System Not Automounting CDROM

Hello, my SunFire 240r Solaris 8 server is not automounting CD's. I have tried manually umount\mount commands wihtout success. I cannot get the system to access CD's at all.
How can I fix this?
Thanks!

If mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/dsk/c0t6d0s0 /cdrom doesn't work then your CD drive may be defective. I'm not sure of your exact cxtx number because I'm familiar with a 220r, 280r, 420r, 480r & D240 media tray but I'm not quite sure what 240r is. Must be something new.

My laptop hp pavilion dv6000 [dv6815ee], the cdrom is 'PIONEMR DVDRW'
I don't know exactly when this problem start, its from long time might 1.5 years,
i didn't try to solve the problem because i didn't have time in that time, i use
the default operation system that laptop come with[vista (86,32)],and i was
installed TrueCrypt,Ext2Fsd, also DAEMON TOOLS, MagicDisc I used them to create
virtual drive. I think the problem come after i played with these programs like
forced the virtual drive letter from disk management (from windows) to set
different letter (i think these did conflict to the programs, to the system, may
to the bios and may also between these programs daemon tools,MagicDisc,TrueCrypt,
Ext2Fsd[i use it to show my other partion ext2, i set the ext2fsd to permently
show the partions but sometimes not work well and cause hang in the system) ,also
uninstall these virtual drive from device manage, .....
first i was see my cdrom in computer with question mark i was not able to use it,
i guess the problem in that time by these programs because i played with them
settings.i created maximum virtual drive that  these programs can created then i
saw the icon come normal without the question mark and i can use it normal, after
restart the problem it back,i used this method [removed virtual drive and created]
and i sucess use my cdrom,i tried solve the problem when i need it and have time,
but after it use this method three or four time it not work.
sometimes when i close the screen[the system go in sleep mode], after i open the
screen the system recognize cdrom[the cdrom after open screen go read the cd if
    there].
the strange thing also i cannot boot from cdrom, i tried to change the cdrom to
check if the cdrom not work, same thing the system not recognize cdrom or show any
message occurred as a result of put different cdrom. I put my cdrom in different
laptop [same model] and it works fine.
i read in internet diffrenet cases about cdrom not recognize and cheacked many
thing like delete some keys from regestry and use programs like Mats_Run from
microsoft and programs like 'VSO Inspector',Alcohol,Nero. also i tried uninstall
Protections from the cdrom i installed different versions of SPTD
'SCSI Pass Through Direct','daemon tools'. i uninstall cdrom drive from device
manager and tried scan for new hardware, also uninstall ata/atapi controls,i reset
the DMA status of all ATA drives, delete atapi.sys, nothing work well.
I used recovery manager to restore the system to the factory default state to check if
the problem from the system, nothing happen, so i tried this time recovery without
put cdrom in the laptop after finish recovery i put the cdrom, its recognized, after
some days i played sound cd after some 2 or 3 tracks suddenly the cdrom disappear,
after that i repeated also recovery without the cdrom after that put cdrom but this
    time not recognize.
I tried many thing to understand and solve the problem, i upgraded the bios before
the problem occured, i taked backup, i restore it after the problem occure, i return
upgraded to latest version. i modify settings in files[PHLASH.INI, PHLASH.AUT,
PHLASH.NOR] from HideAll=1 to HideAll=0 to show the advance options in Winphlash after
i tried options there but nothing solve the problem,
i think may the problem its related with bios specially with DMI.
[after i put different cdrom the bios in list of ordering boot i get exclamation mark
before the cdrom when the cdrom option enable, in orginaly cdrom no icons get when
enable or disable or also remove the cdrom and run the laptop without cdrom.]
i also removed the battery ant RTC battery and waited some minutes nothing happend
also the result of the log of test memory and harddisk not earsed. i tried do hard
    reset but i failed
I used linux[by usb],but it's also cannot recognize the cdrom then i create dos to
boot from usb it's also cannot recognize i tried many dos drive, some of them cannot
recognize cdrom at all, others give me loop of errors and sometime hang. i tried many
programs in dos, i found program which recongize the cdrom, it show me informations
about cdrom like Model number,Serial number,Firmware revision,Peripheral device type,
Protocol type for device,Command packet size. atacd203
im sure the all cicuits of motherboard work fine but there some wrong.
i have some records of my tried in atacd203

i get some  hope to solve the problem after i saw the Announcements of ask Expert day

I believe the problems is not with the hard drive or the CD/DVD ROM, but what is on the hard drive that is keeping the OS from recognizing the ROM.
If I am reading the posts correctly I think you have tried enabling the CD/DVD -ROM in the BIOS. Is that correct ?
Use Partition Wizard to delete and merge any partitions that were not shipped with the laptop. With Vista there should be recovery and the OS partition and nothing else. Other partitions containing additional OS's can cause Vista not to recognize the CD drive.
      http://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
Ounce you have cleaned up the hard drive, if the CD drive is still not recognized, try reinstalling the drivers for the CD/DVD ROM in the device manager.
If that does not work, try performing another system restore with the recovery partition, maybe with the hard drive cleaned up with Partition Wizard it will reinstall Vista correctly to recognize the CD drive.
Another thing to do is to create a system recovery loaded on a USB flash drive. Your specific model was not coming up with the info. you have given so here is the instructions for a dv6000 cto. They are the same.
     http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01890478&tmp_task=useCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=u...
Still another option is to remove the hard drive and connect it to another computer through USB and delete everything on the hard drive and create unallocated space. Reinstall it back into the laptop and with nothing on the hard drive the BIOS may recognize that you can boot from the CD/DVD ROM drive. With that you will be able to recover your system back to Vista and of course you will have to order some recovery disk's from HP.
Any of the above procedures are experimental and I can not guarantee if they will work, they may make things worse.

  • [SOLVED] My usb drives will not automount

    Hi!
I've installed a basic Arch system using XFCE4.
My USB disks and stick will not automount when I insert them. I have added myself to the usual groups.
    Manual mounting works however...
    What could be the issue?

  • HAL is not automounting

I have hal in my daemons array in rc.conf and it starts up properly but when I connect a device to my system, HAL does not automount it. what is the problem?

    chicha wrote:

But it does not mount anything for you. The mounting is under your Desktop Environment responsibility. You have to enable the "automount" functionality in the Desktop Environment you use.
As long as I do not know E17 I cannot help you.
Did you search for "E17 automounting" with you favorite web search engine ? In this forum ?
I solved it with autofs, it isn't much elegant but it works to some degree. So i'll make this my goal for the time, i have more free time.

  • USB media is not automounted

Hello, I have a problem. I loggin into KDE or GNOME as a root to secure that I don't have group problems. On the both Desktops, USB storage devices are not automounted for a few days (maybe 1-2 weeks).
Why? What's the matter and how can I solved it? My system is fully up2date.

  • Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original location - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it

Why does the new operating system not delete the moved files from their original locations - it seems like an enormous waste of space, time and effort to clean up every file once you've moved it - also, when transferring large amounts of files it becomes a very large problem remembering which files were transferred and which not.

You're going to need to be more specific, as I'm not quite sure I understand what you're talking about.
If you're referring to copying from an external hard drive or flash drive, and you want to actually move files rather than copy them, you can hold down the option key to force it to do a "move" rather than a "copy." This is not new behavior, though... the Mac OS has worked this way as long as I can recall (and I've been using it since 1984).
If you're having a problem with trying to move files from one place to another on a single drive causing them to be copied instead, that is likely because of some permissions issue preventing you from actually being able to move them.

  • I am using laptop hitting and slow system not working

i am using laptop hitting and slow system not working and very late opan file browser every think . plez help me

    Hi,
Shut down the notebook.  Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to enter the Start-up Menu.  Select the Bios option ( usually f10 ) and under the Advanced or Diagnostic tab you should find the facility to run tests on both the Hard Drive and Memory.  Post back with the details of any error messages.
Note:  If the option to run these tests is not available in the Bios Menu, use the f2 diagnostic menu instead.
Can you also post back with the following details.
    1.  The full Model No. and Product No. of your notebook - see Here for a guide on locating this information.
    2.  The full version of the operating system you are using ( ie Windows 7 64bit ).

  • HP Pavilion dv6500 Entertainment Notebook PC series Operating system not found

Hello to all how are you doing guys doing today I'm having a problem and need the help from the tech world. So i have a Hp Pavilion dv6500 cto notebook. I started it up and got a black screen stating "Operating System Not Found". I couldnt get into safe mode to recover back to a safe point, i was able to get into the bios system to do a memory and Hard drive test, my memory test came back as a Pass but my Hard drive came back as a fail and stated "Replace Hard Drive".
Now i went out bought a new WD 500GB 5400rpm hard drive for the laptop, i installed it and did a Hard Drive test to make sure it was good and the test came back as a Pass.  Now i had this laptop for years since 2007 and it broke just a few months ago, i just got the new hard drive yestarday and was playing doctor last night. When i got the laptop as a gift i was only given a recovery disk which did boot up and gave me the install now option and repair computer option. I chose the install now option and it was starting to install but then got this error message "Windows cannot open the required file D:\Sources\Install.wim. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002." I read that you cant install windows from a recovery disk so now im back to square one.
So current status is I got a new hard drive that pass the bios test, memory test was a pass. I have no windows disk other then the windows vista recovery disk i tried but failed to install windows. I also tried a windows 7 disk from work but the disk wouldnt boot up came back with a message stating that disk couldnt be read there may be problem with the cd dvd drive or hard drive, but when i put in the windows vista recovery disk that boot up no problem. i just cant install window with it. So Im stuck with a black screen stating no operating system is not found. Note that i havent change the boot up line up back to hard drive to see if it would boot up the new hard drive but i dought it would change anything since its a brand new hard drive with nothing on it.
If someone could help me with step by step like how to get an operating system on my new hard drive. My wife has a laptop but with no cd drive so i would need instruction to boot get it on the usb. Hope i was helpful with my problem.

You have only tried questionable disks. You could order a recovery disk from HP but I am not even sure they still have Vista recovery disks. You could also buy a Windows 7 OEM disk and try that. it will cost you a bit but will be legal. What version of Vista is it? You can also try to find a Vista install disk and use the Key Code on the bottom of the laptop if it is still legible. Here is a link to downloadable .iso files you can use to make a Vista install disk that will activate with your Key Code:

  • HP DV6700 Operating System Not Found- How Can I Access & Back Up Files?

    1. HP Pavillon DV6700 -> old yes, I know
    2. Operating System: Vista
    3. Black Screen -> Err2Err3 Operating System Not Found
I ran the Primary Hard Drive Self Test > Hard Disk Self Test and it was a quick test. After it finished it came back with "#10009- Replace Hard Disk"
My question is: I've been tring to make this laptop last for as long as possible (obviously considering I was still using Vista). I plan to trash this laptop, but I need to know somehow, some way to access my files. There are pictures and essays that I absolutely need and I didn't do any back up in the last 2 months.
    Please any suggestions!

Yes use a usb to SATA adapter:
    http://www.amazon.com/Patuoxun-Converter-Adapter-Cable-Drive/dp/B008ASF5MC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=13...
That one is very inexpensive on amazon.com. Connect the SATA hard drive to the adapter (after removing the drive from the laptop) and plug the usb connectors into two usb ports on any other computer running XP or greater. The laptop drive will (if you are lucky) mount as a lettered drive on the host computer and you can copy and paste files off the drive with Windows Explorer file browser.

  • While updating my iphone, I am receiving a notice that itunes is not available.  Is system not avaialbe and should I just try later?

while updating my iphone, i recevied a message that iTunes was not availabel and to try later.  Is the system not available or is there something wrong with my computer

    Hey csumner1,
Thanks for the question. I understand you are receiving a "Not enough free space" alert when attempting to sync your new iPhone 4s. The following article may help to resolve your issue:
iOS: "Not enough free space" alert when trying to sync
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1503
    Resolution
Try disconnecting and reconnecting your device, then syncing again to solve this issue.
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
    1. Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
    2. Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
    3. Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
    4. Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
              - If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
    5. Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
              - Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
              - Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
              - Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
              - Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
    6. Restore using iTunes.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • System not giving Forward date when Material will be available

    Dear All,
I have a problem of system not giving me the forward date when material will be available in the schedule line. I will give you an example - say material - A01 , stock of same is - 500 qty available. Availability check - 02(Individual reqt), all other MRP controllers also set properly.
Now i create Sales order for the same material  for 650qty, system confirming 500qty but not giving me the confirmed date when rest 150qty will be available in the schedule line.
Kindly tell me which config setting needs to be enabled to get this in sales order.
    Thanks in advance...

Is there a MRP element which could cover the remaining 150? Like a purchase or production order, for example?
If there's none, and you still want to have a confirmation after the replenishment lead time, maintain the RLT in material master, and use/define an ATP check that is taking in consideration RLT.
If there's such an element, use/define/review ATP checking logic, to include such elements in the check.

  • Operation System not found

I've been following the beginners' guide and I keep running into this "Operation System not found" error.
I'm using a dell xps l502x, and trying to install x86_64 arch. I've tried using syslinux and grub both with the same error on reboot
During a syslinux install I use fdisk to partition the drive. The tutorial says this is to create an mbr, but it gives me a gpt from some reason:
    Disk /dev/sda: 120.0 GB, 120034123776 bytes, 234441648 sectors
    Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
Disk label type: gpt **this I don't understand, as I'm following the guide for the mbr**
    # start end size type name
    1 2048 31459327 15G Linux filesystem
    2 31459328 234441614 96.8G Linux filesystem
    and my fstab is:
    # <file system> <dir> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
    #/dev/sda1
    UUID=0ec7dc20-1ea3-4f1c-810b-4fded8550744 / ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 1
    #/dev/sda2
    UUID=9d6efd2f-8a18-4968-b251-7e09983ef539 /home ext4 rw,relatime,data=ordered 0 2
So I have no errors at this point other then fdisk creating gpt instead of mbr.
    I install syslinux, no errors:
    Syslinux install successful
attribute legacy bios bootable set - /dev/sda1
    installed MBR (usr/lib/syslinux/gptmbr.bin) to /dev/sda
I edit the syslinux config to point to /dev/sda1.
exit, umount /mnt/home, reboot, operation system not found!. The strange thing is when i go to the install disk and click Boot existing OS, I am able to find my install through syslinux and select Arch Linux, and it is functional.
I'm not really sure where to go from here as I've tried both syslinux and grub with the same result. When using grub I make sure to create the 1007kb boot partition marking it as EF02, and i still get operation system not found.

WonderWoofy wrote:This sounds not like a problem with Arch or your bootloader installation at all.  Rather it sounds as though you need to make an adjustment to your bios to tell it to correctly try to boot the disk with syslinux on it.
Thank you for the advice. I followed the steps listed here, and ran everything except for the last command (# syslinux-install_update -i -m). On reboot I was still faced with the Operation system not found error. I then ran # syslinux-install_update -i -m and got the following:
    Syslinux install successful
ABORT! MBR installation to partition (/dev/mapper/arch_root-image)!
I'm unsure of what this error means, but it lead me to this blog entry.
    This blog looks promising.

Same Dell here. It seems to be a compatibility problem between BIOS and GPT.
I couldn't find any other way than to use MBR.
How do you create the partition table? In fdisk 'o' is used to create a DOS (MBR) partition table.
I followed the beginners' guide to create it. I will try creating the partitions with o instead of p, i didn't know about that option. I really don't need a GPT partition.
