System crash, now aperture won't run

I just bought aperture yesterday. While testing tethered shooting today, it crashed the entire system. The entire screen darkened and I got a message telling me to hold down the power key for a restart.
After reboot, now aperture starts up, displays the interface, then the spinning beach ball comes up and that's all she wrote. No indication of what's wrong.
Could the crash have corrupted the database? Is there a list of files to remove for complete and total removal of aperture so I can reinstall?

That sounds like a "Kernel Panic".
That should not have happened in the first place.
I'd go through all the motions: Software Update, repair permissions etc to make sure that the system itself is stable.
Do you have any 3rd party/generic RAM?
The easiest way to remove the Application is AppZapper, but you can do it manually.
It's easier for you to spotlight Aperture than to list all the places Aperture puts files. Just be sure your spotlight preferences are set to search everywhere.

I ended up putting it in DFU mode. It's kinda hard to tell it was in DFU mode because nothing showed on the screen, it was just black, but the sounds from the computer helped to tell me it was connected.
Itunes still didn't recognize the device for whatever reason.
So I used redsn0w. I don't know if I can say that on these forums, but considering itunes was worthless at this point I am going to give credit where credit is due.
Now I am giving itunes a second chance to upgrade to 5.1, if it doesn't work, well, back to redsnow and maybe I will even jailbreak it this time rather than just using the fecovery fix found under extras.

My iphoto library was opened remotely via sharing on a computer using a newer (10.7) operating system. Now it won't open on mine (10.6). It says it needs a newwer version of iphoto, and I want this computer to stay at 10.6 for compatability with other programs. How can I access my photos?

When the library was opened you were warned this would happen.
You can restore your Library from your back up.
You can try revert the Library to the earlier version using iPhoto Library Manager
Or you upgrade to the same version.

Yes, this did solve the problem. But I had some trouble updating QuickTime. It failed, with the installer complaining that it did not have the required permissions to install the files it needed in the program directory. I got it to work by telling it to install the files to another directory. All seems well now - Thanks!

I try and lauch aperture (click on icon in dock..have also tried icon in application folder) and i get an error message that says Aperture cannot be opened because of a problem. check with developer..... you may need to reinstall....) tried reinstalling from disk. also downloaded updates from apple and when click on update it tells me i must have aperture 3 installed for update to work. i DO have aperture 3 installed but it wont recognize it. i have tried restarting my machine that did't help either. Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features(Later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
and paste into:
C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

3G Ipod caused System Crash - now my MS Office 2008 doesn't work properly

I, in retrospect foolishly, plugged in a 3G iPod that I don't own. It beeped about 4-5 time and then the system crashed (you know that one that brings up that overlay and you must restart the computer?). I had been running Entourage, Word, Excel, iTunes and Firefox.
I then went to start up my work again and the MS Office programmes kept crashing. Apparently the MS Office database was damaged. I tried to repair it according to instruction but it didn't work.
I did a permissions check and repair. I also checked for damaged files. This indicated that Adobe CS3 Device Central was damaged, System Sync (MS), My Day and Google Updater (coincidental?) were all damaged.
I have completely removed all Adobe and MS Office files (hunting them down with spotlight), un-installing where possible with MS Office and Adobe software and Appzapper.
I removed all the other files that were damaged then re-installed the software (MS Office without Entourage and Adobe PS and Illustrator).
I rechecked for damaged files and still Device Central was damaged and MS Office is being a pain in the butt. Word takes forever to open, save and close. Excel is as bad and copying cells stalls the programme.
My impression is that there is something still in the system that is messing up MS Office and Adobe. Could it all have originated from the system crash and the crappy iPod?
Can anyone tell me what I can do, files to delete... ANYTHING! I have re-installed Office several times with no improvement.

System Reinstalled-now iTunes won't open

I downloaded the new iTunes yesterday and today had some computer problems and had to go reinstall my system from Monday. Now, iTunes won't open at all, I just keep getting the error "The iTunes application could not be opened. An unknown error occured." Any ideas of what I can do to fix this?

It did for me. And I wanted to thank the group for the advice!
I was sweating bullets when it was installing. Almost four thousand handpicked songs accumulated over four years. Names, Dates, Album Art, etc.

I downloaded the newest update, and now iTunes won't open at all. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, and emptying my "temp" folder, but to no avail. Any ideas?

Well, I fiddled around with things more, and now it's running. I think what made it work was by going to All Programs, where I saw Apple Software Update. I ran that, and it seemed to do the trick. I hope this helps other people with the same problem.

System crash now Motion becomes unresponsive on startup

Had a system crash with the dark screen forcing me to hold the power button to shut it down. Now I have reopened Motion and as soon as its started up and I go to the toolbar (File Edit etc....) the program hangs. I have tried getting round this by just double clicking on a saved project to open it and instead it hangs on the Motion startup screen.
Any ideas?

Just left a project opening and unresponsive without realising and then saw it open in the background behind safari a full 15 minutes after I clicked open - Its a very small project file with 3 text boxes and gradient background and an image so it's not due to it being a complicated sequence.

System crash - now external drive problem

Hi,
I recenlty bought a Maxtor OnetouchIII firewire external drive because my disk was getting full. I transfered a lot of files to it and freed about 70gb of space. Shortly afterward I started to get a system crash on start-up - with the grey box saying I need to re-start. This would not go away so I ran a the system check cd (OK) then re-booted from a back-up drive I keep. This seemed to fix the problem and the system worked again when I switched back to it. Then the problem happened again and rebooting from the back-up did not work.
I had to reinstall 10.3 then update again to 10.3.9, which I had before. Everything seems fine now apart from one annoying problem - I cannot drag files from the Maxtor drive onto Apps, which I could do before. They will only open from within apps.
Does anyone know how to solve this trivial but very annoying problem?? Also - is it possible the drive caused my crash, or is it a coincidence?

Action Set renamed - Now actions won't run

I had a set of actions named "Kevin's Actions" to "Kevin's Actions CS5" (I have both CS5 and CS3 installed.
However, when I tried to run actions that had references to an action entitled "Kevin's Actions" it wouldn't run. Seeing the problem I tried simply dropped the CS5 and renamed the action set BACK to the original "Kevin's Actions".
THE PROBLEM: The actions still won't run.
Is there a way to get them running again? I really don't wan to have to re-creating them ....????
