System log info

Hi,
In which table system log entries stored?
like abap dumps =SNAP
Is there any way to restrict the system log messages to some number for example to 200?
I am running housekeeping job RSSNAPDEL for a period of two weeks reguraly I want to read the dump of 3 days before. Is it possible?
Thanks,
Sagar.

The System Log
The SAP System logs all system errors, warnings, user locks due to failed logon attempts from known users, and process messages in the system log. There are to two different types of logs created by the system log:
キ Local Logs
キ Central Logs
Use transaction SM21 to access the system log output screen. With this transaction, you can read any of the messages that are contained in the system logs. You can modify the view to meet your needs.
Local Logs
Each SAP System application server has a local log that receives all the messages output by this server. The system log records these messages in a circular file on the server. When this log file reaches the maximum permissible length, the system log overwrites it, starting over from the beginning. (The location of the local log is specified in the rslg/local/file profile parameter.)
Central Logs
We recommend that you also maintain a central log file on a selected application server. Each individual application server then sends its local log messages to this server. The server that you designate to maintain the central log collects the messages from the other application servers and writes these messages to the central log.
The central log consists of two files: the active file and the old file. (The location of the active file is specified in the rslg/central/fileprofile parameter; the location of the old file is specified in the rslg/central/old_file.)
The active file contains the current log. When it reaches the maximum size, the system performs a "log file switch". It deletes the old log file, makes the previously active file the “old” file, and creates a new active file. The switch occurs when the size of the active log file is half the value as specified in the rslg/max_diskspace/central parameter. (Note: the SAP System does not support the saving of old system log files. If you want to save old logs, then you must archive them yourself.)
If you use Windows NT or AS/400, then note the following:
Central logging is not available on the Windows NT and AS/400 platforms.
Per default, the profile parameter rslg/collect_daemon/host should be set correctly. However, if you receive warnings, then make sure that this parameter is set to NONE.
For these platforms, you can use the All remote syslogs function from transaction SM21 to read the data of all the instances in your SAP System. In the alert monitor, if you receive an alert, you can use the Remote syslog function to analyze the affected instance.
Profile Parameters and File Locations
The table below shows some of the profile parameters for the system log along with their standard values:
Profile Parameters and File Locations for the System Log
rslg/local/file
Specifies the location of the local log on the application server.
/usr/sap/<SID>/D20/
log/SLOG<SAP-instance_number>
rslg/collect_daemon/host
Specifies the application server that maintains the central log.
<hostname of main instance>
rslg/central/file
Specifies the location of the active file for the central log on the application server.
/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/
global/SLOGJ
rslg/central/old_file
Specifies the location of the old file for the central log on the application server.
/usr/sap/<SID>/SYS/
global/SLOGJO
rslg/max_diskspace_local
Specifies the maximum length of the local log.
500,000 bytes
rslg/max_diskspace_central
Specifies the maximum length of the central log.
2,000,000 bytes
Any operations on the Database would be recorded in the attribute log of the db and it would be a file on the system - usually the attribute logs are set to a particular size and if that size limit is eached , the system will hang - ask the DBA to take a back up of the log and clear the current log file and you should be good to go.
Hope this helps,
Regards
CSM Reddy

  • Mac won't stayed bound to AD - System Log info included

I have a couple of Macs that continue to somehow un-bind themselves from our AD network. It seems to happen when the machine is booted or wakes from the screensaver.
When it happens, I re-bind the machine to AD and users can log in just fine until something cause it to un-bind itself.
The System Log shows: DirectoryService[45]: Active Directory: Could not determine closest Domain Controller from Site information in directory
Now, when I bind these machines I specifically set to prefer the local domain controller and not to allow others to be used to validate against. The reason for this is that this is a remote office and connecting to any other DC could result in some latency. I'm not real sure how picky Apple AD plugin is for getting a response from a DC within a certain amount of time.
Any ideas would be much appreciated and tested! Thanks

Until an expert gets here... I'm thinking that some Macs don't do this... only a couple!?
I wonder if it couldn't be akin to this problem... an AD version of it though...
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304482
Which, btw, the exact symptoms and connection and Hardware types, are wrong in the article, it's worked for many others than the stated.
I'm not suggesting this'll work for you... just that it may be a clue for an AD way to try similar something!

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.2 can't run 'X11.app' (with system log)

Hello everyone, English is not my mother tongue so may not be exactly correct, sorry about that.
    Background:
I have a MacBook White (13-inch, Mid 2009) that isn't unibody, and was running Leopard 10.5.
I am the only one that will use the Mac and my user account is as the 'admin'.
When I was using 10.5, I could open the 'X11.app'.
But few days ago, I did a clean installation of 10.6.2 Snow Leopard from the USD$29 disc.
After that I installed the iLife '09 (the gray disc bundled with the MacBook),
and I cloned the drive to my ext. FireWire HD immediately after the installation of SL and iLife'09 by using the CCC (Carbon Copy Cloner).
After that, of course, I was going to install the apps I need, and update the software.
    _But the problem appears:_
When I try to open the 'X11.app', the X11 icon begins jumping on the Dock, but nothing happens.
Jumping and jumping... finally, it doesn't jump any more, with just the X11 icon on the dock.
What's more, there is no white dot under the icon, which means the app isn't running at the moment.
I right-clicked the icon, it shows me 'application not responding'.
So, I open the *Activity Monitor*, and I can see there are two apps related to X11 are running:
    (1) X11
    (2) X11.bin
Please see below for the system log (around 1min. log, starting with the time when I open the X11)

As I've said, I have a clone of 10.6.2 on my ext. FireWire HD.
So I've tried to boot the MacBook with the key 'option' pressed in order to boot from the clone.
What surprises me is that I can open the X11 without any problem.
And I've tried to open a new user account to test.
Even if the account isn't 'admin', the X11 can be opened too.
What this phenomenon tells me is that maybe there is an app(s) that I installed will make the X11 not open.
I've Googled the problem and tried the following methods:
    (1) Reinstall the X11 from the Snow Leopard disc.
    (2) Log in as the 'root' user, go to *System Preferences* to create a temporary account (e.g. named 'test') so that I can delete my current account (e.g. named 'User') (I copied the UUID and pasted it into TextEdit, saving it on my different partition of ext. FireWire HD.). Then I open a new account with the same username (named 'User') and paste the UUID I previously saved to the newly created account (named 'User'), and then redirect the home folder path to the original home folder (the account named 'User' that I deleted).
    (3) Create an account for testing (e.g. named 'test'), set it as admin. Then log in as the 'root' user, to use 'ditto' command in Terminal to copy my home folder to the account named 'test'. After that, I make the account for testing (account name 'test') have the permission to read and write the files by pressing 'command + I' the home folder, and then set the user 'test' having the permission to read and write and apply this to all the enclosed folder.
NONE of the above has worked.
So what can I do in order to make my X11.app work again?
    Thanks in advance!!

But you have it running in the other account. With X11 problems, this is as easy as it gets.
I hope this problem can be solved soon...
Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure you are going to have to use the Terminal.
I see, thanks for the info.! (I am new to the Mac since 2009 )
The only one that would cause any problem by being removed is ".Trash". You don't have any of the other files that Bob is talking about. It would be annoying for any heavy Terminal user to lose those dot files, but perfectly safe.
There is no need to even attempt to backup anything in /tmp.
    Thanks for the info.!
Try this. In System Preferences, select Sharing and enable "Remote Login". Login to that Standard user who can run X11 with no problem. Then, just as a test, run "ssh <mainuser>@localhost". Verify that you are in the home directory of the user with the X11 problems. Don't do anything yet. Just type 'exit' to logout.
Reboot your machine. Login as the Standard User. Run "ssh <mainuser>@localhost" again. This time, run the "rm .<somefile>" on all those dot files (except for .Trash and maybe .CFUserEncoding). This time they should all stay deleted. Follow Bob's advice too and do "rm Library/Preferences/org.x.X11.plist". Type "cd /tmp" and delete everything you can find in there. You can't do any damage there. Type "exit" to quit the ssh session.
Now logout of the standard user and log back in to your primary user and try it again.
I am now at the standard account called 'test' and browse this web page using Safari through Wi-Fi.
    4 things:
    .bash_history
    .DS_Store
    .fontconfig
    .Xauthority
    ==========
With the '.fontconfig', I can't delete it from the Terminal:
    +Michael-Leungs-MacBook:~ Michael$ rm .fontconfig+
    _+rm: .fontconfig: is a directory+_
(At this moment, I Googled the 'rm' command and found these web pages:
    http://ss64.com/osx/
    http://newsourcemedia.com/blog/basic-terminal-commands/
That's why I try the 'rmdir' and 'sudo rm'.
But NONE of these command helps)
    +Michael-Leungs-MacBook:~ Michael$ rmdir .fontconfig+
    _+rmdir: .fontconfig: Directory not empty+_
    +Michael-Leungs-MacBook:~ Michael$ sudo rm .fontconfig+
+WARNING: Improper use of the sudo command could lead to data loss+

    +Michael-Leungs-MacBook:/ Michael$ sudo rm -rf /tmp+
    Password:

So, for the steps you provided, I can follow all the steps except the one '.fontconfig'
Hope the information I provided above can help you to help me!

    (2) press return (enter)
    (3) change my home folder path to the '/Volumes/Michaels_Home/Users/Michael' (http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=Tips/relocate3/relocate3.ht ml)
    (4) restart
    (5) log in and open X11
    (6) problem solved!!
    ==========
*BUT NOW* I have a problem after:
    (1) log in as the root user, and use command +ditto -V xyz xyz+ to copy my home folder from '/Volumes/Michaels_Home/Users/Michael' to '/Users>Michael'
    (2) change my home folder path to the '/Users/Michael' (http://eshop.macsales.com/Reviews/Framework.cfm?page=Tips/relocate3/relocate3.ht ml)
    (3) use the Mac OS X Snow Leopard USD$29 disc to boot my Mac up
    (4) delete the 'Michaels_Home' partition (I had 3 partitions: (1) Macintosh HD (2) Michaels_Home (3) Windows XP Professional)
    (5) resize the 'Macintosh HD' partition
    (6) boot from Macintosh HD
    (7) find that there's a problem about X11
    _The problem:_
it takes a *long time* for X11 to start.
So, I open the *Activity Monitor*, and I can see there are 3 apps related to X11 are running:
    (1) X11
    (2) X11.bin
    (3) xauth
*At the moment now, if you would wait for about 1.5 min., X11 will open.*
Please see below for the system log (from 'FREEZING' to 'WORKING')

So what actually causes this problem?
    Thanks in advance!

It turns out that there's something wrong about permissions.
    Here's the fix:
    (1) log in as the +root user+
    (2) type +chown -R Michael:staff ~Michael+
    (3) log out the +root user+
    (4) log in your account
    (5) done!
Hope this thread will help those who encounter the same problem as me!

  • System.log check

    Hi
I just want someone with system.log skills to take a look at my file.
Lately i had some problems with a iMac and i bought a new one and when i was trying to clone back my backup from my earlier iMac
I could'n ? always been able to but not this time.
Anyway. I then started up the new iMac completely from the fresh new HD/user the new iMac had. After that i used migration assistant
to transfer all my stuff to the new iMac. Everything is there and almost working but my Mac does behave a little weird here and there.
I think i have wrong press/permissions on many thing because back in time on earlier iMacs i had. I changed them.
And now i can see a lot of new things in my system.log file i have never seen before. Things like "ApplePersistence=NO" after almost
any line. And other strange things. I know its a lot to ask and my system.log file did reload doing the night so not everything is there
anymore from what i can see. But i would be extremely happy if you would be so kind and just go rufly through it and tell me if i have
a lot of problems. If i do. I will have to start all over with a fresh Mountain Lion and build it up fresh. I haven't done that for the last 3-.4 iMacs
because i always just clones the old one to the new one but this time i could'n and i did it another way... Maybe its time to do fresh ?
The only reason i didn't do this. Is because i have tons of photoshop plugins and other photographic stuff and it takes forever to do all
    that over.
Hope you will look at it. And sorry if its a little long but i didn't know what else to do. Thanks so much.
    iMac 27" late 2013 Mac OS X 10.8.5
P.S i know the first part of the log shows a respawn every 10 sec but that was a folder permission problem i fixed !

  • Solution manager system log - strange entries

    Hi Everyone,
the problem we are facing in Solution Manager system log every five minutes appears a new error message:
2 Database error -30082 at CON
    0 > SQL30082N Security processing failed with reason "24"
    0 > ("USERNAME AND/OR PASSWORD INVALID"). SQLSTATE=08001
First of all the landscape: ECC, BI, CRM, PI and Solman. Each system is DEV, QUA, PRD - except Solution Manager.
Result of going to see the logs within work directory:
    Connect to %_DCR_XXXXX as db2dcr with DB6_DB_NAME=DCR;DB6_DB_HOST=xxxxxx;DB6_DB_SCHEMA=SAPSR3;DB6_DB_SVCENAME=5912

C  *** ERROR => DbSlConnect to 'DCR' as 'db2dcr' failed
    [dbdb6.c      1732]
Some of the systems are being connected successfully and the error messages in SM21 are not related to those systems. But some of the systems like DCR cannot be reached. And this fact causing the error messages.
I haven't configured Solution Manager because I have joined the project later. I would like to know what job is trying to access the satellite system and for what purpose.
On solution manager side I have checked all the scheduled background jobs - all of them have been executed successfully.
There some of them are scheduled but it is hard understand what is purpose of the job.
I have checked and corrected system landscape through SMSY and have maintained all the RFCs. They all OK now.
What else could force to make a connection to satellite system? And where is the place where it is hardcoded local(satellite) db2 connection entry?
Like I said before, some of the systems are being connected but some not. The one which has not been connected - there was recently changed SAP master password. I believe this is the key to resolve the problem. But the system itself operating 100% correctly.
Perhaps it could be CCMS that makes some extra connections to collect the data from the monitored systems. But I have checked all the RFC's in SM59 and they were OK.
Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance,
    Kind regards,
    Artjom.

    Kaustubh Krishna,
    thank you for respond.
It was dbacockpit. The connection was maintained with old db2sid password. And it was causing problematic log entries.
    Problem was solved.
    Points awarded.
    Thanks,
    kind regards,
    Artyom

    Gerhard

    Nigel,
While the error messages you are seeing might not be anything to worry about (you will see some of these even in the best of circumstances, but I cannot speak to yours, specifically), you shouldn't be seeing any "wonky" behavior. The fact that you are indicates that something might, indeed, be wrong.
My best advice to you would be to start with a clean slate. I just received a new machine, myself (this beautiful new 17" Powerbook), and I spent the past day doing just that: starting "clean."
What I mean by this is formatting the drive right out of the box, then reinstalling. And, not just any format, but a "zeroing" of the entire drive. This took about 45 minutes on my PB, but the process will "map out"any potential bad blocks on the drive, thereby reducing the possibility of encountering disk errors for the near future. Another good reason to reinstall yourself, even if you don't "zero" the drive, is that Apple often ends up installing the wrong version of an OS to a given machine, especially if that machine has just been released. We see many cases where a user will find, by reinstalling from the disks that come with new Mac models, that the OS is slightly different than the one that was originally installed, and that the disk-installed version works without problems. Hmmm.
Unless and until you do this yourself, you will not have a firm foundation from which to troubleshoot any problems you might be having. If, after having done this, you find that you still have problems, the next thing to look for is a bad RAM module. If you rule out a bad RAM module, only then should you consider the possibility that something is wrong with the machine, itself.

  • Oracle RAC commandeers system logging?

After installing Oracle RAC, there have been no messages or boot info in syslog and dmesg. Does RAC somehow redirect system logging?
Never mind - I found that I misconfigured syslog.conf... DOH!

  • System log contains mail errors for "mail cp:"

    Hello,
My system log is filled with this message that occurs periodically. The server seems to work okay, but I could use your guidance on what it might be?
Jan 1 03:14:58 mail cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted
I cannot seem to find what this is referring to -- has anyone else seen this?
      Mac OS X (10.4)

I've noticed the same thing on my mac!
Feb 24 03:15:03 RooneysDualG5 cp: error processing extended attributes: Operation not permitted.
Judging from the time it occurs everyday (if I leave it on all night) I believe it is the system scheduled maintenance that is generating the error (apple set our systems to clean house at this default time).
Unfortunately, that is the extent of my knowledge, and I too would like to resolve this issue because I'm worried that something is preventing the system from EVER doing it's maintenance, now whether that error means nothing is getting done, or only one process is stopped up, I don't know!
I would think regular maintenance would be especially critical for your mail server, so I hope someone answers us quick!
I just found this info in my console: /var/log/daily.out –

Here it lists my disks, and everything gets boring after that...
But I think this means that some of the maintenance is getting done!

  • Slow I/O, System.log errors for XSR

    Hello,
Got a strange problem. For the past few weeks we have been experiencing outstandingly slow I/O from our Xserve G5 to our Xserve RAID. The box periodically reboots itself (no info in system.log re: it), and we consistently see (while doing i/o ops) this error in system.log:
    Nov 28 07:28:44 xserve kernel: FusionMPT: FindTaskForControllerIdentifier() failed, targetID = 256, context = 0x4a
    Nov 28 07:29:15 xserve kernel: FusionMPT: FindTaskForControllerIdentifier() failed, targetID = 256, context = 0x2a

    Nov 28 07:46:22 xserve kernel: FusionMPT: FindTaskForControllerIdentifier() failed, targetID = 256, context = 0x37
The box is Mac OS X Server 10.3.9 with 2 disks as a software RAID -- they appear fine and are humming along just fine. The XSR has 7 disks in a RAID 5 (1.4 TB) and a reformat has not resolved the issues.
Has anyone had this issue before, or have a clue what it may be?

    RAID firmware is?

  • System logs

    Hi
I have a Solaris zone running Postfix SMTP server. I am having a problem checking mail logs. I want to log all mail related messages to /var/log/maillog as defined in syslog.conf, then after i want to create a central logging for all the servers to have a central point of control.
I added this line in /etc/syslog.conf
    mail.debug /var/log/maillog
    I restarted:
    # svcadm restart svc:/system/system-log:default
I then send a mail from my laptop running solaris, using that server as SMTP server.
After that i view /var/log/mailog and is empty.
I expect to see some info in this file. Can anyone tell me what i am doing wrong?

It could be caused by mail.debug being specified twice in your syslog.conf, one as a pointer to /var/log/maillog and one in an ifdef().
Further more, in the old days the record had to be tab separated, so it would have to be:
    mail.debug<tab>/var/log/maillo
..but i'm uncertain if that still applies. Could be worth a try though.
Also, double check that the filename (/var/log/maillog) actually exists and isn't misspelled..

  • Since Prelude doesn't work with Red footage, how can I add logging info to a file in Premiere Pro

Since Prelude doesn't work with Red footage, how can I add logging info to a file in Premiere Pro CS6?

RED footage has a restriction on metadata.  We are looking into what it would take to get full metadata support into our system, but you cannot tag red footage at this time.

  • System.log file super bloat!

Tonight my hard disk suddenly started filling rapidly on it's own and I traced the problem down to an amazingly fast growing system.log file. It appeared to be corrupt because the Console app didn't see it when I tried to read it there to see what was filling it. It got up to 6GB!
I pulled the file out of there and things seem okay (I still have it in visible form on another drive). Is is at problem that now my OS X drive has no system.log file? Will it create one on it's own eventually? Is there some way for me to replace it?
Any ideas why it would have done that?
    Thanks for any education!

Hi Tenfresh, you don't list your system specs so it's hard to tell but this may have been your issue:

Yes, the system.log will recreate, if it hasn't done so already.
