System Profile not recognising known good 80GB ADM

I currently have 2 Xserve slot loading, running Mac OS Server 10.3.9. Drive bay 1 and 2 contain 2 mirrored drives. When I place the spare drive module in bay 3 it is not recognised in system profiler and will not mount. It has been working before for backups is this a known issue that may have been caused by an update ? I am currently running frimware version 5.1.7f1.
Xserve G5 slot loading   Mac OS X (10.3.9)

First of all, unless you have 10.4 running and have your mirror set to auto-rebuild, your raid should now be degraded.
It is easy to repair anyway, but you should check the status with disk utility or diskutil command line.
I am assuming that unrecognized means that the drive doesn't even show up in disk utility? or does it say that the drive isn't recognized in the finder (with a message to format)?
The latter may be fixed with the usual tools like disk warrior or even the repair funtion in Disk Utility. If the drive is completely invisible, it may be something as simple as a loose connector inside the drive module (power or sata). Have not seen that though.
If you have Applecare, just try to get it exchanged...

I was trying to update my Security Questions this morning but got 'Timed Out' I've just tried again to get into my security settings but the system does not recognise the information I'm putting in. Can anyone tell me how I can correct this problem.  I can still log-in.
    Best wishes

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
You might try to see if you can change your security questions. Start here, change your country if necessary and go to manage your account > Password and Security.
I'm able to do this, others say they need to input answers to their current security questions in order to make changes, I'm inclined to think its worth a try, you don't have anything to lose.
If that doesn't help you might try contacting Apple through Express Lane (select your country, navigate to iCloud help and enter the serial number of one of your devices)

  • External Hard Drive in System Profiler not on desktop

The system profiler recognizes my firewire drive (though it has a corrupted looking title: "m(õc‰ìÎÜÒ”≥’:". I can't access the drive itself. I've tried disk warrior, disk utility and Data Rescue II in an effort to get in (so I can put the info on another drive) and none of them find the drive at all.
Any ideas (beyond cycling power or changing to different cables/ports) how I can get to the drive so I can salvage anything off of it?
    Thanks,
    Robert

    Basics of File Recovery
If you simply put files in the Trash you can restore them by opening the Trash (left-click on the Trash icon) and drag the files from the Trash to your Desktop or other desired location. OS X also provides a short-cut to undo the last item moved to the Trash -press COMMAND-Z.
If you empty the Trash the files are gone. Recovery is possible but you must not allow any additional writes to the hard drive - shut it down. When you delete files you erase only the directory entries, not the files themselves. However, the space occupied by the files has been returned to the system as available for storage. Writing to the drive will then eventually overwrite the space once occupied by the deleted files in which case the files are lost permanently. Also if you save a file over an existing file of the same name, then the old file is overwritten and cannot be recovered.
If you stop using the drive it's possible to recover deleted files that have not been overwritten with recovery software such as Data Rescue II, File Salvage or TechTool Pro. Each of the preceding come on bootable CDs to enable usage without risk of writing more data to the hard drive.
The longer the hard drive remains in use and data are written to it, the greater the risk your deleted files will be overwritten.

  • Printer in System Profiler, Not in Printer List?

I ran into an issue after rearranging my office earlier in the week and I was hoping that you guys would be able to help me out.
I disconnected my Canon ip4300 (connected via USB) from my iMac in order to move it and once it was reconnected I could no longer print to it. I initially attempted to connect it to a hub along with my scanner however once it was connected I attempted to print a test page and it kept popping an error saying that the printer was not ready. I thought the issue was with the hub however I experienced the same issue when I tried to attach the printer directly to the iMac.
My next step was to delete the printer and reinstall the driver however everytime I try to add the printer via the setup utility it is not in the list. It is recognized via system profiler but not in the printer list. I also connected it to my MacBook and it worked without any problems.
Any ideas as to what the issue could be? Thanks in advance.

    Thanks Paul and Vince -
I am still unable to print even after trying all of your suggestions (with the exception of purchasing the Fixamac product).
I was actually in the process of purchasing the product when I thought I would try my Epson Scanner as well to make sure that it works. Well, when I tried to scan it ended up giving me the same type of error (Scanner shows in System Profiler but when I try to scan it says it is unavailable) as my printer issue. I pulled some of my console logs at it looks like the issues might be related. Here is the log after trying to scan:

I really have no clue as to what the errors mean but I found it odd. Any ideas as to what the issue could be? I am about ready to pull my last few hairs out!

  • System does not recognise iPod

    Hi,
I carefully read the previous related topics, but none of them describes exactly the same problem. Here's what's happening:
I've got a 60GB iPod, installed it on my laptop and worked perfect ! (laptop: windows 2000 + USB connection). Later on I installed iTunes on my PC (Windows XP + USB connection). But not with the same results. The PC simply doesn't recognise the iPod.
While installing iTunes, I got following message (after 5 minutes) "the iPod is connected. Wait untill the system has recognised the device". After clicking "format", and 10 minutes of waiting, I get the message: "assertion b failed at .\iPodFormatFAT32.cpp line 1068
Furthermore, I also get the message "1628: can't complete installation based on script"
By the way, I can see the iPod in my windows explorer screen as a "removable device", but if I click on it, I can't access it. According to windows the device works properly. In the meanwhile the iPod itself keeps on showing "do not disconnect", and the speed of the PC slows down (it even freezes from time to time).
And that's it... I've tried all suggestions on the apple support pages (reinstalling iTunes, trying different USB-ports, resetting iPod, returning to its factory settings, disabling conflicting system services and startup items, working with the iPod updater, checking out newer software versions,...) I also tried some suggestions of the discussion members, but no success.
    1) Do above mentioned error messages say something to someone?
    2) Are there any suggestions aside from buying additional USB hubs, firewire cards, etc?
thanks a lot for some help, I'm feeling so frustrated after spending 500$ (iPod + accessories), spending days on trying to install it properly, and still being nowhere !!
    Gregory.

Hey Gregory, I was just about to say: GO OUT AND BUY A FIREWIRE CABLE, NOW! We were at the same point of frustration as you, so we took our laptop and the iPod to an Apple store and had a tech look at it. He hooked up a firewire, connected the iPod and it worked just fine!
It's completely ridiculous that Apple doesn't make any mention of these known errors when using a USB connection. They make it sound so simple in the manual! It's like, "Plug it in, transfer your music and enjoy!" Pshaaw, right. Why not, "If you use a USB connection this iPod will act in unpredictable ways and may not function properly on your PC!"
To everyone having problems: invest in a firewire set up! And that's the end of my rant.

  • OS 9.2.2 system folder not recognised in tiger

    Hi,
I'm a bit lost here. I'm trying to get Classic to run in OS X 10.4.11. which has no previous copy of OS9 on it. The OS X was a clean install.
I installed a copy of OS9.1 onto a USB dongle and then managed to boot the G3 through this and install OS 9.2.1 and then 9.2.2. It had to be installed on the dongle so that I could boot the iMac into OS9 and then install the updates.
Now, when I start Classic from System Preferences it will find the OS 9.2.2 system folder on the dongle and quite happily run, but it is obviously a lot slower than if the system folder was on the OS X HD.
So I copied the contents of the USB dongle to the root of the OS X HD and now it will not find the folder.
Do I need to do anything to enable the OS9 folder now it is on my hard disk. I thought maybe the disk is formatted differently if it is set up exclusively for OS X when carrying out a clean install.
Interestingly, the machine found my OS9.1 system folder on the HD and tried to run Classic from that, but it just hung on start-up which is a known error between OS 9.1 and Tiger - Hence why I updated from 9.1 to 9.2.2

Don't worry. I've managed to resolve it.
I restored my OS9.1 system folder and then copied the contents of the 9.2.2 folder into this. Classic picked it up and work fine.
The only problem is that now I have discovered that iMovie 2 is not supported in a Classic environment. That was the only reason I was attempting this anyway.
    Oh well....

  • Printer profiles not recognised in Photoshop CS6 print dialogue

Note that the Illustrator, Indesign and Acrobat print dialogues see all my (custom) printer profiles.
Even Photoshop sees them in the Apply Profile and Convert to Profile dialogues: just not when trying to print.
    Is this a known problem?

Thanks, Jeff. This issue goes far beyond Adobe. I'm trying to resolve colorspace problems that get even more confusing when there are multiple web pages or other documents at multiple websites, including software companies and camera companies that have conflicting information for the same thing. I don't want to add something else into the mix that may make things worse. Unless the user can have the settings that they know worked on their device to rely on as a point of reference to make controlled changes to accommodate a software change, it's like taking two handfulls of M&Ms to represent various colorspaces in three places in a program and using trial and error to figure out which two or three colors to use and in which order. I think of this as informative dialog and not venting.
Update: After burning through another color ink cartridge and 20 more sheets of Kodak glossy photo paper, I managed to come up with a combination of profiles and colorspaces that are acceptable with the Kodak ESP9 printer in PS CS6. While Adobe RGB should work from the Nikon D7000 JPEG for a larger color gamut, with the Kodak printer, the colors were dull. Went back to sRGB in the camera and sRGB IEC61966-2.1 for the working RGB profile. In this printer, color management cannot be disabled in the printer itself, so I selected Adobe RGB. In the PS Print Settings Color Management, PS Manages Colors,  and the Printer Profile is Beta RGB (Adobe RGB is not an available choice). After increasing the photo brightness to about +20, the contrast slightly, and increasing the shadows setting to bring out the shadowed areas somewhat, the printed photo is a close match to the on-screen image on the calibrated LED monitor. When I tried CIE RGB, the colors were more saturated but had too much blue. Maybe this will help others.

  • How to edit in ACR when ICC profile not recognised?

    Hi everyone,
I am getting some of my photographic images made into a book by a large and reputable printer in HK.  They have just sent me their ICC profile and I've figured out how to do soft proofing in photoshop using the profile.
However, I do 99% of my images adjustments in camera raw, then only open the image in photoshop if I need to do something else camera raw can't do (rarely).
Is it correct that I won't be able to see how my photo will look when printed until I open the image in photoshop, after I've already done of my adjustments in camera raw, and meaning that I might have to do another round of changes in photoshop??
Is there any way for camera raw to load the ICC profile so I can see what it's going to look like while I'm making the adjustments in camera raw, not after they're already done??
    HELP!
    Thanks,
    Poppy

As I asked in the Photoshop Windows forum, what profile(s) have they sent you, along with what instruction?  A printer profile?  A document profile?  Both?
It may be that you'll want to work on your images in one of the standard document profiles (ProPhoto RGB, Adobe RGB, sRGB) then when you're ready to deliver images to the publisher you'll want to do a Convert to Profile operation.
But that's getting ahead of things.  You really haven't given quite enough information just yet.

  • System Update not recognising BIOS update

I have a ThinkCentre M92p 2992D9G and want to make sure everything is up to date before installing the Windows 10 upgrade. The Lenovo System Update (5.07.003) does not appear to be picking up the latest Bios for my system - the website is showing Bios 9SKT89A released 30 July which is clearly newer than 9SKT88AUS that is on mine, and the latest update check was on 31 July. I am also slightly concerned that there is no Bios for Windows 10 available. Whilst Microsoft have clearly decided that Windows 10 will run on my PC, I want to make sure that it will be fully functioning.

    just offering assistance;

    @ kevin, the link is:

Be more specific as to what operating system and MODEL type you are missing items from and state said items.

It seems two or more catalog entries need updating.

  • System not recognised after failed 10.6.6 update

    Hi,
A colleague of mine had an error while installing 10.6.6 on a MacBookPro; I was not able to understand which kind of error, anyway now I'm trying to save the situation.
If I just try to boot, after some minute a stop sign appears in place of the apple.
Disk utility does not report any error.
If I look at the disk as firewire target, files are there, plus an unexpected deferred install folder.
If I try to update from combo, I'm not allowed, perhaps because the system is not recognised.
The same if I try to downgrade to 10.6.3 from the original disk: I'm not presented with Archive&install, preserve user and network option that would be good for that. I can only install as if the disk is new, but I would prefer not to loose contents. What if I go this way? User files remain available?
No Time machine backup available too. I could copy files on another disk, this is possible through firewire, but if possible I would avoid to reconstruct configuration by hand.
    Thanks.

Final update: I surrendered. I tried to cancel some of the folders in the target disk, but I was not able to install the system over. So I saved the user home folder, formatted and installed from zero. I felt like a Windows user .

  • Won't mount, file system not recognised

I'm trying to download firmware from Netgear's website but when I try to mount the files they say the file system is not recognised.
I'm trying to get hold of Netgear as well but I thought someone here might have some suggestions too while I wait for a response from Netgear.
The two files I've tried so far are:
    http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/D102713.asp
    ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/dg834v2_1022.zip
    http://kbserver.netgear.com/release_notes/D103044.asp
    ftp://downloads.netgear.com/files/dg8343_0132.zip

My mistake. The file I was trying to mount isn't intended to be mounted. You're actually meant to upload this .img file directly to the modem.

  • System Profiler Missing

    Hi
I was recently trying to go on PhotoBooth and it said no camera connected i tried to look for help and everything said to use system profiler.
I know that it is in the utilities folder but its missing im not sure what happened i hvae never touched any folders that i dont know are about.
If you know a solution please help.
    Thankyou.

If it's a current Mac with a recent version of OS X, there is no System Profiler.
System Profiler is now known as System Information. It's the System Information utility that will now open up when you click More Info in About This Mac.
Information referring to "System Profiler" might be contained in out-of-date documentation, unless it really is referring to older versions of OS X back when it was still called System Profiler.

I had to restore my data from time machine by doing a full migration of all data from my back up drive.
Now that I have recovered my existing system (which did involve a full wipe of HD, internet recovery and an update again from ML to mavericks).
My restored system does not recognise the back up drive as a time machine and it would appear I cannot append any future backups to this TM.
I would have to wipe the disk and start again which I did not particularly want to do.
