Hope I've done the right thing! Hope I haven't done any damage to my computer by accepting the first call!!

Yes, you are right. This is a phishing attempt.

I am new to the skype app on my iphone.  The past two mornings I have received an incoming call saying...'attention, system notice'...it says something about contacting [invalid URL] for settings.  Can you tell me what this is, and what I need to do please?

using a computer or mac, login to your Skype account then change your privacy settings to allow calls and IMs from people in your contact list only.  Then this privacy setting option will also apply in your Skype account in your iPhone.

I get these calls all the time, and blocking the sender does not help!
WHY CAN'T YOU STOP THESE CALLS!  WHY DOES BLOCK SENDER NOT WORK?
I like Skype, but if you can't solve a simple problem like this I will have to disengage.

Hi, dpmaclaren, and welcome to the Community,
Unfortunately, it is not just one incident or the same abuser of the system that you are blocking - these scammers keep changing the background numbers.  Please report this to Skype Customer Service (this link provides the instruction how to do this: contact customer service ), and please continue to Block and Report as Abuse as this alerts Skype.
If your situation allows for it, you could also adjust your profile settings such that you can receive incoming calls from people on your Contact list only... . Just a thought.
    Kind regards,
    Elaine
I am having the same problem. I have bloked them in all possible ways. I already reported this problem a couple of months ago. No solution yet.
Now they are calling several times in a row. Look the info below:

This is really enoying. You should sue theis guy big time. He is really causing a big problem to your service.
I can not do what you suggest, because I have to receive calls from people who are not in my list.
As for to report these incidents you should provide a straight email address to do that
I am using Win 7 and have been with Skype from many years.

  • I got a "System Notice Online MainTENANCE" call

    [10:30:24 PM] *** Call from SYSTEM NOTICE™ ONLINE MAINTENANCE, duration 01:48. ***
This call gave me a website to go to, stating that something in my computer wasn't safe, i went to the side but didnt click on anything and it said that a back door and what not was opened, and a few other things as if it had scanned my computer. However I went and used my own two scanners and nothing showed up. Why would I get a call like that on Skype stating such actions had taken place on my computer when in fact it had not? I would like to know if this call had come from Skype or an outside source.

  • Keep receiving messages from FSS.system.notice.urg...

    Keep receiving messages from FSS.system.notice.urgent.us.
    Anyreason why?  Cannot find explainations.

Hi, Plastic, and welcome to the Community,
But my question is this, This is a brand new account (2 days old) set up only on a skype phone. I have told no one my skype name, so how did the caller know my name to call?
Question: When you set up your new Skype account, did the Skype app on your phone provide the option to secure your account via setting the privacy settings to permit incoming audio calls, video calls, and instant messages from people on your contact list only?   If not, please sign on via a laptop or computer to do this.  Remember to Save your settings as you proceed through the screens/windows.
It's not like they can randomly guess a skype name.
    Yes, they can.
    How are our details stored?
Please refer to these FAQ articles for explanation: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA143/is-skype-secure and https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA31/does-skype-use-encryption
Can wild characters be used in skype calls?
If you mean something like an "*" such as in a database search, then, no.
No one should be able to call my skype number unless I tell them my ID or chose to use something easily guessed, and then even if this was the case, within two days?
If you secure your account and profile (do not specify a gender; leave location and other settings which default to "Public" neutral or blank), then your Skype account should not be easily found.
Skype has significantly reduced the number of ways other Skype users can find their friends, colleagues, and so on, but still allows for general searches based on only four Add a Contact features: Skype name, full name, e-mail address, or telephone number input in the Profile.   Your new Skype account fell into the scammer's random search parameters.
Also, why does Skype allow user names that include system.notice? This would seem to me words that should be reserved for system notices, or am I missing something here?
Yours is a valid point which I have read many times - however, these titles are only titles such as how you might change your name as it appears in your Profile settings; the scammers constantly change the underlying Skype account names they use.  Please see this FAQ article for the details of a Skype name vs. a display name: https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA110/can-i-change-my-skype-name
Securing your account should rid you of these nuisance messages as well as unsolicited contact invitations.
    Best regards,
    Elaine

    Dear All,
These are all spamming/scamming/phishing attempts.  Please Block and Report as Abuse.  Please do not reply or respond!
For the sake of security, I recommend changing your account password, ensuring your computer is fully updated with all patches available, and running your preferred anti-virus/malware/spyware software with current virus signature files.

  • System notice - activate protection

I got a call from this account today with an automated male voice stating that my connection had been poor on 27th november and my computer wasn't properly protected so i had to go to [a webpage - removed link to protect other community users] to activate protection.
I of course was suspiscious and did not visit the website and after checking this forum blocked and reported the caller. However, i am worried that the call identified that my connection the previous day was poor because this was true, i'd had significant problems that day, and i only use skype veryy rarely so this call, possibly this was the first time on my new computer (macbook pro) so am feeling this was a little too well timed to be coincidental.
I'm concerned that somehow my skype account has been monitored and what this may mean for the other information available on my computer. Can anyone help explain this scam at all??
EDIT : title/message case changed. Link removed

  • System Notice Online Maintenance

I received a call and was told to go to sispw.com, which I did not do.
Could not shut off the voice so I rebooted.
When I rebooted, I got a message telling me that updates were installing and not to shut down my machine.
    Anyone else seen this?

Hi, jc7777, and welcome to the Community!
I suggest immediately running your anti-virus/malware/spyware software using updated virus signature files, while you are not signed on to Skype.  Obviously, it could be coincidence that another update was being downloaded at the time the spam call arrived.
One of my favorites is SpyBot Search & Destroy which allows you to set a restore point.
When you sign back on to Skype, and going forward, please Block and Report as Abuse all such incidents of these calls/contact invitations as they alert Skype to the newest mutation of a known scamming/phishing attempt.
    Best regards,

  • [12:18:36 PM] *** SYSTEM NOTICE - URGENT ONLINE RE...

Why do I keep getting calls from this service, I have tried to block it three separate times and still get calls???????

    Hi, liljon,
Unfortunately, these are well-known scamming and phishing attempts.  Please do continue to Block and Report as Abuse all of these calls as Skype is alerted to the newest accounts being used for these attempts.
Depending upon your circumstances as to how you use Skype, set your privacy, audio and video call, and instant message settings to receive calls from people on your contact list only.  While doing so makes it harder for true friends and colleagues to find you on Skype, it also makes you more invisible to the malcontents who will not quit.
