System firmware ISO

Just moved over from the IBM brand, looking for a tool which will create an image with the latest supported firmware bundles for an RD650 server.
Does such a think exist?

Hello,
Thank you for the inquiry. Currently, the ThinkServer brand does not have this capability. However, we do wish support our customers and plan to unify the portfolio in the future for a more consistent experience.

  • Speed of processor is being limited by system firmware after BIOS update

    Hello,
I have updated the BIOS of my G510 to the latest version, which is 3.09. But after this update, I have noticed "The speed of processor is being limited by system firmware" entries at the Windows System event log. They are like that:
"The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 5 seconds since the last report."
I'm getting this message for all the cores, from 0 to 3.
Why is this happening? And what can I do, should I downgrade the BIOS to the previous version?
    Thanks

    Hello pka4916,
You’re having a problem with the speed of your processor.
    Do a hard reset.
    Turn the computer off.
Remove the power cable and the battery.
Hold down the power button for 15 sec while booth power sources are removed.
This should reset the hardware in the computer.
As you turn it back on tap the F10 key. This will load BIOS setup utility.
    Press F9 to load defaults.
Press F10 to save and exit.
When the computer boots back up, check to see if everything is working.
If the problem is still not fixed Try to roll back you BIOS to a version that was working correctly.
Here is a link that will walk you through the steps.
Let me know how everything goes.
    Have a good day.

  • Next System Firmware patch after  v7.2.7.d for SPARC T5120 & T5220?

    Hello
We've patched the firmware before on our T5120's, scheduling an outage only to realize that a yet more recent patch has been released just days after our outage.
Based on previous patch release frequencies I believe the next release would be soon for ...
Hardware PROM: SPARC Enterprise T5120 & T5220 Sun System Firmware
    after Patch Id: 139439-09
    was released Date: Feb/17/2010
    Unbundled Release: 7.2.7.d
    Anyone know when this is?
    Thanks, Roger

    Hello Roger,
there is generally no patch release frequency. Patches fix bugs and/or add support for hardware (sometimes for minor design changes, required because a supplier of a component changed).
In case this particular system has a very high number of firmware patches, I would suggest that you use your service contract, either to review pending bugs or opening a service case.
These forums are only user-to-user, it's very unlikely that you get an offical statement. The Storage Forum is an execption, there volunteer people from the storage division, who sometimes advice about up-coming releases.

I browsed several boards and a huge set of websites but did find anything related.

At the first time yes, because i'm using an extra raid controller. That's because the environment 'boot-device' has to be set to a value different than 'disk'.
At the end of the jumpstart installation i have to type 'init 6' for reboot manually and the environment 'boot-device' has its default value. Thats why the server isn't boot and fall back to net boot.

  • Toshiba Stor.E tv 1TB PA4209E-1HJ0 SYSTEM FIRMWARE UPGRADE?

    Hey
I just purchased a toshiba stor.E tv 1tb multimedia player but it doesn't support mkv video formats & others like rmvb
Is there any system firmware upgrade that i can flash into the bios?
If so pls provide me with the link to it ?
Note : i did not find it on the support page
But i have read that the Stor.E tv 2TB's support the video file formats i'm looking for.
Would it be possible to use the same firmware bios on the 1Tb ?
    thanks & regards

    hey there,
i just purchased the same hdd. my problem is: after some trys to make it compatible to my mac (i created two partitions - one fat32 and the other in mac-format) it didnt work any longer. i mean i dont have access to the data when i connect it to my tv. even after turning it back to the former status (one fat partition) its the same. i can see the screen, when i turn it on, but i dont have a menu to choose any file. setup is working as well...
so obviously its not possible to get any firmware or other support. does anyone have a solution? maybe a soft-/firmware i can use???
    thanks,

  • Find System Firmware Version from the OS rather than ALOM

I want to update a few T2000 Solaris servers to Firmware 6.4.6,
but this question is really about finding the firware version from the OS.
At the ALOM prompt sc>, you can just enter "showhost" and it
provides a line like "Sun System Firmware 7.1.5.b 2008/08/05 16:58"
Is there ANY way to find the firmware version from the operating
system as root without having to go into the ALOM?
    Thanks, Steve K

Yes, 'prtdiag' could help on that. The reason you are not able to see your SysFW version could be a matter of Patchs. See this output below from 'prtdiag':

  • Messages in event log about processor speed limited by system firmware

On my new G50-80 I get the following event log messages: "The speed of processor 0 in group 0 is being limited by system firmware. The processor has been in this reduced performance state for 71 seconds since the last report." and this repeats for all 4 processors, on every startup. What does this mean and how to fix? The BIOS is factory original (version BOCN73WW)I have not tweaked speedstep and so on (yet), the machine is on AC power.and I don't know what's DOS, and is it much worse than DDOS.  Thanks,-- dd

    hi dd,
    Is this item your laptop?
If yes, when the machine is plugged-in and running on High Performance power plan, can you try to open a few graphics intensive applications and observe the CPU frequency if it reaches 2.4Ghz or goes into to 3Ghz (turbo boost).
If you don't have graphics intensive apps, try to:
    1. Download and install Heavyload and run a stress test on the CPU.
    2. Run Coretemp and observe the frequency and the temperature on the cores #0,1,2,3
It'll also help if you can post a screenshot of the results. As for the disk percentage being high, it's likely that there's an app running in the background that's constantly writing to the drive (i.e. Antivirus software running a scan in the background ro a torrent app downloading in the background).

  • Anyone experience this type of total system/firmware failure?

2009 MacBook Pro 5,2 (2.66GHz Core2 Duo), recently upgraded to 8GB RAM, 320GB HDD with an OWC SSD drive replacement for the optical drive.
The system ran great, and was really fast given the recent 8GB upgrade and SSD as the main boot drive. I decided to set a firmware password for added security...worked no problem. The system rebooted fine, and requested the firmware password as expected when attempting to boot to alternate drives.
I then enabled FileVault 2 in Lion (10.7.2), and it worked as expected and seemingly encrypted the drive just fine; however, in Disk Utility the main boot drive was greyed out. Figuring it might just be a temporary issue I decided to reboot. Upon restarting, I get the boot chimes and nothing else...dead!
Now when the power button is pressed, the system's fans and HDD start up as expected and the boot chimes sound, but then it sits there. The screen does not turn on, and the system does not boot. The caps lock light activates, but it does not get past this point. Pressing the power button again results in an immediate shutdown, suggesing the SMC is not activating properly since it usually requires a ~5 second press for a hard shutdown.
I am able to reset the SMC, but doing this does not show any difference in behavior. I am not able to reset the PRAM at all--the system just sits in this dead state and then shuts off immediately when the power is pressed. I suspect the firmware password setting is preventing the PRAM from resetting, so I swap out RAM to clear the password (from 8GB to the old 4GB set), but this has no effect and the system behaves the same...dead.
I've tried booting without RAM and the system issues warning beep sounds as expected, and I've tried disconnecting the battery for a while and unplugging the hard drives, but no change.
My only conclusion is a completely corrupt/fried firmware that if only I could force to reset would work properly, so it seems beyond somehow doing this the only options are to replace the logic board (unless anyone has any other ideas).
Anyone else experience this kind of complete firmware/hardware failure?

In my case, nothing since I had already wiped/reformated the internal SSD of the Lion test installation (and it's recovery partition). I presume you are refering to the Lion Recovery feature in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1533:
    Press Command-R during startup
    Start from Lion Recovery1

  • Making System into .ISO

Here's a question of a different variety.  I spend enough time configuring Arch to my liking where I don't want to do it all again if I mess something up, or if an update breaks something.  I want to put my existing system in an .iso, and use that .iso to put it back when I need.  Is this even possible?  If so, can someone give me some detailed instructions?

I have not installed via Larch but the mechanism is part of the LiveCD/DVD.  I have made several cd and dvd versions and also prepared a flash device which will boot from USB-HDD.
    Larch also provides for copy-to-ram.
The CD/DVD will load the system you provide and can be larger than CD 700MB limits when using DVD media.  It cannot be upgraded except during a given boot-up; however, if one uses USB flash, the upgrades can be retained therein and be reloaded after the next boot-up.  Also, if one has rewriteable media rom devices for multi-session, this  feature is also provided with the Larch scripts.
I use flash devices to retain upgrade data which I install with pacman.  When items are installed via pacman, they are r/w because the aufs is employed to install them in an overlay.  Thus any package originally loaded as r/o can be upgraded to r/w
One can utilize the flash device to load all upgrades or only those desired for the activity to be pursued.  Then they can be removed via pacman if desired.  This is desireable when running in copy-to-ram in order to maintain ram use to useable limits...memory management by the user.
This use of USB flash makes the Larch very versatile especially if operating in ram although I understand that Larch does very well when booted from flash (systems with USB-HDD boot) and operated from flash.
Running in flash will end up in a crash when the flash is degenerated enough, it has a lifetime.  I have expectastions that hafnium chips may extend the lifetime by a factor of ten for flash devices.
I have my system with 3GB ram that can run 24/7 in ram...it has one drawback, my mobo doesn't have USB-HDD boot so I have to keep the CDROM available in the machine.  Everything else is USB capable.
I digressed from the question you posed in order to outline the full picture provided by Larch such that you can determine whether it meets your need.
    Best of arch to you!

  • Upgrade system from iso image

Hi there, due the bandwith's situation in my country, download base image (+60) each month is almost imposible. There is any way to upgrade from a cd image? Arch's .iso are copied from other persons via pendrives. Could I roll the base system to "pristine", I mean, make a .tar.xz from the syystem and use that packgages for upgrade my system then?

If you're going to argue with every suggestion made, why bother posting in the first place? English doesn't appear to be your native language, so there seems to be a communication gap here. We're trying to help, but you refuse to listen, keep repeating yourself (without clarifying anything) and expect to be spoon-fed the information you seek.

That's fine, no one is making you use Arch. You have the freedom to choose whatever distribution suits you best. As you seem to have worked out, Arch doesn't seem to be suitable for your situation. This doesn't mean Arch has a problem or is broken, it just means it's not suitable for you. I'm sorry if you feel slighted by this.

  • System firmware

I was not able to find an answer after one day of searching online, hence my posting this question. I have one of the earliest G5, dual 2 GHz, firmware version 5.1.4f0. I remember getting the software update recommendation to update to that firmware version (back in 2003). What I'm wondering is whether I need to update my firmware to 5.1.8f7 even though I never got a prompt to do so. I'm running OS 10.4.8. I definitely have speed (or lack thereof) issues and I also have this weird glitch in printing where when the print monitor appears and I hit return (ie print) nothing happens. I have to first change my presets and then it will print fine. The only printer I can print to immediately is a Xerox machine (I access 4 different printers). I just had an issue where I needed to fix my hard-drive (using DiskWarrior as recommended in this forum) but unfortunately that has not solved this more chronic problem.
    Thanks for any suggestions!

  • Where can i get a FRESH Windows 8 iso? (LEGALLY)

    Hey guys,
I wanted to know where you can get a Windows 8 iso, NOT a upgrade iso.
I already did some googleing, and http://www.redmondpie.com/download-windows-8-iso-x86-x64-file-directly-from-micr osoft/ this website seemed to tell me you can get it by downloading a file from Microsoft and just entering a product Key.
However, for this i think you actually need a Windows 7 , because it is an UPGRADE iso, not a fresh system-builder iso.
So i was wondering, where can you get a fresh Windows 8 iso to install on my MacBook, which doesn't have Windows 7?
Or can you use the iso described in remondpie and use it to install Windows 8?
    Thanks!
PS According to many people, the new MAcBook Air (2013) which i have does not work really well when you install windows with a CD. That's why i'm trying to use a USB and iso to download it.

iso is just a 100% bit by bit image of an optical disc
there are millions of free programs which will make an iso file out of an optical disc in a few minuts

  • How do you determine if you need a firmware upd

I'm an iMac newbie, so if this is a stupid question please forgive me.
I need to find out which version of firmware I currently have and what version is current.
I have found the Apple web site where they can be downloaded, but these sites do not tell you how to determine if you need it or not. At least I couldn't find it if they did.
How do I make these determinations?
iMac Intel 20"   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   The absolute best computer I have ever owned!

    Jon,
System firmware updates have been very rare, and have never been distributed by Apple through Software Update. The reason is that they have always required special handling, not simply a matter of download and restart.
Firmware updates are not software, but are irreversible changes made to the logic board or some other operating unit. They must be downloaded to the intended computer first, then all applications, etc. disconnected, then the installation proceeds according to specific instructions for each particular firmware update.
The SMC (System Management Controller) Firmware Update for Intel Macs is different from a system firmware update and is capable of being handled the same as any typical software update, therefore it was included within Software Update and most of us downloaded and installed it without giving it any special attention. I'm guessing that the newest iMacs that are sold with OS X version 10.4.7 installed already have the updated SMC firmware which is an older update than 10.4.7, but my assumption may be mistaken.
It very well may be that your PowerMac never have had a firmware update issued for it, as the majority of PowerMacs have never had one issued, as can be seen in this listing:

  • Firmware - Commonly Asked Questions

When Spiderman 3 was released on Blu-ray disc, a fairly large stir was created when it was discovered that the movie would not work correctly in all Blu-ray players.  In most cases, players simply weren’t able to access many of the additional features that were included on the disc, although it was not unheard of them to be entirely unreadable as well.  Eventually, it was announced that most affected Blu-ray players could remedy this problem by downloading and installing a firmware update.
    What exactly is firmware?
Firmware is a type of program embedded into an electronic device that tells that device how to function.  As the name suggests, it is something of a cross between actual hardware components and pure software programs.  Like software, it is processed by a microchip.  Like hardware however, it is closely linked to physical parts and means little – if anything – outside of that context.
So, why are firmware updates necessary?
Just like a computer’s operating system, firmware is occasionally updated by manufacturers to resolve technical issues that may occur and to allow compatibility with newer technology.   For Blu-ray players, once such advancement came with the introduction of BD+ copy protection.  Without firmware updates, players released prior to the advent of BD+ probably would be unable to play or even recognize discs with this feature.
What does this all mean for me?
Before assuming that any new Blu-ray disc you purchase is defective, make sure that you have the latest firmware update to your Blu-ray player.  Many manufacturers will make regular announcements on their support websites whenever new firmware updates become available, as well as provide step-by-step instructions on how to perform them.  You may even be able to find additional information by visiting the homepage of the studio that released the movie (such as Disney, Sony Pictures, MGM, etc).
UPDATE! You can now find additional information on firmware updates through the link I've provided below:

  • Problems updating firmware on X6-00

Since 2010 I am the owner of a Nokia X6-00.
At first I didn’t have any problems with updating the system-software (firmware), but now I have a serious problem. How come?
Recently I had to give my X6-00 a hard reset (could not add a internet access anymore after a hardware repair). The firmware version on my device is now; V30.0.003 from 2010.
And now I cannot update to the latest version. According to your website for this mobile the latest version of the firmware, is version 40.0.002.
    I have tried to update in 2 different ways;
    -1. -
Directly through the device. By phone management -> Application Updates -> search for application updates.
Then I get the message that there are no updates available (and again, in 2011, before my hard reset, I have installed firmware updates severall times). So, this messsage cannot be wright.
    -2. -
    Via Nokia Suite, version 3.7.22.
My Nokia is connected  to my PC via a USB-cable.
Then Nokia Suite indicates that the installed system software on my Nokia X6 version is V30.0.003 (from 10-28-2010).
If I choose to reinstall the system-software, then that process starts up. There are 4 steps within this proces (according to NokiaSuite, eg create backup, etc.).
However, at the final step-4, I get a message an error occured. I have made a screenshot of this, attached to this mail. This message says that my Nokia X-6-00 is nog connected in the right way to the PC.
But there are no problems with installing / updating mobile apps via Nokia Suite, so the connection cannot be the problem..
I would like to update to the latest version of the system firmware. What to do?
    I appreciate your support.

I agree, Nokia clearly say "Latest software release for Nokia X6-00 is 40.2.002"  but they are not making this widely available for some reason.
My X6 is unlocked and not tied to any service provider and whenever I try to update the firmware the phone and associated software Nokia Ovi suite/Nokia PC Suite etc etc say V32 is the latest!
I am tempted to move away from Nokia if this is not resolved soon as I am looking to upgrade and was considering to buy an unlocked Lumia 920 but if Nokia ignore their users with older models then perhaps I should try an IPhone or Samsung next time as I hear their customer service is excellent!
