System Center Updates Publisher
Hi All,
I'm looking at deploying some Adobe software, specifically Flash, and their download page refers to an alternative mechanism of obtaining the software being System Center Updates Publisher.
I can't find an awful lot on it, so:
1. Is it compatible with CM 2012 R2, and if so is there a resource on enabling/installing it?
2. Is it a better mechanism than just downloading the update and creating an application?
TIA
SCUP 2011 is supported with certain limitations take a look here
http://blogs.technet.com/b/configmgrteam/archive/2013/12/11/system-center-updates-publisher-2011-support-statement-update.aspx
Download Kent Agerlund's install and config guide from here
http://blog.coretech.dk/kea/the-complete-scup-2011-installation-and-configuration-guide/
It's a great addition to ConfigMgr however catalogs that are available for it for free are limited.

System Center Update publisher 2011 command line

Systems Center Update publisher
I have Systems Center 2012 R2 setup and running on a Windows Server 2012 R2 box. I installed update publisher on this same box so I can get the Adobe catalogs and include the adobe updates with my other updates. Update publisher installed just
fine, but I'm running into issues when trying to set it up. Under Options > Update Server > Connect to local update server when I enable it I get the following message when I test the connection:
When I click the "Create" button under Signing Certificate to create a certificate I just keep getting that same pop-up everytime I click it. I read somewhere that 2012 no longer will create self signed certs, but I'm not sure how to get
around this issue. Anyone have any help? Thanks in advance. Here's the info on re-enabling WSUS self-signed cert generation:
http://blogs.technet.com/b/wsus/archive/2013/08/15/wsus-no-longer-issues-self-signed-certificates.aspx
I suggest you don't re-enable this though -- they disabled it for a reason. Go the extra mile, get a PKI smart resource and deploy a PKI.

hi i have planned to deploy firefox latest version vis SCUp (system centre update publisher kindly let me know the silent key to install via scup by disabling automatic updates
jeevanShouldn't you do the following things (see also:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh134743.aspx):
Add Windows Language is French to the top AND;
Change the second AND to an OR;
Add the WMI Query to the new OR (so it's at the same level as the
Windows Version = Windows 7 SP1);
Remove the last OR (as it's not being used anymore).

Does System Center Update Rollup 4 also contain Update Rollup 3 and Update rollupt 2, etc
Hi,
Does System Center SP1 Update Rollup 4 also contain Update Rollup 3 and Update rollupt 2, etc?
Can I go from Update rollup 2 and apply update rollup 4 and get the updates in 3 as well?
Thanks LanceHello!
Yes, the previous updates are included in UR4, so there is no need to install UR3 if you are going from UR2 to UR4.
By the way, the latest update rollup for System Center SP1 is UR5: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2904730/en-us

Updates Publisher 2011 + SCCM 2012 - no signing certificate every time (Bug?)
Hello everybody,
I got a strange problem with the System Center Updates Publisher 2011 which I want to use with SCCM 2012 (SP1).
Some weeks ago I was able to enable the publishing on the update server (SCUP + SCCM + WSUS are the same machine), to create a self signed certificate and to astablish the connection to the WSUS server.
Some weeks later the SCUP seems to "forgot" the certificate and the option "Enable publishing to an update server" is disabled.
If I try to reactivate this option then I can not create a new self signed certificate anymore.
I get always the "... test connection succeeded. However, no signing certificate was detected ..." dialog.
I also can not choose the existing certificate (.pfx) file ("No certificate information available").
Is this a bug?
Can I deinstall the SCUP completely and create a new certificate again?Did you open SCUP as administrator? But Yes, you can reinstall SCUP and create another cert or use the existing cert.

Mastering ConfigMgr 2012 The Fundamentals -
I just applied update:
Update Rollup 3 for Microsoft System Center 2012 R2 - Virtual Machine Manager (KB2965413)
and (KB2965414) but it failed to install.
After a reboot I could not login to the VMM and the service would not start

After I removed the update the VMM was able to start, no reboot required.
When I have time I will try to apply both updates again successfully and see if the issue still occurs.
Vista Ultimate Dell XPS M1330FYI. I've had the same issue after I installed Update Rollup 3 (KB2965413), seeing the exact same error on event log. Tried to start the service manually, getting service unable to start error. This is a machine running
with Windows Server 2012 Standard. Solution for me is simple. I just install
KB2965414 (Update Rollup 3 for SCVMM 2012 R2), reboot the server, and the SCVMM service auto start up by itself. -

DPM 2012 R2: Remove Recovery Points -
I recently installed Update Rollup 3 for System Center Data Protection Manager 2012 R2.
As part of the update I updated all DPM Agents, including the ones on our Hyper-V Servers (which are part of a cluster). I also rebooted every DPM Protected Servers. After reboot all Hyper-V Servers raise a warning that the VssNullProvider service has stopped.
Backup seems to work properly. I can start the VssNullProvider service manually. But after the next backup the service it is stopped again. Exactly the same issue occurs on our test Hyper-V Cluster. All our Hyper-V Servers run Windows Server 2012 R2 and
we use System Center Virtual Machine Manager 2012 R2.
Something is not ok with Update Rollup 3. Any suggestions?

Systems Center and WSUS - Deploying updates
Hi
I'm having a bit of a nightmare trying to get a client to update from Systems Center when using WSUS.
I've installed and downloaded on Systems Center the necessary updates etc but the test PC had difficulty downloading the updates.
Upon research I had put in the group policy the name and port of the server in the "Specify intranet Microsoft Update service location" but apparently this was wrong as it uses the configuration manager and software update point, so the group policy
intranet entry is now disabled.
The PC then updated and I thought that it was working. However upon looking further, I believe that all that is happening is the PC is going direct out to the internet for the updates instead! There is no status change in the configuration
management console (in Deployments it is saying Unknown) and there were far more updates being applied than I'd configured in the Software Update Group.
My sanity is close to breaking as this seems far more complex than it should be.
What should I have in the Group Policy? What logs are most useful in helping me figure out what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks for any help. The only thing that is essential is that you should not have a GPO pointing to a previous WSUS server. If this is in place then ConfigMgr will ignore all updates deployments. It is best practise to implement a GPO to actually disable automatic updates (although
this is not mandatory).
The following logs will give you a complete understanding of what is happening on a client:

I'm installing software that will require a reboot. I would like to use the Windows Update dialogue box to prompt users to reboot.
Or a reboot dialogue box that mimics System Center Software Center Notification box
Does anyone know of a way to use the System Center Client notification or the Windows update box to force a reboot. This is familiar to my users and will not freak them outThe Coretech Shutdown Tool is free, excellent and would satisfy your requirement.

Hi guys
I am currently performing a distributed, complex upgrade with a customer:
4 management servers (1 being RMS), both databases (OM & DW) on a single SQL Server (2008 R2 SP2)
We moved over the RMS role to another server and decomissioned the old one due to it being a 2003 server.
Then we upgraded all non-RMS management servers.
We had some issues with them as well (same error in the log), but when we reinstalled the 2007 R2 binaries & patches and redid the upgrade it came through fine.
The RMS however keeps throwing the same error. Things I tried:
- Full clean of the server including momclean and msizap, then reinstall the RMS and retry the upgrade
- Reregister of the msiexec server
I am suspecting some issues with assemblies and / or GAC, but no clear proof on that, only that it crashes after performing assembly operations.
Below an extract from the RemoveMOMServer.log (the error occurs when uninstalling SCOM 2007 R2)
Can anyone help out or give me some pointers on possible causes?
Many thanks in advance!

SCUP Update publish process getting fail for DELL Catalog.
I am able to publish Adobe update under SCUP 2011 but Dell updates are getting fail.
from SCUP log file, came to know that issue is due to ftp based URL as it doesn't able to download that binary.
PublishItem: Download Content: Failed to download file 'ftp://ftp.dell.com/FOLDER02315758M/1/SAS-Non-RAID_Driver_4HW8X_WN32_2.50.75.01_A00.EXE'.$$<Updates Publisher><Wed Feb 25 18:26:0.277 2015.4><thread=4>
Same URL is not working in browser as well, it's getting timeout there. If I fire same URL with http then it prompt for actual binary.
ftp specific entry is also present under registry.
Does any one face similar kind of behavior? any solution?Hi Nky85,
>>Same URL is not working in browser as well, it's getting timeout there.
It seems that some device block the FTP traffic. Please check if any firewall or filter block the ftp traffic from ftp.dell.com.
I tested this URL with the broswer in my lab, it works. Here is the screenshot of my lab:
Besides, due to this question is more related to the SCUP, to get better help, please post your question on the System Center forum below:
