  • System Panic Report

Off late, my system is hanging or freezing.  During a forced restart (stop the computer with power button and restart it after 20-30 seconds) it gives the start up chime.  It stops and user login screen.  When I type my pass word, the screen goes black and it gives me a message like system panic.  Before I could read the entire message, again the computer restarts and after user login, it either starts the computer or sometimes, again the same message appears and then starts the computer.
I have copied a system report message and posted here.  Please help me to solve this issue.

Please help me.  thanks in advance.

Hi, Tlix.  Thanks for your perfect answer.  Recently I bought Blackberry Z10 mobile phone and hence to connect with computer, I downloaded Blackberry Link.  Since then, I could notice some peculiarities in the behaviour of my computer.  Hanging, slow response and Blackberry Link quiting etc.  Your answer confirmed my doubts and I totally un-installed that application.  Since then, I didnt face any such issues.  thanks.  I didnt reply you immediately, since, I wanted to take time to confim that there are no such recurences of the past issues and panic reports.
Once again, Thanks to you and sorry for the time I took to post this.

  • Where are system preferences documented?

Where are system preferences documented? I have posted a question on this forum from time to time, or read articles in MacWorld, and often the solution to this or that is to set a particular preference, for example NSToolTipsFontSize. Is there a central place where I can find all of these preferences documented, perhaps by category?
I tried looking in XCode Help with no luck, and a Google search didn't turn up anything either.

Not really. Most default settings are documented at http://secrets.blacktree.com/ Having the Secrets prefPane installed helps with learning about them. Alternatively, peruse the hits from a google search for *defaults site:developer.apple.com*.

Etresoft, Yes you are correct I did post the same link. Sorry that I did not notice it. However, as Gajillion also noted in his post, it is a kernel timing/race condition bug and NOT a 3rd party extension bug and can only be fixed by Apple. There is nothing someone can practically do to workaround the issue.
My suggestion for everyone having this issue is to entering a case into Apple's bug tracking system, and every time you get the error also be sure that you allow the reporter app to send the info to Apple.
No one is having this issue. The only people who have reported it have extensive 3rd party software installations. I have never seen a Perl-induced kernel panic on my Mac and I do some really crazy things with Perl - SOAP servers routed through launcd with my own transport protocols. No panics.
You are free to send in any panic or bug reports to Apple, should they arise. But I am quite confident that anyone encoutering such a problem really can't be said to be running OS X anymore. Once you make that many modifications, it is some hybrid Linux-style monster. And yes, such things panic if you look at them the wrong way - just like Linux.

  • System Panic messag

Earlier this morning I got a system panic message, which read in part 'panic (cpu1 caller 0x662820): "therad_invoke: preemption_level -1, possible cause: unlocking an unlocked mutex or spinlock"@sourcecache/xnu/xnu-i486.2.11.asfmk/kern/sched_prim.c:1471'. The message, which was followed by some lines with hexidecimal numbers was displayed in the upper left corner of my screen.
It would not respond to the keyboard or mouse, so I pressed the power button.
I have not taken any further steps to fix this (since, so far it's only happened once). I have not installed any new hardware since I got this Mac. The most recent software I installed was an update to 1Password (yesterday), and removed some software I didn't want (Running Applications) according to instructions from the manufacturer. Otherwise I have not installed any new software in at least a month.
Perhaps it is worth mentioning that a few days ago, my system was REALLY slow, so I restarted it. Usually I just put it to sleep when I am not using it, as I use it every day for at least six hours.
The problem is now that some of my system preferences don't appear to be working properly, such as the keyboard preferences. I'd set "Move focus to the menu bar" to F2 (no modifier key), but now F2 doesn't do this (nor does Fn+F2, Ctrl+F2, CtrlFnF2. Do I need to reset my PRAM, simply reset all my system preferences to default or what?

  • System crash and system panic

Hi, I am jus a beginner in solaris. I have few questions to ask. Please help. Thanks
    1) if the system crash, wat are the steps to do? check error message? please giv in detail.
    2) if the system panic, wat are the steps to do? boot CD-ROM and remove some of the files?
if it is a mirror, wat should I do? break the mirror and remove the files in these 2 hardisks?
    3) Any good website to learn about system crash and panic, and troubleshooting case study?
    thanks
    regards,
    raymond

Hi, when system panic, am i still able to boot up to single user mode or multiuser mode? last time when my senior face this problem, he said he cant boot up. and remain in OK prompt. then he said the system panic is becoz of the hdd or mount point is full (95%). so he said jus remove some of the files to reduce the size, then do fsck -f, and then boot up.
    is it correct?
since not able to boot up to init 3, so how to boot hardisk (as u mentioned)?
anyther thing, about the crashdump and coredump, i know how to configure and enable it. but is it the files vmcore.0 and unix.0 useful? but as i know that we r hard to read these files.

  • System Copy documentation

    Hi,
We have BI running on NW 2004s dual stack.  We have a requirement to refresh the QA system quarterly from production.  We are attempting to use following link ( SAP System Landscape Copy for SAP NetWeaver and mySAP Solutions)
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/go/portal/prtroot/docs/library/uuid/6931413f-0b01-0010-c190-c21bc6711fb0
and note 886102 for the basic procedure, per the recommendation of my instructor in BW360.
    http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.km.cm.docs/oss_notes/sdn_oss_bw_whm/~form/handler
As the BI database is expected to grow to over a Terabyte, we would like to avoid using the R3Inst tool alone to perform the copy.  From the documentation, SAP has to be down during the export, and we anticipate the export of the ABAP schema to run for several hours.  As the BI database grows, this will get progressively longer.  If we limit the SAPInst to the Java schema, it should limit the production downtime requirements.
The following paragraph from the How to Guide appears to indicate that this is possible, but the How to Guide is a little dated (2006).
Copy of WebAS - JAVA components
If not using the Jload tool to copy the JAVA database of an SAP WebAS JAVA or SAP WebAS ABAP+JAVA system, but one of the methods described below (e.g. database restore), there is still some JAVA-specific content in the filesystem which needs to be copied as well, both for New Installation and Refresh. With WebAS 6.40 and NetWeaver 2004s, the SAPInst tool provides the required functionality to export this filesystem content of a JAVA system (the JAVA central instance) and import it into the target system. When choosing the SAPInst option u201CCopy the database by using database toolsu201D, SAPInst will skip the Jload database export and only export the source JAVA central instance required to install or refresh the target JAVA central instance.
As far as I can tell the basic procedure to get the export is to:
    a. run SMIGR_CREATE_DDL in the source system
    b. run ora_br_copy.sh in the source system
    c. Run sapinst
Since the How to Guide is slightly dated, the indicated path no longer exists.  Can anyone provide more up to date information on how to get only the Java central instance?
    Thanks,
    Russ

    Russ,
You said you figured it out.  Did you find any other items that need to be done?
We are facing the same situation and I am doing some research on the fastest and easiest way to copy production to QA.
thanks for any information you can provide.

  • Pcimxi module causing system panic

We have an UltraSparc Solaris 9 system which is panicing relatively often. The panic seems to be coming from a NULL pointer being dereferenced in the pcimxi module.

We are running version 2.0.0 of the NICpcimxi package. I don't see any newer versions or patches available. Has anybody else experienced this problem? If so, any suggestions. Thanks!

I've gotten some more info from our engineers regarding the problem as well. Evidently the system only panics when they are talking to the Spectrum Analyzer via PCI attached GPIB. You would think it is a GPIB problem, but the panic is from the pcimxi module. It doesn't always crash when connecting to the SA, however it can be frequent. The NIpcigpib software is 2.3, NICpcimxi is 2.0.0, and NICvisa is 3.1. The crash string is as follows:

do you have any idea what can caused that problem?
the first thing i though is that this is hardware problem maybe in the cpu, but i think that if it was the machine was crashed and not just reboot herself.
it can cause by air condition problem?
    maybe software issue?
what can i check for more info?
    Thanks

It's likely time for you to use your service contract and open a support case with Sun.
    Get the corefile properly analyzed.
The only things I notice in your excerpt were suggesting a possible corrupt spot on a file that is out on a NFS filesystem. Whatewver application you're running was unable to use it and in order to limit the amount of corruption, the system rebooted.
Grabbing some of those lines and editing for readability...

  • System Panic when adding Drives to Diskset

When I am trying to add drives to the Diskset for Sun Cluster 3.0, the second system in the cluster panic and rebooting. The metaset comand comes out with an error message.
    suncs01/> metaset -s suncsdg -a /dev/did/dsk/d4 /dev/dis/dsk/d5
metaset: suncs02: metad update drive dbinfo: RPC: Unable to reveive.
The out of scdidadm -L gives exactly same did numbers for each node. I also try with c1t0d0 and c1t1d0, but the result is same.

Well, my itunes library is kept on an external drive. The song I was trying to move to my iPod I had just bought, and so it was saved to my iBook. However iTunes had the right location, it would play, it just freaked out when I tried to move it to the iPod. When I moved it to the external, then to the iPod, everything went smooth. I still don't like it though! Let me know if theres anything obvious here.

  • Hyperion System 9 documentation on Oracle web site?

Where can I find the documentation for Hyperion System 9 on Oracle's web site? It seems to be buried. I'm specically looking for all documents realting to the Interactive Reporting Studio v9.3.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Try these sites:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/welcome.html
and more specific for IR and other tools:
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10530_01/doc/nav/portal_4.htm
    and for Hyperion EPM docs:

In the /var/adm/messages file I found this:
Notifying cluster that this node is panicking
    panic[cpu7]/thread=2a100655ca0:
BAD TRAP: type=31 rp=2a1006553b0 addr=0 mmu_fsr=0 occurred in module "SUNW,UltraSPARC-IV+" due to a NULL pointer dereference
I noticed that an error was in the SUNW,UltraSPARC-IV+ module. What do you think, is there a hardware error (CPU) in this machine?

I'm going to guess that this was a software issue.
It's only a guess but the snippets you provided suggest the event was rooted in a wayward software thread involving ...
    vxio: volkiomem_seek
    SUNW,UltraSPARC-IV: bcopy ()+
    vxio: volkio_to_kio_copy
    vxio: volsio_stabilize
    vxio: vol_mv_write_start
    vxio: voliod_iohandle
    vxio: voliod_loop
Those all suggest a thread that just got misdirected during an I/O write.
CPU #7 was simply where it happened thus CPU #7 reported it to you.
Back in the day, in a past incarnation, when I was in the Sun Support Center,
the Hardware support staff never touched panic event questions.
It was always analyzed by the Kernel team, even if it was eventually found to be a failed hardware component. We let `Kernel` figure it out.
Your best option would be to use your service contract and open a support case with your local Sun Solution Center, but you might also consider posting this same inquiry to the Kernel forum.

  • System Libraries Documentation

Where can I find documentation on the Oracle system libraries installed with JDevelepor. For example the library Oracle BI Graph is not mentioned in the help, nor is there a DOC Path specified in the manage library section.
    Thanks,
    Luiz

The BI Beans in fully documented in the JDeveloper Help system. Navigate the Help tree as follows: Oracle Business Intelligence Beans > Presenting Data > Presenting Data in Graphs.
The BI Beans JavaDoc is available directly off the Help menu in JDeveloper, select "BI Beans API Reference". Once in the JavaDoc look in the oracle.dss.graph package.
