System Landscape in XI environment

Hi,
We are having three XI systems, XID (Dev), XIQ(Qtly) and XIP(Prod) and an EPP (Enterprise Portal). Earlier EPP was pointing to SLD of XID. Now we want to revamp the components and install them in a better way. Currently we are thinking of the following options.
Options 1) Export SLD from XID and import into XIP
Point XIP and EPP to XIP-SLD
Leave all non-production pointing to XID
Option 2) Export SLD from XID and import into XIP & EPP
Point EPP to EPP-SLD
Point XIP to XIP-SLD
Leave all non-production pointing to XID
Option 3) Implement Full-blown parent/child SLD replication including NJP
Requires research.  Is this higher risk?
Can you suggest me the better option to maintain the landscape in a better way? And also support your suggestion by providing the suitable documents which will help me to realize myself to understand the same.
Thanks & Regards,
Suraj Kumar

Suraj,
His suggestion is to have one SLD because it would be easy for you gusy to maintain. Also it would be easy when transporting. If you keep increasing then it will confuse yourself only. I think we will not have any document on this.
Check this doucments which may give you some idea:

  • Transports on system landscape with no test environment

    Hi,
Please share your experience about transporting from BWD to BWP. I have normally worked with BWD, BWQ, BWP, where we have the chance to test our transports on BWQ before moving the perfect changes to BWP. What precautions should I take when working and dealing with the landscape with no test instance?
    Thanks

    Hi all,
Certainly I see and hear that smaller companies don't have enough funds to implement 3- system landscape, but I don't see why they would want to do that - better save money then and just do ABAP R3 reporting if all you will have is just implementing one module. Aren't you suppose to have sufficient funds in order to maintain and have SAP R3 and BW running? When they start wanting to implement more modules, then it will get clumsy and unstructured. They would have to spend more effort in doing the workaround and dealing with an unruly environment.

  • System landscape planning on system i

    Hi,
We have V5R4 latest AS/400 Model with 2  LPARS(Logical Partitions). Each LPAR consists 2 TB storage and 30GB RAM.
    a) LPAR1 - 2TB Storage ( SB,TA,DEV,QAS) :
    b) LPAR2- 2 TB Storage for Production (PRD) + HA- High Availability
Our initial plan is All Solution Manager Instances B,TA,DEV,QAS), ECC6.0 Instances
    (SB,TA,DEV,QAS), Net Weaver 2004s instances (SB,TA,DEV,QAS) install on LPAR1.
Each LPARS consists 3 iASPs(Auxilarlly  Storage Pool).
    ASP1- SYSBASE stores all Instances(Solution Manager,ECC6.0,Netweaver 2004s)  Files Systems like /usr/sap/SID-SB,TA,DEV,QAS.
    ASP2- Journals : Stores all instances(Solution Manager,ECC6.0,Netweaver 2004s) recent databse changes.
    ASP3 - Libraries storesStores all instances(Solution Manager,ECC 6.0,Net weaver2004s)Database informations
But We are planning to implement 2 iASPs in LPAR1 ( DEV/TR/QA )
    a) ASP1 - Sysbase + journals
    b) ASP2 - Database
what approach would be best  for our SAP system landscape environment.

    Not quite, Nesimi
The planning guide is clear: For each data supplier, you need a dedicated user in the central SLD.
What I do not understand is why. Why can't I get away with using the SLDDSUSER of the central SLD for all data suppliers? What difference does it make if I have a dedicated user for each data supplier in the central SLD?
I have 10 systems to send data to my central SLD and I want to avoid creating 10 different users, if it can be avoided

  • System Landscape directory not available error,

I am still a beginner, and I am having some slight trouble understanding, what tools would be needed, and how to install. I am using the forums.
We have the MII Discovery Server up and running.
    NWDS Server installation is done.
We have the MII track ready to be used for Development(SLD URL is available) , Userid and password available
I am working on installing the NWDS 7.3 Developer Workspace.
Would I also need to do NWDS Server install on my laptop?
    Would these steps be sufficient?
    1. Download and install JDK 1.6
    2. Copy the file nwds-extsoa-7.3-SP00-PAT0000-win32.zip from:
    <your download location>\51039309\DATA_UNITS\JAVA_IDE\distros\com.sap.netweaver.developerstudio.distribution.complete.extsoa\8.30.0.101020102100
    to a convenient folder.
    3. Extract the content and you will have a folder with name eclipse.
    4. Launch the Netweaver Developer Studio from folder eclipse, you may want to create a shortcut on the Desktop.
    5. If you haven't maintained JAVA_HOME property or if it's pointing to some other java version, eclipse will complain about it. In the dialog window locate the JDK 1.6 installation. Path to JDK 1.6  should be something like
    C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_25\bin
    6. Restart the NWDS after this and select a suitable workspace.
    7. Set the run time engine in NWDS, by going through the menu path:
    Window->Preferences->SAP AS JAVA
    Question:
    1. I am unable to Set the run time engine in NWDS, please could  you give me details steps with what I would need to enter for Instance Hostname and Instance Number...etc
    2. As part of Development installation do I have to Modifying the Logon Page? Do I have to go thru the Server installation in order to start developing on eclipse environment?
I do not have the war file. How do i  Copy the war file tcsecumelogonui.war from
    <Installation drive>:\usr\sap\<SID>\J00\j2ee\cluster\apps\sap.com\com.sap.security.core.logon\servlet_jsp\logon_ui_resources\tcsecumelogonui.war
    3. System Landscape directory not available error,
In the Component Browser when I right click and select New u2013 Development Configuration u2013 Import From System Landscape Directory (SLD) u2013 Next (Enter UserID and Password)
    Thank you

    Hello,
For the SLD error, please,  configure SLD following as per this docuemtnation:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw04/helpdata/EN/bb/c2b6421a75da11e10000000a155106/frameset.htm
Regarding the settings to enter NWDS to connect to AS Java, you have to enter the java instance data so that NWDS can connect to it in order to make deployments, etc....
Please, see also the following documentation that explains stp by step how to work with NWDS.

  • SAP Three-System Landscape

    Hi All,
I have a very basic doubt - I have read umpteen times that the SAP recommendation is to use a 3-system landscape for performance reasons. One system for the developement, one for quality assurance and one for the production environment.
However, I want more clarity on what a 'system' is. Does it mean I purchase 3 mySAP ERP licenses for my implementation and then implement DEV, QAS and PRD in each of them? But would that not multiple my costs 3 times if I decide to move from legacy system to an SAP implementation?
    Thanks and Regards,
    Vidya.

    Srividya D. wrote:>
    > Yes, all clients in a single SAP software get affected if any client-independent customizing. So do you mean by having different hardware systems for the different logical systems (DEV, QAS, PRD) client-independent customizing in one client in one hardware system does not affect another client in another hardware system? But I don't quite understand this since the concept of a client is per SAP system and not hardware system.
Yes. exactly if the system are different then any config/changes will not going to affect another system until unless you move any transport. Client is a buisness unit to identify the Buisness data, It is system specific.
    > By an instance if you mean an SAP Application Server, though there are multiple application servers on multiple hardware systems, the underlying Repository (nothing but database) and client-independent data should still be common right? Or do you mean that if I implement 3 instances of the SAP ERP system over 3 hardware systems, each instance or application server then has its own client space which do not interfere with the clients in the other hardware system?
I mean to say you required 3 Hardware, for 3 Database, and 3 SAP instance, 1:1 concept. everything will be seperate and will not interfare with any other system.

  • How to deal with customer motive in three system landscape?

    Hello,
I am developing a portal application based on the Composition Environment 7.1 in a three system landscape. Now, I have created a customer motive on the development system.
What is the proposed way to transport this motive from the development system to the quality aussurance and the production system?
Is there some sort of transport mechanism or do I have to export / import the motive?
    Best regards
    Alexander

    Hello,
Portal themes can be moved use the theme transport tool. From system admin -> portal display -> theme transport there is an option to store a theme as a zip file and then you can upload it to another portal.
I know that this is possible. My question is, whether this is the preferred (or intended) way to do this.
    Best regards

  • Visualizing SAP XI routing configuration across the system landscape

    Hi Experts
Iam facing some challenges in visualizing SAP XI routing configuration across the system landscape (Development, Quality, Production). Basically routing is based on a field (technical target system). Depending on the environment we have different target systems (different Mainframe DB that represent the same target system) configured.
Any word/excel/ppt/pdf templates or any comments that could help visualizing routing would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks! Santosh

    Hi Santhosh,
If you are worrieed about how your Business Systems will change when you move from Dev to QA to PROD for the Configuration in your ID, then the answer is simple.
You can create transport target for your Business System and so when you migrate the ID objects from dev to Qa and so on, the business Systems will be automatically replaced.
Take a look at this blog,

  • Quick question on BOE deployment for SAP BW with 3 system landscape

Client has SAP BW environment with 3 system landscape: Dev, QA, Production
Should BOE be installed seperately on 3 different machines for each of them?
Or is there any best practice for this?
    Thanks,
    Henry

    Hello Henry,
yes - i would recommend this Setup. Technically there is no need for it but on an organisational/development/deployment level it makes more sence.
I often saw it at customers that Dev and Q&A is on virtual machines and Prod is on a physically machines. Saves some Hardware costs.

  • Get Url of a Http System Landscape

    Hi All,
I have created a HTTP system landscape in the portal in order to perform some user mapping.
In order to make my web dynpro compatible with multiple environ environments I would like to retrieve the URL of that HTTP System programmatically.
Is it possible to achieve this in web dynpro?
    I'm using SAP EP 11.
    Thanks,

  • 4-system landscape

    Hi,
We have a scenario were we might need to have 4-system landscape, need advise:
We currently have 3-system landscape DEV/QAS/PRD (ERP 6.0/Linux/Oracle).
There is a new major develpemnt project comming our way and need to know how to plan our system landscape for the development and testing environment. The new project might last 6 months and during this developement phase there is major master data changes/configuration. During this phase how do we make sure the current production support is carried out effectively ? since the new developement/testing would have changed the data/configuration in our DEV and QAS box.
Is it possible to have 2 different development system ? in the landscape ?
Also is it possible to have  2 different Quality systems for 2 groups of developers ?
If so how would it fix into out current landscape ?
Or is there an alternative way to achieve this ?
    Thanks

    Hi Baigsa,
Thanks for your reply and valuble suggestion.
This is what I am thinking of doing
    Before golive
DEV->QAS->PRD - this remains as it is for (BAU) business as usual transports. And a new landscape consisting of DE2 and QA2 is setup from copies of DEV and QAS rescpectively.
Any transport released from DEV for BAU is also applied to DE2 and QA2.
    DEV->DE2->QA2
During Go-Live all transports created in DE2 and which has passed testing in QA2 are moved to PRD.
After go-live the DE2 and QA2 becomes the main development and quality systems
    DE2->QA2->PRD.
Is this a suggested approach according to your suggestion ?
    Am I missing somthing here
    Thanks

  • SolMan ChaRM - System landscape not ready yet

    Hi all,
We are configuring ChaRM for an implementation use, therefore all the systems are not set up yet.
Is it possible in SolMan to define logical component without "real" systems ?
We saw that in STMS it was possible to create virtual systems, but how do we link these virtual systems to SolMan ChaRM ?
Is it possible to define a virtual system landscape and to build and configure ChaRM scenario with this ?
Thanks a lot for all your help,
    Regards.

Yes, it is possible to define a development system and virtual systems (Q- and P-System).
Via transaction SMSY you can describe the planned Q- and P-System at first as 'virtual'.
Create transport routes with transport buffers as you would do for existing systems.
Define the buffers as they should be named in future.
For experimental purposes we connected our IDES-System to our development SolMan system.
In this environment we could map such a ChaRM-configuration.
In the meantime we practiced it in our production SolMan system, too.
    Best regards

  • How to configure new system landscape in portal server for bsp iview

    Hi
can you tell me what are the necessary parameters (apart form default parameters that were there while creating new system landscape) for configuring a system landscape for using it in bsp iviews.
    thanks & regards
    Ashutosh

    Hello,
what you call system name has to be the system alias, and this alias has to be the same between DEV/QUAL/PROD environment.
Your portal application will look for data/BAPIs/etc... with this alias. Your portal application will know on which environment it has to retrieve data/BAPIs/etc... will be defined in each system object you have defined for each environment.

  • System landscape - SAP BO BI onDemand

    Hi,
I am unable to find any documentation related how the system landscape is set up in SAP BO BI onDemand.
From the getting started documentation I understand that all the development is done on the web. Does this mean all dev will be done in a development enviroment, transported accross to QA and then to Prod?
Or is this kind of create and use type of environment.
Thanks a lot in advance for clarification.
    Thanks,
    Sandeep

    HI Sandeep,
You are correct, there is really only one site bi.ondemand.com - there is no test site for developing reports and testing them.
You could treat your mystuff folders as testing location.  You can develop datasets, visualizations, reports there and share them to individual test users if you wanted.  Once they were good, you could publish them to the org side of your account for consumption by all of your normal users.
    Cheers
    Steve
