System Halts after DVD-Au
As long as I'm reading these forums, I mise wll post another problem I am having.
When using my SB Audigy 2 ZS to DVD Audio, I use the Creative DVD-Audio Player, which I think is pretty much required. The sound is amazing..etc... However, when I close the dvd-audio player I get a system error (one of those prompts with sending information to microsoft) and then the system halts...screen goes blank and I have to reset the computer.
I havn't seen anything about this in the FAQ. I've re-installed the drivers before for other reasons and nothing seems to fix this.
Any ideas on this, or is it a known bug/hardware conflict with certain computers? I have an AMD Athlon XP, via chipset..on board sound but disabled the driver. No conflicts given from system. I am using the analog 5. outputs. The dvd-rom is a generic brand, but I suspect that should not matter. I do not have issues playing DVD movies and the audio works fine for the audio. It is simply the program...
Thanks fo rany help.

System halt after installation
Hi,
i installed Solaris 8 2/02 on an SunFire120. After the installation with the "installation cd" the system rebooted and started the "Web Start Launcher in Command Line Mode". After that he wants to install "Additional Software". The status bar is up to 100% at the beginning and then it seems, that the system halted. You cannot execute any commands oder start a cd. You are not in de OS (no prompt).
Does anybody have a solution? Two suggestion you might try:
1. Update your video monitor to the latest version.
2. Put a small delay (around 10 to 100 ms) in all your For and While Loops (including sub VIs). To create a delay, use the the 'Wait' sub VI in the Time & Dialog sub palette. This will force LabVIEW to pause momentarily and let Windows do other stuff....

System does not turn off after halt after successful suspend-resume
I have the following problem: when I try to shut down my laptop after it resumed from suspend to ram. It seems to shut down normally until, at the very end, it reaches the system halted part (which you wouldn't even be able to read if the system would actually halt). I'm running an updated system, no testing, on an Dell Latitude E6400. The system shuts down normally if I don't suspend it.
Any ideas? What additional information do you need?karol wrote:

Ok, wasn't sure. Isn't "sudo halt" effectively the same thing? How are they different? -

I have OVS 3.x.x and OVM 3.x.x running on the same physical server. I had some issues trying to configure storage via OVM and I issued a shutdown (I think) from the OVM Web Interface. Now I am unable to keep the server up and running. Everytime I turn on the server, after Oracle VM Manager starts, it shuts down the server automatically within a minute or two after startup.
I am able to login to the server via Putty and stop ovmm service manually. When Oracle VM Manager service is stopped, (SERVICE OVMM STOP) the server does not shutdown automatically. However as soon as I restart the OVMM service, it shuts down the server with message...
Shutdown requested by OVM. The system is going down for system halt NOW!
How do I find out what is causing OVM to issue the shutdown command and edit and fix via command line?Since your server was continually rebooting, do you remember if you issued a shutdown or reboot from OVM web interface? Mine was just shutting down. Have you tried to use the Oracle Virtual Manage Web Interface to either reboot or shutdown the server after your upgrade to 3.2.4? FYI I do not have support. This is my sandbox.

Halts after reboot after days of uptime.
Here are the circumstances that lead to the problem:
1) up-time of days or weeks, working great
2) install some software that requires a reboot
3) cross fingers, reboot
4) after reboot, system halts with no kernel panic message
5) try rebooting again and again until it becomes stable
6) fine for days or weeks until another required reboot
7) repeat
The only thing I can think of that could cause this is heat, but then why can I plow through for days or weeks without experiencing a problem. It's a real mystery, and very annoying. At least I'm lucky enough that eventually it subsides.
Any suggestions?
PowerBook G4 17-inch Mac OS X (10.4.7) 2 Gigs RAM, etc.Hi--
Any suggestions?
When you reboot, try to remember to hold the command and "v" keys down at the same time to boot in verbose mode. You'll get a bunch of white text on a black background that may help diagnose your problem. At the very least, it will tell you what the OS was doing just before it stopped. You might even get an error message that will tell your exactly what your problem is.
Just keep in mind that once you've gotten it to successfully boot in verbose mode, when you reboot or shut down, you will likely see a white text message on black just like at startup just as the machine goes down. That always takes me by surprise until I remember that used verbose mode.

[Solved] System does not power off, hangs at "System Halted"
Not sure if this is systemd or kernel related, and after the recent round of upgrades it happens on one of my computers and not the other.
I'm using systemd and do have systemd-sysvcompat installed, but no daemons are started with initscripts.
When I power off from the KDE desktop using the poweroff icon in the tray, it gets to the point where it says "System Halted" on the console screen
but the computer does not power off. If I power off using the physical power button on the computer, exactly the same thing happens.
However, if I power off using "sudo systemctl start poweroff.target" it works perfectly.
How can I get it to work properly again in KDE or if I hit the power button? Why does it work perfectly on one computer but not the other?
Last edited by Zamboniman (2012-11-10 03:41:24)Okay, this has now been solved. Thanks are due to bgc1954 and Trillby for pointing me in the right direction. Very much appreciated.
My search ability, usually very good, completely failed me on this one. However, a few hints was all I needed.
For the record:
To make the power button poweroff instead of halt: edit /etc/systemd/logind.conf and uncomment HandlePowerKey and make sure its value is set to poweroff.
To make kde poweroff properly, edit /usr/share/config/kdm/kdmrc and look for the [Shutdown] section. Ensure HaltCmd is uncommented and set to /sbin/poweroff.
As to why the behaviour was different on my other computer, for some reason the relevant kdmrc entry on that computer was commented out. Apparently that makes it work correctly. I don't know why they were different, as I don't recall changing either. -

Any suggestions on this?
Thanks,
MaheshHi ,
Rerun the BDLS again as this took very little time.
When you try to run again it popsup message saying it already exists just delete that and again put the Logical system name and run it will run that time.
May be while scheduling the job you gave for spool I am not sure why is it looking for Printer which is locked.
Thanks. -
I desperately need your help. I was working on iMovie last night when the thing froze up on me. I've tried rebooting. I've tried reinstalling the apps. No change. I can play some of the files- although I can't tell which ones will play until they magically appear. I can't get into the project library or the event library. The bar that lets me scroll through the clips is gone. Even when I can get something to play the whole system crashes after a couple of minutes and generates a "problem report" that says "iMovie Quit Unexpectedly". This all started when I was adding cutaways- and one clip just would not load. After I tried several times everything froze up. Have you ever heard of something like this? Maybe I pushed a button or somehow changed a setting? Maybe some of the video is corrupt? What do you recommend?
Thanks for any advice you can offer!I have tried all the above and nothing seems to work. Any other suggestions?
