System Color Corruption

Not sure what happened, but the OS X system colorpicker seems to have become corrupted. I can't get select red. Whenever I try to choose red from the color picker, the color selected is orange.
Please see this screenshot to see what I'm talking about - http://www.hallnet.com/temp/RedProblem.jpeg.
The screenshot shows the ColorJack web site in Safari with a color wheel with red (R:255, G:0. B:0) selected, Textedit with the system color picker and red selected, but orange in the color picker box, and the DigitalColor Meter showing that the color in the system color picker box is actually orange and not a result of aberrant monitor behavior.
I've tried logging in as a different user, but I still get the same problem.
I've tested a few applications to se if the effect on color is universal. Most display the problem as soon as I try to pick a color, but PhotoShop CS3 does display true red.
This problem started happening after using an application called Art Text.
I'm running Leopard 10.5.1 on an Intel Mac mini.
Any ideas?

Hi Honolulu,
I'm not sure I fully understand your post. Are you saying that you also cannot get red (255:0:0) on your Leopard and Tiger machines? And that that is OK?
FYI, I just tried this test on my MBP: Open TextEdit; Type in some text and then select it; apple-T to bring up the Font window; select Maraschino from the color picker Crayola crayons tab; open DigitalColor Meter and mouse over the text in TextEdit to see what the color really is. On my MBP, Maraschino is R:252, G:12, B:13. It's not pure red but it looks a lot redder than on my Mac mini, where the same test gives R:222, G:42, B:0 which is orange.
Also, surely it doesn't matter what you do with color correction. That is only affecting how the color is presented on the monitor. The base color red should still be 255:0:0 in DigitalColor Meter, even if it looks orange on the monitor.

  • System Color corrupt

My operating system color seems to be corrupt. All colors burn out badly so that light colors appear white. I have changed the monitor that I know to work just fine and the problem persists. Calibrating the monitor does not help. So, the system color itself seems corrupt. Is there a way to get the OS to reinstall just the system color files without completely reinstalling the full OS?

Does it do this in all user accounts or just in your admin account. If you haven't tested this, create a new account, name it "test" and see how your color looks in that User acct? (That will tell if your problem is systemwide or limited to your User acct.) This account is just for test, do nothing further with it.
Open System Preferences >> Accounts >> "+" make it an admin account.
Let us know and we'll troubleshoot this further.

  • How to determine the system color and set them for my app?

    Hi,
I'd like to set the colors of my application to the system's colors. Especially the backgrounds of my JPanels, JButtons and so on should look like in the operating system. If you change the systems color scheme, my application looks really wierd with it's grey canvas an components and the border and menu of the window is displayed in the system's colors.
    any idea??

The UIManager only seems to have control over
awt-controls. All swing controls are not listed, when
    you try this:
            UIDefaults defaults =
    UIManager.getLookAndFeelDefaults();
    for(Iterator i = defaults.keySet().iterator();
    ator(); i.hasNext();)
    String name = (String)i.next();
    System.out.println(name);
}It would be nice to have it set globally somewhere in
    the program.
koemActually, the truth is quite the opposite, the UIManager only has control over swing components.
There are many ways you can set these globally. You can sublcass your own look and feel, use the system look and feel, call UIDefaults.put() etc.

  • [FIXED] color corruption with Radeon M6, xf86-video-ati 6.7.195-2

    Hi!
Since the last upgrade (to xf86-video-ati 6.7.195-2) I observe a color corruption on my Thinkpad X31 (Radeon Mobility M6 LY, 16MB) exactly as described here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/xorg-server/+bug/150361
    Curiously, when I run
xrandr --output LVDS --mode 1024x768 --rate 60
(simply restating the settings before), everything is fine again.
Should I file a bug in flyspray? I am not sure whether this is related to http://bugs.archlinux.org/task/8558 but since using version 6.7.195-1 or 6.7.195-2 did not help, I doubt that.
Could't someone port the patch from Ubuntu?

    Yep, fixed in 6.7.195-3. Thanks!

    Quit Mail, Trash this file...
Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Reboot & test.
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

  • System colors do not give correct RGB values

When using the IMAQ integer to color value function, I get correct RGB values for colors chosen via a color box control  - except if the colors are selected from the “system colors”. Is this supposed to happen? The RGB values for the system "White" is: 0, 0, 9.

That function does look at the most significant byte. Try wiring the system color to a "Split Number" (numerics "Dat manipulation) to split the I32 to two I16 and then again to get four I8s.
You will find that the "other" bytes has a "1".
    System colors are special.

  • ITunes.exe - System error / corrupt file

I purchased an iPod nano about a month ago. Since then about every week my entire iPod content is erased while i transfer music to iTunes. All of a sudden it disconnects and says "iTunes.exe - System error / Corrupt file". Each time this happens I need to restore my iPod, which does not help either. I have the latest iTunes version and I downloaded the iPod updater, however none of them make a difference in the situation. I would really like to know whether this can be solved or I need to return the device to the store.

with boot -a you can only specify new /etc/system during boot , e.g. /dev/null
but if you want to recover it , you can do it from live kernel ( if you didn't reboot after /etc/system was corrupted )
    with
    echo ::system|mdb -k
or from previous crash dump simmilar way
    cd /var/crash/`uname -n`

  • System colors in Java

I am working in a Java Swing Project. Here I have to set some System colors like Window Background, Button Face etc to the controls. I also need the way to set the color to be Transparent.
    Plz help me soon.
    Anila.

    Take a look at UIManager.
You can write yourself a little loop to dump out all of the system defaults which are accessible via UIManager.get*() and adjustable via UIManager.put().
If you want to adjust individual components then use their set() methods.

In previous post, Frank recommended to boot from recovery disk, go to terminal, rset paasword window and slect ''Reset Home Folder Permissions and ACLs''
This is what I did, exept, it was running after 24 hrs of waiting and I decide to quit. It did the same with all users...
Do you have a solution to this issue?
NOTE: Lions was reinstalled and HD erase. Repair Disk Permission done, Safe boot done.
    What do I got left?

Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
Select your boot volume if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • Highlight colors change (invert) on some backgrounds, i can make it back by changing use system colors and or background color, i would like to knoe if there is a setting to stop the change ?

i set my highlight colors to yellow background and black foreground in windows , it uses the same colors in firefox except as i highlight over some colors the foreground and background colors invert yellow on black , if there is a setting (or one can be added) in about:config to make the highlight always stay as yellow back and black foreground ? , im not sure if it is done within firefox though or if it is win xp but itcan be changed inside firefox about:config with browser.display.use_system_colors and/or browser.display.background_color .

that sort of makes sense but when you look at youtube messages , each alternate line is a very pale blue and when highlighted each alternate line the color is switched , this also happens on all web pages with simuler shading (not just pale blue) .
about the purple highlighting , ive never seen that , i have firefox on 2 PCs , a laptop and a notepad and they all use the colors set in win xp for highlight , even when use system colors is set to false , all that happens then is they swap about (invert) agen , i some times have to switch browser background color as well . sorry for being repetetive , im just trying to be clear , i have tried fine tuning BG color but on some pages just 1 single number away from white makes the switch,on other pages you can go nearly all the way to black befor it switches .ive just seen add images , ill send some pics to show what im trying to say .

  • LabView and System Colors

    Hi everyone
I am currently developing some small application in LabView 8.0.1. Until now, I've always used the default colors. I usually develop either in MFC (C++) oder .NET (C#). I am completely used to the standard color scheme of Windows - that light grey.
I want to achieve, that my applications look like they were coded in some of the other languages. LabView usually gives me quite a dark grey, which is ... not exactely beautiful and doesn't fit to all the other applications (it's darker).
Is there some way, I can make my application look like some C# Application? Do I have to set the colors manually or can I tell LabView to use Windows' colors.
    Thanks, for your help.

Concerning playing around: Why should someone do this. If they mess it up, they need to call us, which means money. You can almost mis-use any application if you're just willing to, so I don't see why I should pay extra care to that.
The thing is that they might not mess "it" up, but something seemingly unrelated like the system colors or fonts, which might be hard to troubleshoot. I agree that normally users don't play around with this, but you should hope not to run into this in a case where they do. Anyway, as long as you're using only standard dialog controls, colors and fonts you should be alright.
As for the dialog, LV has its own dialog because of its multi platform support and the need to be able to provide the same functionality and configurability in all platforms. You can make a call to a windows API function to get this dialog, as shown in the attached.
Note - you can easily get more functionality out of this (look at the link), but I did not write this, and I haven't had use for it yet, I haven't modified it.
Try to take over the world!

  • System Colors in Color Box Constant

    Hi,
I want to know how LabVIEW handles the values of system colors in case of a system change. For example:
I develop a VI on "System A" and choose the system color "Window" in the Color Box Constant. Now I run the VI on another "System B".
Retrieves LabVIEW now the system color "Window of "System B" or retrieves LabVIEW a fixed value from moment of development on "System A"?
    Kind regards

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

It uses whatever colors are the system colors for the machine it is actually running on.  So it would uses the colors from system B.
Likewise for fonts.  If you uses any of the symbolic fonts like dialog, application, ... and they are tied back to the system fonts of dialog, application, menu (I might have those names wrong or mixed up) by way of LabVIEW's or the exe's "app" .ini file, it will use whatever the Windows fonts are.  This can cause problems for an application where the front panel was sized based on an older OS where the system fonts were different and smaller when the app gets run on a newer OS such as Win7 where the font is something else, but also larger by a point or two.

  • When printing a VI as a PDF on MacOS that has system controls, the system color turns into a nasty yellow

The subject line says it all.  Happens on multiple Macs--in fact, the problem was reported by a customer.  When printing on a Mac, one of the options available instead of sending the output to a printer is to create a PDF file.  For some reason, the system color is substituted with yellow.  It also happens when saving a postscript file.
There is no code in this VI and it wasn't running, but the same problem happens with my built application.
How do I get out of this mess?  I am using LabVIEW 2010.  I have a huge UI with system colors used throughout.
    Thanks
