SYSTEM COPY/ SYTEM REFRESH

Hi,
Can any one plz explain me the steps to perform System Copy/ Refresh for XI system
Thanks in advance.

Hi kobby
Client Copy:
Note that SAP delivers the software with standard clients 000 and 001. You may not work in client 000. However, SAP recommends that you begin R/3 implementation by creating a new client as a copy of client 000.
Transactions used:
SCC4--> To create a client
SCCL-->To do client copy.
Types of Client Copy:
Local client copy between clients in the same R/3 System
Remote client copy between clients in different R/3 Systems
Client transport between clients of different R/3 Systems
System Refresh:
A system refresh is in most cases rebuilding the quality assurance or acceptance system from a backup of the productive system. More accurate test data is made available in the quality assurance system for the developers and customizing consultants to test their ongoing developments and roll-outs.

  • 'Homogeneous system copy' in a few minutes ?

    Hi,
I have seen on DSAG congress how an Administrator has done a technical Homogeneous system copy  for refreshing a QA System, in 7 minutes. (And the new SAP System was running). Without reworking in the running SAP-System.
This is done in a WIN/Oracle environment wit NETApp Storage with the function SNAP from netapp.
I want to ask if there is a possibility, to speed up the homogeneous system copy on iSeries?
Normally you need hours for deleting the library. You need hours for restoring data. And some time for SAPInst.
    kind regrads,
    Carsten

    Hi Carsten,
this is definetely NOT possible on iSeries. It can only be done on a platform wit snapshot technology, that can be mounted on a different system. If the SID or the hostname changes, there ARE suggested post steps - most of them are not needed for pure ABAP systems, but at least would be useful.
As you know, i5 uses the disks "AS ONE" and therefore cannot create snapshots & mount them on another partition. I know, that external storage systems are able to create snapshots on i5 as well, but they are "just" used for backup and NOT for mounting on a different system.
In my eyes, the only option to achieve this would be an iASP environment, that becomes detached and then run different. But, if you want to rename the SID, you need at least a lot more time than 7 minutes as you have to stop journaling, rename the lib and then start journaling. It would be a significant time improvement for the copy - but for a pretty high price in my eyes ...

  • SAP ECC 6.0 EHP5 with Opentext VIM 7.0 - Question on System Copy / Refresh

    Hi
We are planning to perform a system refresh of our QA systems (platform: Windows / SQL 2005).  The ECC system has Opentext Vendor Invoice Management 7.0 on it.
I was looking for some documentation explaining the Pre and / or Post system copy (refresh) activities specific to Opentext VIM, but could find none so far.
I have tried on Opentext website, SAP SMP and Google.
Are there any VIM specific tasks for system copy ?
Is there any documentation that you can lead me to ?
Any help / lead is appreciated.
    thanks
    Sree

There shouldn't be any specific procedures for the system copy as there is OpenText VIM add-on installed on the system. As the add-on's are stored in the database you just need to restore the database and do the post refresh activities.

  • SLT refresh/system copy

    Hi,
We would be going for a SLT refersh from production to Acceptance.
Please do share any documents related to this.
    Thanks,
    Rajiv

    Hi Rajiv,
Early last year I discussed with my customer approaches how such a refresh could be realized and what needs to be considered.
I can share my thoughts with you, however I have to emphasize that we never tested the procedures in detail. And in nowadays versions of SLT some transactions might be different.
So please keep them as a hint but not as a guideline.
How-to refresh QAS from PRD in SLT scenario?
    Landscape:
Production landscape consist of ERP-system PRD, with replication to HANA-database HAP via SLT-server SLP
Quality landscape consist of ERP-system QAS, with replication to HANA-database HAQ via SLT-server SLQ
    Scenario:
QAS system should be refreshed with recent PRD data
    Approaches:
    A.      Refresh QAS from PRD, clean HAQ, repeat replication
    B.      Refresh QAS from PRD, HAQ from HAP and SLQ from SLP
    A. Detailed steps for approach A: Refresh + repeat replication
    ** not tested **
    1.       Backup PRD
    2.       Stop the master replication job in HAQ (transaction LTR -> jobs tab -> Edit -> Stop)
    3.       Refresh QAS from ERP backup
    4.       Clean up old replication
    a.       Delete old configuration in HAQ (transaction LTR)
    b.      Delete triggers in refreshed QAS system
    i.      Call transaction IUUC_REMOTE à Expert Functions à Delete Triggers à Enter the names of the replicated tables à Execute
If step i. is successful, continue with step c., otherwise go on with next step ii.-iv.
    ii.      Determine all triggers
iii.      Execute function module DB_DROP_TRIG in transaction SE37 for every trigger (specify EXEC  = X, TABNAME = tabname and TRIG_NAME = trigger name)
iv.      Verify that no triggers remain
Alternative: You can also write a sqlscript for all tables/triggers and run it on db level
    c.       Delete logging tables in refreshed QAS system:
    d.      List all logging tables: transaction SE11, enter /1CADMC/* à press F4 key; then copy the logging table names to notepad; copy all names into the clipboard
    i.      Call transaction IUUC_REMOTE à Expert Functions à Delete Logging Tables à copy the trigger names from clipboard to the input selection à Execute
ii.      Verify that all logging tables have been deleted (as in i.). It seems that the logging tables for DD02L and DD02T will still exist; in this case drop the two logging tables in DB level.
    e.      Cleanup SLT server HAQ:
    i.      IUUC_REPL_CONFIG:                  Should be empty
    ii.      IUUC_REPL_CONPAR:                 Should be empty
    iii.      IUUC_REPL_HDR                           Should be empty
    iv.      IUUC_REPL_MAP                          Should be empty
    v.      IUUC_RS_STATUS                         Should be empty
    vi.      IUUC_RS_ORDER                           Should be empty
    vii.      IUUC_TABLES                                  Should be empty
    viii.      DMC_COBJ                                       Should be empty
    ix.      DMC_MT_TABLES                         Should be empty
    x.      IUUC_LOGTAB_ID                         Will be filled, so delete the entries with transaction SE16
xi.      DMC_STRUC_ID                             Will be filled, so delete the entries with transaction SE16
xii.      DMC_ACT_REC                                              Will be filled, so delete the entries with transaction SE16
xiii.      Run report DMC_CLEANUP_USAGE in transaction SE38 with flag ‘delete all kinds of zombies’
xiv.      Run report DMC_CLEANUP_USAGE in transaction SE38 with flag ‘delete all kinds of zombies’ and subproject = ZIUUC_<MTID> with <MTID> is the name of the mass transfer id of the configuration
xv.      DMC_MT_HEADER                       Will be filled, so delete the entries with transaction SE16
    f.        HANA Studio connect with SYSTEM user to HAQ, go to Catalog > Authorization > Users and delete the user of the replication (cascade option)
    5.       Setup new configuration in SLQ
    a.       Check RFC connection in transaction SM59 from SLQ to QAS
    b.      Transaction LTR: Create new configuration
    c.       In the studio, check schema created in HAQ
    d.      In the studio, data provisioning, verify that tables DD02L, DD02T and DD08L are replicated
    e.      Prepare a text file with all tables to be replicated
    f.        In the studio, data provisioning, load the text file and add the tables to the replication
    B. Detailed steps for approach B: Consistent Refresh all Systems
    ** not tested **
    1.       Backup all systems
    a.      Stop the master replication job in HAP (transaction LTR -> jobs tab -> Edit -> Stop)
    b.      Backup first PRD, then HAP and finally SLP
    c.       Start the master replication job in HAP again (transaction LTR)
    2.       Refresh QAS from ERP backup, no BDLS
    3.       Refresh HAQ from HAP backup
    4.       Refresh SLQ from SLP backup
    5.       Adapt SLT configuration, i.e. RFC connection to QAS  in SLQ
    6.       Adopt hana server name in SLT configuration(/LTR), can be done inside db connection to HANA(/DBCO)
    7.       Update table “SYS_REPL”.”RS_REPLICATION_COMPONENTS” in hana and change the server name and configuration for the SLT replications.
    8.       Start the master replication job in HAQ again (transaction LTR)
    9.       Run BDLS in QAS to change logical system name (SLT will replicate the changes to HANA)
    END *

  • System copy and database refresh

Can any one nagotiate me about system refresh and databaswe refresh.

    Hi,
System Copy means copying the contents of the system into another including data i,.e Table Data. It comprises entire user settings, data will be copied.
In the database refresh, table contents (data) are refreshed.
    Good thread discussion:

  • Differene between system copy and system refresh

    Hi all
can you please tell me the difference among SYSTEM COPY,SYSTEM REFRESH and DB REFRESH

I would consider them all the same. Maybe a "refresh" could be stated as "I restore a backup onto an already installed system" where as system copy means "I install a new system with a backup of another one" but mainly they all mean the same.

  • CUA setup for a refreshed system copy

IF I copy a system that is under CUA, do I have to remove CUA first?
Or can I copy the system and on the target system, delete the CUA?
What is the best practice for system refreshed and CUA?
    Thanks
    Weyland

    Hi,
Yes, you have to detach the CUA first, before starting with client copy to avoid inconsitency..
Like Client Copy profile includes User Master Records from the source client (SAP_ALL or SAP_USER profile), you should deactivate CUA in the target client.Otherwise, the users in the target client will remain untouched. If you
don't need to copy the User Masters from the source, use a client copy profile that excludes User Master Records,
Also check the pending Idocs to be processed in target client before detaching from CUA. Correct the logical system name and RFC after system copy to make it again functional with CUA.
    Cheers

  • Homogeous system copy for machine refreshment

    Hello SAP expert,
I'd like to migrate our sap system() from power5 to power7, and  the host name and the ip address will be kept unchanged on the power7 machine.  We want to use homogeous system copy for  db6 to migrate the sap system for testing. And after the testing, we want to just use db2 backup/restore to replace the database without system copy again. I know there are several steps in sapinst after db restore when I do a system copy, but the hostname, ip and user are unchanged, so  I think there is no need to do a system copy again. Could someone help confirm that?
And we also want to seperate DB instance and CI to different machine, can we just do a db backup/restore for this case too? And I am not sure if some information about CI and diaglog instance is recorded, if so, I just concern there is some inconsistency if I just replace the database instead of do a homogeous system copy again.

    Hi Sunny,
Is those report very key? The ip, hostname, system user will keep unchanged and only the machine will be changed from AIX5 to AIX6, so after I do a whole homogeous system copy for the first time and all sap related files are already moved to the new machine, so the next time I want to restore the db with the backup taken on AIX5 to new machine directly without reinstall sap system, it will reserve some time and reduce the effort. Do you think if there is any problem if I do this? Thanks.

  • System copy of GTS - Productive to Test - How to ?

    Dear all,
We are planning a copy of our SAP sytems from productive to test. We did this already several times including ERP, BW and CRM systems. Now for the first time GTS is involved, too. Is there any special information available on how to do this for GTS 8.0?
I know that information about ERP - Logical System is included in customs document data (/SAPSLL/CUHD_0251_S-ORGLOGSYS) and suppose that this has to be changed to Logical System ID of the ERP test system after the copy.
Any information regarding this topic would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    Ulrich

    Hello Dave,
    Thank you for your feedback!
Concerning Logical System I already talked to our basis guys. They will use trx BDLS to convert it during copy/refresh process.
Concerning Logical System Group I think we are safe as we are using the same Logical System Groups (GRPERP for ERP system + GRPGTS for GTS system) across our system landscape for Dev, Test and Prod. After system copy we just need to check/change the grouping table /SAPSLL/TCOGVA itself for correct entries.
    Thanks again and regards,
    Ulrich

    Hello Kiran,
I did a few tests again yesterday, and it was really a stupid mistake from myside.
The error message did mean, that there wasn't enough space.
It isn't the authority issue, it was a leak of space.
FYI, the complete DB-Size of Source System is required - NOT JUST RESERVED SPACE!!!

  • Activating data in DSO got dump SAPSQL_EMPTY_TABNAME after BW system copy

    Hi all,
We had an issue after system copy.
After a system copy the data in the standard DSOs(all of them) cannot be activated. The DOSs themselves are active, the transformations are active but if one attempts to load data and activate u2013 it does not work. The job terminates with shortdump SAPSQL_EMPTY_TABNAME.
Found the issue is caused by u201Cmore than one versionu201D of the change log.
We tried the Program RSAR_RSTSODS_CHANGELOG_VRS but it didn't work.
We had the solution like this:
After activating the DSO itself(the object) using RSDG_ODSO_ACTIVATE the issue disappears and the data can be activated. Issue also disappears. BUT Drawback: Activating the DSO causes the transformations to deactivate. Then we used the program RSDG_TRFN_ACTIVATE to activate all transformations. And then the issue disappeared.
Want to know what the root cause for this. From some SDN threads, mentioned BDLS job in the post refresh steps are not correctly done during system copy may cause this issue. How did the BDLS run wrongly cause this issue? And what is the exact correct way? We ran BDLS for each source systems inlcuding the target refreshed BW system itself by the default selection - conversion of Client-Dependent and Client-Independent Tables; because we used database copy
    for the system refresh.
We also restored all source systems in RSA1 inlcuding the refreshed BW system own in the post-refresh steps.
Thank you very much for your information and suggestion.
    Heming

Hi Arun, as you say two change log tables it´s strange. In fact in my opinion it´s not right but the problem is that the second change log table appears after executing std SAP report RSDG_ODSO_ACTIVATE in order to be able to activate the DSO. So the solution provided by SAP it works but i´m not sure if the right one. Besides this the original change log table is full of data while the second one is empty... for new loads which are gonna a be filled  by the activation process ? I suppose the second one... will this have some impact with the data stored in the first one... not in theory but.... i do not feel confortable with the consequences of this report.
And the most important, it seems that the reason why the DSO and the change log table had problems is due to a some problems or missing steps after executing the BDLS after BW system refresh but nobody can confirm this point...
So, i´ve been able to solve the issue but now i have two change log tables for the same DSO.
Anybody has the same situation after executing the above mentioned SAP std report ?

    Joaquin Casas Baca-Castex
