System is "stuck"  how do I fix it?

I ejected a CD fromn the macbook, which came out fime, but the display still had the CD icon on the desktop, and the cursor changed into the spinning color wheel. I have tried turning the system off, inserting and ejecting multiple other CD's (including the original one) and still nothing happens. Any suggestions?

You ever have one of those times when you feel you've tried everything, but the simplest solution? How are people like me even allowed to buy computers. Anyways thanks for the tip.
Humbly yours,
mac newbie

I have run Tech Tool Pro Advanced Tests, repaired the permissions, and restarted the computer multiple times but noting has fix the error. What is causing the error and how do I fix it?

Last night I revisited the problem and discovered that I had not emptied the Print Shop Importer from the trash. I emptied the trash, restarted the computer, and the error messages stopped. Also before I restarted the computer I noted that Time Machine had stopped backing up and that Spotlight was indexing the hard drive. I blocked the indexing before I restarted the computer. In any event the original problem seems to be fixed.

    Hi Idahoan52,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  You may need to restart the Apple Mobile Device Service.  This article has instructions for doing this:

If that doesn't resolve the issue, I would recommend trying the steps in this article:

  • HT4085 I want to make auto make the autorotation and have system sound also, how can I fixed it?

I just update ios to 5.1.1.
    Please help

See if this helps you understand it better.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Inadvertent System Scroll Stuck - How to revert?

I believe I inadvertently intiated this condition while using my Magic Mouse  A gestural slipup?? .  I zoomed in somewhat and now the zoom setting seems stuck and nothing I have done will revert to the standard display setting with no zoom
Current conditions - Apple 20" wide display, resolution set to 1680 X 1050 (native) running Lion 10.7.3.   The entire screen (menubar, everything) is zoomed maybe 15-20%.  If I move the mouse pointer to any screen edge, the screen will scroll to show the portion of the screen not visible due to the zoom. Of course, the fonts and graphics seem pretty distorted due to the zoom not being a perfect scale of the resolution setting.
With my trackpad (yeah, I have one of those too) I can use the two finger zoom gesture to zoom in and out.  When I reach the minimum zoom (where you extend beyond the "bounce" and it returns you to what should be the standard zoom, my display continues to be in this perpetual 15%-20% zoomed in state.
I have tried multiple restarts, (with and without restoring windows), safe boots, turning off zoom capabilities in the input devices and restarting, trying all kinds of resolution resets.  Nothing has worked thus far
This seems to be a system software issue.  I suppose eventually I may have to reinstall Lion and hope for a resolution, but I was wondering if any OS X wizards out there might have some ideas as to things a could try
    Thanks
    Dave

This is not my day.  I tried using the trackpad 2-finger pinch to zoom while holding down the control key.  I zoomed both in and out but the screen never reverted to a standard no zoom position.  In fact I ended up making the issue worse.  At one point in my trackpad-control key-zoom attempts the screen stuck in a higher zoom level than before.  I would say it is somewhere over 50% zoomed (150% of normal)  and no luck reverting to it's normal state.  Any other ideas appreciated.  It is pretty near impractical for regular use at the current zoom
    Thanks
    Dave

I have been having probloms with my ipod touch. 1. it says i have 0gbs but i had 1gb a month ago and i have not bought any apps or music since then. 2 I was backing up my ipod and it keeps getting stuck. please help.

-Then you look for it the old fashioned way, that same if you lost your wallet
    - For it to appear wifi has to be on and connected. If the iPod is restored then it will always say offline.
    - Report to police and change the passwords for all account used on the iPod.
    - Apple will do nothing

How do you install Mavericks on a mac with 10.6.8 version?

Just to make absolutely sure, here are the requirements:
To install Mavericks, you need one of these Macs:

MacBook (13-inch Aluminum, Late 2008), (13-inch, Early 2009 or later)
MacBook Pro (13-inch, Mid-2009 or later),

Mac mini (Early 2009 or later)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or later)

    Your Mac also needs:
OS X Mountain Lion, Lion, or Snow Leopard v10.6.8 already installe
2 GB or more of memory

When you try to download Mavericks from the App Store, what happens?

  • Some of the trackpad gestures like App Exposé and switching between fullscreen apps not working, even though I specifically set them on in system preferences. How do I fix this?

They were working up until today and I didn't update anything and my trackpad is still working otherwise.

I've tried looking in the Preferences menu, which had nothing that could help me.
PS In 10.6, there is a Kotoeri preferences box at the bottom of the first tab called "Show Predicted Candidates". Is this checked for you? (I think in 10.4 this is still in Japanese and might be different). In the third tab, there is also a setting related to the number of conversions. And in the last two tabs there are dictionaries that can be either open or closed. I gather you have tried all of these without success?

  • I really messed up Mail, now how do I fix it?

    (Please pardon the long explanation)
    Where I was:
    PowerMac G4, running OSX 10.3.9, Mail 1.3.11
    All working well.
Burned a back-up DVD of my Mail Library and preference files.
    Where I went:
    MacPro G5, running OSX 10.5.8, Mail 3.6
    How I got there:
Started the brand new G5, ran through multiple updates, installed files from DVDs burned off the G4. From the back-up DVD, dragged the contents of the Mail Library folder and dropped them into the G5 folder Mail user's library. When a dialog box appeared, asking if I wanted to replace identically named folders, I clicked 'yes'. Dragged and dropped the preference files in the same manner. Internet access through Airport, and Safari work just fine, happily.
    What happened:
When I first opened Mail, a dialog box said it needed to input files from previous Mail or something, after about two minutes, it opened, showing the mailboxes from the previous Mail in the G4 (Yeah!). Within twenty seconds, an alert requesting the mail server password appeared, and ten seconds later, Mail crashed.
    Where I am now:
When I open Mail now, it opens showing no previous mailbox folders, then quickly the dialog box asking for a password appears, and seconds after, Mail crashes.
    What I think happened:
I most likely messed up by mixing old files into the new system. Looking at the Mail folder now, I have no idea what is corrupted and what is good. There are some duplicates by name. Deleting some of them hasn't helped.
    What I want to do:
Re-install a new Mail system, get it working, than input all my old mail from the G4 in some fashion.
I would like to have all my email from the last five years on the new system.
Questions: How can I fix the mess I have now? How can I get a fresh Mail system, and then transfer the previous emails from the G4?
    Thank you sincerely, Isshi.

    Isshi wrote:
    1) Can I import my previous signatures by dragging and dropping in the Signatures.plist file, or do I have to re-write all the old ones? The file in the new Mail is named SignaturesByAccount.plist so it's named differently.
    2) Can I import the previous address book somehow?
    3) How can I import the filter preferences?
    4) Do I really have to re-construct all the mail mailboxes in the new system (now they are nestled in the 'import' mailbox)?
Despite my earlier suggestion I'm not an expert in mail importing, so others will have to contribute their ideas on some of your questions. Here's what I can tell you regarding your first two questions:
    1) I'd avoid trying to use that Signatures.plist file. I agree that it seems to be organized differently from the earlier version.
    2) Address Book can import an "Address Book Archive". I'd go back to your 10.3.9 system (if you still have it) and see if you can create such a thing.
