System Keychain asks for separate (unknown) keychain password

Okay-- so I'm not alone with this problem-- but here goes, so "listen" close.
In the keychain panel, there's three keychains:
System,
and X509Anchors.
All three unlock when I type in my system password.
Login also shows all password requests when I type in said system password.
X509 has nothing in it, so it doesn't matter.
SYSTEM however keeps asking for keychain password that is not the same as the system password.
Now before you say "try the first aid preferences and then try the first aid panel", I already have. No option in the F.A. preference panel resets, changes, or turns whatever magical password it is into my system password.
No combination of said options does either. I've tried it all.
It also bears mentioning that when you highlight the System keychain, in the Edit menu the option to change the password and the settings is grayed out, untouchable.
So, tell me: is there a default password or is there a way I can reset it without needing to wipe out an entire set of passwords? The odd thing is I used to be able to see said passwords (usually just my wi-fi pw's), but now I get this secondary password that I have no idea what it is. Even if I could (but don't want to since I have a ton of wireless passwords saved on it), I couldn't delete the chain-- the option simply isn't allowed.
Finally, I'd just like to mention that to the best of my knowledge, this computer has had the exact same system password since the very day I turned it on 5 years ago when I got it factory delivered.
Thanks.

Hi,
Now before you say "try the first aid preferences and then try the first aid panel", I already have. No option in the F.A. preference panel resets, changes, or turns whatever magical password it is into my system password.
Does that mean youused Keychain First Aid under the Window menu item?
Does any of this apply...

I was thinking perhaps that if you change your account password using Accounts preferences, it might toggle something, even if you change it to the same one.
It also bears mentioning that when you highlight the System keychain, in the Edit menu the option to change the password and the settings is grayed out, untouchable.
In the Finder do a Get Info on...
/Library/Keychains/System.keychain
Does it report Ownership & Privileges of...
Owner = system = R&W
Group = Admin = RO
Others = RO

  • OS X keeps asking for System keychain password in order to do 802.1X authentication

In order to join a corporate WLAN that uses WPA2 with 802.1X / EAP-TLS, I added the company's root certificate to the System keychain and set the trust level to always trust this certificate. I then added the client certificate that was issued for my computer. I set the trust level to always trust this certificate as well. Finally, I added the WLAN network, choosing Security: WPA2 Enterprise, Mode: EAP-TLS, Identity: the newly added client certificate, and username: the domain name of my computer. This setup works - I can connect to the WLAN network.
My problem is that the system always asks me for the System keychain password before the WLAN connection can be established. This seems to be during the 802.1X authentication phase. What do I need to change so that this is not required? Or how can I at least find out which System keychain item it is that cannot be accessed without the password?
Im using a MacBook Pro with OS X 10.10.1, but I also had the problem back on 10.9.
If I remember correctly it started whenI received a new client certificate in the summer. But I am not able to say what I might have done differently with the old certificate so that the password was not required back then.

i'm having the same problem at home. i had problems with my keychain before, because i deleted the system keychain. i recently learned how to replace it, which worked. however, my computer is not remembering the password to my home wireless connection. even when i put the computer to sleep and wake it, it becomes disconnected and never automatically re-connects. i have to again select my network and then re-enter the password, every time. how do i fix this ?

  • What is the system keychain password?

Every single time I logon to my PB12, an alert pops up asking me for the system keychain password. I have tried the only password on this system but it tells me that is invalid.
I click cancel and everything works fine. It is 'Airport' that is causing it to ask, becuase until I click cancel airport remains inactive.
Why is it asking for the password?
Why won't it accept the only password I have on this system?
Why does it ask, when clicking cancel makes it work fine anyway?
What a pain in the (bottom) this is.

I have a similar problem myself. I can unlock the "System.keychain" keychain, but if I want to move items around, it asks me for the password again.
When I press the unlock button, it asks for the password for my full user name. And that one works, the keychain unlocks. But an unlocked keychain doesn't really let you do much administration on it. You must enter its password for any administration tasks. And that's when I get stuck: the system doesn't accept any password I know of, not even the empty password.
But I can delete items. So I can delete the item, then recreate it in the other keychain.
It seems like the system keychain is like a group, that can contain references to keys so that the whole system can use that key. But is it really like this, or is a copy of the key created, when a key automatically gets into the sytem keychain (like the airport keys)?

  • How do I use my WET54g with a wireless system that asks for username & password

Hotels and other systems let you use theiur wireless for a fee.  You go onto your wireless laptop, and it automatically goes to a page where you pay and sign up (or it asks for a username and password), once that is done, you can use the network.
How do I allow my WET54g to know this password information, and work on the network?
    thanks
    Michael

The WET54g allows you to accept a wireless signal and connect it to a wired hub.  I want to intercept the wireless signal and use it on my hub.
I know I can use one computer if I connect to the signal using my laptop's wireless card, but I want the WET54g to accept the signal.
For example, currently at my office, I use the WET54g to intercept a wireless signal from the front of my building, to the back of my building about 300ft away (this way I didnt have to run wires).  The WET54g then is hooked up to a hub/switch where I have a bunch of other computers/servers.  Everything from the front of my building and back of the building are joined using this WET54g.  The WET54g is set up to find the signal from the front of my building, and therefore it works fine.
I want to use the hotel signal, the same way, except there is no way to enter in the username/password into the WET54g, or maybe there is..  Does this make sense to you?

Here I am using Java Type IV for database
    connection.
So,there was no necessity of creating DNS.How your app communicates with db shouldn't matter for the end user. Still, you may want to use a functional network name also for the thin client driver connection string.
So,is there any other way to solve this problem. What is the problem really? Do you not use dns for network naming? Maybe you have to manage the hosts file on every client then.

  • System is asking for password while executing t.code RSUDO

    Hi
While executing t.code RSUDO ( Execute as user with restricted authorizations) on behalf of other user, system is asking for password.
Can you tell the reason for it?
    System is BW 731.
    Thanks

    Hi
    I had the same problem.
What solved it for me was to add authorizations in PFCG for one of my roles
The autorisation is : "Execution of transaction RSUDO without password"
Heres what I added in PFCG:
    Authorization obj: R_SEC
    RSECADMOBJ:   RSUDO
    RSECADMVAL:   *
    ACTVT:                16
Hope it will solved your problem.

  • How to stop the system to ask for a password

How to make the system from asking for a password for every installation???

You can't do that.  Apple is very careful to make sure that only an authorized person does installations.

  • HT204053 I am having trouble setting up icloud on MAC. In system preference it is listed as mobile me, it asks for member name and password. It also has a learn more button under "try mobileme for free". I am not getting anywhere

I am having trouble setting up icloud on MAC. In system preference it is listed as mobile me, it asks for member name and password. It also has a learn more button under "try mobileme for free". I am not getting anywhere

It's evident that you are using Snow Leopard or earlier (or very early Lion) since you have the now obsolete MobileMe preference pane.
The minimum requirement for iCloud is Lion 10.7.5 (Mountain Lion preferred): the iCloud Preference Pane does not appear on earlier systems - the MobileMe pane appears on Lion and earlier but is non non-functional - you cannot now open or access a MobileMe account.
To make use of iCloud you will have to upgrade your Mac to Lion or Mavericks, provided it meets the requirements.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Mavericks (10.9.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Mavericks are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
It is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications).
You should be aware that PPC programs (such as AppleWorks) will not run on Lion or above; and some other applications may not be compatible - there is a useful compatibility checklist at http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
If you are running Leopard on an Intel Mac you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard to access the Mac App Store - it's available in the online Apple Store. However if you have a PPC Mac you cannot run Snow Leopard and cannot proceed further.

  • TS1544 Changing system keychain password

I've changed my login password in my keychain - to something more secure than the password hurriedly set up at purchase.. I am unable to change the system keychain password to match my new administrator/login keychain password. I have an admin account and my own user account, both with administrator privelages. Any ideas?

    Thanks baltwo
To clarify, I only have one admin account, just changed the login keychain password and account password to be something more secure.
Does this mean I have to delete/remove the admin user account to delete the sytem.keychain? or can I delete the system keychain only without having to rebuild a new account....If the latter, do I just find the MacintoshHD/Library/Keychains/system.keychain and delete? I can't imagine it's that simple.

  • Printer System Reset Asking for Password...

    Evening,
Today I tried a Printing System Reset by doing a option click in the printer queue on the Print and Fax section of the System Preference menu. However for some reason when I hit the reset button, OSX asked for my user account password, is this normal, I am the only user account on my computer.
    Thank You!

    Matt Broughton wrote:
I don't think that it normally does ask for authentication, but I would not consider it wrong.  It could be that padlock at the bottom of the Print & Fax pane showed that it was "locked".  In such a case, the system should definitely ask for an administrator's user name and password.
    Matt,
The printer reset menu does not have the keylock in the locked position when it happened. However, today I reseted the system today and it did not asked for a password today which makes me think that it was a permissions problem, since I did a repair permissions after seeing that. Don't know if the permission repair had to do with this but the problem is fixed.
    Thank You!

  • HELP! my mac has logged me out and now asking for a name and password?

I was logged on shopping on top-shop online and suddenly the mac shut down.
It seems it has reset its self! My icon has disappeared and its now asking  for a name and password.
i have tried my log in but it is not working.
Is there another way to reset the password?
can i reset it to log back in what can i do?
I have rebooted the computer several times but i dont know what to do!

First, make sure caps lock is not on.
Another reason why your password might not be recognized is that the keyboard layout (input source) has been switched without your realizing it. At the login screen, you can cycle through the available layouts by pressing the key combination   command-space or command-option-space. See this support article.
If the user account is associated with an Apple ID, and you know the Apple ID password, then maybe the Apple ID can be used to reset your user account password.
Otherwise*, start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
    Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. In the window that opens, type this:
    res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window opens. Close the Terminal window to get it out of the way.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Follow the prompts to reset the password. It's safest to choose a password that includes only the characters a-z, A-Z, and 0-9.
    Select
     ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.
You should now be able to log in with the new password, but your Keychain will be reset (empty.) If you've forgotten the Keychain password (which is ordinarily the same as your login password), there's no way to recover it.
*Note: If you've activated FileVault, this procedure doesn't apply. Follow instead these instructions.

  • When I try to install flash player on my mac, I get to the panel that asks for my name and password, and it will not take my password.  tried changing to a new password and same result

When I try to install flash player on my Mac, I get to the panel that asks for my name and password, but it will not take my password.  Tried changing the password, but same result.  Suggestions??

This password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software.
If this is your personal machine and you don't need a password to log into the computer when it first starts up, you can probably leave the password blank and click OK to get past this prompt.  If this is your personal machine and your normal password isn't working, check to make sure that CAPS LOCK is off, and type the password carefully.
If this is your work machine and it's asking for an Administrator password, well, you'll need to have a conversation with your friendly IT person.
