installed on
a Remote server, the Site-Server supports up to 100,000 Clients.
In System Center 2012, along with any edition of Server Management License you get a run-time instance of SQL Server Standard edition when utilized for the SQL engine used by the System Center components.

  • System center 2012R2 licensing suggestion.

    Hello,
I am reading about system center licensing but getting more and more confused, so any help is greatly appreciated.
I want to implement SCOM to monitor following servers:
win server (90% Virtual machines) - 80 (apprx)
    unix /linux server (50% Virtual machines) -  25
6 Vmware ESX host (3 with 16 and 3 with 24 processor each)
Networking switches and firewall from Dell (looks like scom monitoring is free for them)
and SCCM 2012 R2 with FEP for apprx 1200 WIN 8 client machines
also maintain inventory + FEP for above win servers.
most of my servers have single core CPU, but some of have them 4 and 2-3 have 8 virtual cores.
Now that I understand no license is needed for actual products like SCCM and SCOM, how many and which user cal's do I need in all for my clients together?
    My doubts are:
    - Do I need standard or datacenter approach or can it be mix
    - does the sml's or client machine license covers FEP or is it separate license
    - If I manage a server with both SCCM and SCOM, then 1 need just 1 SMLs not 2.
    - also are they just paper license or do I need to add them in the products.
    Thanks in Advance

    hello,
Sytem Center 2012/2012 R2 is not complexe to understand the licensing model.
for your Servers: you nedd System Center Standard for each physical Server with 2 CPUs to manage 2 VMs.
for example: if you have one Server with 4 CPUs and 6 VMs than you Need 3 System Center Standard or 1 System Center datacenter.
if you have one Server with 2 CPUs and 8 VMs than you Needs: 4 std or 1 datacenter.
    2. for Clients: you Needs 1200 Systen Center Configuration Manager Client mangement License(CML) + 1200 System Center Endpoint Protection as a subscription in open value for example.
    3. if you manage for example one Server with 2 CPUs and 2 VMs with SCCM and SCOM than you Need only 1 System Center Standard while the compenents of System Center 2012 are all included on the std or datacent suites. standalone compenents will no longer
    be sold separately.
    4. you Need to add System Center products on your Server products.
I hope that my Suggestion clear to understand it(my english is not very good!)
    thanks

  • SQL Server 2005 collation type for the Discovery System?

    Greetings,
The SQL Server 2005 Eval 180 day license expired on our Discovery System. I un-installed the Eval copy and installed a licensed SQL Server 2005 EE instance. I searched for the SQL Server collation, and found SAP Note 600027, which recommended Binary order for use with the 850 Multilingual Character Set as the collation.
I attached the existing databases using the script provided with the Discovery system. Started up the SAP ERP instance. I then tried to log into the ERP 300 and got a START_CALL_SICK error message. From the error message details I find, "DB CHECK Wrong Server collation. Perform SQL2005 after upgrade steps. Please see note 126973". Note 126973 seemed to refer me to note 799058. However this talks about upgrading....
It appears to me I simply chose the wrong SQL Server 2005 collation type when installing the licensed coipy of SQL Server.
What collation type should be used?
    Thanks,
    Jay Warling

After reviewing what I did, it appears I neglected to detach the databases before un-installing SQL Server 2005 evaluation copy.
I did stop the ERP system via the SAP MMC before un-installing but did not detach the databases.
I believe the collation is actually correct, but I am stumped as how to proceed with the START_CALL_SICK error message.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jay

  • SQL Server evaluation license expired

I have a discovery system I installed in Feb 2007. Due to other work we've not used the system in a while. I'm resurrecting it and the SQL evaluation license has expired. In reading thru the forum, it's suggested that tiy detach the databases, uninstall the eval and install a licensed copy. Since SQL server qon't start, how do you detach the databases?

I've Installed a licensed SQL Server, attached the databases and am getting an error when I try to log in:
DBCHECK Wrong Server collation perfroms SQL2005 after upgrade steps Please see note 126973
Before I completely hose things up is there something I mssed when I installed the SQL Server?

  • Building New SQL Server To Migrate from Old one and need to figure out how I need to license it.

So my head is spinning on setting up a New SQL Server.
Current setup is Microsoft Server 2003 Standard and Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Standard. Nothing was maintained with Software assurance.
    Environment:
Database is Limited to 2008 R2 Standard as Highest release I can use with it. So I know I need to do a Downgrade.
New Server can Be either Microsoft Server standard 2008 or 2012 x64.
The Domain Controller for right now is going to remain a Machine with Server 2003 Standard x86. It is Licensed with 30 Cals.
    The office Environment:
The Office has any where from 5-7 employees.
They have 3 Office locations and employees are in 1 of the three locations depending on the day.
Between all 3 Offices they have 27 computers.
Employees also can access multiple machines through out the day.
Reception, Checkout and Third employee will be at their own machine.
3 Employees will be accessing their main machine but also float to at the most 6 other machines located in the office these machines are logged in in the morning using their own user name Employees don't login or logout on them throughout the day.
If they are in The Main Office they access the SQL server machine directly.
If they are in one of the two satellite offices the Employees will access the SQL server through the front end running on Terminal Services running on the SQL server.
My New Server will be Either a 4 or 6 core Xeon Processor.
    So the Questions.
Lets say the scenario is I am buying Windows 2012 Server and Cals and Buying SQL 2012 Server and Cals and will be downgrading both to 2008.
How do I need to license Windows Server? How many Cals do I need and what way should they be setup?
How do I need to license SQL Server? By Server? By Core? How Many Cals do I need?
    Thank You.

    Hi,
In addition, basically a downgrade is possible in case the SQL Server editions are the same. Downgrade is only supported in case a downgrade of e.g. SQL2012 Enterprise to SQL2008R2 Enterprise is done.
I have attached a link to the SQL Server 2012 Licensing Reference Guide. Look at “Upgrades, Downgrades and Step-Ups” section of the document and check which version and editions are supported for the downgrade.

  • SQL Server 2012 Licensing Development - Production

I currently have 4 environments dev, qa ,staging and production each has a separate SQL 2012 instance on its own server (4 Instances).  My question is on licensing SQL Server and when developers edition licensing can be used and when it become production
licensing.  For Example:  If developers are working local connecting to development DB and/or local DB.  What is the proper licensing model?  Can I consider these three environments development and not use a SQL Enterprise license?
If so each developer must have an MSDN account for the licensing?   I am a little foggy on when is developers edition becomes SQL Enterprise License.
