System fonts Image graphics / Web Fonts

is it really necessary to transform every system font used in any Adobe Muse project into an image graphic? I also use Adobe Muse to make keynote or powerpoint similar presentations in HTML/CSS. Which has from my point of view many advantages to offer by placing the files on a company's web server. Thus, I don't see a reason why Web Safe Fonts are not transformed into image graphics while other System Fonts will be changed into image graphics.
Adding new Web Fonts directly in Adobe Muse is much easier and less complicated than creating kits on the typekit website and then adding the code snippets to every web page which uses the desired web font. A bit too complicated for my taste.

Hi Aaron,
Thanks for the prompt response. We are wondering if you could try a few other things that will help isolate the issue. Our theory is the issue might be related to OS user permissions.
Run Adobe Muse CC as an Administrator
Locate the "Adobe Muse CC 2014" shortcut icon in Windows Explorer
Right-click the "Adobe Muse CC 2014" icon and then click "Run as administrator"
When the "User Account Control" is displayed, do one of the following:
If you are logged on as a standard user, or if the user account control is configured to always require credentials, enter the appropriate administrative credentials, and then click "OK"
If you are logged on as an administrator and user account control is not configured to always require credentials, click "Yes" to start the application
After Muse finishes launching, create a new site and inspect the font drop-down
Verify "Local Store" folder permissions
Open a Windows Explorer dialog
In the address field enter "%appdata% and open the folder named "com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.3".The folder path should be similar to the following with <username> being the current OS user's nameC:\Users\ <username> \AppData\Roaming\com.adobe.AdobeMuseCC.2014.3
Right-click on the folder "Local Store" and select "Properties"
In the "Local Store Properties" tab, select "Security"
Select the current user name from the "Group or user names" list
Observe the section "Permissions for ...." in the "Local Store Properties" dialog. Does the user have full permissions (full control, modify, read & execute, list folder contents, read, write)?
Do you know if the Windows OS user account you are using is an administrator or standard user on your machine? You can find out by navigating to the following in Windows Explorer and selecting "Manage User Accounts":
Control Panel\User Accounts\User Accounts
Please let me know if you need any clarification on what we are asking for.
Thank you for your time in advance.

Marc

  • Hello. I am trying to self host Italia fonts (Book, Bold and Medium) on Adobe Muse. I purchased web fonts from Linotype that are "obfuscated" - which means the name is hidden. Apparently I also need to install system fonts. Can I install with code in muse

Hello! I am trying to self host Italia fonts in muse. I purchased from Linotype the web fonts. But they sent obfuscated fonts and code. I need to also install as system fonts and those do not work for that. We already have different Italia fonts that we owned prior but they are not obfuscated... Is this a problem? Is there an easier way I can do this? TIA!

    Abhishek,
Thank you for the reply. Wanted to comment on a few things.
I reviewed the other post that you've referenced. Nothing unusual jumped out at me as something that I was not aware of. I'm running an older iMac that is in good working condition. 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24" screen. I know this issue is fleeting, as I stated earlier typically can be corrected with a restart of the CC Desktop application (that I am always running at startup). I have not been able to determine that shutting down Muse corrects the issue. I would, at this time say it doesn't.
I did open InDesign and see if the fonts in question, Open Sans and Open Sans Condensed, were present and usable. They were. The fonts are shown as being synched in my CC Desktop app window (even if they are not "installed" in Muse). That is expected but it may be a bug in how Muse brings in a font from those that are already synched to your CC account. I don't know enough about how that works to comment.
And just to complicate matters, Muse seems to be working again, the fonts that is. I brought them back in and they are showing up in all locations (which there are actually three - see screen shots).
First is primary text menu dropdown (to right of orange "Text").
Second is if you click orange Text link. Another drop down menu appears.
And lastly, the Text Panel to right of screen.
I also wanted to add this extra bit of information, for what it is worth. When the issue arises and you do not get the sub-menu dropdown showing various styles of the font (italics, bold, etc.), one can use click on the missing font if you had used it previously and it is present in the "previously used font" list.
    Cheers!

  • How come my installed system font is not working???

I installed a systemfont. It is working in al the other Adobe programs except in Adobe Muse. What van I do?

I too have had this problem with a customer and reported it today, see the link to the forum below or copy of the post from the forum below. Basically they seem to be back peddling a little on one of the main selling features that they advertise to designers, not the the best response really, it is apparently a bug?

Problem with fonts in Muse on a PC?
    May 16, 2012 4:08 AM
I have created a site in Muse and everything is fine when the file is opened on my mac where it was created. My customer has brought a muse subscription as they wanted to maintain it in house, but they are on a PC. Muse was installed on the PC fine.
I have now given them the Muse file and it opens up ok in the PC Muse version apart from copy in Myriad Pro Bold (I assume as it's not a standard system font, it uses a substitute). The body copy displays ok as it's just Myriad Pro and that seems to be a system font.
So, they have purchased Myriad Pro Bold font and installed the font to their fonts library on the PC (WINDOWS 7), but Muse will still not recognise it when the Muse file opens and it also doesn't appear in the systems fonts list in Muse? Does anyone know how to import a font into Muse on a PC so that they can view the site without it using a substitute font for Myriad Pro Bold?

Does the new font appear in any other program on their computer? The font should appear as "Myriad Pro". Then they would need to select the bold option on Muse's toolbar. Beware that Myriad will be rendered as an image, not live text. This will hurt the web site in search results. Consider using either a Typekit font or one of the 'web safe' fonts for maximum visibility of your client's site. There's no point in making a great site if nobody can find it.

Yes, it appears in Word, which is why we couldn't figure out why it wouldn't at least appear in the system fonts section in muse? This bold version of the font is mainly used for navigation to control the look, so we chose that to use as a graphic, so I understand your point regarding searches, maybe the body copy can be altered to a more web friendly font, but this displays fine and appears in the menu as Myriad Pro, but it doesn't help us with the navigation display that we'd like to keep in bold and control the look of. Even with the font loaded in the library it dosen't appear as a sub weight of Myriad bold, so do you think we done something wrong to get Muse to recognise it is there, sorry I still don't understand why Muse hasnt added it to the system fonts library?

As the font appears correctly in Word, this topic becomes less of a 'general question about using Muse' and more of a bug report. http://forums.adobe.com/community/muse/adobe_muse_bugs

Ok thanks, as I really need to address this issue for my customer, as I recommended that they buy a subscription to Muse to edit their website content in-house and one of the main selling features of Muse for them is that you can use any font and embed it into the website and it obviously isn't quite working on Muse for PC and for which they are now paying monthly. So can I report it somewhere asap, is there an area where you do this or do you log it as a bug now?

  • How do i make system fonts look better?

i am attempting to use univers, which is a system font and so exports as an image. i am using it at a larger size. when i preview in browser, it looks choppy. is there a way to make these system fonts less so, closer to the regular look of web safe fonts? thank you.

The short answer is set an opaque background fill on the text frame (it can be a solid color, gradient or background image).
When the browser or OS is drawing live text, it has the benefit of knowing the exact color of every pixel that will be behind the edges of the text and it uses this knowledge to adjust the colors of the edges of the text to smooth the appearance—a process called anti-aliasing.
When Muse is creating an image for a System Font in a text frame with a no fill (or a semi-transparent fill), Muse can't know with certainty exactly what colors will be behind the text. Therefore Muse uses a "grayscale" version of anti-aliasing. Grayscale anti-aliasing provides a better appearance than the hard stair steps of no anti-aliasing, but the end result is inferior to the color anti-aliasing that's possible when the background pixel colors are known and opaque.

  • Using Linotype Fonts Gold Makes system fonts showing improperly

    Hi Macomunity,
Sometimes I do graphic design, so I'm in the need of having thousand of fonts installed in my system but, when Linotype Fonts Gold Collection is installed, some of my system fonts are wrongly displayed. For example, the preview pane (where you can preview documents) shows symbols instead redeable fonts, also, some webpages are not properly displayed, the same when previewing PDF's. I found erasing all the Linotype Fonts solves the problem, but I need those fonts because I do graphic design. I can imagine there is some kind of conflict between system fonts and Linotype fonts. I install the new fonts in the USERS folder in order to avoid conflicts, or that's what I think at the least.
I would appreciate your help for this.
    Thanks in advance,

Wow mate, your reply seems to be the master key of the problem. I don't tink putting an outgoing link should bother the Macommunity, I mean, the goal is supporting people, not making tribes lol Which in fact, I don't like the Mac Ads because it feels superiority over the others faliure and that's not genuine superiority, nor something beyond materialism. Apple should be even more spiritual and transcend. Also, laughing of others OS faliures is like laughing at people with mental problems. However, I laugh of Windows too. Anyway, quite btw today haha...
Well... Here is a reply of a guy which says: "I run my system with ALL the fonts in the System folder, because I want all
users on this box to be able to use all the fonts. I have nothing in the
User font folders, because I do not want my documents changing appearance
depending on who opens them". This explains quite a bit the problem. And this app solves exactly the problem I'm having: http://homepage.mac.com/mdouma46/fontfinagler/ There is an image file where you can see the problem I'm, having. I also tryed deleting the font cache, but the problem still active. Will see what happens now.
    Very helpful!!!

  • Is there a way to prevent Mail from loading non system fonts?

For over a year, and a system OS upgrade, Mail has been taking 7 - 10 minutes to load all the thousands of fonts I have on my computer for graphic design. This started with Snow Leopard on my 2009 Mac Pro (10 GB RAM, 2 TB HDD). At first I didn't know why the computer was taking such a long time to finish boot up. So I reformatted the drive--zeroing it out. Then I installed Mavericks and reinstalled everything else. Finally I tried logging the system activity during startup and noticed that something to do with fonts took up the biggest chunk of this time. Because Mavericks loads any programs you leave running at shut down, I saw that if Mail had the fonts window open, the list of fonts would slowly grow, filling up with the many font families I use for my work. I called tech support for my font management utility but they say the fonts are not in the system and and shouldn't affect the system during startup. In the end I gave up and just go drink a few coffees after hitting the start button. It's like going back to the early days 25 years ago.
Can I stop Mail from loading any non-system fonts? I never use anything but the default font.

    Hey SchenkerBob,
It is possible to disable non-system fonts temporarily for all applications using the Font Book application. This article explains how to do so -
Mac Basics: Font Book - Apple Support
    In particular -
    Disable and enable specific fonts
In situations where you'd like to prevent a font from being available in applications, but you don't want to completely remove the font from your Mac, you can use Font Book to disable the font.
In Font Book, click "All Fonts" in the Collection column.
Click the name of the font in the Font column.
Choose Disable "Font Name" Family from the Edit menu.
Since it might be problematic to have to disable each font individually, you can create a collection of fonts and disable the collection. See the article for how to create a font collection -
    Organize fonts as collections
When working with fonts, you may discover that you use certain fonts frequently, but rarely use others. To make it easier to find the font you are looking for, you can organize your fonts into collections.
From the Font Book File menu, choose New Collection.
Type in a name for the new collection.
Click "All Fonts" in the Collection column.
Drag the fonts that you want from the Font column onto the name of your new collection in the Collection column.
You can then disable collections of fonts -
You can also disable or enable all fonts in a collection: Click the name of the collection in the Collection column, then choose Disable "Collection Name" or EnableCollection Name" " from the Edit menu.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
    Happy computing,
    Brett L

  • System Fonts not showing in the font list

After I upgraded Adobe CC 2014.3.1.44, CL78964 on my Windows 8 (64-bit) computer, none of the system fonts are listed within Muse.
Understand two things, one. This used to work fine.  I was able to see all of the system fonts, now only the ones on this list show up.  Two, and fonts that I add via the web kit doesn't show up either.
I have uninstalled, then reinstalled.  Nothing.  I have also looked for the elusive fonts.db, which cannot be found on my system.  Ideas?

  • I want to change fonts but get message "no available system font"

I am trying to edit a PDF flyer created by another party.  Using Acrobat Pro on Mac OSX.  I select "edit document text" and then try to delete or change the text and get the message. "all or part of the selection has no available system font You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font"
I don't see any font format bar or other method of changing the font.
Is there a way to work this?

Over at the AUC's "Acrobat Answers" Karl Kremer replied to a similar question.
    In part he wrote:
"I assume you want to edit content in a PDF file, and you cannot do that because you don't have the font installed that is used in that file. That is the way Acrobat works: You need to have the font that is used in your document installed on your local computer in order to make changes to text that uses that font. There is no way around that. You will have to find out what font is used for the text you need to edit, and then acquire that font (and that usually means to purchase that font, unless you are a subscriber to e.g. CC and that font is available via TypeKit).
Another option is to select all the text and change that text to a different but similar font. You again can only use a font that is available on your computer as the target font. But once you've done that, you should be able to edit your document.
You change the font by selecting Tools>Content Editing>Edit Text & Images, then you select the text you want to change, and your target font."
    Be well...

  • Acrobat X Pro does not recognize system font

I scanned a document to pdf, opened it in Acrobat X Pro and then applies OCR to the image by clicking Edit in the OCR dialogue and chose ClearScan. I then went to edit the text, but when I clicked on a selection, a TouchUp dialogue box popped up stating, “All or part of the selection has no available system font. You cannot add or delete text using the currently selected font.”  The font used in the document was Arial 10 pt. Does Acrobat not recognize that font? Is there any way to edit this pdf's text?

I still haven't got a sense of what exactly you are after, since you are not only talking about settings with visible OCRd text. But my results partly support yours, partly not. My tests were with Acrobat X, your mileage may vary.
OCR with searchable image... the image contained standard fonts, which I could freely edit. No problem, except of course that the results didn't change on screen. I could also correct OCR suspects, which is the editing Adobe are expecting you to do.
OCR with cleartext... the image contained generated fonts, which I couldn't change. I don't see this as a security thing, rather that Acrobat has generated synthetic fonts which match the exact appearance of the scan, and has no idea what the original font was. I can't edit these, because I don't have the font. (If it let me edit them I suspect it would fail horribly, because the generated font will only contain the letters it believes to be there, not other ones you might need). I can, however, select the text and change the font, then edit the results. There were no OCR suspects, which I find a little odd for the same original, but the OCR was indeed more accurate.
By the way, I may not have made this comment: editing PDFs is sometimes possible, but it should always be thought of as a desperate last resort. Just be happy the few times you can use it, don't expect much or anything, and you won't be disappointed. If you want to edit scanned text (as opposed to correct OCR) don't scan to PDF.

  • Get system font size (CL_GUI_RESOURCES= GET_FONTSIZE)

I'm using CL_GUI_RESOURCES=>GET_FONTSIZE to retrieve the SAP GUI font, so that I can adjust some web content dynamically.
However, I'm getting some strange results back, and wanted to know how I should interpret the result of this method.
When using SAPGUI for Windows 7.30, with a system defined font size of 9, this method returns:
    90,000
At first I thought maybe I just need to arbitrarily divide by 10,000 to get the font size in points.
However when using SAPGUI for Java on my retina macbook pro, with a system defined font size of 12, this method returns:
    78,545
Can anyone tell me exactly what this method is returning, and how I can convert it to the actual system font size in points?

Yes you can't use CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES from a BSP page.  CL_GUI_FRONTEND_SERVICES using activeX controls running within the SAPGui to perform most of its actions.  Since you have not connection to a SAPGui during a BSP page, you can use this class.
You might want to look at scripting against the Microsoft FileSystem Object.  There is a size property of both the folder and file object.  A search of Microsoft's website will show lots of documentation on this object and code samples in VBScript and JavaScript.  This does opens up all kinds of security concerns from the browser however.

  • FontExplorer X Pro corrupting system fonts (mainly Helvetica)

    Yosemite, Clean Install
I recently installed a trial of FontExplorer X Pro because I thought it was about time I moved up to a professional font management tool.  Shortly after installing it, and importing my fonts, things started to go haywire.  As you can see below, Messages.app, websites (GoDaddy.com pictured) and Mail.app display a strange A-in-a-box character in place of what should be actual, legible copy.  I have been trying to work with FontExplorer's tech support but they have been unhelpful so far, not to mention it takes them days to respond.  I believe I've (so far) narrowed this down to HELVETICA and I'm sure it has something to do with Mac OS X now using Helvetica Neue throughout the System in place of what used to be Lucinda I believe
I'm just at a loss for what to do.  I can't seem to get my system fonts back in order.  I've tried uninstalling the software, and starting over, and nothing has helped.  I can clear the Font Cache, restart, and then everything is fine...but as soon as I open a document with Helvetica Neue in it, everything else goes haywire again.  Deactivating Helvetica Neue is not an option.  I am a graphic designer, I need Helvetica for nearly everything.
I would appreciate any suggestions at all, thank you.
Messages.app: The timestamp is replace with these characters.
Safari/Godaddy.com: All the text in the login area are the same character.
Again, in Mail.app, this contact's signature is completely unreadable.

Anyone? No one from Linotype has been able to answer my questions either.
Like I said, the problem started after I upgraded from 10.6.6 to 10.6.8. The same issue occurs on 2 different computers both running 10.6.8, even though one of them is a fresh install.
I've tried resetting the FontBook by booting into Safe Mode, but even that doesn't fix it. However I'm now able to add metadata and create sets, but only for system fonts (i.e. anything with a lock icon).

  • System font issue

    Hello.
I'm running a Xfce4 DE, and I seem to be having an issue with my system font. It started after installing vlc, and the accompanying ttf-freefont package.
Here is an example of what is happening.
    http://imgur.com/a/4FwKB
The top pic is with the messed up font, and the bottom is what it loked like after a fresh install of Arch with Xfce4.
As you can see several of the letters in the text overlap. The thing is that I never changed the system font, and only the size, after the inital Arch install.

This problem affects all sorts of programs... Terminal, Firefox, wxHexEditor, etc.
In the case of my hex editor, it renders it useless.

Your first image has overlapping fonts because your default fonts has been changed when you installed VLC. You can try removing  the ttf-freefont like here
Your second image looks fine(you will need fonts settings as per the wiki, which is why i linked the page), it doesnt have overlapping fonts. what exactly are you asking here?
