System Info --- latest

How can I find out when was the last time my computer was turned on? Does Mac OS X keep a secret log of shut off/turn on times?
Also, is there a way to discover which were the latest films (in chronological order) that were played by DVD player?
thanks,

Hi, Elena, WWJD, and Daniel, et.al. —
WWJD, I thought I'd run an experiment to give you a "head-start" on determining where/how the data is stored. You — because I guessed that some/most of what I'd find would be over my head. (And I was right!)
I hadn't played a DVD on my eMac previously. I looked through /Applications/, /Library/Application Support/, ~/Library/Application Support/, and ~/Library/Preferences/, etc. before proceeding — and duplicated then opened and copied contents of the Global Settings.plist file that I found in ~/Library/Application Support/DVD Player/Settings/ before proceeding.
Then I played a DVD briefly, and searched through these folders (and the rest of my HD just to be thorough...) immediately after quitting DVD Player to check for updated files — with folders sorted by "Date(-and-Time) Modified." The only changes I found were that the Global Settings.plist file had been modified; and two new files had been generated: 14e830a545faa6cd.plist and 14e830a545faa6cd.img.plist. Presumably, these are the unique files whose generation you hypothesized. Perhaps the name itself provides useful information(?)
Again, I duplicated then opened a copy of each .plist file using Property List Editor. From their contents — clearly, neither the Global Settings.plist nor the img.plist file are viable candidates to hold the data Elena's seeking.
From there on, my proficiency is too limited to take me very far. For Last Play »» Name (Class: String), the value was 00:00:00. For Last Play »» Data (Class: Data), the value was a long (and eventually truncated) sequence of 8-digit groupings of what appear to be hexadecimal-format data. Scrolling as far as possible to the right, it appeared that Property List Editor truncated the data after the 17th such grouping (leaving 5 digits cut off in the 18th). None of the other data contained ion this file seemed even remotely relevant.
That's as far as my understanding — plus ~creative guessing — can take me. Perhaps you can suggest how to proceed — and to convert data into something useful.
I'll be interested to hear what you think. . .
Thanks!
Dean

  • ERRORS ESS - NWDI Import to production - not updated in J2EE System Info?

    Hi all,
We have a GoLive planned for ESS in five days and are encountering many troubles during deployment of the SAP_ESS component on our Production Environment.
We have modified some components in ESS and have used NWDI CMS to transport them through the landscape (DEV-QAS-PRD). We have successfully imported the latest version of the SAP_ESS component into production, but the System Info of the J2EE Engine still displays the old version for the SAP_ESS component and we are experiencing lots of errors when running ESS on production.
How can NWDI CMS say the import in production is successful, but the System Info of J2EE is not updated?
Please advice! Any help would be highly appreciated and ofcourse rewarded with points.
    Best regards,
    Jan

This is the trace when running the ESS apps in the Portal.

  • My apple tv is registering on my tv - i can see it on my system info screen but the apple tv doesn't show up, as well my imac doesn't seem to let me share - so i don't know whats wrong, why my apple tv isn't working

anybody able to help me with my setup for apple tv.  i've followed the directions in the guide and my tv doesn't seem to register in part.  it's weird because my tv system info identifies the apple tv but the screen never went black and it doesn't show anything, too, my imac doesn't seem to register the apple tv unit either

I would try connecting it to another tv to see if it works there if it does
then likely your tv can't handle the default resolution and you should lower it on the other tv
if not then you should connect it by usb to the computer and use itunes to restore it's firmware

  • Mismatch in amount of free space, between UI and System Info.

I'm running a 2011 15" MBP, with a 2 TB drive in it, and the UI is indicating that I have about 520 some odd GB left. System Info and Drive Genius indicate about 490 some odd.
I don't foresee this being a huge problem any time soon, but it's bugging me.

Click here and see the note at the bottom of the page.

I have an external hard drive from my time capsule that stopped working on me. I am attempting to access the data with a hard drive reader on my MAC. I am able to see the drive in disk utility and under system info USB. But I am unable to access the data and it does not show on the desktop when connected.

Ok if disk utility was able to verify the drive I doubt there is any problem.. are you trying to open a TM backup??
You need to mount the sparsebundle then check the actual info inside the bundle.
Don't use disk warrior.. if the disk has verified then unless you deliberately deleted files there is nothing that is going to do.
Pondini has a lot of stuff about getting access to the sparsebundle.
    http://pondini.org/TM/17.html
But if you have copied info to the TC that is now gone.. and the disk is ok.. I am not sure.. the TC will not have deleted the files itself.

  • Is it possible to change settings in "Help System info"?

Is it possible to change Photoshop settings by clicking on Help and then System info? Since there is the possibility to type and the OK-button, I just started wondering.

All Help > System Info does is to report your system specifications so you can copy and paste them in the forums for troubleshooting purposes.
You can choose what to highlight and copy, but it does not change anything in your system like editing a configuration file would.

  • Issue is with OpenGL. System Info it allows Normal Mode but does not allow Advanced Mode.

Problems with Repousse 3D feature in Photoshop CS5 Extended
I am trying to use the Repousse 3D feature in Photoshop CS5 Extended and have been unable to figure how I can get it to be an option using text. Can you explain how I do this, please?
I have also tried rasterizing the text first and that does not work. I have tried placing the image and them loading the selection and I still do not have the option of Repousse.
I believe the issue is with my OpenGL. In the System Info it allows Normal Mode but does not allow Advanced Mode. I spoke with the "Geek Squad" who advised that this is not an issue with my Mac but has something to do with the software.
Can someone please help me fix this?  Thanks.

If you really want help you may have to provide relevant information about your OS, GPU, its VRAM …

When I try to install Firefox for Android on my Motorola Defy Mini (XT320), Google Play Store tells me that my device is not compatible with Firefox for Android,so I cannot install it; according to Antutu Benchmark system info, the Motorola Defy Mini has an Arm v7 CPU installed, so it should be compatible with Firefox for Android...

Turns out it was a permissions issue, the files created by the certutil in the defaults folder got root only permissions given to them. I opened them up and it's working fine.

  • System info discrepancy with IPhoto

    Hi Terence,
Two quick questions:  I either rebuilt or restored my iphoto library a couple of months ago due to inability to read and received the error:  may be in use by another application.  This occured on a 2006 macbook pro that i upgraded to lion and also iphoto 11/9.3.
I dont remember if I rebuilt or restored (couple months gone by); however, it worked!  So no issue there.  Just wanted to give you a history as I believe it is related to my current inquiry.
Question 1:  Further exploration shows that I have 114Gb when I do "Get Info" on the pictures folder in my home folder.  Omnidisk sweep also says I have 115Gb in pictures. However, when I lookup storage in the system information it says that I only have 70Gb in photos.  Why the discrepancy?  Did I double my library size by doing the above rebuild/restore?  Should I not worry about this as system info only shows 70Gb vs. 114Gb in pictures folder?  I also trashed the ipod photo cache (read this in previous thread from you) and saw this will be no biggie as it will be rebuilt. This got me back 14Gb, but did nothing for the above discrepancy.
Question #2:  since I did the above, i've noticed an enormous increase in HD usage in "other" category, I do not believe this was related to the above; however, since following you and some threads I turned off time machine and therefore solved the local backup hogging up HD problem.   Since doing both things above, got at least 7Gb back-great, but believe I can still get more as I still have 45Gb of "other" in my system info.
Are there still mobile time machine backups looming in the background or do I have some picures from restore/rebuild?  if so what is best way to delete this extra data w/out harming my photos?
Thanks so much for your time
    waveone

With respect, neither of these questions are about iPhoto. They're about the Finder, and what it reports
However, when I lookup storage in the system information it says that I only have 70Gb in photos.
Where exactly are you looking that up?

  • Serial Number in System Info is Not Long Enough

I have deactivated CS5 from Computer A, noting the System Info before deactivating, which included a Serial Number.
When trying to re-install CS5 on Computer B, the Serial Number is not long enough.
This CS5 is a student edition.

did you get the serial number from Help>System Info, where it says "Serial Number"?  because, if so, that's not the serial number.  In fact, it's not even close.  my actual serial number started with 1 while the "serial number" in the System Info started with 9.
when you deactivated from the old computer, did you check the box to erase the serial number from the computer upon activation?  If not (i.e., the serial number is supposedly still on the old computer), i've heard that if you start a reinstall of CS5 on the old computer, it will fill in the serial number at that screen.  I don't know this for sure because the OS on my old computer literally crashed in an irreparable way immediately after I deactivated CS5.
If it isn't a student edition (you must not have the box - the box would clearly say so), then the only way to get the serial number is to know the email address that it may have originally been installed under.  Even that may not work,  when I spoke to Adobe support (after waiting 3 hours on my digital phone), I gave then every email address that I could imagine having used and did not find the record of my initial installation.
    Again, good luck

  • Lion disables system info and software update in about this mac

hey guys I have problem with lion when I reboot lion,
it disables system info and software update in "about this mac"
actually it says "this button is disabled because there is no system profiler application" or  "this button is disabled because there is no software update application"
and also everytime when I reboot my computer it always changes default applicatons. for example
it changes from VLC player to quicktime,  from Archive utility to textEdit and so on.
each time i got to reinstall "Afloat application" if i want to use it.
for making them ok I just need to open software updater from system pref. and the button becomes visible again.
it is same with the system info. I gotto search system profiler via spotlight search and I run, button becomes visible again.
for the archieve utility i got to go to coreservices and open Archieve utility then automatically it becomes default app for .zip files again.

    http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/689/screenshot20111225at659.png/

Did you just install Lion? If so, you might need to try to reinstall as something got messed up.
Alfoat uses SIMBL which will break at just about every update. The reason you may have to keep installing Afloat is because the Resume feature of Lion is not compatible with SIMBL. See here: http://roaringapps.com/app:383
SIMBL is a low-level system hack and may be causing your problems.

  • How to Run the NEW "System Info Command" in Tiger ?????

I am new to Applescript and was wondering if someone could help me on how to run the new "System Info Command"?
    Thanks!!!

The "system info" command that red_menace uses above is the new system info command that's mentioned on the web page you referenced. However, red's example only displays the "long user name" and the "AppleScript version" in the dialog.
The entire system info record actually contains all of these items, each of which you can access just like red_menace shows you in his example:
    AppleScript version
    AppleScript Studio version
    system version
    short user name
    long user name
    user ID
    user locale
    home directory
    boot volume
    computer name
    host name
    IPv4 address
    primary Ethernet address
    CPU type
    CPU speed
    physical memory
    Steve
PS - if you switch Script Editor over so the bottom pane displays the "Event Log" you'll see the entire system info record displayed in the log when you run red_menace's script.
