System preferences, click the lock, I get non-english characters

Is this just an Australian issue?

Didn't have to go so far as to change to US english, but I did remove everything from the language list except for British English, restarted, and it's fine now.

"Click the lock to make changes" unable to login

Hi,
System Preferences > System > Accounts > Click the lock to make changes...when I'm accross to this stage, bad news, I c'ld not login anymore for the error of not valid user name or password!
After a several tried, it shown the hint of the password which is familiar to me too. But, I do not remember the user name and it supposed requesting password with the user name filled up.
What s'ld I do now?

I have non English characters showing up.

This morning I wanted to make a change in my Security & Privacy settings and when prompted to authenticate the dialogue box contained non-English characters. Even the OK button appeared to be in Chinese are the like.
Any ideas welcome. OS X 10.8.1

I'ts not all of the text though. It's just the authentication popup that asks you for your password when you want to unlock the padlock to make changes. It comes up with "System Preferences" then two lines of non-english characters followed by "Type your password to allow this". Then of course you have the Name and Password text fields. The Cancel button is normal and the what would normally be the OK button, is in non-english text.
Everything else system-wide is fine.

Formatting non-English Characters in Database Extracts

I am trying to create data flat file with Oracle SQL extracts. The data file is position based i.e. Position 1-30 for First Name, 31-50 for Last name, etc. I encountered problems when the data fields contain non-English characters. The position shift right by 1 with every non-English characters. For example, if there is one Spanish char in First Name, Last Name will start from 32, instead of 31. If there are two Spanish chars, Last Name will start from 33 (shift 2). Is there any way, in a database session, to restrict the formats of these text fields such that non-English characters will not affect the data field position in the flat files?

Flex, xml, and non-English characters

Hello! I have a Flex web app with AdvancedDataGrid. And I use httpService component to load some data to grid. The .xml file contains non-english characters in attributes (russian in my case) like this:

And when i run app, AdvancedDataGrid display it like "ÑÐŸÐ". How can i fix it? I try to change encoding="utf-8" with some another charsets, bun unsuccesfully. Thank you.

Try changing the xml structure by using CDATA instead of having the russian part as an attribute and see if that makes any difference.
What I meant is use something like this:

instead of the current xml.

You're not going to be able to: you can't merge accounts or transfer iTunes purchases from one Apple ID to another: but there is no problem about using two IDs.

Yes that makes sense, however have you updated it at My Apple ID before trying to change it in your system preferences > iCloud settings, you must do that first.

It looks like I cannot install anything anymore. Everytime I try to install a new software, I simply get stuck during the installation type process. I put in my password, it does accept it, but it does not go any further.
I tried to reset the password, put no password, repair the permissions, the disk but nothing will do. I nearly got stuck with the log in screen but finally succeeded in disabling it.
So I thought I might try to create a new account but I cannot click the lock to make changes. It simply refuses to react.
I am now thinking about using the migration assistant to save all my settings, data and so fourth, but again I get stuck when I have to type in my password. It accepts it but nothing happens...
I guess it has something to do with the authorization process, but can't find anything on the internet about it... Can you help me out?
I am running Lion 10.7.3.

You probably won't like this suggestion, but I suggest you reinstall Lion.
First, backup your system. Next, reboot your system, press/hold the COMMAND-R keys to boot into the Recovery HD. Select 'Reinstall Mac OS X'. If you purchased Lion as an upgrade to Snow Leopard, the reinstall process will install Lion 10.7.3. If your system came preinstalled with Lion, you might still get Lion 10.7.2. Both installs are a total install of the OS. None of your apps or data will be impacted. Just the OS.

I cannot make any preferences' changes that require clicking on the lock. When I try to click on the lock it simply does nothing and remains locked. I've tried doing a permission repair using disk utility and I cannot create another admin account because that requires opening the lock in Users&Groups. Also, when I login into root, then the lock is also locked.
The problem began when I updated to Lion.
I've had no luck finding a solution in forums.

plus when i log out, cannot log in because when i type my password it accepts it but then nothing happens, i had a root account as well but i can't enter it and can't create again because of the lock, but when i log in with guest account(no pass required) i can make changes via clicking the lock and filling in admin username and password in system preferences. and i created a new admin account in guest account by filling admin info for authorization in system preferences > users&groups , set no password, logged out but could not log into that account as well. my system is set to login to my account when the system starts.
so this is what i get with the clean display in console, opening system pref, then clicking users&groups, then clicking the lock. this is system.log

i tried repairing disk, permissions, both in system and recovery volume, and i just upgraded to 10.7.4, but the problem was present in 10.7.3, i noticed it two days ago and i just upgraded hoping that would solve the problem.
edit: i have found out that my problem is best described here, not the real concern of the OP but at the 4th option they say its a netinfo database problem, and diagnostics are the same problems that occur to me of that option but the system they're talking about is 10.1.5, i guess things have changed since then, but the problem is the same . http://macosx.com/forums/mac-os-x-system-mac-software/20630-cant-click-click-loc k-make-changes-button-when-installing.html

Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. There are ways to back up, even if you can’t log in. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore everything to the state it’s in now. If you’re not sure you can do that, STOP.
Briefly, you need to delete the following file:
/var/audit/current
If you already know how to do that, you can skip the rest of this message. Do it, and try again to log in.
Step 1
Boot in single-user mode by holding down the key combination command-S at the startup chime. If you’re using an external USB keyboard, it must be plugged directly into a built-in port on the Mac, not into a hub. Release the keys when you see a black screen with scrolling white text. In this mode, there’s no graphical interface; just a command line. Initially, you can’t make any changes to files.
Step 2
When the text stops scrolling, and you see a line ending in a pound sign (“#”), type the following command:
rm /var/audit/current
You must type the command exactly as given. If you don’t feel able to do that, STOP. At this stage, no harm will be done if you make a mistake, but later, it will be.
Press the return key. You’ll get an error message about a “read-only filesystem” below what you entered. There must be no other error message. If there is, try again until you get it right. You’ll continue to get the read-only error.
You might get the error “No such file or directory,” even if you entered the command correctly. If you’re sure that’s the case, stop and post again.
Step 3
Once you’ve taken steps 2, and received the expected error messages, enter the following command:
mount -uw /
Again, you must get it exactly right. This time, there should be no output at all. If there is, you mistyped the command, or something else is wrong.
Step 4
When you’ve taken step 3 with no error message, press the up-arrow key until the command from step 2 (rm …) reappears. If you got everything right on the first try, you’ll need to press the key twice. Make sure the command is correct, then press return again. There should be no output. If there is any, make a note of it and post a reply.
Step 5
Enter the command:
exit
Press return. The text will start scrolling again, and then the system will reboot. Try again to log in.

G4 10.4.11 System Preference Network settings lock up.

Having searched first, I found my problem:
"When I open System Preferences and then open Network, a box drops down that says "Your network settings have been changed by another application." If I click the blue OK button, the box disappears momentarily but continually reopens, thereby not allowing me to quit System. "
But no answers.
This stared after I attempted to add a windows machine,98, to our home network on a belkin 4 port router, via ethernet. This operation failed for unknown reasons. At one point I entered the router IP address in the Windows system and may have entered it wrong. I have since disconnected the windows machine from the network and I still have the lockup in System Preferences. My coonection still works though as I am posting from the affected G4.

To stop the pop-up, Go to System Preferences: Security. Check the box next to "Require password to unlock each secure system preference." Then lock Security.

I had an important app. (Memos by bluemarblesoftware.com) that I accidentally deleted. It of course had many memos, some with quite a lot of information. I did sync my phone on a regular basis and I think the memos should be on the desktop computer. I tried to do a restore function but I got a message saying there was not enough room on the iPhone. How much room is needed?

generally you need 1.90gb
what you can do is back up your phone to your computer before doing the update, just as a precaution.
