iMac, just had repaired new Harddrive erase deverything, wheres my iPhoto n all those apps, i know the gone from hard drive but i thought they would transfer from my phone? HELP ?

Those Apps would not transfer from your iPhone because the iPhone apps are iOS 5 based and the iMac apps are OSX based.  They are not the same Apps.  You will need to transfer the OSX based apps over from your external hardware backup you have kept up, Or you can reinstall the OSX based apps from their original DVD's.
    Hope this helps

  • After installing 10.6.7 everything is gone from hard drive

just as if I did a clean install. I just hit the install when prompted with the software update. There was no message that it would result in a clean wiped install.

If your description is accurate, you are in deep water here.
Do you have a Time Machine backup of your OSX? Do you have a clone of your OSX? Did you save your most valuable files (itunes, word files, photos?)
If you have no backups you should take your machine to a service person who can rescue them for you. Costs money tho'.
Your problem is rare enough that any attempt to fix it - there are lots of ways - just might tank your whole install.
If you have backups or clones, then restore that way. Another way would be to install Snow Leopard again (which is really equal to Archive and Install which will in theory fix your install AND save your valuables, but it's not guaranteed.)

  • Powerbook won't boot from hard drive or restore disk

I've looked through some of the older posts here and none of them exactly matches my problem, and I've tried just about any possible solution I can think of.
I recently noticed that my PowerBook was acting a bit strange. It was making more fan noises than usual, and sometimes the computer would make the very last noise it makes as it shuts down (which is the hard drive coming to rest, I suppose?), though the computer would still be running. Then, yesterday the computer froze and I hit command-control-power, and when the computer restarted it gave me a folder icon blinking between a question mark and the Mac logo.
I tried restarting again, but I had no luck. Now when I try to start up I get the start-up chime, then I get one of three things:
    1) If I restart it without a CD in the drive, I get the blinking folder.
    2) If I restart it with the Software Restore and Install DVD in (but without holding down the C key), it gets to the Apple logo and shows the spinning pinwheel or whatever you want to call it, then freezes and some nasty horizontal bars pop across the screen.
    3) If I restart it with the Restore & Install DVD in and I hold down the C key, it gives me the Apple logo, then the "Your computer has encountered a problem and needs to be restarted" box pops up.
I tried zapping the PRAM--no luck. I tried Open Firmware; the screen pops up, then I type in "mac-boot" and I get the same thing as in #2 above.
I used the Hardware Test CD; it told me that there was a Mass Storage error with the error code 2STF/1/4. That doesn't sound too pleasant.
I'm not sure what caused it; perhaps it was a heat thing, but I moved it too a different surface. All the hardware is original except for the Airport card, which has worked fine since Christmas. The only recent software changes I've made were updating to the newest versions of iTunes and Firefox. It doesn't seem like a hard drive problem, since the boot CD won't work.
Am I doomed to sending Apple a couple hundred bucks to fix this? The laptop is right at three years old, so even if I'd had AppleCare it would be expiring right about now. Or is it time to buy one of those MacBooks? Or just buy a couple PC's and use each one till it breaks, then throw it out?
    Thanks,
    Kevin

I finally got to another Mac. I installed Mac OS X onto my Firewire drive, then hooked up the drive to my Powerbook and used the Startup Manager. The drive showed up on Startup Manager and I chose to boot from it. When I did, the startup process continued briefly, then froze just like it does when I try to boot from the CD.
I know my Powerbook's hard drive is shot, and to be honest, I'm fine with that--there isn't any critical, essential data on there. I tried starting the Powerbook up in Target Disk mode, but that doesn't work either--I hear the chime, press T, but the screen stays black.
Now my question is: can I rip the hard drive out? Or do I have not only a bad hard drive, but also something else gone wrong? I'm not opposed to buying a new internal hard drive and installing it myself if that will fix the problem; what I don't want to do is spend a few hundred bucks to take it to someone who's only going to tell me that my omputer is now a paperweight.
Also, my Powerbook isn't one of the ones with a recalled battery. The computer can get pretty hot, even when sitting on a desk, but I just figured that was normal.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • How to install arch 2009.08 from hard drive? Please enlighten me

OK, I admit I am impatient for the installation from the CD drive. Whenever possible and whatever distro I wanna try, I head first to try to install it from the hard drive. I don't remember how many times and how many distros I have done the same to, ubuntu, zenwalk, sidux, fedora, opensuse and of course arch. It rarely failed as long as I followed someone's guide, sth like "install any OS from hard drive", I do not exactly remember. And I did the same in the past with arch. But after 2009.08, it simply didn't work. I've read the article "fast install arch from existing linux system" in the wiki, it didn't work either (by the way, if someone can solve my problem, I think the article should be updated). After it boots, at some stage, it says "Use Hook [archiso]", then tell me "waiting for /dev/archiso for 30 seconds ..." then when the time due, it throws me into a ramfs shell. I've hacked for a long time, but no luck. Then I went back to download the 2009.02 iso, however, it works flawlessly.
I did find some differences in the menu.lst/isolinux.cfg between two version.
    In 2009.02, we have
title Boot Arch Linux Live CD
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 lang=en locale=en_US.UTF-8 usbdelay=5 ramdisk_size=75%
    initrd /boot/archiso_pata.img
    While in 2009.08, it is
title Boot Arch Linux Live CD
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz26 lang=en locale=en_US.UTF-8 archisolabel=ARCHISO_AHCOHH6O ramdisk_size=75%
    initrd /boot/archiso_pata.img
I know I can install arch from usb, but I simply wanna know what's wrong here, so guys, if you have any idea, don't hesitate to enlighten me.

Hi, vacant, thanks for the reply. I did not notice you are the author of the article. Actually I missed the head of the article which directs me to another (the amalgamated one you mentioned). I take a look at it, it seems to make things complicated. I still miss the old days: you simply download the iso, mount it and copy all the contents into a separate partition, edit your current grub, then reboot and everything works. I don't understand how Arch could be so evolved to exclude this simple installation scheme. I am not complaining the development of Arch. In my opinion, a distro as flexible as Arch should provide as much installation strategy as possible. In this respect, I think we can learn from Ubuntu or sidux (in sidux, it provides a very convenient kernel parameter called "fromiso" which allows you to install sidux from the plain iso, that means, you even don't have to mount it and copy the contents out of it to a separate partition).

  • Resuming installation & calling setup from hard drive?

I got the base system installed, but had to stop.  I did take a minute
to reboot & log in as root, and everything seems good.
At this point can I re-start & continue the setup from the hard drive,
or do I need to reboot from the cd again?   If from hard drive, what is
the name and location of 'setup'?
    Thanks.

OK No need to reply, as I checked again and File3 (i.e. Dsik3) is defintely corrupt.

  • Deleting from library does not delete from hard drive????

itunes support states when deleting from library, it should prompt to remove from hard drive. i am not getting this prompt. i cannot find a setting that changes this either. please advise
    thanks,

    It only deletes it from the hard drive if it is in the iTunes Music folder path;
Look at your itunes menu > Edit > Preferences >Advanced tab.
    "itunes music folder location"
For example, say it is set to C:/Music. If you delete a file from the itunes library list that exists in C:/Music you'll get asked if you want to keep or delete the file.
If you delete a file from the itunes library lists that exists in C:/SomeOtherFolder, it will not get deleted from the hard drive.

delete windows warnings, error messages from hard drive

    Hello @NeoTaino,
I have read your post on how your desktop computer is displaying a "delete Windows warning, error messages from hard drive". Did you install any hardware or software recently? What does the full error message state as it appears on the screen? I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number. In addition, it will also help if you indicate which operating system you are using; and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit. The more information you can provide, the better!
How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?
Which Windows operating system am I running?
Is the Windows Version on My Computer 32-bit or 64-bit?
Please re-post with the necessary information, this way I will be able to research this further for you. I look forward to your reply!

  • T400 problem booting from hard driver, cursor blinking on top left screen corner

I'm having problems with T400 (2765-TDG). It has trouble with booting, which requires 5 minutes power off/on in order to propely boot operating system.
Notebook is less than two months old, fully properly driver updated then so after that nothing is been done on it neither from user or from system administrator.Problem occured suddenly after two weeks of mentioned maintenance.
    Symptoms:
After mouse intialization, screen goes black, and on top left corner white cursor blinks
There is no keyb key which can contine booting process, expect rebooting
There is no other device connected to notebook, not even mouse
It's needed several, sometimes 3-4, sometimes even 10, times to reboot with power key in order to get operating system booting
When it suceeds booting, just before booting operating system, in diagnostic mode of booting (with quick boot disabled) I can hear only one beep
     What I tried to do:
I've changed BIOS setting to force booting only from hard drive, turned off any other booting device.
Also, changed from AHCI to Compatibility mode for hard disk but with no help.
Turned off quick boot, but during booting process, there is no specific error shown
Upgraded BIOS version to 2.03-1.01 but with no help
Restored BIOS default setup, no help
Did some general diagnostics, and here is what I've noticed:
After changing settings in BIOS, save&exit, computer hangs with black screen. I have to turn it off and back on in order to continue booting. Settings in BIOS are saved properly.
When I succeed with booting into operating system (XP), graphic card sometimes is not recognized, not even by original driver installation. In device manager, I see two recognized graphic card drivers with warning sign, and "Intel management engine interface" device with warning sign
In event viewer, then only error line is "Problem with HECI driver communicating with firmware" or something like that
Operating system is not able to enter in standby mode, it justshows blank screen and I'm forced to switch off notebook by pressing power off button for longer time
Any help appreciated. Thanks! I hope I can deal with this before I send notebook to authorized service.

    Solved!

I'm sorry to tell you, but in may case, I had to send notebook to authorized service provider. They replaced mainboard and hard drive (!?). Now everything works fine, but puts shame on Thinkpad T series notebook.

  • How do i remove a place from hard drive places menu

how do i remove a place from hard drive places menu?

Yes, I saw that Carolyn. I should have included that in my previous post. I asked the person who did the change for me and had no new information to provide. He said he only did the normal change of information to receive and send POP mail. He did nothing else that should have affected the mailboxes. In fact, he made the same changes to his own Macbook Pro and had no loss of emails from his mailboxes.
So, what it boils down to is a simple question that may not require a simple answer, but my guess is there is a simple procedure to restore a mailbox's data from the Users folder on the hard drive. If the info is gone from Mail, but still on the hard drive, then it would stand to reason that we could stop focusing on what caused it to happen (especially if we don't know), and just make an attempt to Restore it - if I could find someone who knows the procedure to restore a mailbox.
It may require a trip to the Genius Bar if it so complex that no one here has experience with it. I would think that from time to time people have to restore the mail box.
Thanks so very much Carolyn for all your interest. If you know anyone who could restore mailbox, please see if they would offer a suggestion as to the steps to do so.

  • Print & Scan not responding in System Preferences; cannot print from any application

I have a MBP running 10.7.5 and all of a sudden any app I use to print (via network printers), freezes the app and does not print. From System Preferences, I cannot access Print & Scan - it does not respond. All other settings in System Preferences seem to work just fine.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.

To add to my original post: I created an alternative administrator user account and logged in with it to see if the same problem occurred. The problem does not appear in the new admin account - the Print & Scan works in System Preferences. I printed a couple items with no problem. So this is something tied to my user account. But I still don't know what to do to fix it. I came across the following suggestion online for a similar problem. Would appreciate if someone could confirm if this is what I should do. I am novice when it comes to these types of problems and have never used Terminal to do anything? Here is info: open Terminal to fully shut down the printing system with the command sudo luanchctl unload /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/org.cups.cupsd.plist and then open System Preferences to load Print& Scan which should now load without hanging. Then right click on the empty printer list and choose the option to reset the printing system and then restart computer so launcher automatically reloads the cups property list file and then return to System Preferences and set up my printer.
    Thanks!

  • V120 server boot from hard drive freezes

    Hi
I just installed open solaris build 75 on a sun v120 server. After the instalation all went well and I configured the processes and users on the server just like I did yesterday on another v120. What i did afterwards that was different from yesterday is that I put the machine on standby by holding the power off (0) switch for a few seconds, then unpluged the power chord. After turning the power on again the server will freeze the boot process in the first 2 steps after it tries booting from hard drive. (It does pass all hardware checks). To comunicate with the server I connect a windows PC on the lom port with serial cable and the SecureCRT software. I tried to break into lom with #. after poweron but it doesn't seem to work. And the lom console in standby wont let me boot from cdrom or anything while in standby. Can anyone give me some guidance here? I don't have much experience with this kind of hardware.

Well, LOL,  I did that prior to buying the software. It does meet the specifications. I found the solution on the support site. When I googled before I hadn't googled the error message verbatim. Doing so led me to this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3926 where I was instructed to create a tiny partition (128MB) and then run the installer again. No explanation was given as to why, but this did work and I am typing this via the new OS. Thanks for trying to help me baltwo! Best regards.

I was instructed to reset my notebook to repair fingerprint device.
Thought I had backup of data on external hard drive, but not.
Computer illiterate, but wanted to know if it is possible to recover data from hard drive?
    Thanks

    Hi,
Please check professional services in your area, normally they charge few hundred dollars depending on recovery rates but never get 100%. There are few tools such as:
        http://www.easeus.com/datarecoverywizard/recover-formatted-partition.htm
You may want to try yourself.
    Good luck.
