System is slow and unable to recover

i am using dv6 core i5/6gb/640gb/win7
previously i got error 3F1, with this error i was able to use the system but the systems response is very slow... slower than p4. then i tried to recover my system using recovery disks but the same error shows everytime i tries to hit F11. then i changed the HDD and tried recovery it copies all the 5 recovery disks and later it shows the error code: 0xe0ef0003. i have tried another new HDD also for that also it shows the same.
even i tried installing other win7 software then i got another new error (0xc00000e9, info: an unexpected I/O error has occured) during booting the cd.
according to my experience in computers i think there might be a fault in the laptop itself i guess some bios problem or motherboard problem etc
if any one can help me pls help

To rule out a faulty CD/DVD drive try creating a Windows 7 usb flash drive installer:

I was running Lightroom 3.6 with the OS Windows XP (Sp3). The whole system crashed, I am unable to recover the serial number. I then upgraded my OS to Windows 7 (x64) and down loaded Lightroom 4.4, I wanted to buy a licence so I then upgraded to Lightroom 5, now when I try to register I am asked for the original licence/serial number. Where do I go from here??????

If you upgraded from 3.6 to 5 (you didn't indicate buying 4.4) then you will need the serial number from 3.6 in order to be able to use 5.  If you did not keep a record of it there is a chance it might be available thru your Adobe account online, but if not, there is likely not much you can do except to return the upgrade and purchase a full version.  Try contacting support using chat and explain your situation to see if they can help.

If you did purchase 4.4 then that should be sufficient to use to activate 5.
I can never be sure what goes on with Lightroom, and the Adobe site (even when it works properly) makes finding information about products difficult these days so I am at a loss to confirm anything I say.

  • Email system desperately slow and erratic

Since downloading Mavericks, the Email system on my computer has been so slow that I have resorted to using the Gmail webpage instead.  This is disappointing.
I would like to delete all messages from before a certain date in order to lighten its load.  But I am unable to highlight the ones to be deleted as I could with the old system.  How do I do this now?

How long did it take?  Mine MAIL is a mess and all my trashed emails keep coming back into my inbox. and it takes forever to open mail ..or anything else for that matter.

  • Recently installed Mavericks on 09 MacbookPro. System running slow, and applications crashing often (office/safari) Have run Etrecheck. Not very technical so any pointers on what to do next much appreciated!!! Thanks in Advance.

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off merely by the seeming complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can read it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

When you have kernel panics, the pertinent information is in the panic report.
These instructions must be carried out as an administrator. If you have only one user account, you are the administrator.
Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ System Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of reports. A panic report has a name that begins with "Kernel" and ends in ".panic". Select the most recent one. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a panic, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.

  • Why is my system running slow and or locking up?

I have an imac all in one desktop, w/version 10.8.2 software updated. I am having issues now while on the internet, the web browser locks up or sits there and spins. It is now locking up my yahoo messenger and other apps I may have open. It has been cleaned w/clean my mac and tune up my mac. Cleaned it all and made it have even more room. I use google chrome as my default. I have had to try safari a few times because this chrome one doesn't support a lot of sites. It is also updated and the safari will cause it to lock up real fast. You can hear it like making noise inside the computer, like its spinning its wheels but not going anywhere. Can someone please help me out here on what to do?

It keeps freezing and not being able to load. But the Internet is fine. I can use the wifi on my phone very quickly.

Do you have Little Snitch installed? How about anti virus software?
And try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security.
Since your iPhone can access your Wi-Fi network, on your Mac open Airport Utility located in /Applications/Utilities
Select your Wi-Fi on the left then click Manual Setup.
Select AirPort from the menu then select the Wireless tab.
Make sure you have the correct password entered there.
If you can't remember the password, open Keychain Access /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Type   base station   in the search field top right corner of the window.
Right or control click the base station keychain.
    Select the Attributes tab.
    Select: Show password

  • Unexpected shutdowns and unable to recover BIOS

I recently put together a build with the following parts:
    i7 5820k @4.5Ghz 1.3v
    MSI x99s SLI plus motherboard
    Noctua NH-D15 cooler
    Corsair AX760i PSU
    4 x 8 Crucial Ballistix RAM
Let's start with my first problem. Upon pressing the power button to wake my computer from sleep, my computer suddenly shutdown with a very audible click from the power supply. After some restarts later a message pops up on the screen saying something about overclock failure. The sudden shutdown upon waking is happening quite often. However, I stress tested all my components using AIDA64 for more than 8 hours with low temperature and no errors. Hybrid sleep is disabled and the power button is set to sleep.
My second problem is that I cannot recover the first BIOS that I messed up during overclocking. I put 4GHz @ 1.2v on the ring/cache and the computer gets stuck on "A2" during boot. Attempted to recover the BIOS following the manual but it does not seem to boot from the USB that I prepared. I used rufus to create a MS-DOS USB and added the MSI BIOS files in it. The BIOS detected the USB but then switches to Windows. I tried FAT32 and FAT, two different USBs, MS-DOS and freeDOS, but no matter what, the computer does not boot from the USB. Legacy support is on but when I enter the boot menu, the USB I want to boot from is under UEFI even though its DOS ( i.e.: UEFI: <name of USB>).

remove any overclock, do >>Clear CMOS Guide<< with power cord removed
    then check how its goes

  • Sooooo slow and unable to record!

When I'm in playback or in record, the music being played back is on rhythm, but anything I record comes in late and way after I press it. The vertical line that moves across the screen does not line up with the correct rhythm, and lags behind. It makes it impossible for me to record anything new!
    Can anyone please help me?!

Alright, my assumption is that somehow your project has become corrupted, so we're going to try to copy your work to a new project and hope that that solves it.
Let's call your current broken project project 1 and the new one project 2.
    Open Project 1
Start at track 1 and work through each one, select the track and click the "i"nfo button to open Track Info.
Click "Details" if they are not already displayed
Click "Save Instrument" and for the name use the track number (Track 1, track 2, etc). It doesn't matter which category you place them in, but it would be easiest to put them all in the same one, even if it's wrongly categorized ... you're going to delete these when we're done anyway.
    Press Command-a to 'Select All"
    Press command-c to "copy"
If you need to, write down the type of track each was (Real or Software. It's important to have them in the same order (if they're all one type it's dead easy, of course)
Create a new project (project 2)
Create each track of the same type and order as project 1
After you create each track, open Track info (if it isn't open) and select the preset that you saved for that track (The first track gets assigned preset 'Track 1", etc)
Finally, type "z" to make sure the playhead is back at 0 and (wait for it...)
press command-v to paste in all your regions from project 1
    (breathe)
I think I got this all right (I hope), if I did, hit play and see what happens.
If it works fine, save it. If you have anything you recorded yourself (anything other than a loop), use Save As and "Archive" (<-- Very important!)
Post back please and let me know if this worked.
Sorry it took so long, I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. I don't think I did. Good luck --Hang

  • NI Session Manager gets slower and slower from call to call!

I have the following problem with NI-Session-Manager:
I use Session Manager a lot on my test systems. Now that I have a test system running that makes many Session Manager Calls I noticed that after a while the system gets slower and slower. Ive attached a Sequence File, which demonstrates this problem.
This sequence file is based on the LV Session Manager Example, which ships with TestStand.
Instructions: In the UI-Msg Field of the Sequence Editor you will see how long the actual run took to execute. Every run makes 500 calls to Session Manager. You will notice that every run takes a little bit longer than the previous. After 100 runs the difference is significant.
Although my example uses a COM
port to demonstrate the problem this problem is really related to Session Manager because the same happens if I use an IVI-Instrument (i.e. NI-DMM, NI-Switch, )
    Any help appreciated!

    Herbert -
Thanks for the feedback. I will look into item (1).
The design of the session manager was to solve the problem of only having to share an instrument within a multithread application. If the session already exists, than you get the same session and thus the same handle, and the instrument is only initialize once and closed after the session no longer exists.
In the case of a C++ based program you would have to add the session as a member variable that has a specific lifetime. When the object is release, so will the session.
In the case of an application like TestStand, you just attach the session to the execution. Once the execution goes away, the session may go away if no other execution is using it.
    In the case of L
abVIEW being called from TestStand, you are using VIs as subroutines, so either the application (TestStand) must manage the lifetime of the session, or the VI subroutine must deligate the lifetime control to a "global" VI. The item you attach to the global could be the refnum itself or the SMgr session. One way of doing this would be to create a VI that serves the refnum to you but internally manages the lifetime of the ActiveX references to the Session Manager sessions. This would be a simple vector of names and their sessions. When called the VI would lookup and return a refnum from an existing session or create a new session and return a refnum for it.

  • General Slowness and Wierd CPU Usage

Writing on behalf of my uncle. He has a dual quad-core 2.8GHz Mac Pro with 2GBs of RAM (I verified this). And yet his system is slow and very, very crash-prone. Daily tasks such as emailing, using iWork, and Firefox or the cats pressing keys on his keyboard freeze his system.
I called him up and had him look at Activity Monitor. Even with "All Processes" selected, the top users of his CPU come in at 2%. Meanwhile, at the bottom, the value of "% User" is fluctuating from 30 to 60. (It's not RAM usage; he had ~1.5 gigs free).
Any ideas why this is happening or what can be done to speed up his system? Thanks.

the value of "% User" is fluctuating from 30 to 60.
That is actually pretty high and would say that you are hitting 3-5 cores at 100% and that there should have been a process (or group of processes at the top, viewing by cpu usage) eating up A LOT of cycles.
I think somewhere along the line, either the original OS build itself was bad, which happens, or bad hard drive, or bad RAM even. Or installed something wacky.
The OPs title and symptoms sure sound like MA gone wild, and sadly, the old "reinstall to cure" in such a case - people think it isn't needed or that is "... so Windows-like" and this time, take notes, exactly what steps they took and what they did that triggered the problem, maybe next time have "Missing Manual" in front and take notes and be more careful.
But Migration Assistant wasn't involved, and there was no G4/G5 involved. But I would think someone writing a program would recognize safe vs harmful and avoid killing a system the way it can, and which I've walked people through, often grudgingly and dragging to have to "do it all over again" and a fresh install of everything (clone your system before you make changes folks!).
For each burn project you use to need 24-40GB of free unfragmented space for best results. I guess that could double, and then you are talking very low disk space. But that was not their problem (low space).
People thing leaving a system on overnight to run scripts. Okay, don't do it for three months and see what happens or not. Test the theory.
My personal worst example of system meltdown (I saw a meltdown in 10.5.1 era too caused by pre-mature syncservices gone wild and the system refusing to respond, and did a fresh install finally as I installed 10.5.2, but got by using Disk Warrior which found a number of errors - errors that got there I know not how or why.
Yesterday I was moving drives to a new case, resized some partitions, it looked okay, ran First Aid, started copying files... and the system just froze. This is a $200 FirmTek dual-drive case.
Reboot after hitting power. Zilch. Nada. Had to power off the drives I was working on. Nada. Popped one of my 'spare' boot drives into Mac Pro and booted off that. Checked existing drives. Rebooted with the external drives and those checked out, but reformatted anyway just to be safe.
Disk Utility changed in Leopard. Creating partitions I sometimes have to quit and relaunch Disk Utility. That the resizing/creation of partitions for me still looks like it isn't right. And that a reboot may have been needed.
Disk Utility even said it "lost communication with a drive" and to relaunch Disk Utility. I think I saw that once back in 10.5.0 or 10.5.1 and was why I felt it was looking more like Final Candidate than ready for prime time. But I thought 10.5.4 was prime time.
I've zeroed one drive. Have run Speedtools Integrity and Media test, and has the option to map out bad blocks automatically, but I don't think those will find anything, I just thing OS X has gremlins.
My worst fear was the sound, lack of, when drives go silent when they are always running (and is a RAID which don't spin-down) or mechanical.
Second fear: heat from the external drive case. Summer. Drive reported 49ºC.
Third: the entire system stopped responding. Could not force quit and even Activity Monitor was beachballing. I had just quit OmniWeb and it wouldn't. And in the Finder it was doing a copy of disk images to backup which I do a lot, and later redid 300GB copy without issue.
Fourth: a new ergonomic keyboard caused the system and Finder to freeze and lockup???
Anyway, I really try to figure out why things happen. This is harder than the old mainframe that didn't have this many variables to worry about!!

  • Aperture getting slower and slower

When I first got my Mac, and installed Aperture it was lightening fast. The sliders worked in real time, I never got the spinning wheel, every reason I wanted a Mac in the first place had come true. Fast forward to today - about 6 months into owning the Mac and using Aperture, the software is running slower and slower. Even clicking on an adjustment often takes time for the adjustment to load. Brush HUD's don't show up right away; adjustments don't show in real time - all of this makes tasks with brushes painful if not sometimes impossible. I've read the posts and threads related to slowness - faces is off; I'm not sharing photo's with I-life or I-work; all other apps and software are closed and shut down; my HDD is under 60% utilized; my library resides on my computer. Why is the system getting slower, and what can I do? Obviously, I can add RAM, but my question would be why would it have worked so fast previously and work so slow now with the same RAM? Any suggestions for adjustments, or suggestions. Anybody else experience progressively slower Aperture?

How much RAM do you have?
    In any case:
    Repair your Library.
    Then:
Copy your repaired Aperture Library to an external drive.  Rename the version on your system drive.  Run Aperture from the external drive and confirm that the copy is whole and working.  Delete the re-named version on your system drive.  Empty the system trash.  Just for giggles, using Disk Utility, repair your system drive.  Then copy your Aperture Library back to your system drive.
    How does it run?
(This will repair your Library, possibly clean up your disk, and defragment your Aperture Library (many of which contain hundreds of thousands -- even millions -- of files).)
There is one other thing to do -- PRAM flush? -- I'll see it I can turn it up.

  • MBP 17 unable to awake from sleep status and all system is slow...

Hi everybody, I've bought a new MBP 17 about a month ago, but in the last days it has strange behaviours. The main one is that some times, when i open it to bring it back from sleep, it doesnt't show me the login form. The only thing that i see is the rainbow wheel cursor. I've tried to leave it for a while (5 mins) but nothing, i must force the restart or shutdown.
Another strange behaviour is in some ways related to previous one: when i able to awake MBP from sleep all the system is slowed down, if i try to open any program the icon in the dock bounce for a while without blocking with black triangle.
Someone has the same problems or ideas to resolve em??
Thanks and sorry for my english
    MacBook Pro 17'' Core2Duo   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

had a similar issue about it "not responding properly" and i went back to apple and got a new superdrive put in and have had no problems since.
