System Copy Methods

Hello All,
I need to perform system copy.I know the procedure from sapinst. But I have one doubt While doing the database Instance Installation we have 2 Methods:
1.Standard System Copy/Migration.
2. Homogenous System copy(MS Sql server specific:Dettach/Attach or Backup/Restore)
Which one I Need to select for Target system DB Installation??I am using win 2003/ms sql server 2005.Performing system copy of ecc 6.0.

Das,
Here is the details doc for system copy

  • System copy method for BusinessObjects BI Enterprise XI 3.0 (Windows)

    Hi,
We intend to replicate the same existing BOBJ system for use with another project's development.
Does anyone know what is the easiest method of system copy for BusinessObjects BI Enterprise XI 3.0 (Windows)?
Will a blank copy through Window's backup/restore work?
    Thank you.

    Hi,
    the easiest way would be:
    - extracting all content from the existing 3.0 to a biar file
    - install the new server os
    - install all BO componentes on the new server
    - import the biar file
You cant make something like an image from the existing server and then put it back on a new one. You have to rename the Server and than you will get problems with your BO installation. You can avoid this by re- deploying the WAR Files and updating the Repository Objects in the CMS.
But the above mentiones solution will be faster.

  • Error while importing data using SAPINST system copy method

    Dear Friends,
I am in process of doing system copy from production to Quality.
    OS: Linux
    Database: DB2
We have completed export from production. I have uninstalled quality system before importing, uninstall of quality system was succesful. Know while importing the exported data by using sapinst method, i am getting error in phase define parameter. Where it is showing error as below.

from the above error , it seems it is trying to conect to old quality database, but i don't know why it is doing so, as i have already uninstall the complete instance using sapinst. need your expert suggestion to over come this issue.
    Thanks

    Hi ,
This is probably due to shutdown of the system not correctly.
you will have to re-create control file.

  • ECC6 EHP2 (ABAP+Java)  system copy using file system copy

    Hello Experts,
I have a question around system copy method for a dual stack ECC6 EHP2 system.
We are planning to take full file system backup of this entire ECC6 EHP2 dual stack system and throw it on a completely new hardware with new host name but same SID.  We are also planning to do a host renaming in instance profiles and re-building the control files in target system after we finish the file system restore.
Is this method supported in SAP ? Or we strictly have to use  SAPinst to do export and import method.  In any case our source and target platform is not going to chance as per our scenario.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Harshal

    > Thanks for the quick response. Is their any document that says it is not supported ?  Because of no proper document that says no to do it, client want's to try it out.
For the ABAP part this is certainly feasible.
The Java part has not only issues with the secure store but also with SID and hostname. The old values are stored in many places in the database and in, depending on the applications installed, many .properties files in the filesystem. So it would be not enough to somehow regenerate the secure store but also change hostname and SID in different places that are not really all documented.
What you are basically looking for is
Note 757692 - Changing the hostname for J2EE Engine 6.40/7.0 installation
    with the significant sentence
This note should be applied only when the hostname of a machine
where the j2ee engine was already installed has changed.
It does not replace the SAP official system copy procedure and
MUST NOT be used for copying of an instance to another host and/or with different SID.

  • Homogeneous system copy ECC 6.0 EHP4 dual stack system

    Hello ,
I have a requirement of homogeneous system for the below Source system
    Source system :
    ECC6.0 EHP1 ABAP+java dual stack system with DB2 AIX
    Required Target system:
ECC 6.0 EHP1 (same as target system except single stack java not required)
1 .I was trying to use db specific homogeneous system copy method wiht redirected restore script
    2. Not possible to get downtime on source system hense it's a production system , then i used target system installaion with homogeneous system copy database specific mehthod
Problem is - it's asking migration export while creating the target system ,  but i don't have any migration export since i have not exported from source system .
please help us to proceed further.
    Thanks in Advance.

    2. Not possible to get downtime on source system hense it's a production system , then i used target system installaion with homogeneous system copy database specific mehthod
What did you choose to do in database specific method - DB2 backup/restore ?
    //Backup Restore
    Homegeneous system copy(database specific method)
    Target -
As I understand, you have started IMPORT using SAPinst for target system installation. During IMPORT, what target system installation (only ABAP or what ?) you chose ?
    //I took ABAP+JAVA
'Problem is - it's asking migration export while creating the target system , but i don't have any migration export since i have not exported from source system .'
This is because the source system is ABAP+Java, and now during target system installation, then IMPORT procedure is asking for Java Export dump.
    Thanks

  • Special Considerations about BPC on HANA System Copy

    Hello experts,
We will do a system copy for BPC on HANA from DEV to QAS (system installation with system copy method), are there any special considerations about the copy.
Addtionally, can I say that the system copy for BPC and for BW are the same (both follow the system copy guide based on SAP NetWeaver)? Are the follow-up activites the same for both?
    Thanks & Best Regards,
    Tong Ning

    Hi Tong,
If nothing has been changed in DEV after installation then backup & copy should be fine. I was thinking that you want to move custom development that way; recommended way for it is Transport system.
Not sure if this will be faster than just installing everything in QAS.
I'd think that the only follow-up activities would be change of references: to itself and to other systems. If active BW is in same box then it's more to change; if BW only serves as a platform for BPC then it's only SM59 and SPRO.

  • System copy for ABAP+JAVA system using SAPINST method

    Dear support,
We have recently upgraded to ECC 6.0 system and we have been still doing system copy by using backup and restore method. I know its<b> wrong</b>.
which involves below steps , this old methos works fine for ABAP engine and evreything looks ok.But java engine will not work.
So we need to use SAPINST method as described in note 785848 and system copy guide available on OSS. But i am really not able to understand sequence
for tasks to be carried out in this SAPINST method.
<b>Can anybody list few sequence along with step by step procedure as i mentioned below for old system copy procedure.</b>
Is it really difficult to make that for <b>SAPINST</b>  as everybody says refer to standard guide and note ?
Anybody if possible can make the same way as i did below , i think it would rather be small as far as my understanding after reading those docs.
Simple old system copy procedure works for ABAP is as:
Run the following command on source system.
    a. Login as <sid>adm
    b. svrmgrl
    c. connect internal
    d. alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    e. exit;
    f. Above command will generate a .trc file in /oracle/P01/saptrance/usertrace directory.
    g. Copy the text from CREATE CONTROLFILE until the ( and paste it in to any new .sql or controlfile.sql file.
    h. Copy the controlfile.sql to target system.
    i. Edit the file and replace the entire source SID to target SID.
    j. Edit the reuse database command with the set database command
Copy the aft generated during the backup file from the source system to target system. (/oracle/<SID>/sapbackup)
    a. Change all the source <SID> to target <SID>.
    b. Only don't change the backup volume name it must be target system <SID>.
    c. Copy the above aft file name line from the source back<SID>.log to target<SID>.log file.
    5. Shutdown the target server instance.
    6. From this onwards all the command on the target system only.
    a. Login as <SID>adm
    b. run the SAPDBA
    c. select J (Restore/Recovery)
    d. select B (Full restore and recovery)
    e. select A (Select backup of type)
    f. Select the offline backup which you want to restore.
    g. It will take some time to restore.
    h. Once the database is restored login as <SID>adm and run the
    i. svrmgrl
    j. connect internal;
    k. startup nomount (if the database is already mounted shutdown it using the shutdown command)
    l. run the following command
    m. @controlfile.sql (file name of the control file contains the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement)
    n. After the run the above command it should give the "Statement Processed)
    o. alter database open resetlogs.
I am really looking forward to see anybody take some time out to prepare this kind of step by step procedure.
It would be of greate help for all of us for performing system copy with sapinst method.
    Looking forward for your support.
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

    Hi,
As per the guide you need to do source system Technical Preparations, in that running the export preparation is also one. You need to run this first before you start the export, if and only if export will successful if preparation is successful.
Yes you need to create the export directory to take the export copy of source system, it may be any where in your server. It should be having 6 to 8 GB free space. No need to create the export directory in target system, after export is completed in the source system you copy the export directory to the target system.
    <b>Target system</b>
Yes you need to take the back up file system and delete all the contents of the directory.
Yes it can be considered as fresh system installation but copy of source system.
Yes the process follows after you giving the export directory path .
Next screen you will get the database drop and recreate screen chouse the drop and recreate method
Next J2EE user name and password
    Next DDIC password
Next you have to give kernel and oracle client dvd path
Next Parameter checking screen here if you are selected database drop and recreate you have to revise the oracle database system option
If you are selecting review next screen is database advance option you have to select the advanced option
Next you have to select following option to recreate
    1 Sapdata directory mapping
    2 Database instance file system
    3 Create database parameter
    4 Create tablespace
    Next screen sapdata directory creating
Next screen you can just click next no need to change any setting
    Next table creation
Next screen specify oracle instance directories
Next again parameter checking and last this is last screen
Next will be the execution screen
    Reward points if usefull

  • Homogeneous system copy ( sapinst or db specific method )

I want to make homogeneous system copy ( NW7 ) of ECC6 from PRD to make a QA system on HPUX/Oracle environment. I am wondering which of the following method is better way to go
System copy with the help of sapinst
    or
    Database specific method
What are the steps of each method?
Please help, your help will be highly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    -Al

    Hi Al,
Using sapinst is the supported method by SAP but it takes much longer as you'll need to export/import the data and doing this affects availability of your PRD system.  Most companies perform DB backup/restore as it is much quicker and does not require an outage of your PRD system (if you have online backups).  Different databases have different tools for this operations.  Since it only a QA system, I would suggest you do a DB backup/restore.

  • System Copy of our Production Server using orabrcopy method.

    Hi
We are planning to do a System Copy of our Production Server using orabrcopy method.
But as the Production Server Java Version is below 1.4.1, Orabrcopy could not be executed.
As per the planned downtime of the Production Server, we have copied all the database offline. ( say 9th of August)
but we could not create the control , trace, init<sid>.ora files using ORABRCOPY.. during offline database copy.
Now the system is up and running.. We havent created the files yet.
    I have 2 questions..
    1. Is there any other method so that we can create the control , trace, and init<sid>.ora files.
    2. If we create the control trace files now ( 13th of August ) can we use the offline backup that we took on (9th of August) to perform a System Copy..
    Need your addvice..
    Thanks and Regards
    Paguras

Basically, orabrcopy does (aside from other things) an
    alter database backup controlfile to trace;
You can enter that manually (anytime) and use the resulting .trc file in saptrace directory as a base for control.sql, however, in this case you need to "know" what you're doing. ORABRCOPY is a "nice frontend" for this because it uses the same statement to create CONTROL.SQL, it just edits it appropriately which you will need to do manually.

  • System copy sapinst method no java engine found

    Hi all,
I have completed my system copy of R3 ECC 6.0 and BI7 system to another machines for testing purpose using sapinst method.
Basically i have used installation master DVD and went for option Additional software life cycle _ system copy -- Source system - Based on abap + java -- Export
and then along with DDLs from  SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program i have prepared Export and performed Import at target machine with
installation master DVD and went for option Additional software life cycle _ system copy -- Target system - Based on abap + java -- Import
    Give different hostname this time.
all phases successfully completed in both machines and i am able to login to both systems successfully.
But unfortunately i dont find j2ee_process table in MMC ( as i have in source system ) , but everything is green
in MMC and smicm transaction shows no HTTP port entry but again green signal.
Is there anything else to carry out to get j2ee_engine working at target system.
also http://host:port/nwa for target system not working ,
Can anybody throw some light on this issue , initially i was struglling for getting this import successfully done but now j2ee_process table is an issue for me.
    Best Regards,
    AjitR

Since it is Test machine , i tried with option
Additional software life cycle tasks --> java Add in for ABAP --> central system -->
    central service instance java addin
and provided required inputs for screens and task completed .
Now i can see j2ee process table under MMC .
Is this normal scenario we should do after system copy through SAPINST ?
If i have performed sapinst system copy for ABAP + java system then why it was not included in first import success ?

  • SAP SQL System Copy backup restore method with ADS(Adobe document services)

    Hello all,
i´m preparing a system copy with ERP 6.0 in windows and SQL server with ADS.
I have a doubt, can i do the System Copy backup/restore method with ADS??
or the only method that works is with system export/import in all instances??
    Thank you

    Hi Oscar,
Is your ADS system separate from your ERP system, or are they on the same server?
In any case, you can use backup/restore to copy a Java system, but you must also make a system export/import for the Java server components.  The two work in conjunction, so that the export tool doesn't export your whole database, only the components maintained in the filesystem.  If you select the database detach/attach or backup/restore method in the tool when going against the Java system, it will prompt you at the right point in the process to make your Java export as well.
The caveat is that the Java export requires downtime, so it isn't possible to copy a Java system without impacting system availability, as it is with a pure ABAP system.
    Best regards,
    Matt

  • How to perform system copy using standard sap method (sapinst)

    Hi guys
pls tel how to perform system copy using standard sap method (sapinst) and to perform enterprise portal RESTORSTION.
    thanks
    kamal

    Hi Kamal,
I have done a system copy of the production portal to a sandpit system before. The system copy export import method works very well, and is easy. For my portal, the whole procedure took me less than 6 hours.
    1. Go to this page: System Copy and Migration
    2. See the videos "Demo: How to Perform a System Copy Export" and "Demo: How to Perform a System Copy Import".
This should give you the basic idea.
I did a systemcopy using sapinst. If I remember right, this is the steps I performed:
    1. On target host, Installed a new Central services.
    2. On source host: Ran sapinst system copy export for Central Instance and Database instance. This created two export files (depending on your database size).
    3. Used the export files created in previous step to run the import step in target host.
    4. Some post processing steps, like configuring sso, creating systems in system landscapes, configuring WD JCos etc.
Let me know if you need more help.
    Cheers
    Rishi

Can you tell us what you mean with "not reflecting"? All the content is in the database so if you copied that, it's definitely there.
    > Can you please guide whether we have to do Unicode conversion for this /Is their any way for activating the languages. I Executed the report RSCPINST and tried to activate the languages after doing stimulation and copying zcsa/installed_languages =13CDEFIJLMNOPQRSTVZ to the instance profile.
...and you did a restart of the instance after you changed that parameter?

  • Unable to log in to portal after system copy

    Good day
I have copied my production portal system to a test system.  I am using an ECC Abap system as my user store.  The portal start successfully and I am able to access the Visual administrator.
I am however unable to log on to the portal.  The error I get is "User authentication error".
Below is an extract from the security log:

    Hello!
It looks like your system is configured for ticket authentication. As you did a system copy the SSO-ticket might not be working anymore. If this is the case you need fix the SSO or you need to re-configure your Portal (at least temporarily) to allow other authentication methods (like basic password authentication).
You can configure the order of the authentication methods in VisualAdmin and set the 'levels' (Required/Sufficient/etc.) there as well.
    Hope this helps,
    Jörg
