System Migration when add a SSD
Recently, I purchased a SSD to improve the reading speed of my computer.
I am going to migrate the system from the HDD to the SSD directly without reinstalling the OS.
I have tried several different softwares, like the Acronis True Image, or the EASEUS TODO.
However, no one works. After the clone of the software, I can not start my OS from SSD.
I really do not want to reinstall the OS because of data and other softwares.
Is there any way I can do the migration? Or reinstall my t440p without lossing any data?
Thanks

Hi, zhou2286
you didn't specify current OS and entire list of partitions.
Partitions on your system look unproper for Lenovo preloaded, neither for win7 nor win8. Compare with the pages below:
http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/ht077144
http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-3000-and-Essential/New-G580-has-seven-partitions-Help-identify/m-...
I'd assumed there is a mix of fresh win8 installation over Lenovo preloaded win7 w/o (!) old OS partition removing. The most disadvantage of the current partioning is the size of System_DRV partition (it means it's useless), its type (should be NTFS), winre_drv size looks a bit strange as wel the size of unlabeled partitions etc.
In order to clone primary HDD to the SSD I'd suggested:
- insert SSD to the external USB box or 2nd drive bay (if you have that one)
- install cloning sw on the HDD
- boot from the HDD
- launch cloning sw and perform the cloning entire (!!!) disk, not partitions one-by-one. It means boot records and partotion table will be cloned correctly. Keep the size of partitions before Windows7/8 partition as they are and resize the rest partitions in proportion
- after process will be finished, exchange the drives, boot from SSD, remove/resize partitions and launch Lenovo R&R if OS is win7.
Nevertheless, partioning for preloaded win7 looks useless. So, you should decide what to do: sort out partitions or refresh/reset the OS.
Note I cloned drives several times, HDD 320 gb to msata SSD120 gb including w/o issues, fresh and preloaded.

How to use the system recovery after add another SSD?
Dear all,
I got a Zbook14 with 1TB HDD with Windows 7 in default. Soon after I received it, I added an M.2 256Gb SSD and migrated my system drive to the SSD.
After an malfunction of the HP Client Security that encrypted my system drive (in SSD). I used the HP recovery tool to reset the computer into the default factory status... This action, which I can not select the harddrive during the recovery, wiped my oroginal system paratation (now the data drive) in the 1TB HDD, and thus I have to migrate the system again (not mentioning the data in that partation..).
I wonder if I can change the target drive for the recovery? I did not move the original HP partations from the HDD to SSD. Only the system partation is moved to SSD.
Thanks. You don't have any option in terms of changing the target drive for an HP recovery performed by the HP recovery manager.
It is scripted and there is nothing that you as the user can change other than selecting the type of recovery desired.

Hi,
Yes, you can add it. A 160GB ssd is listed as compatible but I think that the capacity is not limited.
What I did when I replaced my hdd by a ssd was to perform a fresh install of Windows (the same version) using the product number (don't register Windows online!) at the bottom of the laptop. Then I waited for a message for registering the OS and registered it over phone. Perhaps a minimized image recovery created in HP recovery manager might restore the original system on a solid state drive. These are usually smaller than the original hard drives and the recovery process ends up with an error with the original image recovery disks.
edit: You will need a bracket (in case that you want to keep the old hdd in the secondary hdd bay) etc so the right part number is: 681976-001. Run the part number on google or ebay to get it.

After migration from HDD to SSD, thumbnails in iPhoto are missing
Dear Apple-community,
I migrated my system a week ago. I added a SSD to the HDD which is now in an optibay. After adding the SSD I installed Lion from new on the SSD, migrated all programms etc. from the HDD and left only the user-folders on the HDD.
After repairing the rights and linking the user-folders to the system again, I was able to use everything, beside iPhoto.
in iPhoto the thumbnails don't show up. The categories are there, the pictures also, just I don't see them, just black or grey fields. I tried all the options offered by the menu, that appears when you start with cmd-shift. Now I need new solutions, that could help me get back my thumbnails!
Thanks a lot for your help!I think I would have find the files on the internal HDD after the migration (eventhough they should be visible in Finder after the migration, don't they?) if there were there, even hidden.
I thought they dissappeared, because I made one mistake in following the instructions for the migration of the system to the added internal SSD (keeping user files on the internal HDD): I had to migrate everything but the content of the user folders from time machine to the SSD, but I migrated from my user folder on the internal HDD to the SSD. I had to migrate only the users, not the content of the user-folder. In the end, all this content was deleted from the HDD I migrated the users from.
Anyway, now all this old files on the internal HDD are deleted, because I restored my user-folder from time machine (external HDD) (because there was no folder visible anymore), so I could start the system again with my used options stored in the user-folder. Afterwards time machine started and deleted the old copys on the external harddrive.

I would like to add a ssd to my pavilion dv7
Hey
I own a pavilion dv7 4050eb, and I'm looking to add a ssd.
There are 2 compartments to place a hard drive in my notebook, one is currently used and the second one is empty.
So I thought there wouldn't be a problem.
But when I went to my local specialized computer store (where I bought this notebook), they told me I won't work if the bracket and connection cable for a second hard drive weren't included with my notebook (which is te case) because they can't get those from HP, no matter how hard they try.
Is there realy no way HP can supply these simple parts (bracket and cable)?
And if I could get those, would there be any problems whith installing a ssd in this specific notebook?
Thanks in advance.
This question was solved.
View Solution.Hi,
Yes you can add a second HDD or a SSD to the second slot/bay on your machine. You need a caddy cable to go with it. Please watch these videos:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kZ4irwlyEY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EZgiX-pzdL8
(and many more)
And the caddy is something like this:

Mac Mini Mid 2011 General system slowdown when transferring files?
Hi i have a stock mac mini mid 2011, 2.5ghz i5, 4gb ram, 500gb HDD os 10.7.1 and i've noticed a general system slowdown when transferring files on 10.7 and the last 10.7.1 update ( from usb to hdd, another computer on my local network to the mini, external dvd to the mini, etc).
I could describe the slowdown as mouse pointer movement suffers, its "laggy", application take longer to start, even menus in them from appearing, writting something on the keyboard i have to wait like 5 - 10 seconds so the words start appearing in the app (i.e. textedit).
I wanted to know if any other new mac mini owner has had this issue and if there is any solution to this(that would not involve buying a SSD for example)?
Im not really sure if this is a hardware or system issue but it really is getting on my nerves(i know i could just wait for the files to transfer which is what i do now but i dont think that should be), since i also have a old macbook from 2007 2.0ghz c2d, 2gb ram, 250gb HDD os 10.6.8 and have never had this problem before.
Thanks in advanced.
Let me know if i need to give more info on this subject.
Edit: I forgot to mention, the funny thing is doing a time machine backup to my external HDD or transferring files from my HDD to a usb doesnt give me any kind of slowdown.Hi Rick, I'd see if it's reated to this, which has many symptoms...
Try this: "sudo pmset autopoweroff 0" and "sudo pmset standby 0"

I just bought a 27" iMac a couple of months ago. Specifications: 16BG RAM, 2TB HDD, 2GB VRAM. Can I pay Apple to add a 256GB (Which is the highest Apple allows) SSD for me? I would like to dual boot Windows 7/8 on it so I can play games when I'm bored (Skyrim). Despite what I've been told I have done my research and partitioning a dual boot HDD does NOT slow it down if done correctly and in some cases can be faster than having two separate HD's in it. I would like to move OS X to the SSD and add Windows to my HDD with all the other content from my OS X on it (I know this is a complex layout). I don’t care about semantics I just want to know will Apple add an SSD for me if I pay them to do so.
Call someplace near you and see what they can do, double-checking it won't void any warranty.

Windows 8.1 refuses to shut off System Restore when I tell it to do so
This problem is driving me crazy! Windows 8.1 will not let me turn off System Restore.
My OS and programs are on a solid state drive. I realized the other day that I only had 8 GB of space left...even though I had not done any other installations. I discovered it was because the System Restore feature was taking up 50% of my drive (about 60 GB).
I have other ways to back-up my system...so I want to simply turn off the feature. The OS lets me turn it off for the two other drives on my system, but when I turn it off on the "C" drive, it says that it's disabled...but it then continues to dump
backup files and drain hard drive space. If I leave it "on" and try to adjust the "max usage" for the feature in order to limit how much it uses on the SSD, it simply ignores my request and reverts back to the 50% default later on...sometimes
right away and sometimes a little bit later.
Most recently, I tried setting the maximum usage to roughly 6 GB. The setting was used successfully for a few days..but then all of a sudden, it popped back to the 50% allocation allowance. I'm thinking it did it as a response to hitting the 6 GB max in the
course of its work.
I don't know what else to do. If the feature is disabled, why is it still dumping files and taking up space? Why can't I completely turn it off like it will allow me to on the other drives?
Thank you for your help!Hi,
You could use T. Kujala's method to clear the system restore point.
And then use group policy to disable the system restore function:
1. Click WIN+R key.
2. Type gpedit.msc to run box.
3. Navigate to
Computer configuraton>administrative templates>system>System restore
find
Turn System Restore Off
Enable it.

I want to add an SSD to my Mac Pro. My startup disk is 222Gbs. I have 20Gbs of RAM. All my Project and Event files are stored on a separate disk. How big a SSD do I need to get so that FCPX will not be impacted? Thanks.
.Depends.
Size of the SSD
What you expect to achieve
What you have now
For $145 Intel SSD 330 120GB will get you into SSD
You should shop and research brands but most any model today is fine, I think most issues with firmware and compatibility are behind us.
For $150 you could also get 200MB/sec WD 10K VR 250GB SATA3/6G 64MB Cache / $200 for 500GB model, or 1.5TB WD Black
Too small and the write speed is not going to be any better than a mechanical drive in most cases.
10K and you have 3.4ms seeks, 7.2k drives and that is 8-12ms. SSD and 0.1ms
The OS does do a lot of small random I/Os and constant seeks - both to system and also to user home library - so I keep my library on SSD and put everything else on another drive.
SSD + 10K VR + 2TB WD Black is a win-win for most.

Use WLC's service interface IP when add WLC into WCS
Hi All,
Does anybody know if there's any limitations or bugs to use WLC's service interface IP when add WLC into WCS?
Another question is I remember there's a post previously says that there are a bug regarding to ARP if the WLC not using LAG but connect one port to one switch, connect another port to another switch, so that's why it is strongly suggested to use LAG, but I can't find it now, anybody know it? Thanks! The service port is controlled by the service-port interface and is reserved for out-of-band management of the controller and system recovery and maintenance in the event of a network failure. It is also the only port that is active when the controller is in boot mode. The service port is not capable of carrying 802.1Q tags, so it must be connected to an access port on the neighbor switch.
If the service port is in use, the management interface must be on a different supernet from the service-port interface.
The service-port interface controls communications through and is statically mapped by the system to the service port. It must have an IP address on a different supernet from the management, AP-manager, and any dynamic interfaces, and it cannot be mapped to a backup port. This configuration enables you to manage the controller directly or through a dedicated operating system network, such as 10.1.2.x, which can ensure service access during network downtime.
The service port can obtain an IP address using DHCP, or it can be assigned a static IP address, but a default gateway cannot be assigned to the service-port interface. Static routes can be defined through the controller for remote network access to the service port. -

The error "No matching records found (ODBC -2028)" can mean any property's value are invalid.
Do you get more detailed error like
"No matching record found 'G/L Accounts' [ODBC 2028]" ?
If you suspect the issue is due to the DocEntry is incorrect, then you can try
1. use DocNum
oPayment.Invoices.DocEntry = oInv.DocNum
2. check the value of DocNum after the invoice added, then assign the value to oPayment.Invoices.DocEntry.

How to add a SSD to 2010 iMac with 1tb drive
How to add a SSD to 2010 iMac with 1tb drive? I have a mid-2010 iMac with 1tb HD and would like to either replace the HD with SSD -or- add 256 or 400gb SSD to maybe the Optical Drive and use it as the boot drive. Is this possible with Model 11,2? i thought i\I'd read it was, but recently am reading my system is too old - OWC have SSD drives for newer models not Model 11,1 -or- 11,2
Any SATA SSD will work, whatever you are reading is incorrect.
You have 2 choices with this model-install the SSD in place of the HDD or the Superdrive.
If you are installing in place of Superdrive you will need some form of SSD Caddy-these can be found on the cheap at places like eBay, also OWC sell one called the DataDoubler.
Guide:https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iMac+Intel+21.5-Inch+EMC+2389+Dual+Hard+ Drive/8643
If installing in place of old HDD you will notice that the propietary Temperature Sensor will not fit on the new drive, you will need to replace this with a sensor such as this or this
You will also need a 3.5inch to 2.5inch drive adaptor such as this
Guide: https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iMac+Intel+21.5-Inch+EMC+2389+Hard+Drive+Replacemen t/6284
If you still have doubts contact OWC as mentioned above, I would start deciding whether your Superdive is needed or if you want to swap out the HDD.
Hope this points you in the right direction
