System check fails on install

The first time I tried to install Flash CS4 trial (on Vista
Ultimate 32bit as admin) it crashed my computer. Hard. I wasn't
able to load Windows due to "registry corrupted or missing".
Fixed all that (a lot of bad data linked to the Flash
install) and manually deleted all the files I could find (some were
unrecoverable) since I was unable to run uninstall.
Tried it again. Now I get this error during install:
Critical errors were found in setup for Adobe Flash CS4:
undefined
The installer database in invalid: please re-install the
product from the original media
I can't uninstall and have to manually delete files. I tried
installing twice with the same results.
Ideas?

Hi Christine,
You could give the "Adobe CS4 Clean Script" a try; it might
help You resolve the installation problem You experienced by the

  • "FILESYSTEM CHECK FAILED" - fresh install, clean partition

    Hi,
I just installed Arch on my Asus EEE 701SD. Since GRUB is extremely slow (takes about 30-45 seconds from "loading..." to menu) I've set up my /boot on a separate flash drive. However, booting the new installation gives me the "FILESYSTEM CHECK FAILED" + maintenance shell. I've tried running fsck with various options but none of it has helped. Apparently, the partition is clean so I'm not quite sure what's going on. Any suggestions?
    Cheers:)

The hook "usb" should work too, so I don't think we're on the right track here. But since it doesn't hurt you can add the actual kernel modules to the modules= line:
usbcore ehci-hcd (and/or uhci-hcd) usb-storage and maybe the filesystem used (and it's dependencies like ciphers).
    Greets,
    demian
    // I guess I'm a slow typer. Why don't you show us your /etc/fstab?
From what you've written the system shouldn't be able to boot since there's no fstab entry for /boot. Maybe I misunderstood you.

I am able to install oracle ebs successfully, but not able to open the home page. Error coming is "ip address not found".Can you ping the IP address, hostname.domainname?
According to me the issue is that my server is on workgroup and not on any domain. I have given the domain name When installer was asking for domain name. I have also modified the host file for the same.Could you please post the contents of the hosts file here (you may edit the hostname/domainname values to something different as we need to see the format of the entries).
    Now i have two options:
    1. If i put the server on the domain which is passed to installer when asked.
    2. Now, what all i can do to login on application with keeping the server on workgroup. You do not have to join any domain, and you can simply set this from:
    - Right click on 'My Computer' > Properties > 'Computer Name' > Change
    - Set 'Computer Name' to <hostname>
    - Click on More
    - Set a 'Primary DNS Suffix of this Computer' to <domainname.com>
thanks for your prompt reply to my previous post. I really admire your work on forums. You are welcome :)

  • ThinkPad Yoga 12 System Update fails to install fixes

I have been having the famous floating cursor problem using OneLink Doc and external monitor, mouse and keyboard. So I decided to run System Update (5.06.0034) to see if anything appropriate would inbstall. SU downloaded 4 fixes, and I selected all to install. The fixes downloaded, installation began and all fixes immediately showed "installation failed".
Therer was a manual update available in the failure message, but clicking on it did not cause anything to happen.
    The fixes displayed were
    - Lenovo Power Management Driver 1.67.10.4002
    - Lenovo Settings Dependency Package 2.3.3.41
    - Installed camera Driver for Realtek 6.2.9200.10252
    - ThinkPad BIOS Update (non-Vpro) 1.24.1.24
I went to downloads and downloaded and manually installed Lenovo Power Management Driver and Lenovo Settings Dependency Package (restarts required).
I ran SU and it showed only the BIOS update needed. I tried again to install and got the same failure.
I went back to downloads and the only BIOS update was 1.08, not 1.24.1.24. I tried to install it anyway and the install failed due to  "The process does not recognize this system. The process has been canceled."
I tried uninstalling SU and reinstalling and restart, I ran SU, downloaded and tried to install the BIOS and SU immediately displayed "installation failed".
So I have a couple of problems. SU is not working and I don't know where to look to try to determine the installation problem. The BIOS update info does not match up between SU and the downloads page.
Any ideas on where to look for the SU failure to install fixes? Do I need the BIOS?. I checked and my current BIOS shows as LENOVO GQET43WW (1.23), 1/21/2015.

    Dear all,
after about three of years of running, one of my Xsan filesystems died. The fsm process stops running after about 2 minutes in running state. A filesystem check with cvfsck -w -v <Name> ends with:

Fatal: Cannot build inode tracking tree - Input/output error.
I cannot see any misbehaviour of the hardware itself. RAID Admin is green everywhere.
The filesystem size is about 17 TB and the data is quite important. Is there any way to proceed without re-formatting?

  • System restore. failed driver install

Was having issues with the laptop so decided to do a full factory reset using the built in windows HP recovery. This failed so then used the recovery discs provided and worked to a point.
Formats OK, copies files OK, asks for the driver discs and does that (appears so) OK. Reboots and installs windows then HP software and drivers. What seems to be forever system reboots and then tells me its failed due to no drivers.
I have attempted this now 4/times with same result. These discs were provided by HP as my drive failed previously so should be the correct discs. This is the only HP machine and the only HP discs I have ever had.
Currently the machine is useless, unable to do anything. No way to get to desktop to manually install drivers after. Very annoying to say the least

Test the hard drive and memory modules, run the extended and quick tests, post back any errors or messages

  • Preinstall check failed - Unable to install SAP HANA Client

    Hi all,
Recently I had to format my system and after loading the Windows 8 I downloaded the SAP HANA Client, SAP HANA Studio and SAP HANA JDBC Drivers for re-distribution from https://hanadeveditionsapicl.hana.ondemand.com/hanadevedition/ into the default folder which is C:Programfiles:SAP HANA Client and Studio
I installed the client and then the studio and then clicked on the executable ngdbc.jar file and clicked on ok.
Then I went to SAP HANA 70 client win32 folder and clicked on the hdbsetup to load client. I am getting the following error:
    Preinstall check failed
SDB::Install::System::getMountPointWin: Malformed file path normalization: "ngdbc.jar"
Can any one please explain what this error is and how do I fix this error. I searched in the forum but could not find anything related to this error.
    Thank you.
    Regards
    Pavan.

I am posting the results of my issues here, to be sure this is documented.
    Close all applications
Uninstall SAP/b1 and all related components
    Delete folder X:\Program Files\sap
    Delete folder X:\Program Files (x86)\sap
Open REGEDIT and clean out all parent keys where "HANA" appears
    Install the SAP/b1 client first!
Run the HANA Client installation "...as Administrator"
When the installation runs, it should default to "Install new"
Make sure you set/select the folder path properly to show X:\Program Files\sap\hdbclient
Once the clean-up was finished and the install was restarted, it installed without any issues.
    Thanks,
    ~ terry o.

  • [solved] Filesystem check fail - Cannot access LVM Logical Volumes

I am getting a "File System Check Failed"on startup, I recently did a full system upgrade but I'm not entirely sure that the cause of the issue as I don't reboot very often.
I get the error right before this line is echo'ed out:
    /dev/mapper/Arch_LVM-Root:
The super block could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem...
this is odd because the only ext2 filesystem I have is on an non-LVM boot partition...
I can log-in and mount / as read/write and I can activate LVM with
    modprobe dm-mod
    and
    vgchange -ay Arch_LVM
and they show up in lvdisplay but their status is "NOT available"
I just need to mount these logical volumes so I can retrieve some personal data in my home directory, I am also hesitant to use LVM again if I can't retrieve my data.
    any suggestions?

I just popped in the install disk and was able to mount and access the LVM groups as expected, something must have been wonky with my filesystem

  • [Solved (initscripts-splash plroblem)] Filesystem check failed

Hello, my arch i686 sudently doesn't boot.
At system start, after loading kernel, the boot process stops and says "FILESYSTEM CHECK FAILED" give root password for maintenance or control+D for restart.
My root partition (dev/sda2) is reiserfs formated, and arch updated this week.
After reading a while I booted with Arch install CD and tried the follwing:
    fsck.reiserfs --check /dev/sda2
    fsck.reiserfs --fix-fixable /dev/sda2
    fsck.reiserfs --rebuild-sb /dev/sda2
    fsck.reiserfs --clean-attributes /dev/sda2
But no errors were found or fixed, so I can't boot arch yet.
Are there any other way to fix the filesystem?
    can filesystem check be skipped?
    please help

Could it be that it is anoter partition that is giving trouble ? Ot do you only have /dev/sda2 ?
Or start in sinle-user. At the grub boot menu, select the option that lets you edit the kernel parameters.
Add either a '1' or 'single' to the end of the kernel parameters, then continue booting up.
    Mektub
of course I know where I installled Arch.
pointone wrote:There should be a more descriptive error message above where it says "filesystem check failed" describing WHY the fsck failed.
No, just system check failed. Even more, my filesystem was perfectly, it was a problem with initscripts-splash

    http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=56604
I don't think installing a year old initscripts package would solve it, but you were very helpful.
Finally I could solve it with the recovery console:
After the error message I typed root password to log in, then remounted root partition for r/w:
    mount -n -o remount,rw /
Finally I had to remove the package initscripts-splash and install initscripts form core.
    ifconfig eth0 up
    dhcpcd eth0
    pacman -Syu
    pacman -Rs initscripts-splash
    pacman -S initscripts
    exit
**You should make a backup of rc.conf before installing initscripts, because installing initscrips will overwrite it (and a few other files i hadn't modified), and pacman was supoussed to back it up, but it didn't
    thanks for your help.

  • File Systen Check Fail

I keep getting a file system check fail after a new install:
The error message states that "/dev/hda3 could not be read or does not describe a correct ext2 filesystem"
/dev/hda3 was setup as ext4 and  as /, so I can't really believe this error message.

Thanks rockin turtle, I did a standard reinstall instead of legacy like you suggested:
Even though my system didn't have sata, the correct approach was to do a standard install instead of "Legacy IDE".
This appears to be a bug in the installer right? I couldn't find it in the bug tracker.

  • System Update 3.14 install fails on action: SetVendorValue

    Hi, folks:
I'm attempting to install System Update 3.14 for the first time on a 2004-vintage ThinkPad T42 type 2379-DXU. The immediate failure appears to be that the action "SetVendorValue" fails. I'm not sure what the underlying cause is. The installation terminates with an alert that installation failed and the system is unchanged; but in fact the System Update application is installed and there's an icon in my Start menu. When I try to run System Update, it displays an error message in front of the splash screen and quits.
Details and log excerpts below. Can anyone figure out why the install is failing? How can I get the install to succeed and the System Update app to run successfully? Thanks in advance for any ideas.
In the meantime, I'm going to try downloading individual drivers manually, to solve my underlying problem. But I'd sure like to have System Update on my side in the future.
    --Jim DeLaHunt, Vancouver, Canada
     Details* run the installer "systemupdate314-2008-5-15.exe".
    * installation proceeds through several steps. Shortly after the "Writing vendor value" status message appears, the installation fails with an error alert saying that that installer cannot complete and the system is unchanged.
    * in fact, there is now a c:\Program Files\Lenovo\System Update\ folder, and a System Update icon under Start menu -> All Programs -> ThinkVantage -> System Update.
    * clicking the System Update icon in the start menu causes the program to launch and fail. The splash screen appears, then an alert "System Update could not start properly [OK]". Clicking [OK] causes the program to exit.

Well, the problem is solved, and System Update is installed and working.
The root cause of the problem appeared to be that the registry directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE no longer extended "full control" permission to the Administrators user group on my machine. We fixed this by using regedit:
    Start... Run... regedit....
    select directory HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE, right-click, Permissions...,
    press Add... button
enter SYSNAME\Administrators in the text area (SYSNAME is a placeholder for my actual machine name)
    OK... OK...
    Quit regedit
We diagnosed the problem with the help of IT support from our employer. The problem was blocking installation of new anti-virus software. We had just removed old anti-virus and "internet security" software. Hmm, I wonder if the old security software removed this permission setting as a parting gift.
Hope this is helpful for others who encounter the same symptoms.

  • Errors when installing os x 10.4- Invalid sibling link-volume check failed

I am trying to upgrade my PowerPC G4 from OS x 10.2.8 to 10.4. I bought the Tiger Retail DVD. The install disc boots and runs, but near the end of installation, I get " Error Installing Software- Please try installing again" I opened the disk utility on the installer and tried first aid- which failed.
    "Invalid Sibling Link"
    "Volume check failed"
Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
    HFS volume checked
1 volume could not be repaired because of an error
I tried first aid repeatedly with no luck. I tried the fsck repair suggested in one of the discussion forums "fsck -fy"
    again, "volume check failed"
I'm looking to buy DiskWarrior as suggested, but am curious about another option I've read about. I found a macosxhints website http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070204093925888
that suggests running the install disk, clicking on terminal and unmounting the drive that the OS system "lives on". If I do this, will I lose the data already on my computer? The hint does not talk about how to remount the drive.
I am NOT computer savvy. Would this be getting in over my head? It sounds simple enough, but I don't want to do any irreversible damage. Should I just buy disk warrior, or would the safest bet be to buy an external hard drive and back up everything, then perform an erase an install with Tiger?
Any help would be MUCH appreciated!!!

Hi confused- I just fixed my invalid sibling link error on my HD. Stop using your HD!
It will only get radically worse. I went to http://www.alsoft.com/DiskWarrior/ to see which version of Disk Warrior I needed which was 4.1. Then I went to a retail store & bought the CD $99. On the box, it must say 4.0 with 4.1 included + CD rev 42. You must use the CD as the download won't boot up your HD. In the box is a 1-pager of simple instructions. Put disk in CD drive, follow instructions, click rebuild HD, wait 15 minutes. My HD is perfect!!!now. It fixed permissions, rebuilt my directory, fixed my CS3 Adobe applications, fixed corrupted prefs, found & restored ALL files. I lost nothing! Plus made a PDF detailed report. Best $99 i ever spent. Good luck!
