System keychain problem (2 system keychains)

This issue is not new but I have seen no resolution.
I have a wifi with a password. I can use the wifi but can't remember the security password that I created for it. I went to Keychain Access to see it, and found the wifi listed in the "System" keychain. There are two "System" keychains, with identical contents, which seems odd. When I open the wifi item in the "System" keychain and click on "show password" it asks me for the "keychain password" which it then does not accept. The "keychain password" (or what I set up as the "keychain password") works on the "login" keychain and also an auxiliary keychain I created to store other passwords--there is no problem in revealing the information for these logins/passwords, using my usual passwords--the only problem is on the "System" keychain. My login password for my account is different from my keychain password, but this has not previously caused a problem. How can I get to this wifi password? What is going on with the System keychain, which seems to have created for itself a new, unknown password? Thanks.

OK, figured it out. My wife and I have had the same passwords since we turned on the computer, BUT, I had originally been the admin. A while back, for security, we decided to create a separate account for the admin, (with a new password, obviously), and remove admin privileges for my account.
So, just now, I logged into the admin account and opened keychain access, and there was the wifi device right on the top of the list, no "system" keychain present. I clicked on the "show password" box on the wifi item and the password was revealed. No "keychain password" or any other password requested. Very odd, and still no idea why the "system" keychain is so crazy or why there are two of them, but I'll take it. Thanks for your responses and ideas.

  • Keychain password for system chain

inside the keychain file, there is a keychain called system, it stored my wireless password, and there is a keychain call web access, which is now still empty, both are locked, I do not think I ever have a password for them, now I can not unlock it, because I never assigned a password, but it ask me for a password, before I can unlock it. How to get access to these two keychain?

Password issues are mysterious and so far I haven't had any luck in Apple Discussions finding someone with a similar problem. Using Keychain Access, I can unlock my System Keychain, but then I want to view one of the password items in this now unlocked keychain, say for example, our ship's WiFi network password. I am asked for the Keychain's password (I assume it is the password I just used to open the System Keychain) but a dialogue box appears telling me I am entering the incorrect password. Any ideas what's happening here?
    Many thanks,

  • System keeps on asking for keychain password when i'm in various programs or on web

System ask me to enter keychain password while on working in various programs or on web. how do I stop or reduce? notebook is not going into sleep mode.

    Back up all data.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Keychain Access in the page that opens.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select Change Settings for Keychain "login". In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
From the menu bar, select Keychain Access ▹ Preferences ▹ First Aid. If the box labeled Keep login keychain unlocked is not checked, check it.
Select Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.

  • My MacBook Core 2 Duo will not boot up.  In safe mode I see keychain problems and Mach 1102.

My MacBook Core 2 Duo will not boot up.  In safe mode I see keychain problems and Mach 1102 and it keeps circling through the same error.  Also the screen is so faint (pressing the F1 and F2 keys don't do anything).   I got this from a friend and he didn't have any of the original discs.  Any suggestions?  From what I've read it's a problem with a recent update.  I've never had a Mac so I'm trying to learn and fix it.

I just had an issue like this. I was able to boot up with an external firewire drive, although it was a lot of trouble. I think doing an option boot finally worked; holding down the option key, I eventually got to see the firewire drive was bootable, and booted from it.
I put the thing in verbose boot mode (command - v , I think; but please look it up. I have no Mac books at work to check). In verbose mode, you could see that the hard drive could not mount; the OS tried to do fsck, but it failed around 2/3 of the way, and the CPU was halted.
I was occasionally able to boot normally, but never in safe or single user modes; these do a disk test first, which invariably failed.
I could see from the system and console logs when I managed to get the firewire boot going that there were repeated errors trying to access drive s03, the internal SATA drive. The logs on the SATA drive showed huges numbers of errors. At a wild guess, for some reason a lot of sectors went bad all at once. There had been a some erratic behavior before, but I'd put that down to the single processor G5 problems. (these were non video related, just freezes).
Applecare wanted me to carry the huge thing into the local Apple store, but I persuaded them to just send me a replacment hard drive, which they did. The new one works perfectly.

  • Wifi keychain problems

Ever since I upgraded to Mavericks I've had keychain problems with my home network and other friend's wifi networks. It says "Keychain 'system' cannot be found to store 'my network name'." The option is "cance" or "reset to default." I've done a reset but that doesn't work. If I hit "cancel" then it asks me if I want to run diagnostics, which does nothing, or to cancel. If I hit cancel for a second time then the wifi works, but it does this to me everytime I wake up the computer.
Any suggestions on how to fix this bug? It's quite annoying on a daily basis

    anyone?
    thanks

  • Mac Mini Intel Keychain problems + Entourage

This Mac mini is not even a week old and I had to twice reinstall Tiger to get this keychain problem gone and it just keeps comming back like a bad cold.
Keychain keeps on getting messed up for no good reason and keeps losing my passwords.
I have deleted the keychain files tryed to repair reinstalled tiger 2 times already and after 3 - 5 days it comes back.
Is this a new virus or is my Mac mini being hacked or what ???
Oh and what is up with Office for mac is there a patch to make it work with tiger as it keeps on crashing and several other problems ????

Well, if your Keychain issues keep coming back, then reinstalling Tiger probably isn't a good idea anymore, as you now know it will not solve them.
After the re-installs, did you download and install the latest updates (with Software Update) ?
Also, it would help to know with which application(s) you entered the passwords that your Keychain loses.
Even though there are a few viruses for Mac OS X, I doubt that you got one, as they aren't very widespread and, as far as I know, do not corrupt Keychains. It doesn't seem very likely that your being hacked either, unless you have specific reasons to consider yourself a target. However enabling Mac OS X's built-in firewall isn't a bad idea if you haven't installed any third-party solution. Just open System Preferences (which can be accessed through your Applications folder, or though the Apple Menu - the blue Apple icon in the Menu Bar, at the top of your screen - beneath "Software Update..." and "Mac OS X Software..."), and open the Sharing pane (Internet & Network section), where you will find a Firewall tab. Once you're there, simply click on "Start" to enable the firewall.
There have been a few reports of Office:mac crashing on Intel Macs, but they don't seem to occur very often, and the only thing I can think of to fix this is to download the latest update from Microsoft's website ...

  • Keychain problem

I had forgotten my account password, irronically I had made it earlier that day and just hadn't written it down, and then I got my Dad (admin) to remove the password. I then reinstated another password that I use all the time I won't forget. Then I open Safari and get a Keychain access message that pops up asking for my password, so I enter my account password. It doesn't work. This continues for about 4 or 5 pop ups and then it quits. My saved passwords and usernames etc that are on Keychain are not being recalled! I got my Dad to try his admin password(s) on the pop-up just for the hec of it and to no avail! I don't know what to do!
Error Message Reads something like this:
    Please Enter You Keychain password
Safari wants to use Keychain "login" please type password:
I don't have a password so what's wrong with the thing!!

Normally your account password and your keychain password are the same... and if you change your own account password it will also change your keychain password in order to keep them in sync. When the two passwords are in sync your keychain can be automatically unlocked when you login.
However, if you change your account password through another user's admin account (ie your Dad's) or by doing a password reset after booting from the system DVD it only changes the account password. The keychain password is not changed. You can also manually set your keychain password to be different from your account password using the Keychain Access application.
Once your keychain password is different from your account password then your keychain will not be automatically unlocked when you login. And you'll begin seeing password prompts when various applications attempt to access your keychain. At this point, if you know the keychain password you can manually bring it back into sync with the account password by using Keychain Access.
In your case, when your Dad changed your password it only changed the account password. So your keychain password is mostly likely still set to whatever the password was that you had forgotten. If you can remember what that password was then you can manually change the keychain password to match the account password - using Keychain Access.
If not, then your only option is to delete your keychain and let the system re-create a new one (which will be created with the same password as your account password.
    To delete your keychain:
    - go into your home folder at /Users/YourUserName/Library/Keychains
    - move the login.keychain file out of the Keychains folder and put it in the Trash or on your Desktop
    - logout and log back in
    - you should now have a newly created (empty) login.keychain and it's password should match your account password.

  • Keychain problem?  Everything is forgetting everything!  :-(

Well, it seems like it anyhow.  I sync between my home and work computers and also we have security people mucking around with stuff and occasionally breaking my world, so I don't know where to point the finger.  This is one where I don't know where to start troubleshooting.
Here are the symptoms:  Safari is forgetting all my previously saved logins.  Mail forgets my usernames and passwords for one account or another.  My program JollyFastVNC forgets my username.  It is just a system-wide amnesia regarding authentication, and it all seems related somehow to my keychain.
Something is corrupt in Keychain Land, I think, and it might have happened during a sync operation.  So I'd like to know how to safely "reset" my keychain while keeping a backup and then how to add items back in as a troubleshooting step, similar to the "find the corrupted extensions" dance some of us know so well from OS 9 days.
This is all on a desktop Intel mac running 10.6.7 with lots of RAM etc.  Not happening at home, just at work, with basically the same setup.

First, download OnyX 1.8.5 for Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).
Install it but don't run it yet.
    <http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html>
    1) Launch your Script Editor (Applications>AppleScript>Script Editor) and paste the blue code below into it. Then click Run.
do shell script "rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.keychainaccess.plist"
do shell script "rm -rf ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist"
do shell script "rm -rf ~/Library/Keychains/"
    2) Quit the Script Editor and restart your Mac.
    3) Launch OnyX 1.8.5 and click on the 'Automation' tab. When OnyX has finished, restart again.
    4) Launch Keychain Access and from the Keychain Access menu select Keychain First Aid -> Repair.
    Now test your internet applications.
BTW, Trash all the Keychain files on your desktop.

  • Airport Keychain problems

How do I find the keychain password for the system keychain?
I open keychain access and find the Airport network passwork under the system keychain. When I ask to see the password I cannot - it says my keychain password is incorrect. This is my user pasword and it works for the login keychain.
Why do I want to know? Because the last 2 times I've installed an apple software update, I've been locked out of the Air Express Network. Now there are more updates and I am reluctant to install them since the last times took many many hours of work to recover from, and in neither case do I know why the computer eventually asked if I wanted to fix my keychain.

This explains why it has followed me for multiple system versions, across multiple different computers. I always move System Preferences into Utilities (where it belongs, dammit!). It would have persisted on my "new" system had I rebuilt it.

  • Troubleshooting System Recovery Problems

A System Recovery is a useful tool to return your Windows 8 tablet back to factory defaults. However, what do you do when the System Recovery isn't working!?
A full System Recovery can be a lengthy process as there is a lot of data being transferred. Patience is the key, as a full Recovery can take two to four hours to complete.
For more information check out HP's Troubleshooting HP System Recovery Problems for Windows 8. This document will help you get your Windows 8 tablet back up and running.
TIP: If you are planning on using the System Recovery make sure that you do not change or delete the HP Recovery Partition as that will make all but impossible to Restore your tablet using the HP Recovery Manager.

  • Problem with system recovery for a new hard drive in my Pavilion p6210y Windows 7 Premium 64bit

I decided to swap out  my hard drive when my computer would fail to start up or crash right after starting. Diagnostic tool at startup said the hard drive was faulty and other times I would get BIOHD-1 and BIOHD-2 errors. I replaced the old WD Caviar Blue 640GB with a new Caviar Green 1TB. I ordered and received from HP a system recovery disc set which included five discs labeled:
    Use This First! System Recovery,
    System Recovery 1:1,
    SYstem Recovery 1:3,
    System Recovery 2:3, and
    System Recovery 3:3.
After putting in the new hard drive I used the "Use This First!" disc and everything seemed to be going fine. The scene showed "Loading Windows" or something like that. After about 10 minutes the CD drive opened and the Monitor showed three images: a big green check mark which I assume meant everything was good up to that point; a graphic showing the removal of the first disc; and a graphic showing three discs to be put in. Wondering whether to put in the System Recovery 1:1 disc or the System Recovery 1:3 disc, I noticed that the drive bay closed with the "Use This First" disc still in. I managed to get the Drive to open after pressing the open button quite a few times. I closed it with the 1:3 disc and nothing happened (no light showing activity in the DVD drive). After a minute or so I managed to get the drive open again after quite a few times pressing the open button. I put in the 1:1 disc and still nothing. At this point I could only open the drive bay with a paper clip in the release hole. With the computer unresponsive and the monitor still showing the same as when the first disc came out, I decided to turn it off with the "Use this First!" disc in the drive hoping to start from the beginning again. Now the directions that came with the HP System Recovery discs state:
CAUTION: Do not turn off the computer, or use the keyboard or mouse during this time. Doing so will interrupt or damage the software installation.
Now when I turn the power on I get either:
the HP blue screen with the green hand, (F11=system recovery), (F9=Diagnostics), (F10=Setup) and (ESC=Boot Menu). pressing esc, F9, F10 or F11 does nothing.
Or the HP blue screen appears and then almost immediately goes to the black screen with " Reboot and select proper boot device or insert Boot media in select Boot device and press a key". I've gotten this scene while trying almost every System Recovery disc in the drive. Hitting a key does nothing other than repeating the same message.
Once I got a "The file is corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computer checksum" error. That appeared only once in about 30 try's.
The open DVD drive button works sometimes and not other times. I can't seem to figure out a pattern for when it will work.
I don't know whether I might have accidentally moved the mouse or hit the keyboard during the first attempt. Can I  do something to the new hard drive to get it back to a state where it can start from the beginning again? Might it be a problem other than the old hard drive. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yes, of course! See the link to your model's spec above.
My apologies. The previous link went to a spec for the Satellite A505-S6960 (which came with Windows Vista installed). I had too many spec pages open at the same time and got them mixed.
So, are you telling me that I won't get this one to work?(the BPKT)
No. But you may face the problems that I outlined in this message.

I had issues where my MacPro 8-core would not boot after the 10.7.4 upgrade, but my MacBook Air 13" 2011 upgrade worked just fine.
I had to restore my MacPro HD from my TimeMachine back up. Apparently, the Softraid raid drivers that I use on my MacPro are not compatible yet with 10.7.4. See here for more info:
