System migration

I have three Power Mac's connnected to a Raid thru FibreChannel/PCI cards all with Xsan 1.1. The Mac OS versions are as follows
Meta Controller: 10.4.6/dual 2 ghz powerpc G5/512 mb
Edit 1: 10.4.11/dual 2.5 ghz power pc G5/8 Gb
Edit 2: 10.4.11/4x2.5ghz powerpc G5/12 Gb
I need to go to Mac Version 10.5.6 in order to upgrade to Motion 4. If I do this, will my PCI cards/Xsan 1.1 be adversely affected? Also, since i haven't upgraded this system in a while, what can I update to optimize performance?
Thanks

"can i move the operating system from the old drive to the new with out having to do the installation from scratch?"
Yes. Use Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper to clone the old drive to the new one.

  • System Migration Check up

    Hi Friends,
We have planned to migrated our Production systems to a different hardware. Operating system and Database remains the same. Does SAP provides any Check on the system after this homogenous system migration ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,

    Hi,
If you have got Enterprise Support from SAP, you are eligible to get some feedback on the migration process and post migration tuning. For this you may need to raise an OSS message to SAP support.
    Hope this helps.

  • Reconfiguring CHARM after System Migration

    Hi,
We are going to migrate our existing Solman system to another system using system refresh, we have implemented CHARM which takes care of the Transport for our ECC and Portal Systems, my question is what needs to be done in the newly migrated system after the system refresh and what changes we need to make in our ECC System in order for CHARM to work in the newly migrated system.
    Our landscape info
We have DEV,QA and Prod in our existing landscape with charm is configured in the Solman. Our Prod is the main domain controller and solman is the secondary domain controller, can some one explain me what needs to be done in the configuration after the system migration.

    Hi,
Only hostname/ipaddress and SID name will be changed for solution manager. So for solution manager back RFC in ECC and EP systems you need to change hostname/ipaddress and instance number.
From SMSY try to update/read ECC and EP systems data. Check it is working fine or not.

  • System Migration Assistant

I have previously used SMA to migrate settings to new lenovo laptops, it it still available and if so where can i find it? I have to migrate some users to new lenovo thinkpad Edge Win 7 machines.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

System Migration Assistant (SMA) was withdrawn at the end of 2013.  See  http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?DocID=HT080684
Looks like the support website hasn't been totally cleaned up and still has an old version.  I don't recommend using it.

  • System Migration - Snow Leopard

I have a Mac Pro and iMac, both running Snow Leopard.  I want to use System Migration to transfer my Mac Pro Data over to my iMac.  I was planning to do a reformat of the iMac drive and do a fresh install of Snow Leopard.  It appears my Snow Leopard disc is bad.  The original Leopard disc that came with the iMac works and would allow me to do a fresh install of Leopard.
Could I then do a migration using firewire, setting the Mac Pro (Snow Leopard) as the source and the iMac with the fresh install of Leopard as the target?  Would this allow me to move Snow Leopard and all my applications over to the iMac?  I did the exact opposite when I bought the Mac Pro and things went perfectly, but they both were running Snow Leopard.
Would I need to deauthorize the iMac from iTunes before I do this and does that mean I have to be connected to the internet during the deauthorization?
    Thanks

  • System Migration Agent

    Hi,
I updated recently with system update and shortly after the system migration agent box started having a canary. At random albeit regular (2 out of three times) when I click on a desktop icon or try to perform a funtion like delete on an item the system migration box appears and starts having a coronary. Is there anybody with a fix for this.
Thanksing you in advance for your help.
    Solved!

Removed the system migration agent. It seems the last update of thinkw vantage software has corrupted a couple fo its component parts and I have had to remove them.

  • System Migration HELP!!! anyone? anyone?

So i have a g4 tower running 10.4.xx and i want to use system migration to pull all the info onto my new macbook pro running leopard. not a problem normally but the firewire ports on my G4 are dead! so i can't boot and hook it up in target mode.
Is there an easy way to still use system migration without firewire? i was thinking share the whole drive on the G4 mount it on the desktop of my new system and run system migration and select the mounted drive. would this work?
anyone with info would rock and i will thank you forever.. ok maybe just thank you but i will totally appreciate it!
    cheers,
    jess

Migration from a G4 to a MacBook Pro requires careful considartion. Many doing such a migration have difficulty with the Migration Assistant. See this user tip:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=435350&tstart=0
As for repairing your Firewire ports, make sure you have a current clock battery. That's a simple 3.6V 1/2 AA battery from Radio Shack, catalog item 23-026. That may fix it. If it doesn't you can sometimes take a can of compressed air to the ports themselves. If that doesn't work, do as scb suggests. Make sure they are 6 pin firewire, and not 4 pin.
http://www.xlr8yourmac.com/ should list some Firewire PCI cards which support Target Disk Mode. Google is your friend!

  • X61 since last update: System Migration Manager comes up with right click...

    Hi there,
since my last update with the Lenovo-Tool "System-Update" - everytime I do a "right button click" on my mouse, the System Migration Manager is coming up. Uhh - this makes me nervous. Any ideas to help me?

    Hello & welcome!
No worries, you did great for a 1st post, & this is generally a friendly place.
It sounds light it's the Mouse button from here, to test it...
Go to System Preferences > Mouse, change the Primary button to the Right button... does the Right button ever do that now as the left button?

  • Time machine after system migration

Recently my iMac (running 10.5.8) was stolen. Bought a new laptop (running 10.6) and restored my system from Time Machine. Worked perfectly! Problems started when I wanted to continue the backups from the new computer. First time I tried it after 7 hours it was stuck at 12% (when system restore took 2-3 hours). Other times I tried it it got stuck at the stage of "calculating changes". I tried changing the name of the computer to start a completely new set of backups. That didn't work either. I'm thinking of erasing the external drive (Iomega 1.5T, out of which 1.25 T is free) and starting over again. Any suggestions? How can I force Time Machine to start a new set of backups and leave the old ones alone?
PS1. How can I delete an *inProgress file? Standard delete doesn't work
PS2. Latest Time Machine Buddy output:

OK, I got a new drive and started anew. I have about 250GB to copy. Although it starts very well (about 1 GB/min) after a few hours it becomes so slow that it's unworkable. After six hours it's stuck at 214.73 GB. This being the case, I will have to stop using Time Machine. I'll just occasionally copy the folders I need.
    Here's TM buddy output:

OK, I may have a large number of small files, but why should that be a problem? And why do I have this problem on the laptop when TM worked fine on my old iMac? Does the detection of system migration make a difference?

  • Security problem: Could someone have used system migration without my Knowledge?e

I found a log file on my Mac that was marked SystemMigration.log, which seemed to indicate that a system migration had been carried out. I understand that the system migration tool is used to transfer information between Macs, but I only have one machine and to my certain knowledge I have never carried out a system migration. My Mac has been hacked in the past and I'm suspicious that someone might be using it remotely. Is this possible and if so what can I do about it?

September 17, 2012, Linc. It opens with 'Starting System Migration' at 17.55 and the first line says 'Disabling Time Machine during migration' and runs through various actions like ' Found disk (diskIdentifier=disk3, mountpoint=(null), isInternal=1, filesystem=(null))' and 'External Volume Appeared : [/Volumes/iWork '09 Install DVD] (W_NOT_SCANNED) (IS_Internal) (IS_Mountable) (Mounted) (disk3s3)'.
It ends at 22.15 with the message'Restoring Time Machine setup'

  • IPods won't mount since system migration

I recently did a system migration using the migration assistant from my old 24" imac to a new 27" imac, both running the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have two ipod touches and neither one will now mount on the new mac. They don't show up in iTunes or in disk utility. They mounted on the old one so I know the issue is with the mac itself.
They appear to receive power from the connector but cannot communicate with the mac. Other peripherals work on the same port.
    Any suggestions?

    Hello bercg,
I'm sure you tried plugging them into different USB ports and using different USB cables? Have you tried resetting either iPod with it connected to your iMac?
Otherwise, work through each troubleshooting procedure described in this Apple support document as necessary.

  • Slow urxvt launching after system migration

    Hi everyone!
I've just migrated my arch system to a new computer (I kept my home partition and backed up pacman's cache and /etc as well as a list of packages installed). I manually installed the main packages needed to set up my system, I didn't re install secondary software yet. However I'm having trouble with urxvt, it takes a few seconds to launch whereas before the migration it would just inmediatly appear. I'm using my old .bashrc and .Xresources, so the configuration is the same as before, also Xterm for example has no problem so it appears to be no problem with .bashrc... Based on what I've read it could be due to font loading, however I have no idea what my previous font configuration actually means:
    URxvt.font: -misc-fixed-medium-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso8859-1
    URxvt.boldFont: -misc-fixed-bold-r-normal--15-140-75-75-c-90-iso8859-1
I must have copied that from some example or something and I don't know what it actually does...
Nevertheless, if I comment that out from .Xresources, it changes the font used, but it still takes a few seconds to load...
Anyway, any help is apreciatted, just for reference my .bashrc and .Xresources:
