System (ntoskrnl.exe) high cpu usage in Windows 8.1
Sir/Mam,
I'm having this issue since last week, when i checked it is the "system" (ntoskrnl.exe) file which is using upto 18-24% of my CPU and causing all other applications to stutter for a second (incluuding Media player, mouse pointer, everything).
By using a Process Explorer software i found out that it's related to these values running under that file:
" ntoskrnl.exe!RtlSidHashLookup+0x1ffc "
It slows down my PC for a second and it happens after every 5-6 seconds (approx.).
Using Microsoft Windows 8.1
Lenovo Z50-70
Need help.
Hi,
The WPA shows that it is WmiPrvSE.exe (WMI Provider Host)that occupies up to 20% CPU, and three threads are the causes, 8328\7988\8828. but hard to find deeper information from this, so please use process Explorer or process monitor to find more information
about WmiPrvSE.exe and the 3 threads, you can refer to this link
http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/77f8bc7d-663c-4c33-b732-f362c5585300/service-host-local-system-is-intermittently-using-30-of-my-cpu-windows-81?forum=w8itproperf
Regarding to the wireless or LAN driver, I suggest you update the driver to latest version if it doesn't work fine.

CSA 4.5.1(657) high cpu usage on windows 2003 sp1
Hi,
We have experiancing high cpu usage on windows 2003 sp1, when somebody logs in remotely. The server has 1gb of ram and the cpu is 2ghz. The Cisco Trust Agent (1.0.55) is installed also.
When somebody logs in remotely the process okclient goes to 100% cpu and eats all the available RAM and the machine starts to swap, the pagefile has grown to 1gb. This is not all the time though, only in some cases like this one.
Could this be due to some specigic policies associated with this machine be the cause of such behaviour?Hi Rossen,
It could be due to some @remote rule but first some questions:
What is the server function?
What groups is it in?
Does it have 2 enabled NICS?
Is it sharing anything other than admin shares?
Is it a member of AD\Domain or standalone?
Why is the CTA installed?
Why is your page file dynamic and not static and why is it only 1GB (should be 1.5x physical RAM)? Growing a page file is a slow and painful process.
You can try some things right away:
Either remove if from the groups that have @remote rules or put the server in a group with no rules\policies at all. That will tell you if it's the agent or the rules causing the problem.
Good luck!

Settingsynchost.exe high Cpu usage
Hello Everybody,
So lets get to the point.I clean installed Windows 10 Tech Preview Build 9841 x64 on my Hp pavilion g4 1303-au laptop
Specs of my laptop :
Amd a4-3330mx Radeon HD 6480g Microprocessor
6 GB DDR3 Ram 1333 Mhz
500 GB HDD
what i found problematic in this build (ie.,build 9841) was that when i first boot my laptop after clean install,i opened my task manager and found that Settingsynchost.exe was using 25-35% of cpu without doing anything. My fan was throttling so fast than
normal.I was really so pissed off with that so i retrieved back to my old win8.1 pro x64.So can anyone tell me how to fix this Settingsynchost.exe bug from tech preview because i want to see more aspects of window 10 and give my utmost regards for it.
Thank You
Sincerely,
Aman SrivastavaWe have found that the information bubbles that open up in the top right hand corner of pdf documents can consume a lot of CPU, when visible for a user on our RDS servers Acrobat Reader would consume anything between 14-25% of CPU resource. This turned out to be very easy to resolve - first you can simply close the info bubble as the user, this setting is then retained for the next time any pdf documents are open. However this was not a suitable fix for the several hundred users that we have regularly connected to our various RDS farms. Instead we added the following registry settings to each users profile via our logon scripts - these disable the info bubbles and therefore prevent the high CPU usage.
KEY = HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\11.0\AVGeneral
DWORD = bReaderShouldShowInfoBubble
VALUE = 0
DWORD = bReaderShowEPDFToolsPaneInfoBubble
VALUE = 0
I hope that this information helps other users with similar High CPU issues when running Acrobat Reader. -
Sppsvc.exe High cpu usage since 4/6/2015
sppsvc.exe using 60% to 80% of cpu since 4/6/2015 in Windows Server tech preview. Is this due to a update or the upcoming 4/15/2015 expiration date for build 9841? This has not been a problem up until now. Any ideas?
I've just tested it with the latest version of Firefox and the CPU usage is
rising in line with the number of IDX files.
Unfortunately I can't EASILY test the applet with IE6, I'm waiting for a
response from my partner to see if anyone uses IE6 with the applet.
Thanks

High Cpu Usage on Windows 8.1
I'm running Bootcamp with Windows 8.1 on my late 2013 retina macbook pro, and the "System" and "System Interrupts" processes are using about half of my cpu at all times. Is this an issue with the drivers? I also recently updated to Yosemite, if that helps.

System Interrupts and High CPU usage.
Hi there, I have a new AcerAspire V15, which worked great until a system update last weekend.
Now I have massive CPU usage spikes for no obvious reason and the highest usage seems to by the System Interrupts. I have scanned and rescanned my laptop and have found no viruses whatsoever.
The issue is so bad that I can not even stream a video from youtube without issue, let alone get any work done, or gaming as was the intention of me buying this laptop.
Any solutions?Hi MrvV ,
We
may uninstall the update to check if it causes the issue .
Open
Programs and Features in Control Panel ,click
View installed updates and uninstall the update .
If the problem is solved ,we can update the driver of all the hardware components and reinstall the system update again .
After reinstallation ,if the problem still exists ,we can ask Acer support team whether the update will conflict with your model of laptop .
Here is the link for Acer support :

Besides ,I suppose your laptop is not installed with Winserver OS .You can get better help in the

High CPU Usage on Windows 2000
Is it normal for my CPU usage to spike to 100% everytime a page loads? I'm doing some minor load testing on the example StockPortal with 30 users, and my CPU usage keeps maxing out. Even when I'm the only one on it, the CPU usage spikes to 100%.
The machine I'm using is a 1.4 ghz Pentium with 1 gig of RAM. I also changed the cloudscape database to SQL Server 2000.

[email protected]Chris,
I asked around here yesterday. A couple of our performance test guys said
they had seen similar symptoms on some machines when:
(1) Pages may be getting compiled on every hit. As a result,
you will see CPU getting pegged.
They have to make sure the ServletReloadCheckSecs is not set to 0 (in
config.xml).
(2) They also have to set "pagecheckseconds" in weblogic.xml to non zero.
setting them to 300 secs may be appropriate....
Sincerely,
Daniel Selman

This is WLS 6.1 sp1, WLP 4.0 sp1. we are testing against theout-of-the-box stockPortal

we are going to be running JProbe this morning to attempt to findbottlenecks

Did you make any customizations or is this a plain download of WLP 7.0?

Unfortunately, we are seeing the same phenomenon on a DELL 6450,
2x700Mhz
PIIIX,
4G Ram.
The webserver CPUs peg at 92-98%, login response times are 17sec andpage
response
times are 10sec and this is a test with a blank portal page, ie norendered portlets
at all.
On the other hand, the DB servers (same config) are struggling to reach5%
CPU
utilization.
we've tweaked threads, socket readers, heap size, logging, cxn pools, and
everything
else we can think of.
anyone have any ideas?

Edward,
A slightly facecious question: would you rather that the CPU was at

100% CPU utilization is not necessarily a bad thing, it depends onhow
competing OS tasks are being scheduled by the OS and the overallperformance
of the system.

Rim.desktop.exe high cpu usage and internet activity
What the heck is going on with desktop 6 software? Rim.Desktop.exe is running 10-20% cpu utilization and my router lights are blinking like crazy. It won't shut down right away while this is going on either. I have to force the shutdown to close the app and stop the internet activity. This goes on when my phone is connected or not. Storm 9530.
DeanThanks for the quick reply.
If you do not have that 3rd party add-on running, do you notice a difference in the cpu usage? or network connectivity?
Also did you experience any of these problems with running with DTM 5.0.1
The only network connection that Desktop Manager uses is to register the PIN number and to check for updates and down the new updates. But it does not continue constantly.
I would see if you can use BlackBerry Desktop Software without the 3rd party add-on unless you tried before, to see if it's a third party add-on causing the issue or Desktop Manager.
I look forward to your results.

Hello!
I've a big problem with this MP. When the zone monitoring is enabled (by default) the MonitoringHost.exe takes up all the CPU. I've put the zones in Maintenance mode.
I've got this problem only with a new Windows 2012 R2 server. Other Windows Servers (2003 R2, 2008 & 2008 R2) with DNS Server Role they don't have this problem.
Any ideas?
Thank you!
The configuration is:

Ntoskrnl.exe 100% disk usage windows 8.0 and 8.1
This is a bug report. I hope Microsoft will take it seriously as it took me a whole day and much stress to track it down. Basically my problem was the same as this: http://slopjong.de/2013/04/23/extremely-high-disk-activity-with-windows-8-and-how-to-fix-it/
However in the graphic on this site it appears to show that Virtualbox is the culprit. However this is unlikely to be the case, as the author of the site fixed his problem by following his own advice. This is an extremely common problem as this Google search
indicates:
https://www.google.co.uk/#q=ntoskrnl.exe+100+disk+usage+windows+8
To attempt to address my own problem first I disabled all non-microsoft services in Windows 8.1 professional. When this had no effect on the problem, I then disabled all non-essential Microsoft services. In turn. when this has no effect I disabled all user
installed start-up items. Again when this failed to have an impact, I changed my browser from Firefox to Google Chrome, as I noted that the extremely high disk utilisation was at it's worst when using Firefox. This also had no effect.
I then tried a variation of my search on Google "ntoskrnl.exe 100 disk usage windows 8" (I can't remember the exact variation) and stumbled over the above site at the beginning of this message. I had by that point tried everything that was in my power
to try. But I noted from this article that the author recommended changing the power plan from 'balanced', to 'high performance'. Since I had exhausted every other avenue, I decided to try this and like magic, instantly it worked. So there is clearly
a bug in Windows 8.1 (and 8 prior to this) that causes 100% disk utilisation. I thought someone at MS might like to know about it and come up with a way to fix it.
Below is my system configuration. Please note this system configuration may contain a number of errors, as it was generated with several non-essential Microsoft services disabled. I do not believe these issues need to be addressed. However the issue of 100%
disk utilisation when using a 'balanced' power plan on Windows 8.1 (and 8.0) almost certainly does.
PS
This message board system will not allow me to post my full system configuration. MS need a better bug reporting system! Apple allow the public to submit bug reports, so why not Microsoft too. The public can find useful bugs!Hi,
Thanks for your detailed description.
We considered that the culprit for every computer is different. For the specific PC, we need to analyze the specific issue.
Please trace the performance using the Windows performance toolkit.

High cpu usage when moving application windows
Hello all,
I have two machines with arch installed:
- an eeepc 701 surf/intel gpu(xorg driver) with xfce
- an amd 3800+ X2/nvidia 8860 gt(proprietary driver) with kdemod3(also checked with xfce4)/arch amd64 installed.
I noticed that when i move a window of an application(for example konsole, etc..) too fast i get high cpu usage(30-40 %), when checking with htop.
Is it normal that the X server uses the cpu so much when moving a window??
EDIT: up to now i tested it in a friends windows machine, and it happens exactly the same, so i guess is normal. It seems i need to be informed better about how X works :-)
Last edited by mechmg93 (2008-10-15 08:04:10)today i switced back my desktop system to debian unstable and tried to see what the difference is concerning this problem.
I found out that in kde3 the solution to the "problem" is debians kde default configuration about window behaviour.
Especially the one mentioned below :
In debian this is not ticked and this has as a result zero cpu usage when windows are moved.

High cpu usage when the system is idle
I do have a high cpu usage problem when the system is idle. I bought the laptop (lenovo x230 tablet) with windows 7 installed in it. Then upgraded to windows 8. But ever since I have problems with high cpu usage by the system even when the computer is idle.
Only the system by itself uses around 30% of the cpu all the time. I ran xperf, and here is the result of it:
http://sdrv.ms/Kj6CFN
I appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks,Hi,
I'm sorry for that the log you provide can't be opened on my computer. While according to your description, it should had a special process that consume CPU usage when system idle Iguess, isn't it?
You can use
Process Explorer to monitor the process activity, may be we can find the reason of this problem.
Note: We can use Process Explorer to check the Stack of every process then analyize the problem in deep.
To gave a better insight about this problem, you can take a ScreenShot for this problem and provide the picture here.

Windows 8; high cpu usage on explorer (~50%)
I just restore my laptop, and now i noticed that my usage is above 50% and the major usage is because of explorer.exe which showed 49-53% in Task Manager.
Is that normal? Is there any solution to lower down the usage for explorer?Hi,
For high cpu usage issue, I usually use Process Explorer to troubleshoot, here is a link for you to download:
Process Explorer v15.40
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-in/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx
It's a simple and small tool, once you installed and open it, locate to explorer.exe, you will find all processes related with explorer running in your system, find the culprit of the high cpu usage.

TMG Microsoft Firewall Service Process (wspsrv.exe) high CPU.
CPU Usage 100%
Please help me.
ThanksHi,
Since there can be multiple reasons for this issue, you can
capture a manual dump of the wspsrv.exe process on TMG server or find some related logs to better analyze this issue firstly.
In addition, what have you done before you encountered that issue?
If you have any third-party programs installed, you can temporary disable them and restart the firewall service to see if the issue persists.
