System doesn't boot - help!!!

Hi,
I've go an MSI K7N2 Delta L and an AMD athlon xp 2500+ chip.
Everything was working fine untill the other day. I switched my system on and it wouldn't post.
The Bracket shows LED'S 1+2 red and LED'S 3+4 Green. The manual say's it's a problem with the processor.
I've tried re-seating the chip twice but no joy. I've also tried booting with everything except CPU and RAM removed incase it was a problem with something else but the problem remains.
Before I go and buy another chip is this almost certainly the cpu that's died? or could there be any other cause?

i have the same problem, so i would like to know if it was the bios or the psu you altered to get ur comp up and running , ive tried to clear cmos and reset at j10 but no fun, and people keep saying it might be an psu problem, but i meausered my psu today ( im an elektro technician in denmark ) it gives me the voltage i need, and ive diabled all others than the hdd and graphics card so there should be no prob unless of course it`s unstable, when i boot up it gives me nothing no signal to monitor NOTHING, so pls tell em more exact what u did to get urs running again ????
im going crazy so pls help me not loose control

Since a week or so, my system doesn't boot, unless I press <enter> and the power button a few times during the process.
Once it has booted, everything works fine, but it is highly annoying nevertheless.
it seems to have something to do with loading my hardware.

Then I have to press enter and the powerbutton (asus M6) a few times, and then, a line at a time a couple of messages appear, then after "udev events" has passed, boot proceeds normally.

I tried removing scsi and sata, since my root is on an ide disk. But the problem persists.
also recreating an image using mkinitcpio or reinstalling the kernel26beyond package using pacman doesn't help.
Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong and how this problem might be resolved.
It seems like a trivial issue since the systems basically works fine otherwise. However, I can't figure it out by myself, I have tried for a week.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure if this will help you, but I suddenly was having a lot of trouble booting. My system would just freeze with a blinking cursor. I thought it had something to do with my floppy drive because if I changed the boot priority in my bios to boot from the hard disk 1st, the system would boot but would hang for a very long time in areas, and as long as 5 minutes loading uevents. I suspected this was a udev problem.
I issued a few commands to reset udev, thinking maybe recent updates didn't take effect, which did the trick...

# udevcontrol reload_rules
After that, everything is back to normal. I'm still learning about udev and I'm still fuzzy about a lot of the techy stuff.

PowerBook G3 doesn't boot - Help!!

Hi Everyone,
I'm a new apple user since i got this old computer - Apple Powerbook3.
This is the background so far:
I bought the powercord since it came without it. And i connected to the laptop. Then the computer doesn't boot it makes a sound at the beginning and then stays on the gray screen. So i found that when click "z" it goes to a "Open Firmware"; and says: "to continue booting, type "mac-boot" and press return" and to shut down, type: "shut-down".
I did type "mac-boot" and it goes to the gray screen and nothing happend.
This is all what i know, Can somebody let me know what can i do next or what to do?

You have the last and best of the black G3 powerbooks, and is popularly known by its code name "Pismo".
When a Mac cannot find a bootable system, you will see the gray screen with an alternating folder and '?'; it will automatically shut down after a few minutes if nothing changes. Resetting the PRAM will sometimes cure this issue and also the incorrect booting into Open Firmware.
I have read where a user bought a Pismo with the same symptoms and it did not have a hard drive installed! Two simple ways to check for the presence of an HD: (1) When you press the power button, put your ear next to the 'delete' key and listen for it to spin up and the chatter of the read/write head; (2) lift off the keyboard.

Do not disconnect the keyboard ribbon cable; just carefully tilt the keyboard face down on the palm rest. The HD is in the upper-right corner.
At this point, you need a compatible MacOS System CD or DVD. The Pismo supports MacOS 9.0.4 > 10.4.11. I recommend installing Tiger/10.4, the last version of OSX that this machine supports.

These Tiger DVDs can be quite expensive, but you can still find new DVDs at the original price of $129 or less. There is a lot for sale on eBay but most "Tiger" DVDs are machine-specific (came with new computers) and can problematic; you ideally want a retail copy.
Do you have access to another Mac that is fairly new, e.g. year 2001 or newer? there is a way to connect your Pismo to another Mac that may be helpful.

[SOLVED] GRUB2 does not process hooks: System doesn't boot

My initial system was an SSD where /dev/sda1 was my boot partition and /dev/sda2 was an (encrypted) LVM containing home, root, var and swap. Since all partitions were ext3, I decided to do a clean format to ext4 and copy my data back on the partitions. First I archived everything but home with the arch live CD onto a server with:
rsync -a /mnt/* root@server:/path/to/backupdir/
Everything went fine, but after copying back, the system would not boot (it was GRUB Legacy). Since it was not in the MBR but on sda1, I figured I could upgrade to GRUB2 now. So I followed the described procedure (from a live CD) and installed GRUB2 (this time into the MBR of sda. I then regenerated the image via mkinitcpio -p linux and generated a configuration file.
When I try to start the system, GRUB2 gets loaded, but after the two messages for loading the ramdisk it remains silent for some time (no output at all) until it finally complains it cannot find my root. But I did not see any output of any hook being processed (including encrypt) so of course it cannot find my root, since it is still encrypted.
I reformatted my boot partition again and reinstalled and regenerated everything again (I copied the directory contents from my backup but moved the old grub folder). Still the same issue. I know I could probably just reinstall everything and restore the settings, but I'd really prefer to restore my system, since this should be a lot faster.

Thank you for your reply. I looked further into the grub.cfg and removed the quiet part. Apparently the problem is that it runs all hooks but does not prompt me for a passphrase when running the encrypt hook. Why does this occur?
Edit: I solved this: apparently I forgot to specify a cryptdevice. Since the article about dm-crypt does not talk about GRUB2, I missed that. I will rework that section to specify GRUB2 and GRUB-Legacy

System doesn't boot after time machine restore to 10.6.8

I had a mbp with 10.6.8
did time machine backup
installed yosemite
saw the app I need for work not work, new I have to go back to that backup
restart->cmd-r->restore from time machine
after this my computer doesn't boot from main disk (that says 10.6.8 now), and cmd-r doesn't work anymore on startup. option gives only the not working main drive, even with time machine plugged in.
what can I do to get my computer to start in any way?

Can you use the original install disk/or SL retail disk to start up the MBP and install Snow Leopard again?

System doesn't boot anymore

I have MSI K8T Neo-FIS2R BIOS 1.20 and AMD Athlon 64 3000+. PSU is Enermax EG465P-VE, +5V: 44A, +12V: 20A, +3.3V: 38A, -5V: 2A, -12V: 1A, +5VSB: 2.2A.
After I changed the memory from TwinMOS Twister PC3200 to Twinmos PC3200 with Winbond CH5 and changed memory speed to DDR333 the system was working just fine for a couple of days.
But this morning when I woke up and tried to power it up it wouldn't boot. When I power it on all 4 D-bracket lights first turn green and they stay that way but nothing happens. The front panel LEDs for power and HDD act like the computer woul just restart itself every few seconds. The fans turn without interuption abd all the 4 D-bracket lights also never turn off. Video never comes up to see what is going on.

Damn, I forgot to take a note about the memory. I'll call a friend later and ask him about it. Although I think it is not ram as the computer doesn't even beep when I remove all ram.
I also have some more info on the computer failing. Father just came home and he said that earlier in the morning he turned on the computer and then started to search and download stuff from emule and then all of a sudden computer froze. Mouse didn't move and he decided to restart it (using the restart button). On boot he said that computer started to count ram and during that it froze again. He then turned the computer off by holding the power-on button and when he tried to turn on up again there was no video and the situation is the same as now.

Black screen, system doesn't boot

I'm a first time user of a Forum.
I am attempting to boot up a newly built system: MSI 845e Max series MS_6566E mobo, P4 2.53 533fsb, PC2700 256mb DDR Ram, WD 100gb ata100 HDD, Radeon 9000Pro vid., 350w ps. All these are new including cables. CD-ROM,CD/RW,Floppy are used.
I receive a black screen during boot up, all LEDs on the front of the case are lit even the CD drives which contain no disks. The HDD starts briefly and quits. I also installed the D-Bracket with the 2 USB connects and dianostic LEDs, the top 2 flash red & green, the bottom 2 are a steady red. I've read a few threads and left the machine on for approx. 5 minutes to no avail. Any suggestions? ?(

After upgrade System fail to boot

Hi,
few days ago I did the system upgrade and after reboot i get several errors and the system doesn't boot, the first one in the list is:
FATAL could not load "/lib/modules/3.0-ARCH/modules.dep" no such file or directory
I think the problem is that in my /lib/modules/ dir there is no /3.0-ARCH dir but there is the 3.1.4.1-ARCH and the 3.1 extramodules.
why that? Is this problem coming from the upgrade?
also the network is not recognized
and the RAID disks are not mounted
the only thing I found on internet is this article:

I found something maybe useful...
in the dmesg I found that the boot disk is loaded as sdc but, I'm sure it was sda before the upgrade.
in the menu.lst there is

- kernel /vmlinuz-linuz root=/dev/sda3 ro
- initrd /initramfs-linux.img
do you think that changing something in this I can have back my boot partition?

Can´t enter bios setup/system does not boot

I got a problem with my new KT6 Delta MS-6590 board.
Sometimes after a prog is crashed and its better to restart windows, my System doesn´t boot anymore. It hangs after searching RAID-Disks. The Broadcom Dialog does not appear and the System stands. When I try to reset and would like to get into the bios setup I can´t enter it. The Delete Key do not work. After clearing cmos and going on with default values the systems works correctly until the next crash.
The bracket says "Boot attempt"
Whats the problem please help ?(

K9N Platinum - Doesn't boot with PWR2 connected

Hi,
I've just built a new PC with a K9N Platinum Motherboard (7250 Ver 1.0)
I immediately discovered a problem:
-If I connect to the power supply the PWR2 Molex (the additional power connector on the motherboard, to provide additional power to the video card) the system doesn't boot. Computer's LEDs get on for half a second, then it shuts down.
-If I deconnect the PWR2 connector, computer boots fine.
Bios already flashed to 1.51... no results.
It sounds weird to me. I have an Enermax Noisetaker II 485W PSU, the CPU is an Athlon X2 65W...
Have I got a damaged mainboard?

sound like somethink is shorted. try take board of case and retry. it maybe dumb question, but are you connect 4pin cable in a right direction?(i know its can be plugged in one way only, but if you use little more force can be done...)

i read a (How to flash the BIOS.doc) file and executing a instructions and i am fail.
when i read a (How to flash the BIOS.doc) file i found a Write:
If your system doesn't boot after you flashed, please refer to the BIOS recovery method as described.
i changed a Mother Board clear CMOS jumpers for clearing ,
and not success and the problem is until stay.
i want a solution please.

Does your computer do or show any error mesages on the screen when rebooted. You did do this in DOS didn't you?

845PE MAX2 = No boot : HELP!

Just got my 845PEMax2 with a 2.53Ghz P4...
I replaced my 'old' motherboard and the system doesn't boot... it powers
up but nothing appends after that.
I check the status leds... when powered off led one is green, when I
power up led one turn red for a very short time and then all led are
off...
All my other peripherals are working ok, I put my old motherboard back and
everything is working.
Here are the peripherals :
- Creative lab GeForce 4 TI 4600
- Creative lab Audigy
- 3com lan
- Adaptec 2940
- 1 DVD
- 1 CDRW
- 2 maxtor 40GB ATA 133
- 2* 512MB DDR333 Samsung

My 'old' motherboard is an ASUS A7V333 with athlon 2000+
Any suggestion? CPU Dead? Motherboard dead? something to check?

I also encountered this problem, however, I managed to solve it. I am using MSI 845PE mobo. Recently, I bought a Kingston 512MB DDR333 RAM to upgrade my existing 256MB same type of RAM.
After pluging in the new RAM to 2nd slot. The system booted a while and shut off by itself in 2 seconds. I got 3 red LED and 1 Green LED. Straight away I know that it's the memory detection problem. I spent almost 1 hours to mix and match also exchange the 2 RAM between the 2 slots. I started to guess this new RAM was defected or something.
After that, I pulled out all the RAMs and put back my 256MB RAM as before. The system still booted a while and shut off again. Then I put a pressure to the RAM onto the motherboard and the system booted normally.
So I tried to do the same thing to the new RAM and put more pressure onto the motherboard until it booted normally. After that, I don't dare to touch the RAMs again. .....I took almost 2 hours to do it...that's tough man.

PC doesn't boot when adding PXI card

Got a problem today. I have a PXI1042Q chassis running to a PC
The chassis had a slot free and I added another PXI5922 and the PC stall at the bios splash screen
More into details:
The PC is a DELL Optiplex GX620 running XP (current update) with BIOS Rev. A07
LabVIEW 2011 full Dev as august 2011 distribution
PXI chassis 1042Q filled with:
1: 8360 (1.0.2.0)
2: 6652
3: 5124
4: 5900
5: 5922
6: (5922)
7: 5422
8: 6251
Slot6 free, no problem
Add another 5922 in slot 6 , system doesn't boot and stall at the BIOS start splash screen
Free slot6: no problem
Pull out slot5 5922, enter slot6 5922: no problem (system found new card,installs driver..., selftest OK)
Reinstall slot5 5922: no Bootup
Pull out Slot6 5922: no problem
Before I start shuffling the cards (well some of them ) any ideas someone (at NI) ?
Or might there a DMA/PCIchannel/Interupt limit?
(I just want to avoid wild card swapping ... )

swapped 5900 with 5124: not booting
seems that I have no chance to run three scope cards in this setup

[SOLVED] System hangs on boot, reinstalling Arch doesn't help

After a recent upgrade (including the kernel), my system hangs on boot. I have an Asus K40IN laptop, about 2 years old. I've been running Arch for the life of the computer and never had any (serious) problems.
I booted into a live Arch environment, tried rebuilding the mkinitcpio image, didn't work. Tried downgrading the kernel, didn't work.
I then assumed it was just some software issue that I couldn't figure out, so I reinstalled Arch. No change.
Here's what my screen looks like when it hangs:
Any ideas would be very much appreciated. I'm completely stumped here.

I have another arch system, a desktop, that I tend to keep pretty much in sync with my laptop. So I can look in the logs on that system to see what was upgraded. The other notable packages in that upgrade were probably udev, initscripts, and mkinitcpio. I will try downgrading those.

I'm using the 2010.05 arch release, which has kernel 2.6.33. I see two cores in the live env, as I should, and there's nothing to suggest any problems in the logs.
