System Preferences Changing Without User Input
I have one user who has had random system preferences change without her input.
She is a network user connecting to a Lion 10.7.5 Server via OD.
Her desktop is Lion - 10.7.4
Example: Today her setting for Security and Privacy to require a password on screen saver wake-up was changed/no longer checked.
Her setting to be able to use a right click on her mouse changed 3x last week without input.
Any ideas?
If you are asking if the user is defined more than once, the answer is no. Just one entry.

Mail settings changing without user input
I have several Mail accounts set up in the following manner (let's please ignore the fact that have far to many accounts, I have collected them as family members came onto the net and in teh process of setting their ISPs up made accounts for myself):
Several gmail accounts........ working properly
a .mac account in IMAP....... working properly
POP accounts with ISP(a) using APOP auth. working properly
POP accounts with ISP(b) using password auth.. working properly
POP accounts with ISP(c) using password auth.. working properly until the settings somehow change to APOP auth on their own
Edit: SSL is only enabled on the gmail accounts
Things will be working properly for accounts with ISP(c) and then randomly the advanced settings will change themselves from Password authentication to APOP authentication. At which point the accounts will register offline and, upon setting them to go online, will fail to change status without generating an error.
The only way to return to normal operation is to reset the authentication method to Password at which point any messages still on the server(auto-deleted after 1 week) are re-downloaded resulting in duplicate messages in my inbox.
In case it was some kind of syncing problem of my account settings with .mac I reset the .mac sync and refreshed the backup while everything was working properly.
Outside that my only solution has been to reset to Password authentication and go through the process of deleting a weeks worth of duplicate emails. This is seriously annoying and never happened under OS X Tiger. Any help is greatly appreciated.
Message was edited by: TigerkzrI've done both. I only have one mac and I have completely removed the profile from .mac and loaded a new one. Still, randomly changes from 'password' authentications to 'APOP' authentication.
I have checked the keychain as well, not a single duplicate entry(I routinely delete some of the 'oops saved the wrong password' entires just to keep things clean). -
Settings and arrangement changed without user input
I woke up the other morning to find that my iphone's apps had been rearranged overnight. The ringtone was also changed, and there may be other settings that are different which I've not discovered yet. The phone was turned on and in its charger overnight. There is no possibility that anyone else was using it and changing settings, and it had not been synced recently. This happened apparently spontaneously. Any ideas? Thanks.
same problem wiith iPad3 - many things helped a bit, and biggest improvement did come from Apple on line. even tho device is ouf of warrenty, they had me put in my serial number and then ran an extensive "health check" i was pretty surprised that they did that. i had to shut it off before it finished because my time was limited, so i never saw fhe 'last word' but it works a lof better now, before that I did reset and updated iOS. both helped a bit. also helped to take off foreign language keyboards, especially Tibetan, there is quite a bit of discussion about this problem in the forums, if you search. users describe it such varied ways that not all the reports show up on any given search. good luck! aloha

It is showing you are connected, but the signal strength is low.
bookmarks
Those are what is in the Favorites bar. They can be changed by deleting the from the Favorites bar. To add others, add them to the Favories bar.
How can you remove that app?
You can't.
Un-install CleanMyMac. It can damage the entire system.
Myth of the Dirty Mac
CleanMyMac - Uninstall
CleanMyMac2 Un-install
If you are going to re-install, make sure you have 1 or preferably 2 full backups using Time Machine and/or a clone.
Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account. Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don't do them all at once.

Open CC applications to default preferences with no user input
I am searching for a way to open CC applications to default preferences with no user input. I understand there is a key board short cut (command/option/shift on start) but I am hunting for a way to have the preferences always revert to default. In the past I have written a script to delete the preference files upon computer start up but once again, it needs to be rewritten. Is there a method that does not require KLUDGE?

Software Update icon in System Preferences changed
Never seen this before. This morning I noticed that Software Update icon in System Preferences changed from the regular one to a BIG switch. Noticed this only in MBP.
I got it back. I moved Software Update preference pane from /System/Library/PreferencePanes to Desktop and moved it back. The original icon is back ! Ofcourse I ran Disk Permissions after checking.

System Preferences Sound is Automatically Muting Without User Input
I have just recently upgraded to Leopard (10.5.1) via archive and install. Everything has seemed to be working fine except I am having a problem that is driving me crazy! Almost constantly, my system preferences shows me that my sound is being muted without me doing anything. When this happens, the sound icon, showing that my sound is off and then back on, keeps appearing on my screen.
Here are the things I've tried to do to correct this problem. I've tried a different mouse, different keyboard (I am using the new, aluminum keyboard), disconnecting all sound input devices, etc. I tried trashing the system preferences plist file too to no avail.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! The same thing has happened to me repeatedly! It started last week--I've have Leopard since it first came out. It is annoying. I've tried several different forums and no answer. I've screened this discussion board and there have been no reply for sound issues. People who have brought their Mac's to Apple stores don't get answers either. I hope someone figures this one out soon! I'll be watching and waiting.

System Preferences changing, Possible Compromised P/W

Re: Trojan BackDoor.Wirenet.2
Feb 15, 2014 1:25 AM (in response to Linc Davis)
I was recently reviewing comments from Linc Davis and after replying was told it might be better to start a new discussion
Ive been having issue with my MacBook Pro, finding locks open in System Preference, Password Login issues, Bluetooth enabling without going into System Preferences, in fact I rarely use Bluetooth,.. and reconfiguration of Security & Privacy, wifi starting without opening network preferences. I did run the diagnostic test Linc Davis posted in support for "Trojan BackDoor.Wineret.2".
Maybe the wrong test for me to run.
But I was informed that a colleague had aquired my password for my MacBook Pro, Im not sure if its true, second hand information, although this colleague did have access,...... How or if the P/W was attained maybe from me leaving exposed laying out in written form, not sure ....but I have since changed the password, many months back, and the issues I mentioned still come and go, any possiblity these could be changing romotely
Basically what I'd like to know is any of the information from the diaognostic test of Linc Davis's is revealing anything out of the ordinary. Additionally, I've been suggested to do a clean install becuase of a root access possibility.
I would take this to the proper authority, however where Im at: the judical system could care-less, ....the police don't even have cars, pen, let alone paper to write a report.
Thank you for any suggestions

Elapsed time (s): 213I didn't see your message last month, but was just searching for other cases of reported Wirenet infections. I've seen three cases now in the last two months, so this is obviously being actively distributed somehow, and up until March 13, Mac OS X did not protect you from it.
Wirenet, aka NetWeird, is malware that includes backdoor functionality, which means that it gives the hackers behind it the ability to install additional components on your system or make configuration changes. Basically, whatever they want to do. So, the question is, did you actually have it installed, or did your anti-virus software just detect an installer that you hadn't opened yet?
It may be too late to get such information. If you are like most people, you deleted all detected files at the time they were detected, thus destroying any evidence we might be able to work with. If you can still extract information from your anti-virus software about what file(s) were found and where they were located, that would be exceedingly helpful.
If you think you may have actually opened a suspicious installer or app, and that this malware was actually installed on your machine, there is only one possible response that can ensure that your machine is clean: erase the hard drive. See:
How to reinstall Mac OS X from scratch
If you're not sure, it would probably be safest to do this. -
Repeating system alert sound, without user action 10.6.1
After installing 10.6.1 on my Macbook Pro unibody 17", i get a repeating system alert sound every 2 seconds. I have restarted, logged out, changed my sound settings, and eventually just had to turn the system alert volume all the way down.
Anyone else having this problem after the 10.6.1 update? Any resolutions besides muting system alerts?
Thanks,
cI think I found my issue - It seems to have been with Peer Guardian. I uninstalled Growl a little while back because of a bug causing Firefox to launch in the background instead of in the foreground (help from Apple's forums helped with finding that fix), and I think PG heavily utilizes Growl for user notifications.
One this you might try is creating a dummy user and logging into that account to see if the problem still exists. If it doesn't, then you know one of your startup items (System Preferences --> Accounts --> (user) --> Login Items) is causing the sounds you're hearing. -
Undesired automatic system preferences changes
Has anybody experienced automatic changes of system preferences after restarting/shutting down the computer?
This is what I've been struggling with since I updated to Mavericks on a MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2009:
1) Trackpad/scroll direction. I prefer not to have the natural scroll, but it reverts to selected
2) Keyboard: I want the F buttons as standard function keys, but this turns to unchecked
3) Language and Region/Advanced/number separators, I want the "." for decimals, but it turns to "," (I'm Italian, but for my job it's easier having the "british" sets)
4) I prefer Google Chrome as default browser, but after restarting/shutting down, Safari becomes the standard browser. If you're having trouble making changes to files that are inside your home folder (represented by a house icon in the sidebar of a Finder window), or if you can't get changes to the settings of an application to stick, then please see below.
Back up all data.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership and access-control lists to the default. If you've set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it.
I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, they may not work as described.
Step 1
If you have more than one user account, and the one in question is not an administrator account, then temporarily promote it to administrator status in the Users & Groups preference pane. To do that, unlock the preference pane using the credentials of an administrator, check the box marked Allow user to administer this computer, then reboot. You can demote the problem account back to standard status when this step has been completed.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
{ sudo chflags -R nouchg,nouappnd ~ $TMPDIR..; sudo chown -R $UID:staff ~ $_; sudo chmod -R u+rwX ~ $_; chmod -R -N ~ $_; } 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Paste into the Terminal window (command-V). I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take a few minutes to run, or perhaps longer if you have literally millions of files in your home folder. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1 or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Boot into Recovery. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open.
In the Terminal window, type this:
res
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password dialog will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
In the dialog, select the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if it's not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if it's not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
Select
▹ Restart
from the menu bar. -
How can I open System Preferences Sound without it crashing every time?

Scheduling to File System BO4.0 without user/pass
Hello all,
I have a great deal of reports that I need to schedule to a network drive, which is mapped on the server running BO. However, I don't want to enter in a user and password on each instance. Obviously if the password changed for the account I would be screwed. I was assuming that BO would attempt to use the local account, but I'm still being forced to enter in values. Is there a setting somewhere in the CMC that I need to change?, or is there a place for me to enter in a user/pass once that can be changed without having to change every instance? I am using Enterprise authentication for the CMC if that matters at all. I attempted to enter in the user/pass in the Job Server destination, but there are multiple directories I will be sending to.
Thanks!Hi Mike,
I would advise that you simply configure the Job Server Disk destination plugin with the drive details.
This way when scheduling you can simply ensure that the:
"Use Job Server Defaults" option is checked.
This is done like this:
To set your destination to file location
1. In the "Folders" management area of the CMC, select an object.
2. Click Actions > Schedule and access the "Destination" page.
u2022 If you are scheduling a Crystal report or object package, click Destination.
u2022 If you are scheduling a Desktop Intelligence document, click Formats and destination.
u2022 If you are scheduling a Web Intelligence document, click Formats and Destinations.
3. Select File location as the destination.
u2022 If you are scheduling a Crystal report or object package, select File Location from the Destination list.
u2022 If you are scheduling a Desktop Intelligence or Web Intelligence document, select File Location under "Output Format Details" and then click Destination Options and Settings.
4. If you are scheduling a Desktop Intelligence or Web Intelligence document, select or deselect Use the Job Server's defaults.
Note:
You can change the default Job Server settings in the "Servers" management area of the CMC. For more information, see the
BusinessObjects Enterprise Deployment and Configuration Guide.
I hope this is a very helpful answer to you.
If you have any questions please let me know.
Kind regards,
John
