System.plist corrupted! What to do?

My system.plst corrupted! What should I do? Now all the applications won't work. I misplaced my Leopard disk. Now I start this discussion from other computer. Please help.

No installer disc and you don't back up the computer files? That's living dangerously.
What system is the other computer running?
If you could find the contents you could probably just make a copy with TextEdit since it is just a text file. Don't look at me, I run Tiger.

    Quit Mail, Trash this file...
    Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), use Disk Utility from there to Repair Permissions, test if things work OK in Safe Mode.
    Then move these files to the Desktop for now...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.finder.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.recentitems.plist
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist
    Reboot & test.
    PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.

    Hi, kg4fap and pick...
    kg4fap — I'm not sure whether I know enough about the intricacies of preferences files to be able to help with this...
    (1)  ...but what you've pasted in aren't accurate representations of the .plist files' contents [1] — they're only the parts that "can be seen" by a text app like TextEdit.
    (2) If I may — I'm unclear why you're considering editing a preference file as a troubleshooting step, anyway.
          (a) How did you determine that .plist corruption was an issue — by trial-and-error, or using Jonathan Nathan's Preferential Treatment, or...?
          (b) What are/were the Bluetooth problem(s) that need(ed) troubleshooting? It might help to know some details about your Bluetooth firmware, software, devices, etc. — would you mind pasting the data from a System Profiler »» Hardware »» Bluetooth report, with View »» Full profile (⌘—3), into a message?
    I'd be happy to try and help with isolating and troubleshooting whatever the problematic Bluetooth behavior(s) may be...
    Looking forward to hearing back from you —
    Regards,
    Dean

    After 4 repetitions I think I got that straight.
    Answer: Return the CD.
    Or did you mean this was an album you bought from iTunes, in which case it really isn't a "CD" (which is a hard, plastic, shiny disc) and I'm at risk of getting confused.  If it is a corrupt file that you downloaded, delete the file and try downloading it again.

    In one of my user account, I can't get the scroll bars to show!!!
    I want in preference-general and select ''Always'' under Show Scroll Bars, but I can't see them in Safari, Mail...
    When I close Preference, my ''Always'' selection is gone and it return to '' Automatically based on input device''
    Also, issue with Screen Saver. I can select any Apple default screen saver. My iMac always play my iPhoto Library.
    I'm suspecting Systeme Preference Corruption in all my users.
    In previous post, Frank recommended to boot from recovery disk, go to terminal, rset paasword window and slect ''Reset Home Folder Permissions and ACLs''
    This is what I did, exept, it was running after 24 hrs of waiting and I decide to quit. It did the same with all users...
    Do you have a solution to this issue?
    NOTE: Lions was reinstalled and HD erase. Repair Disk Permission done, Safe boot done.
    What do I got left?

    Repairing the permissions of a home folder in Lion is a complicated procedure. I don’t know of a simpler one that always works.
    Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
    Drag or copy – do not type – the following line into the Terminal window, then press return:
    chmod -R -N ~
    The command will take a noticeable amount of time to run. When a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) appears below what you entered, it’s done. You may see a few error messages about an “invalid argument” while the command is running. You can ignore those. If you get an error message with the words “Permission denied,” enter this:
    sudo !!
    You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning not to screw up.
    Next, boot from your recovery partition by holding down the key combination command-R at startup. Release the keys when you see a gray screen with a spinning dial.
    When the recovery desktop appears, select Utilities ▹ Terminal from the menu bar.
    In the Terminal window, enter “resetpassword” (without the quotes) and press return. A Reset Password window opens.
    Select your boot volume if not already selected.
    Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
    Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select  ▹ Restart from the menu bar.

  • System block corrupted

    Hi,
    Database version: 10.2.0
    OS: Linux 5.4
    in my test databae One of the system datafile block is corrupted.
    I dont have rman backup for that test db.
    EXP-00008: ORACLE error 1578 encountered
    ORA-01578: ORACLE data block corrupted (file # 1, block # 50305)
    ORA-01110: data file 1: '/u01/app/oracle/oradata/rmct/system01.dbf'
    EXP-00000: Export terminated unsuccessfully
    I cannot recover that block. At least I want to take export of the schema which resides in non
    system tablespace.
    regards,

    What is the mode of your database.
    SQL> select log_mode from v$database ;
    If it is running in ARCHIVELOG, then you should be able to recover the corrupted block using RMAN
    Guide on how to do that using RMAN can be found at ..
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B12037_01/server.101/b10734/rcmconc2.htm#1006446
    You can also read the forum
    block level recovery
    If the database is running in NOARCH. then I am not sure but you have to repair the block before you can run import. You can use the DBMS_REPAIR package

  • System File corrupted

    Hi
    A small clarification required.
    If the system datafile is corrupted, what is the way ahead to bring the DB up and running.
    Thanks
    Sheen

    Using rman, restoring system tablespace on its original location:
    [oracle@localhost ~]$ rman target /
    RMAN> startup mount;
    RMAN> restore tablespace system;
    RMAN> recover tablespace system;
    RMAN> alter database open;
    On different location:
    [oracle@localhost ~]$ rman target /
    RMAN> startup mount;
    RMAN> run {
    set newname for datafile 1 to '/home/oracle/app/oracle/oradata/orcl/non_default_location/system01.dbf';
    restore tablespace system;
    switch datafile all;
    recover tablespace system;
    alter database open;
    You should have a valid backup...

  • New itunes crashed my entire system and corrupted itunes folder

    Right now I am MAD AS ****.
    I started iTunes and was told there was a new version available. Like a sucker I installed it. My iTunes folder and library with hundreds of hours of music is corrupted and the library shows up as blank. I tried uninstalling iTunes, but the new version leaves traces and when I install version 4.9 it won`t install because it finds elements of the new version. Even clicking on the iTunes library folder which is on a seoparate drive crashes my system. Now what Apple genius is responsible for this distaster!!!! And who at Apple is going to help me with this problem. Better question: Who at Apple even cares!
    Can you tell I`m upset. Does anyone check the updates before sending them out to the field. %$?&*$!

    OK, calm down, take a deep breathe. Ok, now that thats out of the way, please tell me exactly what happen with details so we can try to help you out.
    Unfortunately, a majority of these download issues are actually Windows issues, not Apples. With that aside, as much info you can will be helpful along with what Windows OS you are running.

  • T400: System Update = Corrupt windows system files

    I have tried to make a fresh Windows 7 installation, but after installing updates via Lenovo System Update the system gets corrupt.
    I replaced the hard drive on an T400 and loaded a image that I had on to the drive.
    After a installing a few updates and program I noticed strange system beaver. So I did a system file check and it came back that files was corrupt and cold not be repaired.
    So I did a new fresh Windows install. But it to became corrupt after just running Windows Update and Lenovo System Update.
    So I ran some hard drive and memory diagnostic without find and problems.
    Then I did a new Windows 7 install again. After I installed all recommended updates from Windows Update I did a system file check, all OK. The I installed Lenovo System Update and all its recommended updates and did a new system file check, Windows system files corrupt.
    Any one exercising similar problem or have any Ideas what Lenovo update is destroying the system?

    Are you sure you have a sound/healthy installation media?
    I have Win7 Ultimate in three T400, a T400s, (plus three T500, two W500 and two X200s, just to name the Thinkpads of the same generation). Never had a problem with Lenovo System Update.
    But in my case I first install PowerManagement only, then run Windows Update until Windows is fully updated and as a final step I run Lenovo System update. Worked as a charm so far...

    I can't connect to Wi-Fi - keeps timing out. No problem connecting from other laptops / phones. Stopped working after I did a system upgrade. What can I do? I am on OS X Yosemite.

    Take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried, until the problem is resolved. Some of these steps are only possible if you have control over the wireless router.
    Step 1
    Turn Wi-Fi off and back on.
    Step 2
    Restart the router and the computer. Many problems are solved that way.
    Step 3
    Change the name of the wireless network, if applicable, to eliminate any characters other than letters and digits. You do that on your router via its web page, if it's not an Apple device, or via AirPort Utility, if it is an Apple device.
    Step 4
    Run the Network Diagnostics assistant.
    Step 5
    In OS X 10.8.4 or later, run Wireless Diagnostics and fix the issues listed in the Summary, if any.
    Step 6
    Back up all data before proceeding.
    Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
    ☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
    ☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
    ☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
    Enter the name of your wireless network in the search box. You should have one or more "AirPort network password" items with that name. Make a note of the name and password, then delete all the items. Quit Keychain Access. Turn Wi-Fi off and then back on. Reconnect to the network.
    Step 7
    You may need to change other settings on the router. See the guidelines linked below:
    Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points
    Potential sources of interference
    Step 8
    Make a note of all your settings for Wi-Fi in the Network preference pane, then delete the connection from the connection list and recreate it with the same settings. You do this by clicking the plus-sign icon below the connection list, and selecting Wi-Fi as the interface in the sheet that opens. Select Join other network from the Network Name menu, then select your network. Enter the password when prompted and save it in the keychain.
    Step 9
    Reset the System Management Controller (SMC).
