System crashing, no idea why
ok sometime in the night the system crashed, leaving only a blank screen and blinking capslock and scrolllock lights on the keyboard. couldnt reboot, etc. same thing just happened while using a text editor and azureus, crashes, video stayed on, but blinking keyboard lights. any ideas what could be going on
this is on a 1-day old fresh install of arch64

Was the panic logged? (Blinking keyboard lights indicates a kernel panic.)
If not, see if you can cause it while not in X, and it should come out on your console.

Firefox keeps crashing, no idea why.
So I recently switched from Opera to Firefox because they had a horrible updated that stripped all the features I loved. Anyways, the first week or so after using firefox it worked fine and never crashed, now recently it crashes almost every 30 minutes or so. I get a crash report asking me if I want to restart. I have no idea why it keeps crashing and I have tried closing all my tabs (I usually have about 6-7 open at all times), but the problem is still there. Thats whats in the crash report after it crashes. I always check the submit to mozilla checkbox when it crashes but that doesn't help me solve it. -
Eudora keeps crashing - any idea why
I just got new HD for MacBook running 10.6.3. The replacement HD from apple care for some reason was installed with 10.5.x so I did a restore by using carbon copy cloner via a good backup HD. I then ran diskwarrior to rebuild the HD, also disk utility with repair permissions. Ever since my Eudora [yes I am one of the few still using this ] keeps on crashing after a few minutes.
Anyone have an idea as to why? I tried deleting eudora and documents, then use time machine backup from mid june backup [as opposed to july backup just before replacing HD]. But after downloading all the emails/attachments, still keeps on crashing...
Appreciate help with this.Here's some points about eudora to keep in mind when trouble shooting it. Since you said you restored from a (presumably) working backup you should not be having any problems but I'll mention this stuff anyhow.
One thing I recall about eudora when running on [snow] leopard was that it's "Getting Attention" preferences sounds should not be set to use eudora's own built in sounds. So make sure you use some of your system sounds (or any you might have in your own ~/Library/Sounds folder). Hopefully that will fix it. If not try the following experiment.
As a control experiment temporarily rename your ~/Documents/Eudora Folder. Do this while Eudora is not executing of course.
With the newly created Eudora folder and possibly Getting Attention sounds changes play around a little while to see if eudora is still crashing on you. I would assume (hope) it would not. That means something fouled up in your "real" Eudora Folder. Get rid of the one created by the experiment and rename your original real eudora folder back as "Eudora Folder". Now finding what's wrong in there is not going to be straight-forward.
Possible places that could break in the eudora folder are a mail box (in the Mail Folder), Eudora Settings (where all your preferences are kept), plugins in the Eudora Items, Eudora Filters, and Cache Folder. All you can do is replace each piece one by one until the crash goes away. -
Mini system crash - looking for why
My mini crashed and I received a 'kernel' 'panic' message after it restarted itself. I am using the machine to run an art installation. Unfortunately the system will not auto-start after the system restarts. The mini is running 10.8.5 operating system. Applications running at the time included Terminal (running a python script) and SuperCollider. JustineIf the problem is still there, try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.

it shows a windows error report like 5 seconds after itunes starts and it shuts down
also if i have my ipod plugged when i start it it also shows n error report for the sync program and 1 more thing...
anyways... i tried repairing itunes from the program control panel
i tried removing itunes and then reinstalling it
i tried removing and installing an older version (10.3) after deleting the itunes itl library files
heck, i tried deleting all of the itunes libraries and i even deleted all my apps (after backuping them ofc) and itunes still crashes 5sec after it opens
i am using windows xp sp2 and i just dont have a clue about what happened... it just started yesturday

Any suggestions.OK, restart in Safe Mode, this will clear some caches. It's possible one or more is corrupt. To restart in Safe Mode when you hear the start up tone hold down the Shift Key until you see a progress bar. Let it fully boot then restart normally and test.
Also I am assuming you have checked Finder - Preferences - General and see what boxes are checked in "Show these items on desktop." You can also mount an item in Disk Utility, simply highlight it and then look in the File menu for Mount..... -
My Mac keeps crashing (whole system) when I'm watching videos with Firefox, any idea why?
Ok so I got a new mac and as usual install firefox which is my favorite browser, suddenly my computer started crashing, not just firefox the whole system froze and I had to reboot to make it work again, I didn't know what was happening until I noticed that said crashes happen when I was watching videos on firefox, I tried to use chrome and the issue was gone. So anyone has any idea why this is happening? I really would love to start using firefox again!

Why does Final Cut cause a hard system crash after upgrading computer's memory?
2x2.8 gHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon MacPro that orginally came with 2gBs of memory. We upgraded to 4gBs of memory by adding 2 1gB ram chips. Ever since, Final Cut Pro has been causing hard system crashes. Does anybody have an idea why this is happening?
Installing memory is very specific
the correct type of DIMMs must be installed in the correct slots dependant on the type of processor fitted
install exactly as per the Mac Pro guidelines here:

you will have to reload the web page a few times after the page warning to down load correctly (command R)
if it is per the instructions and your having trouble, the DIMMs are most likely faulty -
In my Macbook Pro, on a few occassions, the apple menu bar blacks out. its displayed as a negative image. The desktop wallpaper get greyed out and i get a blank screen as wallpaper. No idea why this happens. I reset the system and issue gets resolved.

i keep trying to download the Photoshop free trial on my windows xp but an error message that says "You are running an operating system that Photoshop no longer supports" pops up, any idea why?
Because Photoshop CC requires Windows 7 or above...

Safari is crashing frequently. Any idea why?
I have owned my iPad 2 since march and have never had this problem. It's been happening for a week or so now. I cleared cookies and everything but it did not help. I have no idea why this is happening. I must assume it has something to do with iOS 5 but i dont know. Any idea how to fix? Thanks.
***note: it crashes when on text, picture, and video websites*** only happends when in safari.Have you tried a hard reset of your I pad? Hold down the home button and the on/off button for 10 sec until the apple logo apprears. If that does not help, you may need to restore the I Pad

Itunes crashes when iTunes Match runs its Step 3 (not before) - any ideas why and how to fix it?
Every time iTunes runs the iTunes Match, when iTunes MAtch gets to Step 3 - iTunes stops working - ie crashes. Any idea why and how to fix it? The songs are still uploaded to iCloud etc... but it crashe iTunes every single time
I cannot explain the failure, but I can tell you that I have a string of approx. 24 emails with Apple and a combined 10hrs of talk time with Apple customer reps that tried helping me precisely for the issue that iTunes Match would crash at Step 3 without fail. Apple even logged my Console and I was talking to an engineer that literally wrote part of the code for iTunes Match (that was the fourth and last level of customer care I was escalated to). The poor man almost quite his job, and I just about demanded a refund for my $25, since iTunes Match simply wasn't working.
Then I studied at a friend's place, and I noticed that all of a sudden, while iTunes was running in the background, half my library was already uploaded and things were progressing smoothly. It turns out that it had something to do with my modem specifically, as I had already hooked up my computer straight to the modem, taking the router (TimeCapsule) out of the equation. Nothing worked. Firewalls were turned off, no AntiVirus existed, and Apple engineers tried everything possible, incl. remote access on my computer, to get this to work. Nothing worked as long as I was connected to a Motorola Surboard.
At every other network, wether at Starbucks, my university, or at friends places, however, iTunes Match worked flawlessly.
After some research online, it turnes out that a handful of people with Motorola Surrboard Xtreme cable modems had similar issues. Eversince, I simply use my neighbors wifi should I need to upload songs, and I have no issues. Oddly enough, matching (not uploading) works just fine with my Motorola.
Don't ask me how or why, I am interested in computers and work with them a lot, but I am no engineer. I can tell you that simple scientific method pinpointed to the modem, and I haven't had issues since then. -

Photoshop keeps crashing only seconds after starting, any ideas why?
Every time I open photoshop it works for a few seconds, maybe just long enough to open something, then it comes up saying something is wrong and it needs to close... I have no idea why!! Any ideas would be much appreciated!
How much available disk space do you have? Do you have a physically separate, dedicated hard drive for Photoshop's scratch file, or is your internal boot drive the only one you have? If the latter, you have to keep in mind that Photoshop's scratch is going to be competing with the only read/write head. Between both, you'll need truly oodles of contiguous available hard drive spaces (hundreds of GB).
What troubleshooting steps have you tried so far? Have you re-installed Photoshop by uninstalling the Ps install you have, then running the Adobe CS Clean tool and re-installing Photoshop from scratch?
Have you deleted or nuked the (most likely corrupted) Photoshop preferences files?
Sorry, but most of us here simply dismiss vague statement like "a tonne of this or that" or "everything is up to date". We need the exact version numbers and specs. Users are very often wrong about "everything being up to date".
"Around 16 GB" immediately arouses suspicion. Sorry.
