System not registering both USB headsets

Hey there all.
I'm having an issue with my system at the moment, which seemed to start this weekend.
I have 2 plantronics USB Headsets attached to my iMac (via a hub) which I use with GarangeBand. I make use of the aggregation to make both work within GarageBand.
However as I came to record yesterday I noticed in the Sound settings that only 1 headset is recognised. Usually there were 2 USB headsets listed which I could adjust the input levels for.
I have tried a few things.
Firstly I was able to ensure both headsets were working, I did this having only 1 plugged in at a time - this registered the headset as expected, but once I plugged in the second one it would not be listed.
I have also tries using different USB ports, even to the point of having them plugged directly into the Mac itself and not using the Hub or the Keyboard USB ports.
So at the moment I'm all out of ideas.
My software is all up to date and I've not installed anything new in the past week, so I am at a loss as to why this is happening.
If anyone could help that would be excellent.
Thanks
Matt

But that doesn't mean that the hub works properly. You're drawing a conclusion that the hub works because when you connect both headsets independent of the hub you get a similar result. But you haven't confirmed that the hub is fully functional. All you've confirmed is that when two headsets are attached one doesn't work.

  • System Doesn't detect USB headset after suspend/resume

Sometimes (this seems to happen randomly), after a resume from suspend my USB headset is no longer detected in gnome. It doesn't show up in the sound settings output tab, and unplugging/replugging the headset does nothing. It does seem to show right up if I run pulseaudio -k to restart pulseaudio. It doesn't seem to matter if I suspended with the headset plugged in or not.
Has anyone else run into this issue, any workarounds or fixes?

    Let me quote archwiki here:
    Standby / Suspend to RAM
In the ideal case, running sudo pm-suspend should initiate suspend to memory, meaning that all running state will be preserved in RAM and all components other than RAM will be shut down to conserve power. Pressing the power button should initiate a resume from this state.
In some cases, it is possible that running pm-suspend causes hangs or other issues. This may be due to specific "misbehaving" modules. If you know which modules could cause such issues, adding a SUSPEND_MODULES config to /etc/pm/config.d/modules of the form
    SUSPEND_MODULES="uhci_hd button ehci_hd"
should cause these modules to be specifically unloaded before suspend and reloaded after resume.
To configure invoking pm-suspend automatically on power events like laptop lid close, please refer to Acpid.
and exactly those 2 modules you should add in the same way.. because those are responsible for usb... helped for me...

  • Sound not working for USB Headset [Solved]

I've looked everywhere I can to find a solution for this as I'd hate to waste anyone's time.  I've done everythign the wiki has said and even tried some stuff on other webpages (like including a "!" in front of pcspkr in the Modules part of /etc/rc.conf).  This is currently a fresh install with only an updated pacman, password hashes, GNOME, and couple other minor changes.  As far this install goes I've added -- options snd-pcsp index=2 -- to /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf and installed alsa-utils.  I didn't install alsa-oss this time becuase I thought I read somewhere that OSS and ALSA don't mix that well.  I did install it my first time, but it didn't make any difference.

I reformatted to get sound to work on the normal headset again.  I went to those two sites you suggested, but I'm having a couple issues.
First I can't find any 'module' related item in /etc that has to do with alsa:
    # find /etc -name '*module*'
    /etc/syslog-ng/modules.conf
    /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules
    /etc/gtk-2.0/gtk.immodules-32
    /etc/pango/pango.modules
    /etc/pango/pango.modules-32
    /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc.d/40-libcanberra-gtk-module
This was also the only alsa.conf file I found and all it is is source code and didn't look like what the site was talking about so I didn't want to alter it.
    # find / -name '*alsa.conf*'
    /usr/share/alsa/alsa.conf
    As far as my /etc/modprobe.d:
    # ls -a /etc/modprobe.d
    .   framebuffer_blacklist.conf    nouveau_blacklist.conf
    ..  modprobe.conf        usb-load-ehci-first.conf
and all /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf is is this:
    # /etc/modprobe.d/modprobe.conf (for v2.6 kernels)
    and I don't have a /etc/init.d directory:
    # /etc/init.d
bash: /etc/init.d: No such file or directory
I did manage to find a /proc/asound directory though that looks like it might be related to my problem.
    # find / -name '*asound*'
    /proc/asound
    /var/lib/pacman/sync/extra/ecasound-2.7.2-1
    /var/lib/alsa/asound.state
    /usr/include/alsa/asoundef.h
    /usr/include/alsa/asoundlib.h

I tried to change the order so that the creative headset was "0" and the hda "2" via nano, but after confirming the changes and viewing the file again it always reverted back to this.
I'd like to say that I'd like to write a udev rule to change the default card when I plug/unplug the headset, but I'm not sure how to do that and would like to fix it manually before I create an automatic method so that I know what I'm doing.
**PulseAudio isn't installed atm.  It seemed like even though it provided a temporary fix it didn't actually correct the problem.  I hope the problems I've stated here aren't related to not having it installed.

  • HP DV7 laptop, cant listen and talk from 2 usb headsets at the same time??

    Hi,
I am trying to use two usb headsets at the same time as my wife and I are doing an online course, but can onle use either one at onc, not both?? Has anyone got any ideas?
    Thanks, Matt

Hello Mattynsavvy, welcome to the HP Forums.
It appears that you're trying to use two headphones from your notebook to do an online course.
The way that you're trying to do this probably won't work. The notebook itself only has one sound card. This card can only output audio to one device at a time. So if you have both USB headsets into ports. Only one will have sound. Just like how the headset cuts off the speakers. You would need a second sound card, or to be using speakers or another computer.
The only thing I could think of that may accomplish what you're trying is to use the audio/mic jacks on the notebook specifically with a splitter. This may allow the sound to be direct to two headsets. I can not say for certain if this will work or not.
I was able to find a few YouTube videos with various ways to achieve what you're trying to do, but as they run with 3rd party software attempting those suggestions would be completely up to you.
    I hope this helps.
Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • USB Headset Works in One Port, Not the Other

When I got my headset (Logitech) it worked perfectly just after plugging it in and using it. It worked while plugged in to either of my USB ports on my laptop. Recently however, it has not worked at all while plugged in to the port on the left, while it still does work when plugged in to the port on the right.
If I open iTunes while plugged in to the non-working left port and make sure to change my system prefs so that the input and output use the Logtech USB Headset, then I hear no sound of any kind. If I then simply plug the USB headset into the other side of the computer without changing any settings, it works fine. This is new behavior as it used to work in both ports.
Another thing to note is that the volume control buttons on the headset still work even when plugged into the USB port that doesn't play sound. Also, I successfully plug in my printer, mouse and other devices to both ports and they all work fine.
I've tried repairing permissions, repairing preferences, and restarting, but nothing has helped so far.
Any ideas on why this would happen with any device?

Which operating system are you running? I have similar problems in a configuration with and iMac and a Macbook, but haven't tried to switch the system around. see this thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2112054&tstart=0
My problem arose when upgrading the iMac to run OS 10.5.8.
I'll try this tomorrow and see if my problem is similar to yours by swopping the system around

  • Ventrilo, Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 and System Preferences

    Hi all,
I have some troubles using ventrilo on my G5 (same problems also on a new iMac).
Ventrilo is working, I'm using it with World of Warcraft, and using it with a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 (but the problem happen also with Logitech 250).
After some times I'm using Ventrilo, this is very random, people in Ventrilo stop hearing me. I noted that opening the System Preferences, checking the Sound panel, the Logitech is selected as sound in, but the visual signal on the panel is blank (if I speak on the microphone no signal is visualized).
What I need to do is to disconnect the Logitech from the USB and reconnect it. I need also to exit from Ventrilo and relaunch it.
Then all is working good again, naturally till this happen again (may be 5 minutes after as 30 minutes).
I've also tried to remove Ventrilo and its preferences and reinstalling it. This assuming that the cause of all this is Ventrilo and not MacOSX. But this happen also on a new iMac...
    Thanks for any help!

    Hi Croma12,
The problem is not Ventrilo - it's Logitech's headsets and the driver software.
I have had both the USB 350 and USB 250 - each have the same problem, that is, not being recognized when freshly connected. It's a trip to the Sound Preferences pane each time to reset. Often we need to toggle the Mute checkbox to make the headset work.
Even worse, 90% of the time when I connect the headset, it freezes my MacBook completely, necessitating a forced restart. Not Cool.
I've combed through the Logitech support library and discussion forums - as a company, their Mac support is very poor, and their forum moderators know very little about Mac hardware.
To make the switching of sound sources a little easier, Google for "soundsource" - it's a menu-bar widget that will sometimes enable the Logitech headset without needing a trip to the Sound Preferences.

  • ITunes 11.1.2 not registering new ID3 v2.4 tags (Deleting music from both library and HDD)

I'm a DJ and therefore have ALOT of editing in my iTunes music library (adding and deleting tracks, commenting, adding tracks to new- and smart playlists etc.).
Music management on the hdd -wise, I frequently use the ID3 tags for deleting tracks from both the music library and my hdd, but since updating iTunes to 11.1.2 i'm having difficulties.
I have this routine for deleting tracks:
Rating tracks due to delete with 0 stars
Going to smart playlist called 'To trash' (filter = 0 stars), select all tracks
    Adding/changing genre to 'to trash'
Searching for 'Move to trash' in my HDD music folder
Move all mp3 files to trash, empty trash
iTunes, run Doug Script 'Super Remove Dead Tracks'
After the routine, all tracks I decided to delete, where deleted from both the library and hdd folder.
BUT, now it seems that Finder doesn't find any mp3 files with the ID3 metatag of 'to trash' (Step 4), hence i cannot "smart find" the tracks i want to delete.
    Possible cause of the problem: i'm suspecting it to be iTunes not "tagging" properly;
All of my "DJ-tags", such as 'MTV' and 'Mainstream' etc, in comments, tagged before updating to 11.1.2, can be found by these metatags, but it seems like new tags/comments are not "registered" in the ID3 metatags - at least not recognized by Finder.
Note: I know that i can just downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes, but I'm very interested in having my equipment up to date, since I'm using it professionally, and want it to be as stable as possible with my hardware.
    Any suggestions?

The next question it will ask is if you want to delete from your HD.
Anyways, the topic is (mostly) about iTunes not tagging properly (apparently).
    Yes, there are two issues.
    ID3 tags.
Your workflow, which is way too much. Use the computer to do the work, not you. No need to pull your engine just to change the oil.
Just checked and the ID3 tags works fine here.
    Do this.
    System prefs > Spotlight.
Select the Privacy tab and add the drive with your media.
Then remove the drive with your media.
This will force the OS to rebuild the Spotlight index files, which where the metadata for files is stored for searching.
This app you can view the Spotlight metadata of files/folders.
    -> http://www.hamsoftengineering.com/freeStuff/freeStuff.html
Note: I know that i can just downgrade to an earlier version of iTunes, but I'm very interested in having my equipment up to date,
FYI: iTunes 11.1.3 was released Tuesday , 5 November.

  • Why is logitech 350 usb headset not recognized by my MBP?

I have a Logitech Premium USB Headset 350 that is not recognized (at all) by my fairly new MBP, which is running OS X Lion 10.7.5. I have run all of the available software updates but the headset it still not recognized as an input or output device (under system preferences). When I plug it into my old PC (Dell Inspiron) it is recognized immediately and works perfectly. Can you please help me with this? I really want to me able to use the headset on my MBP.
I have emailed Logitech several times and they have been unhelpful!

Either read the headset user manual or contact the vendor.  You should also try posting in the Bluetooth forum area.

  • Error: USB Headset not recognized

HP Pavilion dv7 Notebook PC  WV703AV
    OS: Windows 7 Home Premium - 64bytes
Error: No error... just not working
Hello, I just bought an USB headset SOMIC and after plugging it to the PC I realize it wasn't working. At the beginning I got mad thinking that it was about the headset, however after testing it in several computers with different Operative Systems(windows 7 x64, windows XP x32 & x64) I realize that actually they worked perfectly... so whats is coming on with my PC? - I thought.
I tried by doing the following:
1st - Changing it of USB Port - I tried the 4 of them.
2nd - Updating the sound Drivers.
        3rd - Installing the Headset's drivers.
4th - Downloading & Reinstalling the sound drivers.
5th - Disabling the computers drivers in order to only use the headset's drivers.
I am getting so angry that I am planning to reinstall my OS, however before doing it I would like to know if you could help me in this matter . It is clear that it is ABOUT THE USB CONDITION OF THE HEADSET as I have others with normal connectors and they work perfectly. Moreover, I JUST REALIZE that AUDIO BEATS monitor the sound settings and it has NO USB CONNECTOR COMPATIBILITY (only HDMI or NORMAL MALE CONNECTORS).
So I tried disabling/uninstalling HP BEATS however it doesn't appear anywhere. Now I dont know what can I do to sort out this issue I am having please help me before I burned my PC . Pleasee I really need your help.
I look forward to hearing from you, thanks in advance.
    Santiago.

I too have this problem. Bump.

  • System preferences -Sound does not see external USB speakers

The computer internal speakers are working OK but the problems come when I try to use external USB speakers. The previous volume problem of the imnternal speakers resolved itself.
I have now purchased a new USB set of speakers (BOSE Companion 20) but now they will only work through the "headphone" slot at the rear of my Imac and then only thru one speaker.(right)
I have reset the PRAM - anyway I followed all the instructions and it was not solved.
In "Sounds" in system preferences the Imac cannot see the USB speakers - it only recognises the internal speakers for output.
I think until "sounds" recognises the USB Speakers I will not get both speakers working.
I insert the USB speaker wiring pin in the Headphones slot at the back of the Imac and as mentioned sound only comes thru the right USB speaker  -nothing works when I put the pin in the speakers slot alongside the Headphones slot.
    Any help apprecaited

  • After up grade to ios5.1, my 3GS  can not use personal hot spot (both USB and blue tooth) .

After up grade to ios5.1, my 3GS  can not use personal hot spot (both USB and blue tooth) . Tried reboot, reset network, reset everything, reinstall my xp system on my N B, still does not work. My iPad  used to go to Internet  via iPhone 3GS personal hot spot, now my 3GS can not find my iPod through blue tooth!!!!

Same problems, unfortunatley I updated to 5.0 1 hour before going on holiday for three weeks and no way to restore my phone to try to remove it.At the same time, drop outs, range problems and the most annoying was my music and apps were corrupted and would not function properly :-(

  • Logitech USB headset not detected

When I run lsusb | grep Headset, it shows that the usb headset is plugged in(grep audio did not work).
    Sample output:
Bus 002 Device 005: ID 046d:0a0c Logitech, Inc. Clear Chat Comfort USB Headset
But here's the problem, when I execute aplay -l, it gives me no sound cards found, though I even have a intel intergrated audio sound card.
I have gnome installed, so it uses pulseaudio, so I can't use alsamixer, but is I go into sound settings, it only says dummy output.
    Other things to note:
    - Do not have gnome-extra installed
    - Have extra gst media codects
    Thanks in advance,
    Ahad

Crizzo is right, the best way to charge is with the included power block. That said, the USB cords are interchangable as far as an of us know. (just not power bricks, iPhone and iPod bricks put out 5W of power, the iPad wants 10W and will always say 'not charging' if plugged into less power than it requires even though it will charge, just very slowly)
    If you have tried to charge your iPad - with the iPad charger - with multiple cables and multiple computers and get no joy then it's time to head to the apple store and have them check it out. The 30 pin USB port can go bad - mine did - and it's a manufacturer's defect (unless there's any sort of obvious damage) and should be covered under the warranty;
