System preferences can't sign in to iCloud

I click on "Enter Password..." in the iCloud pane of System Preferences and click "OK". It just sits there spinning the little circle, forever. It's not letting me sign in, it looks like.

May have been unclear: I click "OK" after entering the correct password. I know it's correct because i can sign into www.icloud.com using this.

I am still on Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and do not have iCloud in my System Preferences. I have registered with iCloud online and backed up my iphone5 last night to my iMac. Where can I find the backup on my iMac?
Below is what comes up when I sign into iCloud - where are all the other applications that I need to backup?
Appreciate any answers to this query?
    Rachel

Your question is unclear.  If you're backing up to your iMac, (via iTunes, with cable or WiFi), this has nothing to do with iCloud and the backup is stored on your iMac here:
    : ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/

  • HT201317 can i sign into my icloud account from a friends computer so i can get to my pictures

Can I sign into my icloud account from a friend's computer so i can get to my pictures?

What you need is a file named Domain.sites (iWeb 2) or Domain.sites2 (iWeb 3).  Copy it from your laptop to your other computer at home.
It's located in your Users/Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder.  Place it in the same folder on the other computer.
All the files for the site are contained in that file/package.  After editing you will have to publish the changes to your hosting server.
NOTE: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Home/Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible in Lion or Mt. Lion enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and press the Return key - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.
For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
To open your domain file in Lion or later or to switch between multiple domain files Cyclosaurus has provided us with the following script that you can make into an Applescript application with Script Editor. Open Script Editor, copy and paste the script below into Script Editor's window and save as an application.
do shell script "/usr/bin/defaults write com.apple.iWeb iWebDefaultsDocumentPath -boolean no"delay 1
    tell application "iWeb" to activate
You can download an already compiled version with this link: iWeb Switch Domain.
Just launch the application, find and select the domain file in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder that you want to open and it will open with iWeb. It modifies the iWeb preference file each time it's launched so one can switch between domain files.
WARNING: iWeb Switch Domain will overwrite an existing Domain.sites2 file if you select to create a new domain in the same folder.  So rename your domain files once they've been created to something other than the default name.

  • I can't sign in my iCloud on Windows 8. It keeps saying there's a server error. Can anyone help me?

Can't Sign into My iCloud on Windows 8 because of a server error.
I've tried to off my firewall, but it is still the same.

    Hey Esther Siew,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities! I understand that you are experiencing issues signing into iCloud on your Windows computer. Are you attempting to sign into the iCloud control panel? If so, check out this resource:
iCloud: iCloud Control Panel setup cannot be started - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT203796
“Your setup couldn't be started because the iCloud server stopped responding.”
or “Your setup couldn't be started because the iCloud server couldn't be reached.”
    1. Check the System Status page to make sure there aren't any issues affecting the settings you've chosen in iCloud Control Panel. If you are setting up iCloud for use with Outlook, check that there aren't any issues with Mail, Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders.
    2. Make sure your computer is online. In a browser, attempt to view www.apple.com and iCloud.com. If you can't connect to the Internet, your iCloud contacts, calendars and tasks cannot be added to Outlook. If you're using Windows 8, review the instructions for resolving network problems. If you're using Windows 7, review the instructions for troubleshooting internet connection issues.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • HT4759 i can not sign in to icloud

i just can not sign in to icloud

I was having same issue here (using windows 7 64-bit). iCloud control panel used to work fine for me before this last update, but then it stopped letting me sign in. After entering apple id and password, just hangs with the spinning progress wheel forever..
I tried uninstalling, rebooting, and then reinstalling the control panel, but still did the same thing.  I also tried changing my iCloud password;  new password worked fine for signing onto icloud.com and from my iPhone 4S but still not from the control panel. The strange part was let it would let me log into it with my wife's apple id ??
That got me experimenting some more and I realized that the control panel worked fine from a different user profile on my windows computer!  After experimenting and nosing around in my profiles 'AppData' folder, I managed to get it to work again:
If you have iCloud control panel log in window open, close it
Copy this path to your clipboard:  C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\Preferences
    Goto start -> run
Paste the path and hit enter
From the folder that is opened, rename 'MobileMeAccounts.plist' out of the way (or you can delete it if want..)
Restart iCloud control panel and try logging on again. MobileMeAccounts.plist is regenerated the next time you sign out from control panel.
I'm guessing that somehow my (our) original MobileMeAccounts.plist has some sort of corruption in it, or maybe some log in attempt got hosed somehow and its preventing it from even trying?   Who knows...
Hope it works out for you too!!   ~~Corey

I can't sign in to iCloud. My Apple ID is valid, but is not valid for iCloud. How do I get to use iCloud?

You are getting this message because you are trying to create an iCloud account on a PC by signing with your Apple ID.  You can only sign into an existing account on a PC.  You first have to create iCloud account on an iOS device (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) running iOS 5 or higher, or on a Mac running OS X Lion (10.7.5) or higher.  After creating your account on one of these devices you will then be able to sign into the account using this ID on your PC.

  • I had to change my apple ID due to someone else using it and changing the password, so now i can't sign out of icloud as the email is wrong and i dont have the password to turn off find my iphone. Help!

Basically, someone was hacking my apple account for a while and kept changing the password so i kept resetting it, now i've had to change my email as icloud still wouldn't accept my new passwords - even after being updated. Now i can't sign out of icloud due to it being the wrong email and an unknown previous password, as i can't turn off find my phone.ipad. How do i solve this without losing everything as i can't just delete the account and the usb ports on my laptop have gone so i can't back up to my laptop. I'm running completely on icloud but desperately need it to update so i don't lose all my uni work as well off my ipad.

If you mean that Find My Phone is asking for a password to a different Apple ID to your current Apple ID and that ID is a previous version of your current ID, not an entirely different one.
This feature has been introduced to make stolen phones useless to those that have stolen them.
However it can also arise when the user has changed their Apple ID details with Apple and not made the same changes to their iCloud account/Find My Phone on their device before upgrading to iOS 7, or if you restore from a previous back up made before you changed your details and some other circumstances.
The only solution is to change your Apple ID back to its previous state with Apple at My Apple ID using your current password, you don’t need access to this address if it’s previously been used with your Apple ID, once you have saved these details enter the password as requested on your device and then turn off "find my phone" and delete the account from your device. It may take a short while to remove the account.
You should then change your Apple ID back to its current state, save it once again and then log back in using your current Apple ID. Finally, turn "find my phone" back on once again.

  • HT2490 why system preferences can't be found?

i try to click on system preferences but i t dont do anything

    Two possibilities.
Either it got deleted from the Applications or Applications -> Utilities folder, or you accidentally damaged your Launchservices cache.  System cache cleaning utilities can do that.   The worst is MacKeeper, and removing it requires third party directions:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3036
Do not use system cache cleaning utilities on a system that isn't backed up.
If you find System Preferences can't be found with one of the utilities on the bottom of this tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
http://www.charlessoft.com/ Pacifist can extract it from your 10.5 installer disc (if you are running 10.5).
Once you extract it and put it in the right folder, run the 10.5.8 combo update from:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/Mac_OS_X_10_5_8_Combo_Update
If you are running 10.6, obviously use the 10.6.8 combo update:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Since you posted in the 10.6 forum, but have a signature that says you are running 10.5.8, it is hard to know which link to give you.  Always make sure you post in the correct forum for your operating system, and update your signature if needed.

  • Can not sign in to Icloud  it keeps coming up the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this ipad 1st generation

can not sign in to Icloud  it keeps coming up the maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this ipad 1st generation

Error Message: "Cannot sign in.  The maximum number of free accounts have been activated on this ipad/iphone"
I encountered the same problem when I purchased a used iPad for my elderly father and couldn't set it up for him. I called Apple Support...
Apple support could NOT help me. I was told there is no way to circumvent the 3 icloud setup limit on iOS devices at their end. I was told to use a different mac or iOS device that hadn't met the 3 x limit.
So, using MY iPad I tried to do that. At first I went to Settings/iCloud. But that is your PRIMARY iCloud account    (and this was MY iPad and I didn't want to screw up my own settings!) which you don't want to trash.
After some online research (iMore to be exact) I discovered you can setup a secondary iCloud account using:
Settings/Mail,Contact,Calendars --> Add Acount... -->iCloud --> Get A Free AppleID --> Birthday Q then Security Question - then Name - then Get a free iCloud email address....
After you get to the new iCloud settings page at the end of the signup process - I deselected all the tabs which made the new account "inactive" on my iPad.
Next I went to the used iPad that had the initial problems, and tapped on Settings/iCloud. I signed in with the iCloud account that was newly created and was able to then get an iCloud account to work!
I left the new iCloud account showing on my own iPad (under Mail,Contacts,Calendars) as it is inactive. I am not sure what would happen if I deleted it - it may stop working on my father's iPad then.

  • The application system preferences can't be opened

After limiting spotlight searches to external shared hard drives, I cannot eliminate this limit because when I go to System Preferences to change Spotlight, I get an error message "the application System Preferences can't be opened". How can this be reset?

    No error code.
I finally went to caches in my library and delted "com.apple.preferencepanes.cache".
I tried to restart my computer but it hung up. I unplugged it and re started.
Maybe primitive. But it seems to be working so far.
    thanks!
