"system error type 102"?

OK, I recently had to remove the drive in my PowerMac G3 that had OS X Panther on it and now am using my drive with OS 9.2.2. But when it starts up, it says it cant because of the a type 102 error, and it tells me to restart using no extensions using the shift key. It starts up fine when I do, but how do I fix it from there? I'm planning on reinstalling Panther today so help would be appreciated.

Despite Tom's otherwise excellent advice, I find holding down the spacebar at startup often makes my Mac unstable. Often, it will not proceed to boot after extensions are re-arranged.
I prefer to boot up (using the shift key the first time to get extensions off) then use Extensions Manager in the running system (not at boot-up) to add a few extensions at a time and re-boot. Using a different name for each incremental set allows you to return to a previously-working set after a bad choice, and continue the investigation.

I have an i book a friend gave me but when i put it on it says error type 102 temporary turn off extensions ,restart and hold down the shift key but is not doing nothing after i hold the key and shut it down .not even the cursor comes up . Is somebody else having the same problem ?

Usually when a vintage computer running Mac OS 9 shows that message
that could mean the version of OS 9.2 was arrived at incorrectly and may
not be for the computer it was installed on. A base level OS 9, updated,
only goes so far; a retail install disc for a later version is required; plus
any original update files. Most older support site links no longer work, so
if you see some information online pointing to Apple Support - Mac OS 9,
they generally put you on the newer home page, nothing about OS9/8/7.
If you have a compatible Mac OS system on DVD or CD for the computer,
depending on what vintage it is, you could attempt to use the Disk Tools
on there to check the hard disk drive, repair it, and perhaps erase & install
    a new system.
You don't really say much about the computer, the situation involves details
and most of them are lacking where they are necessary to attempt to help.
The details vary according to the exact build model series iBook G3/G4
you have. Some last model ones do not boot into OS9 at all, but can use
OS9 as Classic in an OS X computer, no later than Tiger 10.4.11.
If your computer originally ran OS 8.1 through 8.6, a Mac OS 9.0 or later
retail install disc may work. If it supports OS 9.2, if you want to end up at
OS 9.2.1 or OS 9.2.2, get a retail OS 9.2.1 Install CD.
Is this a clamshell colors early G3 iBook, if so which one? If it is a white G3
iBook, (first was 500MHz dual-usb) which one? Then, they went to G4 as a
processor base. These also have different system/hardware requirements.
And they shipped with compatible discs, with part numbers for their series.
The error message implies the incorrect OS version was installed or partial
installation had failed; there may also be other hardware issues involved.
An old obsolete KB article from Apple support suggests the system is too
old for the computer to use; but it may be an improper installation of one
that is not correct for the ROM version of the computer. Perhaps you have
an older computer that was supposed to have a firmware update, too?
    Does the iBook have a tray-load optical drive, or a slot-load? Here's a page
of iBook models, all models from the first to last; to help identify your model.
There also is a page where you can figure exactly what one you have.
•Apple iBook Specs (All iBook Technical Spec) - everymac:
    http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/ibook/index-ibook.html
The issue likely is the lack of matching supported software, to include correct
installer discs and other items; some models required firmware update to run
a later system. Mostly after OS X was introduced a major update was issued.
    Good luck!

  • Error Type 102 in 9.2.2

All of a sudden I'm getting a system bomb with an error type 102. The hard drive boots well into 10.3.3. I've run norton disk doctor and everything checks out. I get a disk icon with a questions mark and then the 9.2 logo comes up with a system bomb and the error type 102 message. The same thing happens when I try to boot without extensions. HELP!!

Dennis, you didn't fully read the DiskWarrior page. Here's what it says:
"DiskWarrior ships on a CD-ROM that will start up in Mac OS X on a Mac with a G3 or higher processor (including a G5) with built-in USB and 128 MB (256 MB recommended) of RAM.
Once started from the DiskWarrior CD, DiskWarrior can be run from the CD to eliminate all damage to any HFS (Mac OS Standard) and HFS Plus (Mac OS Extended) disk directories, including your normal startup disk as well as journaled disks (but not case-sensitive disks). Version 2.1 of DiskWarrior, also included, runs and installs on a 68020 Mac or better when started from Mac OS 7.1 to 9.x. Either version of DiskWarrior repairs any supported disk no matter which version of the Mac OS is installed on the disk being repaired."
So, it will work for you.
Is your OS 9.2.2 on a separate partition? Or on the same volume/partition as OS X with OS 9 running as Classic?
    Cheers, Tom

  • Error Type 102, Unimplemented Trap, Will not initialize...

Among a lot of eight iMacs that were donated to us, there are a pair of them each with their own issues. Both are old CRT iMacs from 2001 with 266MB of RAM.
    (#1)
This iMac initially was advertising an "Unimplemented Trap." I could boot up with the shift key or the C key down, but not otherwise.
By the recommendation of a number of websites, I tried altering the extension expression with the extension manager. Even if I unchecked every box in the extension manager, the reboot would not be successful, requiring either shift or C to be pushed to get past the "OS 9.2" boot screen.
With the computer not responding to the alterations in the extension manager, I put in the OS 9.2.1 disc and ran a complete install. During installation, it warned me that the Remote Access 4.0 required Open Transport 2.0 (or something to this effect).
After the install, I am now getting an "Error Type 102" at start up. I can still restart with the shift or C key, but I remain unable to have any positive effect on booting even after unchecking every conceivable box within the extension manager.
    Any suggestions?
    (#2)
This iMac boots successfully in the sense that it gets beyond the start up screen to the Desktop. Once it gets there, mouse inputs are received with respect to movement, but neither key strokes nor mouse clicks have any effect.
When a CD is not in the drive, it will load a window labeled "Launcher" with nothing inside at the moment the computer stops initializing.
When a CD is in the drive, it will load a window displaying all of the CD's contents at the moment the computer stops initializing.
When I boot with shift, the Extension Manager can not be opened, "because it is locked."
When I try to boot with C, I get an icon of a disk with a flashing question mark at the initial gray screen.
Problem with the CD drive? Any ideas?
Thanks a million. Getting these computers working would be a huge help: we need them to be working when school starts in two weeks and we don't have the money to purchase new computers.

    To Apple Discussions!
    *Unimplemented Trap Error*
    Probable Causes: There are several.
Can involve the Macintosh's ROM (read only memory), where core operating system routines are stored. The error can occur when a request made for a routine that's in ROM could not be completed because the routine was unavailable. Typically, this error is caused by older software that assumes an older version of ROM. The software in question could be an application or a system extension.
Unimplemented Trap error can also occur when the Macintosh model or the system software is too old for your application(s). While most software is written to be backward compatible (i.e., designed to work with older hardware models and system versions), it is not possible to be compatible with every Macintosh and system software version.
    Possible Solutions:
Make sure your software is current and is compatible with your Macintosh model and system software.
Most software applications include system requirements in the documentation or on the outside of the box. If your configuration does not meet the minimum requirements, upgrade your configuration as necessary.
Similarly, if you are using an application that is more than one major version older than the current version (major versions being 2.0, 3.0, 4.0 and minor versions being 2.01, 2.2, 2.2.3, etc.), but your Macintosh model and system software are current, upgrade your application to the current version.

Hopefully, you were also given the System CDs that originally came w/those iMacs. If not, you can get replacement System Install & Restore CDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • System error type 41. Startup problem

I have an iMac (500) G3 (Summer 2000) and it will not complete its startup. It starts, then before it is complete I get a bomb message, 'Sorry, a system error has occurred."Time Synchronizer" Error Type 41. Restart.'
When you restart you get the same message. I have tried restarting from the CD, but the same thing happens. I can't use the computer to try things because it doesn't complete its startup. Any suggestions?

I have been looking around and stumbled across KB 24431, Mac OS: Error Type 41.
Also in KB 30691, Mac OS: When and Why to Perform a Clean Installation it says
Exception: If the computer starts up to a Type 41 error with extensions off, the issue is probably with the Finder alone. Instead of performing a clean installation, drag the Finder file from the System Folder to the Trash, then perform a regular installation over the existing System Folder.

  • SSRS 2005 report: Cannot bulk load Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.)

I built a SSRS 2005 report, which calls a stored proc on SQL Server 2005. The proc contains following code:
    CREATE TABLE #promo (promo VARCHAR(1000))

    WITH

It's ok when I manually execute the proc in SSMS.
When I try to run the report from BIDS I got following error:
*Cannot bulk load because the file "\aseposretail\c$\nz\promo_names.txt" could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.).*
Note: I have gooled a bit and see many questions on this but they are not relevant because I CAN run the code no problem in SSMS. It's the SSRS having the issue. I know little about the security of SSRS.

I'm having the same type of issue.  I can bulk load the same file into the same table on the same server using the same login on one workstation, but not on another.  I get this error:
    Msg 4861, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Cannot bulk load because the file "\\xxx\abc.txt" could not be opened. Operating system error code 5(Access is denied.).
I've checked SQL client versions and they are the same, I've also set the client connection to TCP/IP only in the SQL Server Configuration Manager.  Still this one workstation is getting the error.  Since the same login is being used on both workstations and it works on one  but not the other, the issue is not a permissions issue.  I can also have another user login into the bad workstation and have the bulk load fail, but when they log into their regular workstation it works fine.  Any ideas on what the client configuration issue is?  These are the version numbers for Management Studio:

running the query in RSRT with the same elements works perfectly. The results are displayed.
But tested the MDX query in the transaction MDXTest and entered in the ABAP Debugger, press F8 and the following message appeared:

  • System error message and application crash - ModName: lvrt.dll Offset: 00080a6a

I'm running into an error message which is proving particularly difficult to debug. After my built application has been running for some time, a windows system error will pop up telling me my application has done something bad and needs to be shut down (and sorry for the inconvenience). Clicking through to the "see what the error report contains" page reveals the issue as being in the lvrt.dll module at offset 0080a6a.
This unfortunately doesn't mean much to me.
On some occasions when I click "Don't Send", another error message pops up informing me there is "Not enough memory available to complete this operation".
The program will typically run between 8 and 24 hours before the error occurs, though I've had it run error-free for upwards of 48.
My program is unfortunately fairly large, and depends on communication with proprietary hardware so can't be uploaded in a functional state. In general terms, the body of the program (which is executing when the error occurs) involves RS-485 serial communication and simultaneous display of data to 7 continuously updating strip charts (producer-consumer design), along with envalope detection and RMS calculations in real time, all of which is multiplied by two parallel channels (around 1Mb/s data rate for each). The data is also buffered and stored in binary files for later review. Binary files are closed and a new one is opened for every 10 minutes of data collection (approx 50MB of data).
There are also about 40 user controls associated with each channel, and are polled periodically (a couple times a second). The crashes occur during over night tests, however, when there is no user input. Globals are used for inter-panel communication, but no global is written to in more than one location (most are read in multiple locations).
I know this is a bit of a shot in the dark here, but does the lvrt.dll error at offset 00080a6a mean anything to anyone? Are there any "typical" causes for a failure in lvrt.dll having to do with prolonged high data rate serial communications? For reference, this has occured on multiple machines, but all the machines it has occured on are identical out-of-the-box laptop models running XP 32. I'm going to try to run an overnight test tonight on the development machine and see if I get any different results (Vista 64 vs Windows XP 32).
I can't say my hopes are high with this one, and I'm gonna continue to comb over the code for any possible conflicts, but any insight would be appreciated.

    Claire,
Next time the error message comes up I will take a screenshot of it for you. Unfortunately that may not be until Monday, as tonight is the soonest I'll be able to run another long-term test. The time between failures is the most frustrating part to debug!
There are no errors on compiling or building the application in LabVIEW. My testing has been done mostly on the distribution laptops in application form, with no LabVIEW dev tools installed, Windows XP 32 bit.
The overnight test I attempted on the development machine (within the LabVIEW environment) welcomed me the next morning with a rebooted machine, and so I wasn't able to see an error message (if there was one). Vista 64 on the development machine. Reviewing the data files, I got about 9 hours worth before the crash.
Given the time between failures and the large volume of data I'm passing around, this seems like memory leak type behavior. I'm a bit confused by the fact that it seems to fail in lvrt.dll every time, though. I'm don't know what that indicates, if anything.

  • RT target reboots due to system error

The RT target reboots and displays the following error after the normal setup info:
    Reboot due to system error.
    Redirecting output to log file.
I don't know where this "log file" is saved and I don't know why the rt engine restarts.
I have 3 PCI 6143 boards and I'm reading at 250 ksamples/sec. I'm storing the data to an RT FIFO (waveform dbl array type) and using TCP to send this to the host computer where I want to display in a graph. The vi on the target computer runs fine without any connection to the host computer. When the vi on the host computer starts up, however, problems start to happen.
The host computer gets the data from the target very slowly. It takes about 5 seconds for TCP Read to read the byte size. The byte size is about 600kb. After the byte size is read the rt engine mysteriously restarts and displays the message above. My system works fine if I change all the waveform dbl array types to DBL Array. The reason I want a waveform type is because the host computer is not getting enough data with the DBL Array. For example, instead of getting a steady, straight line in the graph, I get a line jumping from 0 to the value it's supposed to be over and over.
I'm using vis similar to the vis created by the RT Communication wizard for both the target and host communication.

    hi Kristi,
    thanks for responding.
I'm using Labview 7.1 Real-time on a dell gpx 270 on a LAN (gigabit connection) using static IPs. I'm currently doing continuous analog acquisition on multiple channels (24 total). I have a normal priority loop managing the TCP connection, a time-critical loop within that acquiring data. On the host computer (another dell) I have all normal priority vis. I have 1 VI that contains 2 vis in it- a vi that handles the GUI and a vi that handles the TCP.
I gave up on using waveforms so i'm getting the y-component out of the 1D-waveform that i get from the daqmx vi and putting that into a 1D dbl array and storing it in an rt-fifo. By the upload, hopefully, you can see what i'm talking about. Without using waveforms the rt target does not reboot, but i still get jitter. The host computer (with the gui) seems to be reading an empty fifo more times than it has data. When I put a 100ms wait in the TCP loop on the host computer, I get the data slower, but no jitter. I don't know anything about timing so I'm guessing that's my major problem. Am I supposed to put waits inside of various loops?? I varied my time-critical loop wait time from 1ms to 3ms to see if anything would change, but no changes.
On a side note I will be acquiring data from a total of 13 6143 PCI boards from 5 different PCs when this is all done.

  • Variable system Error

    Hi BW Friends.
I have defined a variable as optional with process type User Entey /Default. I assigned this to Characteristics OpCo. When I run the uery I have got a mesaage as system Error. When Pressed Ok, it is working. The details of system error as below.
Could you some one help me please.
    <b>Diagnosis
<u>The Can be changed in query navigation property</u> has been set for variable Z_CP_028, characteristic OpCo. However, the variable is used in the query in such a way, that the system is unable to apply this change-option.
This can, for example, occur under the following conditions:
Characteristic OpCo is filtered by additional restrictions (the restrictions must be joined using an OR-connection)
A second characteristic, which is restricted by a variable, is compounded to charcteristic OpCo.
Variable Z_CP_028 is a hierarchy node variable, but the hierarchy has not been determined uniquely.
A variable can be changed during query navigation only if it is used exclusively in a drilldown-characteristic, and there are no further restrictions to the characteristic other than this variable. There must be no additional characteristics with variables compounded to the characteristic you are working with. For variables for hierarchy nodes, the hierarchy must be determined uniquely and agree with the set display hierarchy.
Also, if the characteristic value is moved, for example (Z_CP_028 - 1), the variable is no longer able to be changed when navigating queries.
    System response
The entry Z_CP_028 Can be changed during query navigation is not applied.
    Procedure
    Check the query definition.
    Procedure for System Administration</b>

    Hi Sudhakar,
For the variable that you have created, uncheck the Can Be Changed with Query Navigation option. Save the query and try to execute it once more.
    Hope this helps...

  • BAPI_GOODSMVT_CREATE ERROR: A System Error Has Occurred While Locking

    Hi All,
I am having a problem with a Z program that I am writing.
Basically, it uses the BAPI mentioned in the title. The program will read excel file that is being uploaded, and then will segregate the line items by 200 lines.
That means, if I were to upload 1000 line items, the BAPI will be called and executed 5 times (1000/200 = 5).
However, when trying to upload 10000 line items, I received this error after around 3000 line items.
"A system error has occurred while locking".
This happens when IMPORT parameter TEST_RUN is set to 'X'.
I found this after some googling: http://sap.ittoolbox.com/groups/technical-functional/sap-basis/lock-entry-system-error-1674434
I am hoping for your expert thoughts on this.
    Thank you.
