System creates group for every share point

Every time I create a new share point on my OS X Server 10.5, a group is created by the system on the fly along with it.
For example, I created a folder nameded Research Office and shared in Server Admin. Then when I assign the permission for the share point in Server Admin, I see a group called Research Office group with a GID of 124. However, this group does not appear in Workgroup Manager so I can not assign members to it.
Anyone see this before?

These groups are 'local' (Not LDAP) I still have difficulty wrapping my head around some of the rules about the 'how' this works but assigning LDAP users to this group does work!
OK _To see this group(s)_.
1: Open Workgroup Manager.app.
2: Select /Local/Default in your Authentication list (this spot is between the Toolbar and the 4 (or 5) icons for User, Groups, Computer Groups etc.) We are looking for the place that should say something like 'Authenticated as XXXXX to local directory /Local/Default')
3: Select the Groups icon (3 Shadows standing together)
4: Select Menu View, Show System Users and Groups
5: Now you will be able to select these groups.
_To add LDAP users and groups to this 'local' group._
1: Highlight the group in question
2: Select the Members tab in the right pane
3:Click the plus
4: After the tray slides out, at the top of the tray, you will see a disclosure arrow and Local Directory /Local/Default. Click on it and select /LDAP/127.0.0.1
Now you can select your LDAP users to assign rights.

you create Pricing procedure, and then you create Vendor schema group; and purchasing schea group.
for your scenario you will create N number of vendor schema groups.
follow this menu path:
spro --> materials management --> purchasing --> conditions --> define price determination process --> Define schema determination --> define caluculation schema for standard purchase orders -->
in that screen:
you maintain entries in the combination of
purchasing org schema group -- vendor schema group -- pricing procedure.
for your scenario, you maintain N number of vendor schema groups and assign it to procing procedure.

there is a workaround you can try, create audience and add DL to them and deal with the audience or convert DL to groups

Is it possible to have a new file/folder for every 1000 data points ?
How do you check number of points written to a file?

Need A LOT more context here. How are you logging the data? Where is the data coming from? What format are you saving the data?

Different passwords for different share points on 1 server?

On a lion server I have two share points.
A 'general' is accessible for all users, a 'confidential' is for a select group of users.
The permissions are set and the select group have their server access password in their key chain.
The server password is stored in a separate key chain ie. not in the login key chain.
The select users connect to the server and allways mount the 'general' share point.
The 'confidential' share point is mounted only when needed and unmounted afterward.
Problem is when the users walk away from their computer and forget to lock the computer or to completely disconnect from the server, which is generally very inconvenient because of open documents.
"Unmounting" the confidential share in my setup is not really putting it away securely because at that moment, anyone can sit down at that computer and mount 'confidential' because the login credentials were already given when mounting 'general'.
Is there any way, lest having Parallels running another Lion server that shares the 'confidential' mount point, to force users to enter a password before 'confidential' can be mounted WHILE 'general' IS ALREADY MOUNTED?
In other words, can credential exchange be tied to share point mounting time rather than to server connection time and thus be different for different shares and allow for share-specific unmounting, effectively locking it away?

Has nobody done this before?

Cannot find _www user/group to make owner/group for iCal share

I know _www is a predefined system group normally hidden. However, I am trying to follow a procedure posted at www.adozendozen.com/?p=43 which requires that I make _www the owner/group for the folder share I will be using for calendars.
_www does not appear in the Users and Groups pane available in Server Admin so how does one do this?
(If you want to have a long day, trying searching _www on any search site or any site for that matter.)

Brett Gross who made the original post for the iCal setup was kind enough to inform me that there is a setting in Server Admin under Preferences for "Show system accounts in users and groups browser.
Thanks for responding but I am more comfortable with GUI where possible.

Load a swatch group for every file, everytime.

How do I have a custom swatch group be available in the swatch palette for every file I open (new files, old files... everything)? This includes opening Windows Meta Files and Enhanced Meta Files.

Sorry about that. Let me explain my exact situation. I have a huge load of windows metafiles and enhanced metafiles that I need to convert some colors on and save as Illustrator files. I have created a swatch group with the colors I need and placed it in the Swatches panel so that it appears when I use the recolor feature in CS4. The issue is that the swatch group disappears from the Swatches panel when I open the next file. I want to know how I can add a swatch group to the Swatches panel so that every file that is opened has this swatch group present.

I am new to this board and I've had the iphone only for a few days, but today, on thanksgiving, I wanted to wish about 50 of my closest friends and family a very happy thanksgiving I noticed the same thing and came here to find a resolution.
Next upgrade this is something Apple really needs to take care of.
Preferably _before Christmas_, otherwise I'm going to have to write those 50 friends, plus texts for random people I just want to keep in touch with.
Don't even want to think about it.
Of course I still have the option to use my good old Sony Ericsson W800 I gave my mother, but what does this tell us about Apple????

Why can't I select my created group for submitting a batch in Compressor 4.1?

Hi all,
My company recently updated our computers to take advantage of Compressor's distributed processing since we're using both a 3.06 ghz c2d imac and a pretty new core i5 imac on the same network. I'm interested in getting Compressor's group processing going to take advantage of the significantly faster i5 after cutting is done on the c2d. I have followed the instructions in the manual to set up a group, and have so far had no problem having the two computers see each other over the network and add each other to processing groups (the new name for clusters, I guess). The issue comes when I try to select the group from the lower-left drop-down box when submitting the batch. Although my created group shows up in the drop-down, it is greyed out and cannot be selected. Is there something I'm doing wrong that's making this not selectable? The primary way that we're moving files into compressor is from the "send to compressor..." option in FCPX, if this is relevant. I would really like to get this running ASAP so any help is appreciated.

TO_CHAR (ctl_ins_dttm, 'WMONYYYY') will result in 59 or 60 groups per year, since all months (except February in common years) have (incomplete) 5th weeks.
If you want 52 equal-sized groups, then TO_CHAR (ctl_ins_dttm, 'WWYYYY') will get you closer. (You'll still have an incomplete week 53.)
To pivot those rows into one column, you can do something like:
SELECT MAX (CASE WHEN TO_CHAR (ctl_ins_dttm, 'WW') = '01' THEN contrib_amt END)   AS week_01
,       MAX (CASE WHEN TO_CHAR (ctl_ins_dttm, 'WW') = '02' THEN contrib_amt END)   AS week_02

Is it possible to save System preference settings for every user that logins to a Mac OS X?

I work at a school and we have iMacs running Mavericks 10.9 in our environment. We have them binded to our Windows domain so that way students can use their own login to access the Macs. I have a number of System preference settings that I would like to take a effect, but I only see that these settings take effect for every user. So even if I login as the Main administrator account and set settings in System Preferences, such as not allowing the Wifi symbol to show, the next user that logins will still see the wifi symbol because the setting isn't taking effect for their System preferences. Does anyone know a way to get System Preference settings to take affect for every user that logins? Maybe a script?

Modifying the user template is not supported. You can Google for people who have done it in the past. I would recommend going to official route, if possible. Here are a couple of training documents. I'm sure there is more available though more official channels.

Can you not create groups for Firefox 13 Speed Dial?

In Firefox 13 they have now included a speed dial page which was once an add-on. My questions about this are, is there any way to create groups like the speed dial add-on. If so can I change each individual groups layout to a 3x3 or a 5x5. This is more aesthetically pleasing, seeing as I may have gaming sites in one group, wallpaper sites in another, social networking in another, each group having a different number of dials.

You can only have one about:newtab page and you can't add more than the nine slots.<br />
You can customize the about:newtab page by dragging links like bookmark or history items in one of the nine slots on that page or click the close X of an item to remove that item.
The Speed Dial extension is still available, so you can use that extension if you need extra features that the about:newtab page doesn't have.

Create link for Journal / share Journal

I can't create links for new (or old) Journals with iPad 3rd gen.
iPhoto works and works, but The options are still grey.
Internet by wifi ok.
There is also enough space in the cloud.
I dont wanna reinstall iPhoto, because i don't want to Loose my Old journals.
