System crash and system panic

Hi, I am jus a beginner in solaris. I have few questions to ask. Please help. Thanks
1) if the system crash, wat are the steps to do? check error message? please giv in detail.
2) if the system panic, wat are the steps to do? boot CD-ROM and remove some of the files?
if it is a mirror, wat should I do? break the mirror and remove the files in these 2 hardisks?
3) Any good website to learn about system crash and panic, and troubleshooting case study?
thanks
regards,
raymond

Hi, when system panic, am i still able to boot up to single user mode or multiuser mode? last time when my senior face this problem, he said he cant boot up. and remain in OK prompt. then he said the system panic is becoz of the hdd or mount point is full (95%). so he said jus remove some of the files to reduce the size, then do fsck -f, and then boot up.
is it correct?
since not able to boot up to init 3, so how to boot hardisk (as u mentioned)?
anyther thing, about the crashdump and coredump, i know how to configure and enable it. but is it the files vmcore.0 and unix.0 useful? but as i know that we r hard to read these files.

  • System crash and reboot since Mavericks install

    Hi all
    I have recently upgraded my OS to Mavericks, on my early-2008 Macbook Pro, and have experienced system crashes and reboots since then.
    The crashes occur when using either of my web browsers, Safari and Chrome, and definitely seems to occur more frequently when using YouTube.  I haven't experienced a crash in any other applications.  I have tried updating Flash, then deleting and re-installing Flash when the upgrade was unsuccessful; not sure if this was relevant or related but I thought I'd give it a try anyway.
    System spec:
    Processor  2.6 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    Memory  4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM
    Graphics  NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT 512 MB
    Software  OS X 10.9 (13A603)
    Currently using less than 50% of the 200GB drive.
    Following one of the first crash and reboots, I copied a report to Notes for future reference.  Here is the report:

  • Every time I try to play the video ads for iOS 7, the system crashes and I get a "Safari website quit unexpectedly" message.  I have an iMac 23", 3.06 Intel Core 2 duo.

    I have an iMac 23", 3.06 Intel Core 2 duo.  Whenever I try to play YouTube videos, the system crashes and I get a "Safari quit unexpectedly" message.
    I know there are Apple vs YouTube issues, but the same thing happens when I try to play video ads from the Apple site.
    The computer is 4 yrs old- this problem started a couple of months ago.  No major changes, just updated as available.
    Any suggestions....?

    I don't have any Safari extensions that I know of.  I didn't install any anti-virus.
    This is on the error message when it comes up.  I went to the WebProcess application in Time Machine and tried to restore it to one year ago, but it didn't fix the problem.  As I recall, this began about the time Apple and YouTube parted ways- whether that is coincidence or not...
    /System/Library/StagedFrameworks/Safari/Webkit2.framework/WebProcess.app/Content s/MacOS/WebProcess
    Thanks for taking the time to look at this.  I really appreciate the effort.  I'm a amatuer at this, I'm afraid.

  • When i try to load certain page, the system crashed and the bottom panel states " stopped" but when I close and open firefox again,it can't and I get this message that says my firefox is still running and to open the browser i need to restart the compu

    while browsing suddenly the system crashed and the bottom panel says " stopped".When closed and re-opened, I got a prompt that says firefox is still running and i have to close to open again or have to restart the computer but it doesn't work
    == This happened ==
    Every time Firefox opened
    == just happened

    You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
    Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
    Find your profile folder
    C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
    find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
    Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say?

    system crashed and lost library, want to recover

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't know how to fix the xml file or prevent it's damage except to keep a current backup copy of the domain.sites2 file. You can do that on an hourly basis with Time Machine or use a backup application like Synk Standard which can do incremental backup (i.e. copy just those new or changed files) at any time.
    As for separating the sites into their own domain files I use iWebSites to manage over 75 individual sites. It lets me create multiple sites and multiple domain files.
    If you have multiple sites in one domain file here's the workflow I used to split them into individual site files with iWebSites. Be sure to make a backup copy of your original Domain.sites files before starting the splitting process and move it to another location on your HD until you're satisfied the separation process is completed and what you want.
    This lets me edit several sites and only republish the one I want.
    There is a downside to this method if you're publishing to MobileMe. When publishing multiple sites to MMe from their own separate domain file the last published site will be the default site when using the default URL for that MMe account: http://web.me.com/MobileMeAccountName/. That could mess up any CNAME forwarding if you have a domain name pointed to your default MMe site.

  • My system crashed and need softw

    my system crashed and i need the the software disc that came with my soundblaster li've when i purchased it i cannot find the oringal disc and i dont know where to find a complete download

    I am having the same problem with my soundblaster li've 5. card (model # sb000). I no longer have the original cd that came with my card and cant find the right driver for the card at soundblaster support site. There is a standalone driver there for another model (# sb0600) and that driver will not work with my card.
    I fail to understand why SoundBlaster will NOT post a driver for their older cards. It is probably easier to go and buy another sound card but why should we have to throw away a working card simply because Creative decided NOT to support their older models. It is almost insulting to find out after hours of search that this company decided not to supply drivers for a two year old card.
    For a long time, I had been a fan of Creative products. That will certainly have to change now.
    Please let me know if any of you knows where to download a full driver for my model (# sb000).

  • Known issues with CUDA 5.0.17 driver (including crashes and kernel panics) on Mac OSX

    We have recently learned of some issues with the new CUDA drivers from Nvidia that cause crashes and kernel panics in some circumstances, including when switching between applications that use the GPU.
    See this page for details.

    Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the third-party developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
    Here are some general guidelines. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickYourMac.” First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickyourmac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, email the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickYourMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickYourMac.” If not, open “BrickYourMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button.
    If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase your boot volume and perform a clean reinstallation of OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
    Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" that purport to remove software.

  • How to capture System.err and System.out in a method?

    Is there some way to capture everything that is sent to System.err or System.out and have it instead go to e.g. a method as a String?
    The reason I want to do is this: I am invoking some method from a class that sends output to System.err and System.out but while that method is run, I want everything that goes to System.out or System.err to instead go to a String buffer or a Swing Scroll Pane.
    What is the easiest way to do this?

    I want everything that goes to System.out or System.err to instead go to a String buffer or a Swing Scroll Pane.Then maybe you should be searching (and then posting) in the Swing forum. Thats where I've seen this question asked and answered many times in the past.

  • System.out and System.err

    Hi all,
    This is a stupid newbie question, but I could not find the answer on the Web
    site, so here goes: Where do System.out and System.err get written to? I'm
    trying to deploy some plain-vanilla stateless session beans that do a bunch
    of println() calls, but I can't see the output anywhere! The WebLogic
    Console shows no messages, /myserver/weblogic.log has nothing interesting,
    and there are no .log files anywhere that I can see. I even searched /tmp
    and found nothing of interest. What am I missing? Do I have to explicitly
    open a file for System.out and/or System.err? That doesn't sound right...

    The simple answer to your questions are no and no.
    I recently logged a problem with BEA WebLogic technical support regarding
    this issue and their response is:
    You have two choices. You can either use standard Java file i/o to write
    your output to a file, or you can use our t3loggingservices to append
    messages into the weblogic.log
    The "jump point" for the logging services is at --
    http://www.weblogic.com/docs51/classdocs/javadocs/weblogic/common/LogService
    sDef.html
    It is actually very easy to use -- after you import the proper packages into
    your web application it is just as easy to use as System.out.println.

    I'm running WebLogic as an NT Service. Is there any way to see the
    System.out.println messages? Can they be redirected to the weblogic.log
    file?
    We were running through a DOS Window and saw all the messages, however we
    ideally want to run Weblogic as a service.

    I'm guessing that you started the server with the .exe file on Windows.
    If you're debugging with printlns, it's generally more conventient to
    use the startWebLogic.sh or startWebLogic.cmd files to start the server
    from a shell.
    By default, you'll see stdout and stderr in the window.

    Regards,
    Bryan

    Hi Brian ,
    you cal also download latest ESS and MSS business packages from -->
    download the business package from service market place.
    Navigate through Downloads --> SAP Support Package --> Entry by Application group --> SAP Application Components --> SAP ERP --> SAP ERP2005 -->Entry Point by component -->SAP XSS Self - Service --> SAP ESS 600.
    and similar for MSS 600 business package.
    You cal also refer to this Note for further details about Self Services Business Packages.

    Hope this helps.
    And Regarding System Alias names, there is no such specific name you should keep, as no standard name exists , read more about it on.
    [system aliases|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70/helpdata/en/e9/9bc93f92908032e10000000a11405a/frameset.htm]
    Also,
    System Aliases and SAP Systems
    For SAP systems (BW, CRM, and so on), it is recommended to use a system alias that has as its name parameter the logical system name as defined in the SAP system itself. The logical system is specified in Table T000 in the SAP system.
    Reward points if helpful

  • System.out and System.err  How to get to show up in log

    Does anyone know if there is anyway to get System.out and System.err
    messages to appear in the log?
    Trying to build and debug a JSP project is a complete nightmare when the
    remote developers cannot see System.out or System.err messages from helper
    classes.
    Platform= Windows NT 4.0
    Weblogic running as a Service
    Thanks in advance!

    Write a wrapper class to redirect the std out to what ever stream you want.

  • Diffence system.current_item and system.cursor_item

    hi
    Diffence system.current_item and system.cursor_item
    and diff between decode and case stmt Which is best to use.
    thanks

    the :system.current_<...> - variables are for upgrade-compatibility with older forms. Don't use them.
    Forms-Help :
    Note: SYSTEM.CURRENT_ITEM is included for compatibility with previous versions. Oracle recommends that you use SYSTEM.CURSOR_ITEM or SYSTEM.TRIGGER_ITEM instead.

  • System.setOut() and System.setErr()

    Hi
    In my application, I capture all of the println()s to System.out and System.err so that I can display them in a TextArea using a Thread as such:
    final PipedInputStream stdoutStream = new PipedInputStream();
    PrintStream stdout = new PrintStream(new PipedOutputStream(stdoutStream));
    System.setOut(stdout);
    final PipedInputStream stderrStream = new PipedInputStream();
    PrintStream stderr = new PrintStream(new PipedOutputStream(stderrStream));
    System.setErr(stderr);
    // start listening to stdout stream
    new Thread()
      public void run()
        try
          BufferedReader stdoutReader = new BufferedReader(new InputStreamReader(stdoutStream));
          String line = "";
          while (line != null)
            line = stdoutReader.readLine();
            messageArea_.append(line + "\n"); // <----- TextArea
        catch (Throwable t)
          t.printStackTrace();
    }.start();
    // ...and same for stderr...
    stdout.close();
    stderr.close();
    // revert System.out and System.err back to default streams
    System.setOut(System.out);    <--------- !!!
    System.setErr(System.err);    <--------- !!! The last two line don't behave as I expect, and all output continues to go the the TextArea instead of to System.out and System.err.
    Can someone please explain what I've done wrong and how I can go about reverting System.out and System.err?
    Thanks in advance

    While the second option may be better in terms of code
    style, the first option is still valid and shouldn't
    pose problems (the only difference is he writes a
    carriage return on the first line regardless). Maybe
    I'm missing something ashutosh?Hi schillj, here's the thing, the check for line != null is done before the "first" readLine() is called. So if the first readLine returns a null, it would still send it to the text area. In the my sugested code the first call's results are checked as well.
    while (line != null)  {
    line = stdoutReader.readLine();        messageArea_.append(line + "\n"); // <--TextArea
