System crashing with 6GB RAM, fine with 4GB

got my system being fixed by a professional, but we're stuck right now trying to find a solution to my problem. The system is fine with 4GB in any slot, but when the third stick is put in, the system crashes.
I'll go into some more detail of my troubles, this should help in the solution.
system was built out of Fry's Electronics 2 years ago. From the moment that I took it home I was having this problem. I thought it might be a faulty RAM stick at the time, so I had them replaced, but to no avail. The soluton if I remember was to reformat. Everything was fine for 2 years.
last month I opened up the system and cleaned the dust out of the inside. I removed the RAM and the CPU fan. Hooked everything back up and the system starts crashing and rebooting like crazy, and there's the problem again. It would crash while it's booting up, while it's sitting at the desk top, while I'm on the internet, any time it wanted to crash, it would do so. Not only that, but my BIOS and graphics drivers were suddenly out of date for some reason. I keep my drivers up to date, so this was weird to me.
I'll forward the ideas that you guys come up with to my guy, thanks ahead for your assistance.

i agree, maybe that wasn't the solution. it was after all 2 years ago and my memory was fuzzy. After a month and a half with this guy I got my comp back today. He reinstalled windows 7 and updated the BIOS. That helped out a lot, but it still froze twice, and reset it's self once with 6GB RAM in it. I took the 3rd RAM stick out, givign me 4GB, and noticed that my graphics drivers weren't updated yet, so maybe that was the reason for the crashes? I'm not so sure about that either though, because after I updated the GPU drivers it froze not too long after that. Maybe I needed to reboot for the drivers to take full effect? it didn't prompt me to restart, so I'm a little uncertain there.
I was thinking of trying it with 6GB RAM again, now that my graphics drivers are up to speed and the system has been rebooted.

IMac late 2009 with 6GB RAM, slow with Yosemite

Have you ever used that small pc computers with slow processors, called netbooks? This is what my super fast iMac late 2009 (6GB RAM) with Mavericks turned into, after upgrading it to Yosemite OS X.
I mean, processor itself doesn't look to busy, but user experience is click and wait (when nothing happens, I almost want to click again but then action happens). Opening window animation is like slide show - it is not smooth as it was before, with Mavericks.

Nothing specially busy here, just slow Yosemite. When I open Safari, Mail, iPhoto and iTunes, it is not good to open any other app, because I might wait much more. I caught my self using iPad while opening fifth app on iMac (just to get an idea, how very slow it feels).

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

Well it depends on the age. http://www.everymac.com/ should help you identify the age of the two models.
Apple may use two processors called i5, but newer models have different optimizations than older models.
The processor is usually not the main affect on speed. RAM helps, but barely unless everything is on an SSD already. Hard drive speed is usually the limiting factor of speed on computers. eSATA hard drives with higher RPM can often yield the fastest results because notebook hard drives tend to be slower that are not SSD, but for those you need either Express/34 or Thunderbolt based adapters.

Lastest firefox version not compatible with FlashPlayer.. fine with Explorer, but with Firefox there is no audio.. tried reloads, audio changes.. nothing works.

hello, unfortunately this seems to be a bug in adobes flash plugin 11.3 (IE & chrome get supplied with a different veriant of the plugin by adobe).

Hi Biodoc,
At the simplest, you could set the 7344 to operate in position or
velocity mode, if either of those is what you are trying to do, and
connect the analog output of the 7344 to the Command +/- of the drive
to run it like that, and connect the encoder outputs from the drive to
your controller accordingly. You will want to be careful not to connect
digital outputs from the drive to the controller, because the
controller can only handle 0-5V signals, but the controller will send
out 0-12 or 0-24V signals on those lines. Similarly, a 5V TTL signal
output from the 7344 via digital out to the drive may not register
because the drive expects 12-24V signals.
To help you further, it would help to get a better idea of what are you
trying to accomplish with the drive - control a servo using step and
direction, control using absolute positioning or velocity, or some
other method? Do you have any limit or home switches you are also
trying to connect?

Hi, I have had exactly the same problem as you. EE reset my account, I did several Network resets. No joy. Got a new SIM from an EE shop yesterday, started working about an hour ago, only to stop working 30 mins later. Switiching phone on and off, performing Network resets haven't helped. Phoned EE. They promised it would be sorted by 8AM this morning. Here's hoping..... In the meantime, I have topped up a PAYG SIM which works perfectly. Looking at this forum, Twitter and Facebook, tens of thousands of users appear to be having a similar problem. Seems to affect the whole country and be fairly random in whom it affects (None of the other phones on my account are affected).

No Mic Sound with Pulseaudio, works fine with Alsa.

Have a Acer Aspire One D225E that I've set up with Gnome 3. Everything seems to be working except I'm not getting any sound out of my microphone. I've messed around with the sound settings in the gnome settings app with no success. Using alsamixer, I've made sure the mic channel is unmuted.
I'm able to record sound with Audacity using Alsa and play it back fine. When I switch to pulseaudio however, I get nothing. This wouldn't be a problem, except skype only allows you to use pulseaudio to record if you have that installed.
I've checked the wiki troubleshooting section on Pulseaudio and found the section on Acer Aspires, but solutions in the link led to a dead end. Nothing has worked so far that I've tried.

I have exactly the same problem with my Acer Aspire 3820. It's definitely pulseaudio related, since arecord works.

Ad Banner Problem with Firefox but fine with IE

Hello Ajax,
I have created my second websites name greencityaac.com under my L:\aacix\greencityaac. When it underconstruction I save all the files under location aacix folder and I have no problem to browse greencityaac web on either Firefox or IE.
But after I moved to a new location such as L:\GreenCityAAC, I got the message and cant view flash when I tried to browse greencityaac.com on Firefox but fine on IE.

Is it related to java paths after I moved it to the new location? I already copied fphover, fphoverx, fprotate and fprotatex from aacix to greencityaac but still have problem.

Cannot log onto internet with one user, fine with admin

Over the past few days, my daughter can no longer access the internet with her userid by cable or wirelessly. The userid connects to the network and can print wirelessly or by cable without difficulty.
The userid can, however, connect to skype without issue so some internet access via some port is still possible.
I use SafeEyes for content control. I uninstalled it to see if this was causing the problem (using the correct procedure to uninstall). There was no change. I have in the meantime reinstalled it.
I am not using any form firewall or anti-virus with the mac.
I have checked the IP address and it is 10.0.X.X with a different IP address than other units connected to my airport extreme.
There are no issues connecting to the internet with under the administrator account wirelessly or via cable so the problem seems to be localized to my daughters userid.
Her macbook is on Mac OSX 10.5.8
Would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this?

She was connected to my network.
I just found part of the problem.
Turning off parental controls gives her access to the net again. It was working fine until now and still works on my other daughters machine, together with safe eyes, perfectly.
This is a problem since Safe Eyes does not have sufficient time limit control over the mac itself.
At a minimum, however, I still have control over internet access and usage until I find a solution to why parental controls no longer allow internet access for the one user (with or without safe eyes).
Any ideas on how to get parental controls to work properly again. The only settings in place were the time limits.

External Monitor Stopped Working with OSX but fine with XP

I have a viewsonic Monitor that im connecting to mbp via hdmi-dvi.
It has been working fine for the last 9-10months but has all of a sudden just stopped being detected.
If i Boot up in windows i have no problems as the monitor is detected fine, but with OSX 10.5.8 all i get is the Grey/blue screen change on the mbp when its connected to mbp or when monitor powered on or off.
There is no change to external monitor though.
I have tryed resetting the PRAM
when i go into sys pref/display, it does not detect a second monitor
I have been looking around for a few hrs now with no luck, any help would be great

Have tryed having monitor unpluged for a whole day and that didnt work, cant see any reset button on monitor.
tryed resent PRAM and PMU, tryed booting in safe mode, tryed booting from OSX disc
but didnt quite understand :

-i can still use it fine via bootcamp, i just have to go into video settings and tell it to use dual monitors, is there anything like that on osx ? only thing i can find is the display button in sys pref and that only gives me the option to detect displays which it dont do very well.

Constant restarting after sync with my itunes, fine with others.......

Hi there, my ipod worked fine until about 2 weeks ago. After a synchronisation with itunes it refused to start properly by itself and got stuck into a cycle of restarting over and over until its battery died.
I have checked forums and have tried rebooting, restoring etc (via disk mode etc), and although the behaviour with itunes connected via USB seems fine, once the ipod is disconnected it goes back to its restarting cycle.
Another interesting point is that when synced with another computer, it works. These other computers have had very little content (up to 10 albums for example), whereas my itunes contains close to the ipod's capacity (70gb / 80gb).
Any thoughts anyone?? I have thought of trying to do some sort of reformatting independant of itunes, but until this point have not worked out how. I am using itunes with windows XP.

while it is trying to get mail, hold the home button for a few seconds until it goes back to the home page. if this doesn't work you may need to do a reset or delete the email accounts in question in settings and re-enter them.

Slow wireless with Powerbook, but fine with iBook?!

I'm currently using a campus wireless net and my Powerbook G4 is really, really, slow but my newer iBook G4 is much faster. When plugged in with an ethernet cable, however, both are equally fast. Does anyone have any idea why this could be so, and how I could go about fixing it? I unfortunately have no details on the wireless net.

that the lower the reception the slower the speed.

software, steps down the connection speed based on

Desktop system crashing with "Projects."

Upgraded to OS X (10.10.3), installed new "Photos" and all is well until I try to use "Projects." Consistently getting system crash reports. Puts me back at my desktop. Ideas?? (did not sign up for iCloud Library Photo support)

Anyone can confirm that Lion runs as smooth as Snow Leopard with 2GB RAM?

I want to install Lion on my 1st gen Air, with 2GB RAM. With Snow Leo, sometimes i have to quit Safari because of the RAM is running low.
So i don't want to upgrade if Lion eats more RAM than Snow Leo.
Can anyone confirm that is it worth to install Lion on a laptop with 2GB RAM?

I have a late 2007 2.0GHz Macbook with 4GB of RAM. Snow Leopard ran beautifully on it ( I am a web developer and video editor ).
I clean installed Lion last week and it is very sluggish. It'll often hang and 'spinning beach ball' when doing the simplest tasks such as trying to scroll through a web page, switch applications, open a print dialogue box, etc.
The new UI, animations, and some of the new features of Lion are nice, but I'm considering switching back to Snow Leopard. As a power user on an "older" machine, Lion just doesn't cut it. Depending on what you use your laptop, you might have a fantastic experience with Lion. It certainly takes more video memory, so it's likely newer machines won't struggle with it at all. my concern is that the simple elements of the OS have problems running on my machine, meaning one of two things: 1) Lion is built to run well on newer machines with newer hardware or 2) Lion is built poorly. It seems more likely the former is true. in either case, if you have a "base" machine like Macbook or Mac Mini 2008 or older i'd say stick with SL. otherwise upgrade to your heart's content.

IPod Touch 4G works fine with Bose SoundDock

I just want to report that I bought the Bose SoundDock portable system yesterday, and it works fine with the iPod Touch 4G. Despite what I had read on these pages and elsewhere, there is absolutely no problem docking the Touch, and the system works great. What fun to have this as a battery-powered go-anywhere system!

I used to have a problem getting both of them working but then i realized it was a problem with my iPod itself which got resolved and now they seem to work great after all!
