System.log coreservicesd[55]: *** process 55 exceeded 500 log message per second limit

I have a number of logs that suggest there is something not working correctly.  This error is generated on start.
coreservicesd[55]: *** process 55 exceeded 500 log message per second limit  -  remaining messages this second discarded ***
Any ideas on what might be happening?

  • 10.6.4 OD Master: slapd exceeded 500 log message per second limit

We've got here a 10.6.4 Server OD Master setup with 800 users, 12GB RAM that sometimes starts to get unresponsive. It's slapd that suddenly refuses to respond. CPU load rises to around 10-15% which is high for Intel Xserves. When this happens, our mail service can't authenticate anymore (we use communigate with an external authentication helper script that is designed to restart every 30 seconds. If we restart slapd, all is fine again for a week or so.
DNS is all fine, Kerberos and password server ok, changeip -checkhostname reports that all is ok. The server was setup from scratch with imported groups and users from a 10.5.8 od master. I've already increased the the amount of returned values of the ldap to 25000 that didn't solve the issue because we first thought the external helper script of our mail server causes the problem, but it's in fact slapd that hangs. What could trigger this behavior with a brand new Xserve with 12GB RAM, with all services configured perfectly?

  • Exceeding 500 log messages per second......!

I get the following message thousands of times in my system log, and it's really slowing my machine down -
    Sep 2 11:16:50 kelvin-wards-imac-139 sandboxd[1812]: mDNSResponder(20) deny file-read-data /private/var/db/com.apple.parentalcontrols.keychain.Ynx3Br
    Sep 2 11:16:50 kelvin-wards-imac-139 sandboxd[1812]: * process 1812 exceeded 500 log message per second limit - remaining messages this second discarded *
Any idea how to get rid of it? I've done permissions repair and disc repair and keychain repair and am not using parental controls. It's a bit faster since I deleted Intego VirusBarrier x6 which was causing MAJOR problems on my Mac and identifying the above message as a fault.

    Hello kj:
Did you completely remove the A/V software (uninstall)? That junk buries things all over the system.
I would probably reinstall OS X from the software install DVD and then run software update. As you have noted, A/V software on a Mac is a waste of resources and they frequently cause significant problems.

  • Over 500 error messages per second

Could anyone please explain why I've got hundreds of the following line in my console log -
    Mon Jul 5 17:38:18 kelvin-08e2b175 sandboxd[3383] <Notice>: mDNSResponder(20) deny file-read-data /private/var/db/com.apple.parentalcontrols.keychain.EOtHFS
    Mon Jul 5 17:38:18 kelvin-08e2b175 sandboxd[3383] <Error>: * process 3383 exceeded 500 log message per second limit - remaining messages this second discarded *
It seems to be using a lot of processing power for nothing and slowing things down.
How do I resolve? I've done a repair disk and a repair permissions and disk is less than 30% used.
    Manuy thanks! Kev

Keep Norton far away. Terrible reputation for wrecking Macs. You might try searching with EasyFind and make sure you got every last bit off.

Search using all possible names, Norton, Symantec etc. Set it to scan all files/folders and invisible files.

    Hi Judith,
The language-dependent table TSL1T contains system log messages. These
messages may occur if the syslog message does not exist in the logon
    language.
There can be several reasons for missing text: (note 46062.)
          -  The language import did not run correctly.
          -  The text was not yet translated.
          -  A kernel is used whose release is younger than the R/3 System  (downward-compatible kernel) and this kernel generates Syslog  messages that are not yet in the corresponding R/3 release.  Example: R/3 Release 4.6B with kernel 4.6D. If the Release 4.6D kernel generates a Syslog message which is not yet in Release 4.6B, no entry table TSL1T is found.
Some corruption may exist in the syslog, so you should delete it as per SAP Note 45580.
Please try to make sure you have applied the latest kernel patch to remove all the known bug.
    Also see SAP Notes:

  • Why can't I send any more than 5 TCP messages per second on an NT system?

    Help!
I am trying to send a message (approximately 50 bytes long) every 22 ms (45.4 Hz) to the only other machine on our network (the server). I am using the following function:
    Status = ClientTCPWrite(Conversation_Handle, Pointer_to_the_data, Size_of_the_data, Timeout_value);
I have tried various values (0, 1, & 10) for the Timeout value to no avail. The status always comes back saying it wrote fine (no error status). I am running this application on Windows NT 4.0. No matter what I have tried it can only muster about 5 messages per second. I think NT might be limiting me, but I'm not sure. I am updating the screen (which ought to take longer than writing the messa
ge) every time I send with a count of how many messages I have sent. This appears to be working at the proper rate (I am using a timer set to go off every 0.022 seconds to call the send). I am the administrator on this NT machine with all rights (as far as I can determine). I have tried using the SDK function SetPriorityClass to set the priority of this task to REALTIME_PRIORITY_CLASS, but the return value comes back 0, which means it was unsuccessful. I haven't explored this any further yet, but 22ms should be a long time to a computer so it ought to work without having to go to these extraordinary measures (at least that is what I think). Anybody familiar with the inner workings of NT or the TCP library PLEASE RESPOND.
    Thanks,
    Greg Filis

22ms is a long time for your computer, but I am wondering about your network. Are you 10 base or 100 base? Switch or hub? Have you tried a direct connection with a crossover cable? Just trying to spark ideas here. I use TCP all the time but only at 500 ms intervals.

  • Lots of system log messages from nsurlstoraged, also systemstatsd

I'm running Yosemite (10.10.2) on an old Mini (details below).  I am not having particular problems with slowness, crashes, etc., but I'm seeing repeated messages in the System Log which seem to be errors:
nsurlstoraged[300]: ERROR: shrinkDB - shrink of file system cache did not fully complete.  Result: 11
    systemstatsd[1286]: assertion failed: 14C1514: systemstatsd + 3283 [A886B71F-3A31-3324-9B30-5143FDF4ECCB]: 0xb
For at least the past 2 days, the systemstatsd messages have the exact same values.  When the computer is in active use, I get 2 of them every 3 to 4 minutes.
The nsurlstoraged messages are a little more frequent but don't have such a clear pattern.  Some other messages from that source which are interspersed with the above message include the following:
nsurlstoraged[1263]: realpath() returned NULL for /var/root/Library/Caches/ocspd
nsurlstoraged[1263]: The read-connection to the DB=/var/root/Library/Caches/ocspd/Cache.db is NOT valid.  Unable to determine schema version.
nsurlstoraged[1263]: ERROR: unable to determine file-system usage for FS-backed cache at /var/root/Library/Caches/ocspd/fsCachedData. Errno=13
Should I be concerned about resolving these, or can I just ignore them?  I did run the string of commands provided in the forum by Linc which are intended to reset the privileges on everything in my home directory to the default values, and I also ran the password reset process via the recovery partition to reset the ACLs.
Just a few quick notes about my system:
    - the volume My Mac system (external) is not the system or boot disk.  It has most of my image files (including iPhoto libraries) plus the iTunes Media folder.  I did not run any commands there to reset file/directory permissions.
    - the volume Macintosh HD is the system disk and contains my home directory.
    - I am planning to upgrade from to 4 GB to 8 GB RAM.
Thanks very much for any insight into these messages!

I switched over to an early 2008 20-inch iMac (booting from same external disk) and the "ERROR:shrink DB" and "assertion failed" messages are continuing, so I doubt that it is related to the hardware unless it's the external drive itself or the Firewire cable.
    Any help would be appreciated...

  • Mac starts up by itself at 1 am some nights... Can anyone help me stop this from happening based on reading my system log messages?

My Mac starts itself automatically around 1:00 am about ever other night. I don't want it to do that. I had a backup program installed once that was set to do the backup at that time, but I have long since uninstalled that program. Yet the computer still powers on automatically. I checked in the control panels and don't see it set to do that. I used the Console program to check my log, but I don't know how to read what it says. Here are the log messages from the last time the computer started itself automatically:

Can anyone help me get to the root of this problem?

    Hi Edwardo,
Perhaps there's remnants of that App you're not aware of... what was it?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for problem in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport, or some USB or Firewire device, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts (Users & Groups in later OSX versions)>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Check the System Preferences>Other Row, for 3rd party Pref Panes.
Also look in these if they exist, some are invisible...

  • What is RV042 System Log Message: PROTO 112 on ixp1?

Currently I am using a RV042 with firmware 1.3.13.02 as a basic router and not using any of the VPN features.
In the system log the follow message occurs very frequently, on average 4 times per second:
Event - Type: Connection Refused - Policy violation
    Message: PROTO 112 192.190.205.18->224.0.0.18 on ixp1
Is  this something of concern, and if it is, how should I go about  resolving it? The WAN IP address of my router is in the 192.190.205.x  range.
    Thanks.

    Hi
i think you have a device connected via your WAN  sending out VRRP framaes, and my router sees these as a policy violation.
    sounds pretty good to me.

  • Odd system.log message

I have a bunch of rules in Mail, and I recently added a new one (titled "Keep work out of Earthlink"). The rule does the following:
    if (any):
    --from contains X
    --from contains Y
    Perform:
    --Move message to mailbox Z
Soon afterwards I started noticing a lot of the following in my log:
Mail\[749\]: rejected messages (rule Keep work out of Earthlink), count 1
I have about seven other rules and none of them ever send text to the log. Does anyone know why this one sends this message, and what it means? Thanks!

    Welcome to the Forums!
Have you properly calibrated your battery recently?
That enables the OS to determine time to charge and time to discharge, and thus provide you with a low power warning.
However, it may also be a problem with the battery itself. There are known issues with some MBP batteries (due to manufacturing defects by Sony), which resulted in Apple extending the battery warranty for Core Duo machines to two years. You have a C2D, but there have been plenty of reports of battery problems with them as well.
You can check your battery health in System Profiler (Apple menu > About this Mac > More Info), click on Power. If your Full Charge Capacity is less than 4400 mAh (which is 80% of the FCC of a new 15" MBP battery), and your cycle count is less than 300, your battery is failing prematurely. If that's the case, contact AppleCare or visit an Apple Store for a (free) replacement.
    Hope this helps...
