System File corrupted

Hi
A small clarification required.
If the system datafile is corrupted, what is the way ahead to bring the DB up and running.
Thanks
Sheen

Using rman, restoring system tablespace on its original location:
[oracle@localhost ~]$ rman target /
RMAN> startup mount;
RMAN> restore tablespace system;
RMAN> recover tablespace system;
RMAN> alter database open;
On different location:
[oracle@localhost ~]$ rman target /
RMAN> startup mount;
RMAN> run {
set newname for datafile 1 to '/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/orcl/non_default_location/system01.dbf';
restore tablespace system;
switch datafile all;
recover tablespace system;
alter database open;
You should have a valid backup...

    with boot -a you can only specify new /etc/system during boot , e.g. /dev/null
    but if you want to recover it , you can do it from live kernel ( if you didn't reboot after /etc/system was corrupted )
    with
    echo ::system|mdb -k
    or from previous crash dump simmilar way
    cd /var/crash/`uname -n`
    cho ::system|mdb unix.[x] vmcore.[y]

  • System file corruption-alternatives to erase&install?

    To make a long story short(er) I restored from (SuperDuper) backup after the HD failed and Apple gave me a new one. Then problems occurred with the system being slow (hesitating a lot) and having trouble connecting via wireless and finally not connecting at all, and then the machine ended up in "limbo" (according to the Mac Genius.) Now I've been told to erase and install, but I'm reluctant... There's a years worth of tweaks, updates, and installs on my MacBook! (After all, that's why I was so fervent about backing up...) And Boot Camp too.*)
    Evidently "some" corrupt system files made their way into my backup before the old drive failed. (There was no warning; one day it was just gone.)
    My question is, is there a way to figure out/diagnose which system files are corrupt and to replace only those? Or, alternatively, is there a way to "erase and install" only the system? Please forgive my "lack of Mac," I come from many years with Windows.
    *)I'm assuming I can use Winclone to restore Windows (if I really have to erase the drive) once I repartition using Boot Camp. Um, all I have to do is remember how big I made that partition...

    I suggest that you start with an Archive and Install (checking the box to preserve settings). The last time I did this was in an upgrade from 10.2 to 10.3 on our little iMac G3, and after it finished, everything was just exactly the same as it had been under 10.2, except for one thing: those little pictures were gone by the users' names on the login screen (it was trivial to reconnect those pictures with the names). So I would try that, and see if your issues are fixed. If they are not, then there is another step you can take, which is to delete your preference files that are associated with the problem (i.e. wireless, airport). and if these things are not effective, then I would proceed with the full erase and install. I haven't done the Archive and Install with Tiger but I don't think it gives you a lot of options about what setting to save ... I think it's either all or none.
    By the way, before doing any of these things, you should make at least one complete backup or clone of your entire disk.
    Also, before doing Archive & Install or Erase & Install, create a new user and login as that user to see if the problem goes away. If it does, then there is not much point in doing a new system installation because the problem would have been pinpointed to your local user files/preferences, not the system-wide software.
    I am not surprised that the Apple Genius suggested Erase/Install versus Archive/Install. The Erase/Install is guaranteed to fix any software issue, so the Genius won't need to deal with you in a follow up anymore. They have people lined up and want to just get you on your way, even though it might cause you a lot of work to recover all your settings and installed software (that's your time, not his). The Archive/Install is also highly likely to fix almost all software problems, but if it's something corrupted in your user settings, then it might not, in which case you'll be back and he'll have to deal with you. So he's suggesting killing a fly on a window with a sledgehammer, when maybe a flyswatter would work just as well (and cause less collateral damage to your house). I understand the motivations of a busy Apple Genius, but from your point of view, it would be better to try the other things before finally going to the erase and install.
    Remember to do that backup before trying any of these things.
    In general Macs do not need to have system software reinstalled. In fact I have never had to do it as a repair/diagnostic step on any of my machines using Mac OS X (except that one Archive and Install I did, but that was on a healthy system to go from 10.2 to 10.3).

  • System file corrupt

    Hi all,
    we are having 3 db in windows box oracle 9i version daily we scheduled a backup its for dev and uat database. but when i checked the same of back it shows that 2 are backed up one is not backed up due to that ora-01115 error.
    then wi checked the in site they said that due to malfunction of harddisk problem.and bad sectors. so in the meantime what i did is back up controlfile and then shutdown the database and did a full consistent copy almost completing stage the system file is not copyed due to that data cyclic redundancy error. i tried twice no use same result.
    is there anyway to recover that system file. or noway?
    if it is not ok then i have to clone the test db and give it to dev.
    is there anyway to bring that system with the help of controlfile...
    pls suggest me..

    If you cannot make a full export without getting an error you can still try to export all the user data and generating all stored code: packages, procedures, functions, sequences, etc ....
    Is the CRC error being reported by the OS or Oracle? Because it is the system tablespace I am not sure if it can be used but have you looked into using the dbms_repair package to find, mark, and skip the corrupt blocks?
    I have fixed corruption in the rdbms base tables before by identifying the corrupted object and then dropping and recreating the object. If this method will work for you will depend on what is corrupt.
    If you have support opening a SR and getting support guidence on how to save your data is probably worthwhile.
    Otherwise you need to restore your last good backup. But I suggest you verify the status of the backup before using it. It may in fact be bad so you might want to try alternate approaches to savalaging the data and rebuilding the database

  • System file corrupted? FCP and quicktime suddenly can't convert AVIs

    Yesterday I could open an 12 minute AVI file in quick time, go to "Save As" and save it as a MOV file, which would take about 45 seconds, as far as i can see it's a rewrap, not a conversion, but tell me if i'm wrong.
    Ive been trying to find the best way to do this on batch, so i've been trying to do do it using Final Cut Pro's batch export tool (ran very slow, crashed a couple of times) and MPEG Streamclip's batch tool (which worked fine, and speedy, but files came out looking interlaced). But finding out how to do this in batches isn't my problem at the moment.
    The problem is that today, all the programs seem to struggle with the conversion. What would have taken 45 seconds in quicktime yesterday seems to take up to an hour today. MPEG streamclip suffers similar slow down issues. Final Cut Pro can't even start converting today.
    I was just wondering what could have changed to make this happen to all 3 programs at once. I'm assuming that it's a codec, or something that they all reference in the conversion process. I dont know what that would be or where it would be, or how to fix it. If any one could shed any light on any part of this I would be eternally grateful.
    The files are dv pal avis, standard definition. Ive tried re-installing Quicktime, I put in the final cut pro disc to see if there was a repair option but there wasnt one. final cut version 6.0.6, quicktime 7.6.4, streamclip 1.9.2

  • T400: System Update = Corrupt windows system files

    I have tried to make a fresh Windows 7 installation, but after installing updates via Lenovo System Update the system gets corrupt.
    I replaced the hard drive on an T400 and loaded a image that I had on to the drive.
    After a installing a few updates and program I noticed strange system beaver. So I did a system file check and it came back that files was corrupt and cold not be repaired.
    So I did a new fresh Windows install. But it to became corrupt after just running Windows Update and Lenovo System Update.
    So I ran some hard drive and memory diagnostic without find and problems.
    Then I did a new Windows 7 install again. After I installed all recommended updates from Windows Update I did a system file check, all OK. The I installed Lenovo System Update and all its recommended updates and did a new system file check, Windows system files corrupt.
    Any one exercising similar problem or have any Ideas what Lenovo update is destroying the system?

    Are you sure you have a sound/healthy installation media?
    I have Win7 Ultimate in three T400, a T400s, (plus three T500, two W500 and two X200s, just to name the Thinkpads of the same generation). Never had a problem with Lenovo System Update.
    But in my case I first install PowerManagement only, then run Windows Update until Windows is fully updated and as a final step I run Lenovo System update. Worked as a charm so far...

  • How to repair corrupt \windows\system32\config\system files?

    T61 will not boot to Win XP - says the \windows\system32\config\system file is missing or corrupt.
    BIOS hardware test of disk drive passes.  When I place a Microsoft Win XP disk  to attempt a repair, the message says there is no disk drive detected. I assume this is due to unique Lenovo HDD drivers that are not on the Microsoft disk.
    Is there a way to repair this file(s) without doing a full HDD reformat?
    THank you.

    You need to include the Intel Matrix Storage manager via Floppy disk while running setup-CD or change in BIOS "Config"-SATA" to compatibility.
    Then you can repair windows but first backup the hard drive onto annother disk f.ex with Acronis True Image Home (Emergency CD).
    Boot from XP Retail-CD
    `select "Install"
    select the drive with the found windows installation and  "Repir"
    Windows Setup removes the system files and replaces them from CD
    after systemreboot you willneed to re-install all patches and updates

  • T40 missing or corrupted \windows\system file after recovery process

    My T40 Thinkpad had a corrupt drive so I secured the recovery disks from IBM to rebuild the hard disk.  The recovery process seemed to work well, but when completed and prompted to remove all disks and reboot, the system booted and failed before Windows XP loaded with an error message that the windows\system file was corrupt or missing.  Any recommendations on how to succesfully recover?  Thanks.

    boot off the WinXP Disc and run a repair.  Did it mention the boot.ini file being corrupt, or something else?

  • ITunes.exe - System error / corrupt file

    I purchased an iPod nano about a month ago. Since then about every week my entire iPod content is erased while i transfer music to iTunes. All of a sudden it disconnects and says "iTunes.exe - System error / Corrupt file". Each time this happens I need to restore my iPod, which does not help either. I have the latest iTunes version and I downloaded the iPod updater, however none of them make a difference in the situation. I would really like to know whether this can be solved or I need to return the device to the store.

  • Firefox 26.0 update corrupts windows system files

    I updated firefox mid-December 2013 on a pc running Windows 7. Everything was fine until I shut down. Windows would not start. Safe mode would not start. We eventually found that there were corrupt system files. We fixed those, uninstalled the firefox update and everything was fine. At that time I was not certain firefox was the source of the problem because I had installed other updates and programs.
    I just updated to firefox 26.0 (no other changes made), shut down, and couldn't launch windows. Uninstalled the update and fixing my sytem again.

    Hello,
    Can you please try doing a complete clean re-installation of Firefox latest version.
    Simply uninstall your Firefox and then perform a Full virus and Malware scan on your system.
    You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

  • Missing/corrupted system file in ..\system32\config and in ..\repair folder

    Hello everyone,
       Could you please help me with this proble ? I have got Windows XP PRO SP3 OEM.
    Today when I started pc i have got error meesage system file in Windows/system32/config missing. When I look into folder system file is here, but maybe he is broken. I said fine no problém I have got Windows/repair. I only need to copy default file to config
    folder.
    But..
    When I wanted to copy system file from Windows/repair folder there is no system file only system.bak. So I copy this file into Windows/system32/config and rename it onto system. I tried reboot PC, I saw starting Windows logo I almost jump into air, but after
    few seconds my smile disappear. I got automatic restart. I tried it again, again and again same. So I tried run pc in safe mode with same result.
    On the internet I read its can be by oem version of system. But where can I get system file now. Its possible to take system file form another pc ? Thank you for your advice.

    Problem solved.
    There is solution which help me, so maybe it can help to others.
    Its better when you can unplug disk from pc and connect it to another via usb or via ata/sata such as another disk in the pc.
    1. At first at computer you need to see invisible files and protected files of operation system.
                          Computer > F10 > Tools > Folder options
    2. Now on the "corrupted disk" in the root you can see folder called "System volume infomation", but I think you dont have permission for it, right ?
                           Right click > Properties > Security > Add your self and add rights
    -now you can open system volume information folder
    3. open _restore{hexa} folder. Now zou can see a lot of folders started RP<number>, try to open the folder with higher nubmer. Next open snapshot folder. Now you can see a lot of files. But we want
    _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SOFTWARE or _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM, choose what you need. Now copy file whant you need for example _REGISTRY_MACHINE_SYSTEM and rename it for SYSTEM.
    4. Open this path Windows\system32\config and rename your corrupted file. For example "system" to system.bad
    5. Last copy your new "system" file from SYSTEM VOLUME FOLDER which you created in step 3 to Windows\system32\config folder.
    6. Plug your hdd back into your pc and start pc and hope all will be fine :) .
    I hope this instruction will help someone, good day and smile :)

  • System File Checker -Cannot fix corrupt files

    How practical do you consider the various measures to replace / resolve corrupt files are?
    My feeling is that the simplest solution is to do a repair install or clean install of the operating system. This would include where appropriate an In place Upgrade, restore to factory settings or to restore a system image.
    What do you think?
    Hope this helps, Gerry

    Hi Gerry,
    System File Checker is a utility in Windows that allows users to scan for corruptions in Windows system files and restore corrupted files. OF course, this may not resolve all problem.
    Repair install, clean install, restore to factory etc have their own function on recovering the operating system. It depends on your exact issue.
