System locks up when I open Firefox.
I have a Lenovo Thinkpad running Windows XP sp3.
Two days ago, Firefox locked up, along with windows. I had to turn off and restart. The system will restart after running chkdsk and recovering a bunch of "orphaned" files. It doesn't report any problems with the hard disk.
After restarting Windows, I am able to connect to the internet and run other browsers and generally the computer runs fine until I try to run Firefox. It opens and gives the message "Well, this is embarrassing. . ." but nothing else happens. The entire system freezes up until I shut it down and restart the computer.
I have received a couple of blue screens, but they give different crash ids and the recent lock ups have had no blue screens.
I have sent reports to Mozilla with the reporting software.
Hi, please go to Options (cog wheel) - in the 3-bar menu unless you've moved it. Then in the General tab, make sure that 'When Firefox starts' is set to 'Show my home page.' Also make sure that 'Home Page' is set to '''about:newtab '''Then restart Firefox.
Hope that helps.

after a system restart, when I open Firefox, a new tab appears with My Yahoo displayed. I have my options set to restore session/tabs, with my home page listed as blank [not the best, i know]. I have not installed any new programs, other than Norton, to 2010 and have only done updates as required.

Hi,
When I open firefox (note: I got firefox version 28.0 and Karspersky security 2014) I get a black screen covering the whole firefox window and it looks more lika a big command prompt window, in firefox. What is it?
Regards
JeanHuh, that's a new one...
Can you try Firefox in [[Safe Mode | Safe Mode]] to see if the problem goes away. I'm thinking it's an extension.
*Run ''firefox.exe -safe-mode'' in the search bar on the Start Menu. (Make sure Firefox is closed)
Have you added any new extensions recently around the time this started happening? Your system details shows the following:
*Adobe Acrobat - Create PDF 1.2 ([email protected])
*Anti-Banner 14.0.0.4917 ([email protected])
*Dangerous Websites Blocker 14.0.0.4917 ([email protected])
*Kaspersky URL Advisor 14.0.0.4917 ([email protected])
*Troubleshooter 1.1a ([email protected]) '''This is default so this isn't the problem.'''

Recent activite comes up when I open firefox?
When I open firefox the recent website I was on comes up. I just want yahoo to be my homepage and open whenever I launch firefox. How can I fix it?
You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that sets the <b>browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once</b> pref to true.
Your System Details list shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time Firefox starts.
The user.js file is only present if you or other software has created this file and normally it wouldn't be there.
You can check its content with a plain text editor (right-click: "Open with"; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read each time Firefox is started and initializes preferences to the value specified in this file, so preferences set via user.js can only be changed temporarily for the current session.
You can delete the user.js file if you didn't create this file yourself.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
Today when I open Firefox the web page didn't appear in restore mode, but it appeared in task bar I then tried full screen which did come up as a full page, then when I restored down I lost it again and it was still in the task bar and would regain full page when asked. That's how I'm sending this request. Also when loading gmail the system crashed.

I always chose "save & quit" when I close and sometimes all my history is gone when I open Firefox again. Why? It just happened again. Can I get that history back?
You get message "firefox is still running" and computer restart doesn't help you. Try the advice below.
Make sure Firefox isn't running (end firefox.exe process in Task Manager or restart computer)
Find your profile folder
C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default
find file "parent.lock" in it and delete it (the file is empty, its function is to signify to Firefox whether it's already open or not).
Then try to open Firefox again. Will it start or not? What will it say? -
after i install any version of firefox on my htc chacha (android 2.3),when i open firefox,in some versions of firefox i get this error: "the application firefox (process org.mozilla.firefox) has stopped unexpectedly.please try again."
and when i try again i get the same error again and again
in some other versions i get this error: " this device does not meet the minimum system requirements for firefox"
btw i can not install any program from android market so i have to download files through my pc and install them on my phoneThe reason why your phone will not install Firefox from Market is because it has a older ARMv6 cpu when ARMv7 is required.
The good news is that Mozilla is looking to try and have ARMv6 builds of mobile Firefox releases in future. Your phone looks to have reasonable specs to run it then.
Another option is to try the third-party builds from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25855563 -
the search bar is there but other than that, as iv said, all the text is on top of my desktop picture, i have had a message saying something like 'Firfox cound not down load updates due to another instance of Firefox running please close this down' but i have not opened another Firefox (this message has stopped now)
Also i have tried to ask this question recently but when Firefox sent me an email to click on the link to publish it, i got a message stating 'Something is wrong, we could not activate your account please make sure you have clicked on the correct link in your email' (i bet it will happen this time as well, hope not) its ironic i got to use IE to send this.Well got this sorted, i managed to pick out the 'help' section on my desktop when i opened Firefox (not an easy task as you can see from my screen shoot) saw 'check for updates' mouse clicked all around this statement (as there were no buttons) and was advised to update to ver: 3.6.16 now everything is ok, still dont know what the problem was but hey its fixed, put a system restore point in just in case. thanks all.

There are times that when I open firefox I get a runtime error . After that I have to close firefox. I hope that this matter can be resolved. I recently updated to firefox 3.6.4 I have been having this issue before I had updated to firefox 3.6.4 It also staes that firefox has stopped working.
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

WHEN I OPEN FIREFOX MULTIPLE FIREFOX BROWSERS OPEN
When I open Firefox multiple FireFox browsers open approx. 17. The first 1 you see is your homepage if you X it out all of the rest are netflix. The other odd thing is unless you click the home button when you close firefox the next time you open the browser you will go to the last page visited.
I have the same problem. Firefox 11.0 crashes when loading latimes.com.
Running on Mac OS X 10.6.8
When I loaded it in safe mode it returns the following error as it crashes:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
java/lang/ClassNotFoundException: error in opening JAR file <invalid CEN header (bad signature)> /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Classes/classes.jar
I'm running Java Plugin version 1.6.0.29 (the most recent). -

EX: my homepage is Youtube.com and when i open firefox, it brings me to youtube but the adress bar says, "Go to a website", instead of the link of the page im on. it is VERY annoying and i really need the link because i actually do use it a lot!You just need to update the setting under the Startup to not restore your previous session. Go to Tools - > Options - > General Tab. At the top it says 'When Firefox starts:' with a dropdown. Just select Show my homepage.

It started a year ago when I opened Firefox I got an error message, so I removed firefox & re-installed it. Still no go! So I opened "C" drive & searched for anything "firefox" & found a 2002 version!! I deleted everything, restart, & installed firefox and what I get now is what you see above.
OS is XPpro, sp3 + many updates.Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
I have 20+ tabs always open on Firefox and it's set to remember them. However, when I open Firefox the first tab changes from what I had open there into my homepage, Google. I can use the "go backward" thing to get to the page I had there, but since it goes back to Google every time I restart the browser that gets tedious.
The only way to solve this that I've found is to just stop trying to use the first tab and let it be Google. However, I'd like some actual solution that stops this from happening if possible. Thanks for the reply, it seems to have solved my issue.
My tabs are normal and unpinned, I just have Firefox set to open all my current tabs. Safe Mode didn't seem to have this issue, so I disabled Classic Theme Restorer. Several restarts didn't have problems, so I enabled it again and now this isn't happening anymore. Hopefully it stays gone for good and didn't just stop momentarily.
Edit. So as soon as I posted this, it started happening again. More testing definitely points to Classic Theme Restorer as the cause, so I'll have to investigate solutions on that end.
