System language (Mac OS D1-9.2.2)

Hi there
I've got the last Mac OS 9 installed on my Power Macintosh G3 (as mentioned in the subject).
If I want to start QuarkXPress, either 4.11 or 5.0, an error message occures and tells that "This version of QuarkXPress Passport cannot run with this system [4]".
Where can I change my system language that QuarkXPress will run as it did before?
Thanks in advance!
Alex

Hi, afitsch -
"This version of QuarkXPress Passport cannot run with this system [4]"
At Quark's support website, Tech Support article ID 294 provides this response to that error -
• The language version of your copy of QuarkXPress must be compatible with the language version of your operating system. If you installed the Mac OS 8.x Setup Assistant, launch it, and follow the directions on-screen to make sure the regional preferences for your operating system are set to a language that matches your version of QuarkXPress.
• If the language versions of your copy of QuarkXPress and your operating system match and you still get this alert, check to make sure you have the correct Mac OS keyboard layout selected (Apple Menu > Control Panels > Keyboard).
You have described your installed OS 9 as version D1-9.2.2. The "D1" indicates it is the German language version.
Unlike OSX (which has a default install of multi-language capability), all OS 9 installs are single language only. That is, the native language of the OS is unchangeable; each stand-alone OS 9 Install CD is capable of installing only one language.
This means that to change the native language of an OS 9 install, it is necessary to re-install the OS via Clean Install using an install disk for the new language.
You can, however, use different keyboard layouts. The Mac comes pre-equipped with various ones. Setting which ones are available is done via the Keyboard control panel - checkmark the language keyboard layouts you want available, then use the Keyboard Layout menu that will appear in the main menubar to change the active layout (that menu is the one represented by a flag next to the menubar clock).

  • System language on mac OS

Hallo. can anyone tell me this.. do all apple OS ship with the actual system language in US english? I know that you can change the language (or get rid of some) on install but is this just dialogue boxes etc? In other words if I were to buy OS leopard in Germany for instance and had to get right in to the system to fix a software problem, would everything be in that language? What actually changes when you change the language? Just curious really being an english speaker in france! cheers and thanks in advance.

All OS X installs are multilingual by default. You can change the language of the menus and dialogues to English in a few seconds by going to system prefs/international/language and putting English at the top of the list and doing logout/login. App's normally follow the language of the OS, assuming they include that language in the localization files.

  • Cannot sync apps / app icons distorted - if system language is non-English

    1. If I select Russian(my native language) as the system language, the Apps section/tab does not appear fully when I click on it. The Apps tab is selected, but it shows the contents of the Summary tab. I cannot sync apps with my iPhone.
    2. The icons of the apps appear black and distorted.
    Here is a screenshot: http://i066.radikal.ru/1005/4c/e732b7b093de.jpg
If I select English in the System Settings, the Apps tab appears fully and the apps icons are displayed properly, so I can sync apps.
I reinstalled iTunes exactly as described at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1224 but this does not help.

    fixed by reinstalling mac os.

  • System Language after upgrade to 10.4.6

    Hi everybody,
my PowerBook seems to run nicely after the upgrade, however, the language of the LoginWindow has changed from German (my user's default) to English. The language of my account is German when I'm logged in. Any hints on how to resolve this?
    Thanks, Jonas
PS: No, this is not critical... but it's not nice, either.

The update didn't change my system language (Danish), so it can't be a general problem. How did you update your system?
I used the Combo Update¹ and ran Repair Permissions both before and after the update. I always use the Combo version of updates just to be sure. So far (knock on wood) I haven't had any trouble with updates for 10.4

  • Different Safari and system language

Hi, I would like to ask, if it is possible to have different system language (System Preferences > Language/Religion/Preferred Languages) and Safari language. The problem is, that I want to have my Mac in english (Preferred Language - English), but Safari in Czech language, because if I set my Mac language english, then safari automatically turns pages into english language, and i have to click back on the Czech flag. I'm sure everybody knows the option which some webpages have - its usually on upper right corner, where are two or more flags depending on what language do you want to have the webpage.
Theres an option in Chrome to change this (Chrome > Preferences > Show Advanced Settings > Languages > Language and imput settings), but for Safari I'll have to figure it out by Terminal or something I believe..I don't know. Eventually that's why I'm here asking you.
    Thx a lot guys! x)

Funny is that before Lion or Mavericks there was no Czech language option in System Preferences, so I had to use English, but Safari didn't have problem automatically set language of the pages into Czech.
Before there was a Czech localization, you could use the Edit button to put Czech at the top of the list in system preferences and the OS would stay in English but Safari would ask for Czech web pages.   But I don't know how Safari could ask for Czech pages without doing that.

  • Changing System Language Messed up my Library

iTunes is so messed up and bloated at this point that I'm regularly using Spotlight and VLC to play music!
Anyway, I switched my System language from English to Japanese and now much of my 'Classical' genre I had assigned became 'クラシカル' per Apple's whim. When I double-click a song, 'poof' it disappears. So am I now expected to switch over to クラシカル because of Apple's bug? No, I just reassigned the new クラシカル genre back to 'Classical,' but in the meantime wasting my day and feeling resentful.
I was always a Mac user because Microsoft expected me to do things THEIR way, not mine. While I initially strongly applauded the iPhone, I see now how iOS has encroached upon the desktop/laptop users too and is increasingly boxing us in. Settings are meant to be 'Set' which hopefully means having to do that task only once. If Apple is aggravating its loyal customer base with a flagship application, I can't say things are boding well there in Cupertino, at least not for me.
Yes, I get it. Apple keeps 'updating' the library by going on the web based on some new action. But I do not want it to do that. Sometimes I want it to update the library, but I want to tell it when I need that done. This is not user-friendly, it's corporate-friendly.
P.S. I tried to update my profile computer to OS 10.9.3 and Apple hasn't even updated that database yet! What the....???

In all my attempts to screw up iPhoto, I don't think I've ever lost a photo that was in the damaged library to begin with. That you can see your pictures in Albums, but not in the Library view is highly irregular. Are the images you see in the albums the full-size images, or are they just thumbnails of the original (that is probably no longer in the library)?
If you've ever enhanced or cropped photos in your old library, that would explain the duplicates. When an image is altered, iPhoto squirrels the original away in case you ever want to revert back to the unaltered version. When the library is rebuilt, depending on the corruption, those originals become orphans. iPhoto treats them as "found" images in your library, and they would show up as duplicates.

  • System language switch

I would to change time to time system language.... in my spare time I use to translate many apps into Spanish...
since now this was easy... I rum system in Spanish on my mac pro and English ( with an English keyboard) on my macbook 17 ... but now I need French too...
for apps, no problem, I go to system preferences and I switch to desired language..
I need to check system terms, because many translations are literal and sound unusual for they language.

You can also set up additional user accounts in different languages and switch to them using fast user switching.
many thanks, I have always thought that this preference worked only at application level...

  • HT204319 I have a MacBook that I bought in October 2009, its current operating system is Mac OS X 10.6.8. I would like to purchase an Printmaster from the app store but it requires 10.7.3 or later. ????? What can I do?

I would like to purchase an app but it requires an operating system of OS X 10.7.3 or later and I only have 10.6.8 What do I need to do? Can I get that on my MacBook?

Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
    Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
         Snow Leopard General Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
           2. 1GB of memory
           3. 5GB of available disk space
           4. DVD drive for installation
           5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
               fees may apply.
           6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
               terms apply.
    Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
         Lion System Requirements
           1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
               or Xeon processor
           2. 2GB of memory
           3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
           4. 7GB of available space
           5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
                 Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
    Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

Software update will only bring you up to the current level of the system you are using - you are at the maximum for Snow Leopard. To get Lion or higher you will have to go to the Mac App Store in Applications and purchase it there (Yosemite is free). You will need to check that your Mac meets the requirements and you should particularly note that PPC programs such as AppleWorks will not run in Lion or above.
    The requirements for Lion are:
Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
    2GB of memory
    OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
    7GB of available space
Lion is available in the Online Apple Store ($19.99). Mountain Lion (10.8.x) is also available there at the same price (though it's reported to have been removed from sale in some countries so may well cease to be available generally) but there seems little point as the system requirements are the same for Yosemite (10.10.x) - which is free - unless you need to run specific software which will run on Mountain Lion only.
The requirements for Mountain Lion and Yosemite are:
    OS X v10.6.8 or later
    2GB of memory
    8GB of available space
      and the supported models are:
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer)
    Xserve (Early 2009)
MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer)
Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer)
Yosemite is available from the Mac App Store (in Applications). Mountain Lion can be obtained the Online Apple Store. (Mavericks is no longer available.)
If the problem is only with Safari and you are otherwise happy with Snow Leopard you could switch to FireFox (free) - the latest version of that will run in Snow Leopard.

  • To export system language to a browser using CALL_BROWSER

    Hello Experts,
I am triggering a search help exit with the search help in my R\3 system, which indirectly takes me to the netweaver system via RFC. In the Netweaver function module I have used the call_browser FM to call a browser. While defining the URL I want to export the system language ( the one where my search help is present) in the browser. Please let me know , by calling which FM in my Netweaver system I can export system language parameter to the browser.

    Hi Calvin!
This isn't possible. Applets just can handle events inside its phisical area as they run in a security model called "sandbox". Using class netscape.javascript.* possiblies interaction between applets and javascripts but there are many constraints and finally method "showDocument()" just open a new http address.
