System copy sapinst method no java engine found

Hi all,
I have completed my system copy of R3 ECC 6.0 and BI7 system to another machines for testing purpose using sapinst method.
Basically i have used installation master DVD and went for option Additional software life cycle _ system copy -- Source system - Based on abap + java -- Export
and then along with DDLs from  SMIGR_CREATE_DDL program i have prepared Export and performed Import at target machine with
installation master DVD and went for option Additional software life cycle _ system copy -- Target system - Based on abap + java -- Import
Give different hostname this time.
all phases successfully completed in both machines and i am able to login to both systems successfully.
But unfortunately i dont find j2ee_process table in MMC ( as i have in source system ) , but everything is green
in MMC and smicm transaction shows no HTTP port entry but again green signal.
Is there anything else to carry out to get j2ee_engine working at target system.
also http://host:port/nwa for target system not working ,
Can anybody throw some light on this issue , initially i was struglling for getting this import successfully done but now j2ee_process table is an issue for me.
Best Regards,
AjitR

Since it is Test machine , i tried with option
Additional software life cycle tasks --> java Add in for ABAP --> central system -->
central service instance java addin
and provided required inputs for screens and task completed .
Now i can see j2ee process table under MMC .
Is this normal scenario we should do after system copy through SAPINST ?
If i have performed sapinst system copy for ABAP + java system then why it was not included in first import success ?

  • System copy for ABAP+JAVA system using SAPINST method

    Dear support,
We have recently upgraded to ECC 6.0 system and we have been still doing system copy by using backup and restore method. I know its<b> wrong</b>.
which involves below steps , this old methos works fine for ABAP engine and evreything looks ok.But java engine will not work.
So we need to use SAPINST method as described in note 785848 and system copy guide available on OSS. But i am really not able to understand sequence
for tasks to be carried out in this SAPINST method.
<b>Can anybody list few sequence along with step by step procedure as i mentioned below for old system copy procedure.</b>
Is it really difficult to make that for <b>SAPINST</b>  as everybody says refer to standard guide and note ?
Anybody if possible can make the same way as i did below , i think it would rather be small as far as my understanding after reading those docs.
Simple old system copy procedure works for ABAP is as:
Run the following command on source system.
    a. Login as <sid>adm
    b. svrmgrl
    c. connect internal
    d. alter database backup controlfile to trace;
    e. exit;
    f. Above command will generate a .trc file in /oracle/P01/saptrance/usertrace directory.
    g. Copy the text from CREATE CONTROLFILE until the ( and paste it in to any new .sql or controlfile.sql file.
    h. Copy the controlfile.sql to target system.
    i. Edit the file and replace the entire source SID to target SID.
    j. Edit the reuse database command with the set database command
Copy the aft generated during the backup file from the source system to target system. (/oracle/<SID>/sapbackup)
    a. Change all the source <SID> to target <SID>.
    b. Only don't change the backup volume name it must be target system <SID>.
    c. Copy the above aft file name line from the source back<SID>.log to target<SID>.log file.
    5. Shutdown the target server instance.
    6. From this onwards all the command on the target system only.
    a. Login as <SID>adm
    b. run the SAPDBA
    c. select J (Restore/Recovery)
    d. select B (Full restore and recovery)
    e. select A (Select backup of type)
    f. Select the offline backup which you want to restore.
    g. It will take some time to restore.
    h. Once the database is restored login as <SID>adm and run the
    i. svrmgrl
    j. connect internal;
    k. startup nomount (if the database is already mounted shutdown it using the shutdown command)
    l. run the following command
    m. @controlfile.sql (file name of the control file contains the CREATE CONTROLFILE statement)
    n. After the run the above command it should give the "Statement Processed)
    o. alter database open resetlogs.
I am really looking forward to see anybody take some time out to prepare this kind of step by step procedure.
It would be of greate help for all of us for performing system copy with sapinst method.
    Looking forward for your support.

    Hi,
As per the guide you need to do source system Technical Preparations, in that running the export preparation is also one. You need to run this first before you start the export, if and only if export will successful if preparation is successful.
Yes you need to create the export directory to take the export copy of source system, it may be any where in your server. It should be having 6 to 8 GB free space. No need to create the export directory in target system, after export is completed in the source system you copy the export directory to the target system.
    <b>Target system</b>
Yes you need to take the back up file system and delete all the contents of the directory.
Yes it can be considered as fresh system installation but copy of source system.
Yes the process follows after you giving the export directory path .
Next screen you will get the database drop and recreate screen chouse the drop and recreate method
Next J2EE user name and password
    Next DDIC password
Next you have to give kernel and oracle client dvd path
Next Parameter checking screen here if you are selected database drop and recreate you have to revise the oracle database system option
If you are selecting review next screen is database advance option you have to select the advanced option
Next you have to select following option to recreate
    1 Sapdata directory mapping
    2 Database instance file system
    3 Create database parameter
    4 Create tablespace
    Next screen sapdata directory creating
Next screen you can just click next no need to change any setting
    Next table creation
Next screen specify oracle instance directories
Next again parameter checking and last this is last screen
Next will be the execution screen
    Reward points if usefull

  • Homogeneous system copy ( sapinst or db specific method )

I want to make homogeneous system copy ( NW7 ) of ECC6 from PRD to make a QA system on HPUX/Oracle environment. I am wondering which of the following method is better way to go
System copy with the help of sapinst
    or
    Database specific method
What are the steps of each method?
Please help, your help will be highly appreciated.
    Best Regards,
    -Al

    Hi Al,
Using sapinst is the supported method by SAP but it takes much longer as you'll need to export/import the data and doing this affects availability of your PRD system.  Most companies perform DB backup/restore as it is much quicker and does not require an outage of your PRD system (if you have online backups).  Different databases have different tools for this operations.  Since it only a QA system, I would suggest you do a DB backup/restore.

  • Dialog Instances Java are not up after System Copy NW2004s SR2 ABAP+JAVA

    Hello guys,
I have just  performed a system copy of our BW system (douple stack NW2004s) wich consists from CI and 2 DIs. First I  made an export using SAPINST (Software from SAP_BUSINESS_SUITE_2005_SR2 for sparc solaris), where I choosed in SAP Installation Master->SAp Netweaver 2004s Support Release 2->Additional Software Life-cycle Tasks->System Copy->Oracle->Source System->Central System->Based on ABAP and Java->Database and Central Instance Export. I couldn't find any special task for export java from my dialog instances, so I thought it would be ok like that. Then I used the same software on my target system, choosed ...Additional Software Life-cycle Tasks->System Copy->Oracle->Target System->Central System->Based on ABAP and Java->Central System Installation. In the Dialog input phase of SAPINST I indicated that use db specific tools to copy your database. So I made the database restore+recovery with our DB tools and continued withthe SAPINST and Import.
Afterwards the ABAP part and Java on the central Instance run perfect, but Java Stack is not up by both of Dialog Instances. I have checked the configtool on the server where the CI is running (the DIs are running on different linux servers) and couldn't see any entries for my dialog instances, only the CI was seable there. I tried to start configtool from the application server, but there I could find only the file config.properties in the directory /usr/sap/<SID>/.../j2ee/configtool/, others were simply not there, so it was impossible to start it. Have i forgotten something by EXPORT/IMPORT or I should just use other software for coping a System with douple stack on a CI and DIs? Or should I get configtools for Linux platform ( have searched but not found yet) and try to make the same changes wich i have done by the CI before i started Java on the CI? The most irritated point is that i can't see the dialog instanes in Configtool from the CI.
Any other suggestions and good advices?
    Thanks a lot in advance.

  • System copy - NW2004s BI - ABAP & JAVA

    Hi
We plan to create a new NW2004s (SRII) BI ABAP & JAVA system through a system copy. As this is java & abap it would seem using the sapinst method using the install CD would be best. I am looking for documentation for  this method and I wondered if anyone else had tried this task.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
there is a documentation under Installation Guides - Installation - System Copy for SAP Systems Based on NW 7.0 SR2 ABAP+JAVA.
We only did the copy for 640 and Java only.

  • Homogeneous system copy on windows abap + java with a backup online

Hello gurus, I need to perform a refresh (HSC) from our production to our test system. we have a daily backup online that I want to use for restoring the test system .
from the procedure it's not clear how to proceed .
as my point of view i should say :
    1) perform a restore redirect using backup online
    2) export on the production the java side using database specific tools
    3) import the java side on the restored database (when it stops to ask me to restore database i will use the backup created by the export procedure)
    4) apply all the logs to the end of export of java to put the database in a consistente state
    5) finish the procedure of import
my question marks are related to the step 2) and 3) . the restored database will keep the data of java side from the second backup (export) run by sapinst?
and.. do I have to apply logs till the export is finished to put db in a consistente state?
someone of you have performed it once ?
    any advice is greatly apprechated

Hello guys,so just to be clear again
on the target system I have to execute
db2 drop database <SID>  and following delete the content of sapdata?
I have seen on this website the possibility to execute the redirect restore using the comman "replace existing" . Can I apply this without deleting anything ?
    ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/ps/products/db2/info/vr9/pdf/letter/en_US/db2hae90.pdf
REPLACE EXISTING If a database with the same alias as the target database alias already exists, this parameter specifies that the restore utility is to replace the existing database with the restored database. This is useful for scripts that invoke the restore utility, because the command line processor will not prompt the user to verify deletion of an existing database.
For the java side , once the the restore redirect has been performed successful  do I have to use the option for recreating the WAS AS JAVA  only as system copy only? This will populate my java side correctly with the data of my exporting system?
    best regards

  • MSSQL Homogeneous System Copy : SAPINST cannot connect to default database

    Hello.
We want to perform a homogeneous system copy, following Note 151603.
We have attached the source DB (RP1) to the destination DB (RD4) following the above mentioned Note.
Now, logged to the server as DOMAIN\rd4adm , we want to execute the SAPINST, as indicated in the Note 683447, but when giving the password for user rd4adm we get a pop up
Cannot connect to R3SVIL\RD4 [SQL Server]Cannot open user default database. Login failed.
R3SVIL is the server. Login is done with windows authentication (connected as domain\rd4adm)
We cannot find a Note descibing this issue and how to fix it, must be something with user : does anybody have suggestion or solution?
    Thanks a lot,

  • Java Add-in System Copy - same Java Support Package levels ?

    Hi,
I'm looking at performing a standard SAP Netweaver 04 SAP Web Application Server system "refresh" procedure. I plan to copy the production system ( SAP WAS 640 ABAP+Java addin )to an already installed QA system that was installed originally exactly the same as Prod. Both have the same components installed and the ABAP stack Support package levels are identical. What I've found is that the Java Add-in Support package levels vary. Is it possible to perform the system copy "refresh" if the Java components differ. ( Prod J2EE is 640 SP13, QA is SP14 and Adobe & ESS/MSS components differ ).
I've looked through the system copy guides and the NW04 SR1 system copy OSS note 785848, but can't find anything about this situation.
Hopefully someone else out there can tell me if it's possible, without first patching Production to the same levels as the QA system being overwritten.
    Regards,
    Brian.

    Hello,
u can do that w/o applying the patch ..but after doing system copy u have latest SP13 as of u r PRD server instead of SP14 in QA....if required then u can apply it again in QA....SP14.
So if u not got my point then tell me...
    thanks..

  • System Copy using sapinst - Step Migration Export  SAP:MIGSDM:700:*:*:*

Hi we are trying to do a system copy of a ABAP/ Java Addin  - 70 SR3 from one system to another.
We took the sapinst option for Central BASED on ABAP and JAVA
We took the save restore option.
We are curretly stuck at the step Migration Export.  Looking for the LABEL.ASC  for
    SAP:MIGSDM:700:::*
We took the java option to create the SDM export on the source system.  My export location has the following :
    LABELIDX.ASC
            JDMP
            SDM
            APPS
    LABEL.ASC
    SAP:JMIG:700:::*
    Any ideas / suggestions?
    Regards,
    Brian

    > I just started sapinst and selected "export central system based on ABAP + Java".
    > There is an entry in the main export folder
    > LABELIDX.ASC
    > -ABAP
    > -JAVA
    >
    > ABAP folder is empty
This is possible since you may have chosen the "database specific" copy. So the copy process will only pack the Java part which you will use later for the target system.
    > JAVA folder has 3 files
    > LABEL.ASC_
    >  - SAP:JMIG:700:::*
    > LABELIDX.ASC
    >  -JDMP
    >  -SDM
    >  -APPS
    Looks good!
If the export is finished you can start sapinst again on the target system, select again ABAP + Java and "database specific copy", the system will then start with the installation and stop at some point to restore the database. After that is done continue with sapinst.

  • 2 Instances in Configtool and offlinecfgeditor after System Copy ABAP+Java

    Hello,
I've done a system copy ABAP+JAVA of a XI3.0 (WAS 6.40) and after the system copy I've my system up & running.
    The problem is:
After I have finished the System Copy (Export and Import) of the ABAP and Java part I'm doing the pre-steps for the Upgrade to PI 7.1.
Ok, following the note 1061649 on the point "Checking the Consistency Between Primary Application Server Instance ID and Box Number" when I check this point I'm in trouble because my Java ID (the same Java ID of the source system of the system copy) isn't the JAVA ID that the checks waits for my destination server.
The result of the check is:
    java -cp instanceidcheck.jar com.sap.sdt.check.InstanceIdChecker ID84971 21 XIDDVEBMGS21sapxid
The calculated instance ID is ID2190439
WARNING!!! The source system ID that you provided (ID84971) is different than the one calculated (ID2190439)

Then, I go to see in configtool my InstanceID and I see that I have 2 InstanceID's....the instanceID ID2190439 that is empty (no dispatcher and no server0) and the instanceID ID84971 that has dispatcher, server0 and is the instance which is starting when I type "startsap sapxid".
Can you tell me why is happening that ??

    Hello All,

How can we do this? What system copy approach we can follow? Will DB restore work?
During the copy will it ask for any hardware/software keys?
Do we need to seperately buy the licenses ?

How can we do this? What system copy approach we can follow? Will DB restore work?
You can do this by homogeneous system copy. Yes DB restore method will work.
During the copy will it ask for any hardware/software keys?
No it will not ask for any keys(Homogeneous system copy not sure about heterogeneous system copy)
Do we need to separately buy the licenses ?
    No
Our OS/DB is going to be different from that of the partner
The copy of an SAP system to another hardware is called a system copy. If the target system will run on a different operating system (OS) and/or a different database system (DB) than the source system, then this is called a heterogeneous system copy or OS/DB migration. Check below link for detail

    Note 82478 - SAP system OS/DB migration
You can download system copy guide from below link
    https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/instguides.
Homogeneous System Copy:-During the system copy you use the same operating system and database platform as the original
    system.
Heterogeneous System Copy:-During the system copy, you change either the operating system or the database system, or both.
Heterogeneous system copy is a synonym for migration.
System Copy :-Duplication of an SAP system. Certain SAP parameters might change in a copy. When you
perform a system copy, SAPinst installs all the instances again, but it uses a copy of the source
system database to set up the database.
Database Copy :-Database-dependent part of the system copy.
    Hope this helps
    Thanks
    Sushil

    1. We tried running the export with SIDADM user as well and followed the note 970518, but to end up with the same error.
    2. We are already using the lated Installtion master.
    3. Where should we check the OS logs?
