System crashing repeatedly inherited project with avi

Recently installed FCP7/0 Started someone's project using mixed footage till we can replace with final picture. Final project is 1080i 25fps apple pro res.
Some footage in sequences have avi files. Could this be a problem

What that means is that you haven't told us anything about your the media specs. AVI means squat. It's a framework for all types of media in different codecs and resolutions and frame rates.
Also running a trial run of Flash on system could that be a problem
What's that mean? You're running a beta version of a Flash player? No, it shouldn't effect FCP at all.

  • System Crashes repeatedly - hard drive issue?

I've been using my G4 933MHz with 2 internal hard drives for quite some time. I started having issues with the system crashing, while the system drive made a binding or poer up/down sound repeatedly. The drives were stacked on top of one another, so I bought a new cable and separated the 2 drives so they are now side by side. I thought maybe it was happening because they were getting too hot or something. The system worked for a few weeks, but is now back to having the same problem.
I've run both the Apple Disk utility and Tech Tool Pro and neither really come up with any problems. The Apple disk utility used to have issues seeing the drives right after a crash. Now it either sees them and says no fix needed or it doesnt see either drive at all.
Tech Tool Pro used to see both drives and all tests ran successfully. Now, I pretty much get a hardware nor supprted message each time I run it. At first I thought my system drive was the problem, but now I'm not sure. The fact that neither drive shows up in the disk utility makes me wonder if there is not some bigger problem. Both drives work perfectly fine sometimes. If I boot up a few times, they eventually show up and everything works fine for about 10-15 minutes, but eventually it crashes again.
Has anyone encountered this problem before? Or have insight into what might be wrong and how I could fix it? Or are there any other tests I can run, besides the normal hard drive tests? I'd just hate to go spend the money on a new hard drive to find out that my drives are fine and it's the system itself that is the problem. Any help is greatly appreciated.
By the way, the second drive is almost identical to the drive that came with the computer. I bought it from a mac dealer and it is the same brand.
    Thanks,
    Wil

They're both on the same ide cable. It's been setup this way for quite some time. One drive is setup as a master, the other as a slave. Never had any problems for the past couple of years. Issue just started about a month ago. Don't recall anything that may have triggered it. Just one night when I was sitting there, the whole thing froze. Ever since then, it has been freezing sporatically. Now it's doing it about every 2 minutes from when I get it booted up...if I can even get it to boot. Most of the time it just sits on a grey screen, then goes to the blinking folder with the system face and question mark, then after about 20 seconds of that, it eventually boots into the system drive and freezes or boots to the cd. It's completely random from what I can tell, as to which happens.

  • Win7 Pro system crashes repeatedly (B.S.O.D.)while running FF 9.0.1

Since installing FF 9.0.1 my Windows 7 Pro system has crashed (Blue Screen Of Death - BSOD) at least once daily while running Firefox. It does not do so while running any other application. I've run full system virus and malware checks with several apps - system appears to be clear. Windows is fully up to date and protected with Norton firewall and Norton On-line.

  • System crashes after waking; problems with distnoted, graphics chip error

I am running 10.3.9 on a Dual 1 GHz G4, with 1.5 GB SDRAM, a GeForce4 Ti 4600 LCD display, and a LaCie 1394 external drive. I have recently started to put my computer to sleep at night, rather than leaving it running 24 hours a day (I also installed sleepwatcher, to allow me to put my computer to sleep remotely, and anacron, to allow the nightly system maintenance jobs to continue to run). This was working fine for about a week, but for the last two days, when I woke my computer up in the morning, I got kernel panics after a few minutes. First some aspects of the display would start to get mangled (e.g. strange lines appearing, some text that I typed not showing up, icons in the dock looking speckled, etc.), then some applications would stop responding, and then a minute or so later I would get the feared kernel panic message ("You need to restart your computer" in multiple languages).
This problem only seems to occur after the computer has been asleep for a long time (I've only experienced it after it's been asleep for 12 hours or so, and not when it's only been asleep for a few minutes). The only thing I can think of that I've changed in the last few days is an AppleScript that mounts my external LaCie drive (using "do shell script diskutil mountDisk ...") before backing up my files - using FoldersSynchronizer - then putting my computer to sleep (before I was never UNmounting this drive, so I didn't have to mount it in the AppleScript - I was still using the script to back up the files then put the computer to sleep).
I have tried running Apple's Disk Utility (both to repair the permissions, and to repair the disk), DiskWarrior (to rebuild my startup disk), fsck, and TechTool Deluxe. None seemed to reveal any major errors except the "Surface Scan" in TechTool, which failed, presumably because of media defects in the disk (but my understanding is that fixing this would require reformatting my disk, something that I only want to do as a last resort).
My system.log shows the following, from the time I woke my computer to the time I restarted (I've highlighted some suspicious-looking lines). It seems like the problem might either be occurring in distnoted, or with the graphics chip. Any thoughts on how I can determine the cause of the problem?

Yesterday's crash looks similar, except that the Graphics chip error occurs 13 seconds before the distnoted error (rather than after the distnoted error), and rather than a crash of "MouseWorks Background" there was a crash of "WindowServer". Any thoughts on what might be causing this problem? I will continue to test the effects of changing various aspects of my configuration, but since I can only get the problem to occur once a day (after my computer has been asleep for a while), it might take me a few days or weeks to track the problem down through blind trial-and-error.
    Thanks!
Dual 1 GHz G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   1.5 GB SDRAM, GeForce4 Ti 4600 LCD display, LaCie 1394 external drive

After a little experimentation, I've managed to narrow the problem down a little, but still haven't resolved it. My computer still crashes almost every time I wake it up after a long sleep (multiple hours). Things work fine for a few minutes, but then some aspects of the display start to get mangled (e.g. strange lines appearing, text becoming distorted, etc.), then some applications start crashing and the system hangs. Sometimes I get a kernel panic, but not always - but I always need to reboot to solve the problem.
The errors in the system log files differ from crash to crash, but the one thing that seems to be consistent is that I get a "Graphics chip error". Is this usually a hardware problem, or can it be due to a software problem? Sometimes this graphics chip error is the first error to occur, although sometimes an application will crash a few seconds before the graphics chip error is recorded in the system.log.
In my original post, I suggested that the problem might be due to an AppleScript that mounts an external drive. I have since determined that this is NOT the cause of the problem.
Any thoughts on what might be going on?

    any suggestion welcome......

Ok,  I  cannot seam to locate the actual RPM's for the drive so below is what I could find.  I have been editing other DV for some time now so Ims not sure on this.
On the G-spot app, I ran it on the file I'm having the trouble with and it showed me nothing, I almost thought I was doing something wrong until I ran it on another DV that I know is running ok and it showed me the information about that DV.  I ran it again on the video I'm having the problem with and again nothing.  Does thiat mean its not recognizing the codec.

  • System Crashs / Freezes in Games with Audigy 2 ZS b

    Hello,
I can play any Game 5 min , then the Computer frezze and i must restart.
I tried any pci slots, no chance
    My System:
    AMD 64 3500+ Winchester
    MSI K8N Diamond
    Kingston HyperX 024MB
    Geforce 6600GT
I follow the Tip with the System..from ACPI Uniprozessor to ACPI-PC and i disabled the Function in my Bios.
No Chance...Freezes in every Games :?(
Sry for my English i?m from germany ^^ but i hope anywhere can help me.

I'm having the same problem. At first I thought it was only in 5. analog mode, but I just had a game crash when using 2. settings. In 5. I get the lockup immediately even when playing an mp3.
    windows xp pro
    dell dimension 8200
    2.0GH p4
    768MB ram
    s/b audigy 2 zs platinum
I just did a full OS reinstall (I was overdue on it, and having this problem crop up only gave me another reason to get it done). I ran all the utilities off the driver disk that came with the card, and then used the creative auto-update feature to download all the latest drivers. Conflict with recent windows update, perhaps?

  • Just had a complet system crash, had to reboot with power buton.

    Dear all,
Some days ago I had a random Xorg crash while I was reading my emails. It happend just once, I though it was nothing. A few minutes ago, monitor went black, sound stopped, num lock light freezed (pressing the button didnt turned it off), alt+printscr+{b,o} did nothing.
How can I discover what caused this?
I also see some problems with how the image in monitor is showed, here one example of the botton of the page "create new topic" in this forum:
Some windows appears with repetitions when resized (I use awesome window manager). But I do not know if this is related to the crash problem.

    Is this a hardware problem??

Using a vacuum cleaner around a computer is extremely bad advice.  Vacuum cleaners build up static on them as part of their normal use.  If you happen to make contact with a part of your computer and the vacuum that will discharge the static.  Any static discharge has the potential to fry your computer components - they are very fragile chips when it comes to electricity.  Do not use a vacuum on your computer.  Compressed air cans are what you should be using however the entire line of thought that it may be dust build up causing a poor connection is suspect itself.  You can make sure that the components inside your computer are well seated in their slots if you wish to explore that possibility.  The suggestion of switching to the open-source driver is most likely to provide quality feedback.  Be sure to read:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ati
    The open-source driver page.

It begun with 10.8 usualy with few tries it work but with 4.6 no succes.
    Any suggestion?

If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out these instructions.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don't post shutdownStall, spin, or hang reports.

  • Updating to 5.0 & system crash

I recently received an email from itunes to update to 5.0. i went thru the steps and later that night had a system crash. i ended up with a dialogue box that indicated i had a sasser worm. when i reinstalled xp, i had lost my music library. does anyone know if i can get the music i purchsed "reloaded" without charge?
also, i bot a 2nd ipod prior to this and loaded it with my music library. the first ipod playbacks are very clear. the second ipod has a lot of static when i play it back. does that sound like the 2nd ipod is defective, or does the music "warp" over time when you synch the ipod?

    Hi Joy
First if your music is all on your iPod, then here is how to transfer it back to your computer:
Don King Resurrected, "Deleted files from hard drive" #1, 01:49am May 30, 2005 CDT
Second, try restoring the 2nd iPod:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983
But note that this will wipe everything from the iPod's hard-drive so make sure you have all you music files back on your computer before doing this.

  • System crash - now external drive problem

    Hi,
I recenlty bought a Maxtor OnetouchIII firewire external drive because my disk was getting full. I transfered a lot of files to it and freed about 70gb of space. Shortly afterward I started to get a system crash on start-up - with the grey box saying I need to re-start. This would not go away so I ran a the system check cd (OK) then re-booted from a back-up drive I keep. This seemed to fix the problem and the system worked again when I switched back to it. Then the problem happened again and rebooting from the back-up did not work.
I had to reinstall 10.3 then update again to 10.3.9, which I had before. Everything seems fine now apart from one annoying problem - I cannot drag files from the Maxtor drive onto Apps, which I could do before. They will only open from within apps.
Does anyone know how to solve this trivial but very annoying problem?? Also - is it possible the drive caused my crash, or is it a coincidence?
    Thanks for any help.
    Theo

    I figured it out.

I can't provide you guys with anything, it's been with this guy for over a month. I've been running with 6GB for the past 2 years with no problems until I dusted out the inside of the case. Obviously it aggravated the problem I had two years ago.
i agree, maybe that wasn't the solution. it was after all 2 years ago and my memory was fuzzy. After a month and a half with this guy I got my comp back today. He reinstalled windows 7 and updated the BIOS. That helped out a lot, but it still froze twice, and reset it's self once with 6GB RAM in it. I took the 3rd RAM stick out, givign me 4GB, and noticed that my graphics drivers weren't updated yet, so maybe that was the reason for the crashes? I'm not so sure about that either though, because after I updated the GPU drivers it froze not too long after that. Maybe I needed to reboot for the drivers to take full effect? it didn't prompt me to restart, so I'm a little uncertain there.
I was thinking of trying it with 6GB RAM again, now that my graphics drivers are up to speed and the system has been rebooted.

  • System Crash resulting in lost work...HELP with data recovery!

I need help. I was working on some art for an event and had a system crash. I was 95% complete with this particular project and am now back to square one unless I can recover all of the data or some of the data. Does anyone know how to recover data in Photoshop CS? I'm desperate!!!

1.Install a recovery tool on some other system.
2.Place ur hard disc as secondry disc on this system
    3.select ur crashed disc

  • Repeated system crashes on report

Whilst generating reports within Diadem 10 my collegues and I have been experiencing repeated system crashes that result in Diadem closing. Any guidance would be appreciated as this is so frequent as to cause real issues with the usability of this software.

  • Problem with iTunes suspected to cause system crashes.

I have been having problems lately with using iTunes. I'll try to explain the troubles as best I can.
When iTunes is running, sometimes can be a couple minutes, sometimes half an hour, i will always eventually get a system crash of a very strange nature. The usb power will cut out, the sound will click repeatedly, and the last image displayed on the monitor will be frozen on.
    Steps I have tried:
Reinstalling 10.1.1 including a removal of all itunes, quicktime, and apple software packages from my computer, reduced frequency of issue, still happens though.
    Downgrading to 10.0/10.0.0
    no real effect.
Downgrading to last version of 9
problem seemed to go away (might just be significantly less frequent), but I realized I cannot sync my ipod touch 4g with itunes 9.
Looking for any insight or similar experiences.
    Thank you for your time.

I haven't had the issues of iTunes freezing, but yet one more example of iTunes issues on a Win7 64 bit OS. I have NUMEROUS sync issues when trying to sync only my music on Win7 64bit OS. After I close iTunes, there is ALWAYS a small iTunes window open advising it is "backing up" but the main iTunes window is closed, the iPhone4 does not indicate it is 'syncing' and the only way to get rid of it is to kill it in task manager.
Some of the errors I receive in iTunes when syncing are:
    1. Some of the items were NOT copied to iPhone "iPhone" because one ore more errors occured.
    2. Attempting to copy to the disk "iPhone" failed. An internal device error occured.
    3. The iPhone "iPhone" can NOT be synced. An unknown error occured (0xE8004006).
    4. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. The required file can not be found.
    5. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. A duplicate filename was specified.
    6. The iPhone "iPhone" can not be synced. An internal device error occured.
These errors keep appearing one after the other.
I have fully uninstalled iTunes and ALL Apple programs.
I have tried changing time zones.
I have created a new user account on same laptop and still have same issues with iTunes.
Yet iTunes works fine on a Win7 32bit operating system for me.
I just cant easily go back to that though as that old laptop is barely functional anymore, hence getting a new laptop.
But I have read many issues with iTunes freezing and sync issues, and all of them appear to be coming from 64bit OS of win7. Any help from Apple? Anyone?

  • Yosemite System Crashes on Boot with Dell U2713HM

Previously under Mavericks I had no issue with a Dell U2713HM monitor and my 'non-stock' NVidia card.  (The reason I'm using the video card I am is because the stock ATI card (ATI Radeon HD 2600 XT) is known do fry itself which I discovered after replacing it with an identical card and having the 2nd one fry itself after a year.  I did a lot of research and settle don the card I now have because others had reported success with it.  It worked fine for nearly a year until updating to Yosemite.)
After upgrading to Yosemite my system went into an infinite reboot loop on startup.  On a hunch, I swapped out my U2713HM for an old 17" monitor and was able to boot.  I can't even have the U2713HM plugged in/turned off using the second port on the card without the system crashing.  If I get the system booted using the 17", I can then plug in/turn on the U2713HM and set the resolution - at that point I can (sometimes) boot but it will then crash on shutdown triggering an automatic restart.
Is anyone having any success with a U2713HM, and especially with an NVidia card?  The only option I haven't tried is a completely fresh, clean install.  Once the system boots, I get the dialog that it was restarted because of an issue and can view part of the dump info that will be sent to Apple -> that clearly indicates the issue is with the kernel/NVidia driver somewhere.
System specs:  Mac Pro (Early 2008) with an NVidia GeForce GTX 650 1024MB card installed running Yosemite (OS X 10.10)

My mac mini (late 2012, Yosemite installed) doesn't start with Dell U2713HM if the USB cable of the monitor is connected.
No problems if I connect the usb-cable after successful startup. Also the usb-hub of the Dell is working fine then.
