System fonts aren't displaying properly

For example - when I open my email (using Mail), there is a lot of space between the From, Subject and Date lines. Any suggestions?

Nailed it. Thanks Tom. But now my iTunes certificate looks like this:
My system is inserting the "Lastresort" font. I can see it's a latin block, but I can't enlarge the image enough to discern the codes in the borders. Does this mean a system font has been disabled or deleted some how?
Thanks so much for your help!

  • Why some fonts don't display properly

    I use Windows 7, Pagemake 7 (with update 7.01)
Some fonts don't display properly in pagemaker file. Sometimes they look blank; sometimes display in part and the rest as blank. In fit-in Window view, sometimes a page displays properly, and next page is blank, go back to the previous page, it also turns blank. Some times letters look garbled. Display varies as and when the view size is changed.Example for the fonts - Souvenir LtBt . What could be the problem and what is the solution ?

Pagemaker is old software, it was designed for use when fonts were quite limited. It will only display the first 256 characters in a font.  Modern fonts have moved way beyond this limitation. The solution is to stick with older fonts, or to upgrade to indesign. It does sound like your souvenir font  could be corrupted, running font management software is a good practice no matter what program you use.

  • Fonts don't display properly

Sorry if this has already been answered - I wasn't able to see a previous question like this so...
I am unable to have certain fonts display properly, most troubling is the lack of the Greek alphabet. For instance, changing or typing a letter "b" in Symbol font does nothing. I notice that the font appears to be applied to the text, but it is obviously NOT a "beta". I have also noticed this happens with Wingdings and other fonts like it. Even copy/paste into iPages doesn't work.
Doing a similar thing in software programs outside of iWork is no problem and it does work, so I know I have the fonts (and they're properly installed, etc).
What do I do to get Greek Letters in iPages?

What do I do to get Greek Letters in iPages?
While switching to the old Symbol font may still work for Greek in some apps, modern Unicode apps and OS's do not input different scripts by changing fonts. They change keyboard layouts instead. So you go to system prefs/international/input menu and check the box for Greek, plus the box for Show Input Menu in Finder, select Greek in the "flag" menu at the top right of the Finder, and type.
For individual characters it may be easier to use the Character Palette (Edit > Special Characters) as Yvan indicated.

  • Fonts Will Not Display Properly In Mail

Messages that I am receving in Mail will not display properly. All characters are represented with square with the letter A. I attached a screen shot.
I changed the default fonts to many different options and nothing has worked.
    Any help would be great.

Open up Font Book and validate your fonts.  You may have a corrupt font or corrupt font database.

  • Embedded fonts aren't working properly

I'm trying to create a PDF from MS Word using Acrobat Pro 10.1.4.  I have it set in the Acrobat print driver to not rely on system fonts.  To my knowledge, that's all I need to do to embed any fonts in the document.
On the machine I create it, the PDF shows up fine - but on other machines, most of the fonts do not show up properly.  One of them might show up, the rest of them are either substituted with a normal font, or it's gibberish characters.
Some machines, it comes up without an error - other machines, I get an error for *one* of the fonts saying that it can't find or create it.
What's going wrong, and how do I properly embed all fonts?

If the file looks fine on the machine you create the PDF on then you have these fonts on your system.
So why are you not using the system fonts when you make the PDF?
This is what I would try:
    1. Tell the Printer Driver to Use the fonts on your system.
    2. Edit the job options - Adobe PDF Settings, Default Settings - Edit
Fonts Tab -- Make sure Embed All Fonts is selected,
Remove any fonts from the "Never Embed"
Save this Job Option and use it.

  • Fonts are not displayed properly when Book assembled for PRINT Preview

I am having an issue with fonts not being displayed correctly within Aperture Book design application. I have used a script font (Snell Roundhand) for the cover of my book that has quotations marks around the title. However the quotations marks that are displayed after the book is assembled, go to the default Times Roman not Snell. They do not match the Snell Roundhand font quotations that are supplied with that font. What gives? Also . . . after they the dust cover is displayed the next page is the hard bound foil page which displays Times Roman for the title . . . not the font I have selected (Snell Roundhand). What gives with that? Is there a way to change the font before it goes to the printer. Any work around ideas. I have tried several different fonts to see if anything else comes close. Everything looks like a variation of Times. HELP . . . trying to hit PURCHASE BOOK . . . . hopefully without flaws!!

I kind of remember the foil letters might be fixed - cannot remember but here is a related conversation that might help (or not)

Ps. I have not done this through the Apple book printing service myself - I always order soft cover as give aways and use another service for other printing but live vicariously through others withe the Apple hardcover books.

  • Fonts aren't displaying correctly

Occasionally, I see text rendered in mashed up mathematical fractions instead of the copy that should be there. It's only certain words or sentences rather than the whole page... say in Safari on certain web pages. But today, I was buying an iTunes gift certificate and after signing in, they show you the certificate to approve before actually buying it. The content on the certificate that should have shown my recipient, message and the actual purchasing code was illegible. (See attached screen grabs.)
I've looked in the preferences to see if there was a font setting I could change, but found no way to even identify the font the app is using, much less change it. Another discussion from 2005 mentioned dumping the font cache from the user library and restarting, but there was no file there that matched the name they suggested, so I just tried restarting my machine... but still have the same result from iTunes.
Did a system font get corrupted? Any ideas?
Here is another grab from a web page in Safari... it actually looks a little like Cambodian script!

  • Any website that uses remote fonts doesn't display properly.

This webpage is a great example and yahoo mail is another one. The fonts are pixilated with incorrect spacing. I've tried disabling addons and extensions, I've reinstalled Firefox, I've tried different settings in about:config, I've tried disabling hardware acceleration and nothing works

    Hello,
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • Synced photos aren't displaying properly on iPhone

I, for years, have been successfully syncing photos to my iPhone using iTunes. Just recently, I added photos from an external hard disk to a sub-folder (album folder) of my primary synced "Sync Photos from: " folder. After syncing iPhone, the thumbnails contained much white space, anywhere from 20% to about 98% white space. The only part of the thumbnail that gets drawn are some horizontal lines starting with the top.
For actually opening the photo, many images display more or less than what the thumbnail reveals. I have removed the photos from the phone, deleted the iPod cache folder, unchecked sync photos in iTunes, made new directories with copies of the photos inside, and resynced numerous times to no avail. All of the photos view normally on the Macbook.
    Any ideas?
Using iTunes 10.3.1 on a Macbook Pro 15" on OS X 10.6.8 to sync to an iPhone 3GS running iOS 4.3.3

I had the same problem, when I synched up my new IP4 this morning. The transfer failed 3 times, then worked.
Good news = Now my phone has my photos
Bad News = I have no idea why the synch failed, or why it worked finally
Other Bad News = The photos in all albums are ordered by date, not name. This is an ITunes problem which is addressed in other threads.

  • Gradients aren't displayed properly

For some time, I have been struggling with this issue. Whenever I create a gradient in image editors such as Photoshop Elements or Pixelmator, or in the animation software I use, obvious bands can be seen. (They become more visible when I crank up the brightness or look at my monitor from above.) Worst are the "Background Color to Transparent" gradients: they always show bands, and when I adjust their opacity to anything less than 100%, they even look severely ugly.
When I, with the same software, create gradients on my 6-year-old PC they look fine: smooth and solid, as gradients should.
I have been trying to look around on the Net to see if anyone else has this problem, without any luck so far. I've also tried calibrating my display, which didn't make a difference.
Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out, or at least explain why this is so.

You might have better luck with your problem-solving in one of the graphics oriented Discussions areas.
When you get these gradients, are you working in 16-bit or 8-bit colour? I believe my workflows generally always use 16-bit colour and I usually avoid effects that force conversion to 8-bit colour. My workflow begins with Aperture that supports 16-bit colour and includes Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop Elements.

  • Many Edge Web Fonts not displaying properly, help ?!!!

From this morning, and for the second time in only 10 days, some web fonts in our Edge projects aren't displaying properly anymore !
We're having issues with Maiden Orange, Italianna or even Amatic but when i go on https://edgewebfonts.adobe.com/ at least 75% of the fonts previews are wrong and shows default ones on Safari, Chrome or even Firefox : WTF ?
So it's clearly coming from Adobe's font service, and i hope that they will solve it ASAP cause it's a huge thing for us and our clients !

Okay, so it seems like i can reproduce it on new files. The problem occurs from selecting certain fonts. Bangers is one i was using and seems to have issues after selecting. In the add font box, after selecting it, other fonts no longer become available and fall back to the default ones. So trying this on two different computers with a new file can mean it is either a web font issue, or some odd occurence my internet connection is causing. Any help is appreciated.

  • Fonts not displaying properly in Creative Cloud files

I just noticed that fonts are not displaying properly in my Creative Cloud files.  The strange thing is, they continue to display correctly in files I uploaded prior to release - it's just in files I upload now that the fonts are reverting to some generic display font.
For reference, here is a file uploaded before release:
    https://creative.adobe.com/file/7ba1e1dc-993e-4f85-bf2d-7ec4e099929e
And here is the same file uploaded just now:
    https://creative.adobe.com/file/82f1ed16-8f8c-45f5-9127-791f08ad9ec9
The display problem also applies to downloads of the newer file as a JPG, PNG or PDF, although the fonts are still present in the downloaded original file.  With the older uploaded file, download as PDF is not available (presumably because this was a release feature), but download as JPG and PNG outputs a file with the correct fonts intact.
This is a serious problem, because it makes previews inaccurate as well as making the download feature almost useless.  Was it perhaps an unintended side-effect of turning on download as PDF?

On a related topic, here's another Illustrator file with fonts displaying incorrectly, but this time it also has problems with the download links - the options for PNG, JPG and PDF do not appear at all.
    https://creative.adobe.com/file/2d6d788d-01e4-488d-90b8-46823f2017e2
This is all very strange, because they did appear in a previous version of this very same file:
    https://creative.adobe.com/file/dae50071-9596-44ce-b525-3f52663f8cca
Could it perhaps be related to the strange font behaviour?

  • Fonts not displaying properly (square symbols)

I'm trying to troubleshoot an error in a 3rd party vendor's java applet where fonts are not displaying properly. It seems as though when the arial bold font is used, it does not display from a particular computer. (this is a company terminal server, by the way).
To illustrate what I mean, I've posted links to small images showing a working example from another machine:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/d0hboy/font_problem_working.gif
    .. and a non-working example:
    http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v317/d0hboy/font_problem_error.gif
(apologies, I don't know how to include images in this forum).
Vendor support can only provide support so far as requiring a certain version of a JRE is installed -- after that, it's up to me. I've tried comparing the two JRE/lib/Fonts directories and Windows regional settings but they are the same. I've also tried setting the Sun Java console trace level to DEBUG while Internet Explorer is running the applet.
Is there any where I can look to find out what font is missing, or whether the "JavaFontNotFound" exception is firing? Any help or pointers would be appreciated.

Make sure that you're using the correct font. Arial Bold does not provide full Unicode support. Thsi webpage may assist you:

  • Using Linotype Fonts Gold Makes system fonts showing improperly

    Hi Macomunity,
Sometimes I do graphic design, so I'm in the need of having thousand of fonts installed in my system but, when Linotype Fonts Gold Collection is installed, some of my system fonts are wrongly displayed. For example, the preview pane (where you can preview documents) shows symbols instead redeable fonts, also, some webpages are not properly displayed, the same when previewing PDF's. I found erasing all the Linotype Fonts solves the problem, but I need those fonts because I do graphic design. I can imagine there is some kind of conflict between system fonts and Linotype fonts. I install the new fonts in the USERS folder in order to avoid conflicts, or that's what I think at the least.
I would appreciate your help for this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ø3

Wow mate, your reply seems to be the master key of the problem. I don't tink putting an outgoing link should bother the Macommunity, I mean, the goal is supporting people, not making tribes lol Which in fact, I don't like the Mac Ads because it feels superiority over the others faliure and that's not genuine superiority, nor something beyond materialism. Apple should be even more spiritual and transcend. Also, laughing of others OS faliures is like laughing at people with mental problems. However, I laugh of Windows too. Anyway, quite btw today haha...
Well... Here is a reply of a guy which says: "I run my system with ALL the fonts in the System folder, because I want all
users on this box to be able to use all the fonts. I have nothing in the
User font folders, because I do not want my documents changing appearance
depending on who opens them". This explains quite a bit the problem. And this app solves exactly the problem I'm having: http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/ There is an image file where you can see the problem I'm, having. I also tryed deleting the font cache, but the problem still active. Will see what happens now.
    Very helpful!!!
    Thanks!!!
