System  profiler /Software/extension/FW Audio  question

can anyone tell me what their fw audio version says in 10.4.11? I did a fw audio downgrade and now I am having some problems I think may be from that. Also does anyone know how to update it

My version of AppleFWAudio is 2.2.0, with a kext version of 2.2.0fc9. Use Pacifist if a different version is needed.

  • System Profiler Software "Kind" is blank???

I'm trying to weed out the PowerPC applications on my MacBook Pro before I install Lion.  I've found all of the PowerPC "Kinds" but there are some applications with NOTHING in the "Kind" column.  What are these?  Thanks.

More than likely, Xcode Tools apps or AppleScript items. Click on them and you'll be shown where they live.

  • Why are applications not listed in System Profiler?

    Hi Apple Support Community,
System Profiler -> Software -> Applications displays "No information found." instead of the expected list of 64bit / 32bit applications installed.  What could cause this and how can I get System Profiler to rescan the applications installed?
    Thank you,
    System Version:          Mac OS X 10.6.8 (10K549)
    Kernel Version:          Darwin 10.8.0
    64-bit Kernel and Extensions:          Yes

Discussion thread http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11077939 suggests Applications are not displayed in System Profiler because I purposefully disabled Spotlight for performance reasons and the indexing of external drives.

  • I thought I deleted downloaded BlackBerry software, but it remained even after I did a system restore. I manually deleted it from the Apps folder, but it's still in System Profiler under Apps. How do I delete this from System Profiler?

Right now, it seems as if it is still showing in System Profiler, then the unnecessary BlackBerry software I downloaded from the internet is still using memory, right? How do I permanently delete it?

In addition to what Drew wrote, remember the Mac has a data fork and a resource fork.
Here is an old thread but a nice recap by Dr. Smoke
    ._Files
Note that the ._file files you note are the resource forks of Mac files you copied to the drive from your Mac, and these are only visible when you use the Flash drive on a PC. These are normal and indicate the Flash drive is already formatted for Windows.
When you copy or save a file from a Mac OS X system to a Windows shared volume or a Windows-formatted disk, the Mac creates two files: the data fork (xxx) and the resource fork (._xxx). This is called Apple Double Format and is normal. The resource fork contains additional data about the file that is exclusive to the Mac that cannot be saved otherwise on Windows-formatted disks. This is new with Mac OS X, as documented in Mac OS X: Apple Double Format Creates File Name With the Prefix '._'.
The resource fork files (._xxx) are necessary if you want to copy the file back to the Mac and retain the metadata. The resource forks of files are invisible when they are used on the Mac: the Mac OS Extended file system (aka HFS Plus or HFS+) uses forked files, with a file having both data and resource forks.
You can delete the resource forks on the Windows disk if and only if you don't care about losing the resource fork information should you copy them back to the Mac, such as comments, image preview icon, etc. Some Mac applications use the resource fork data, so deleting the resource fork can be problematic if you copy the file back to the Mac. Likewise moving the file while not also moving its associated resource fork when using the data on a PC can result in problems when using some files again on the Mac.
You can't prevent the resource forks from being created if you copy or save files from the Mac to the Windows share or Windows-formatted disk via Finder.

  • After 10.6.4 Update - "Audio"-Tab in System-Profiler messed up

    Hey everybody,
I installed the 10.6.4 Combo-Update right after it's been released. Everything works fine but one "cosmetic" bug. In "System-Profiler > Audio" it seems like something really got screwed.
I posted my problem in other forums and it seems like everybody else is having that problem, too - right after installing 10.6.4 Update.
Here you can see an image that shows what I mean:
    http://img.skitch.com/20100617-ddpgahtwdywmasb5jc5kbsnb2b.jpg
So Apple, hope you're gonna fix this any time before 10.6.5 comes out

Same problem in Snow Leopard 10.6.4 Italian Language,

Since Lion, system profiler is now a question mark in the dock. Can I get it back? dsso

In Lion, there is no Systim Profiler. It is System Information now located in the Utilities Folder. Open that up and select to keep it in the Dock.
Drag the icon for system profiler off the Dock.

  • Error: Required (PACE) Software extensions are missing!

    Hello,
since I've installed the WAVES-Vintage Demo a few days ago I've got nothing but troubles with my system.
I've loaded the Mercury Bundle and installed it to my mac. Okay, I forgot to delete the plug ins which I haven't any authorization so I've got troubles with the auval but that was another problem I solved. Since then evry time I open Logic I got the Error Message: required software extensions are missing, and the question if I would like to go to the PACE site to download the software. The crazy thing is that I have installed the Interlock Extensions, otherwise my own Waves plug ins wouldn't run before I got the Vintage Demo. But if Logic want it again okay I do what it said and install the file which is on my mac again. After that Logic opens without any error messages, but the next day I had the same procedure as every day... Error message... Installation...everything runs...
BUT TODAY LOGIC CRASHES without any reason while I was mixing a song. That happens the last time...oh I can't remember...I thought I had a solid system!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Any suggestions what I should do?

    Hey Klotzi,
the error message you get could actually come from one or several Waveshells that has no corresponding Waves plug-ins in the Waves plug-ins folder.
I suggest that first of all you drag all those Waves Plug-ins that have no valid license, or expired demo license from the folder "Applications>Waves>Waves Plug-Ins" to the folder "Applications>Waves>Waves Plug-Ins>Unused Plug-Ins".
Now in the Waves>Authorizers-Folder, run all the Waves AU Reg Util applications and note how much plug-ins they report. Those that report "0 AU plug-ins" will probably still have their waveshell in your plug-in folder for the Logic AU plug-ins at "..Library>Audio>Plug-Ins>Components".
Remove those waveshells that had the Waves AU Reg Util report "0 plug-ins" from the components folder.
For instance, the Mercury installer installs the Waveshell-AU 5.0.5, 5.2, 5.5 and 5.7 AFAIK.
Depending on which Waves plug-ins you really own, you will probably only need 5.0.5 and 5.2 or so, the AU Reg Utilities will tell you.
    Good luck
    Toby

  • System Profiler Has Duplicate Copies of Apps, why?

I have 2 identical model enterprise disks from WD @7200rpm, 1TB. When I run the Black Magic disk speed test program, the newest disk reports read& write @ 116 mbps and the older disk reports about 126 mbps. That difference is enough to enable the older disk to make HD video transfer speeds, but not the identical new disk.
I started to try to figure why there was such a difference and went to the System Profiler to dig for info. What I saw in both drives under Software then Applications was multiple instances of app files which can be clearly (but small) seen in this screen grab:
    Questions:
    1) Is this double & sometimes triple instances of the app normal? Look at Chess as an example it has 5 instances, same version, same day, etc.
    2) What's going on here? Are these multiple copies of each app saved to the drive?
    a) If so, how does one go about deleting the "extra" copies, or are they some Phantom of the Profiler lurking about?
    b) If not, why are the entries that are identical in version & date needed? Seems redundant to me.
    c) Could this have been produced by the migration assistant?
    3) Is this why there is a difference in read & write speed? The older disk, which is faster, has less data on it. The newer disk has more data on, it but only takes up about 300 gig which leaves lots of open space.

Hey TT...sorry for the long delay in following up. But you were right on the money! I ONLY download app's via my iPod because I have two iMac's... one at home and one at work. And early on, I found that unless iTunes sync set up exactly between the two computers, my sync's would be off, games removed, highest record in the world gone, etc.
So, my work around was to always manage my app's on the device and NEVER sync app's via iTunes. However, I "transfer purchases" all the time, just to make sure each computer has the same app's on it, but never sync.
So, this is why I'm seeing so many duplicates! Your answer was right on the money! Look like I can safely delete any of the renumbered ones. I don' think I need to worry about pointing iTunes the correct version, because I never use iTunes to sync app's.
If I only had one computer, then sure. But this is the only way that I can think of to make sure my device stays the way I want it, and avoid a sync messing it up.
    Thanks!
    Jason

  • Built-in speakers not showing in sounds or System profiler

    Hi all,
I've just bought a 2nd hand eMac 1Ghz model. Having logged in and checked over the installed software (just the basics) and connected to my home network, I tried starting up iTunes to listen to internet radio. I noticed that there was no sound, although I hadn't noticed the lack of startup chime! First thing I checked was the volume, which was set to max, and then popped in headphones - which work. I checked the options in Sound and noticed that all that is listed for the devices is the headphones. After a bit of searching online I found suggestions to Archive and Repair OS X, which didn't solve the problem, I then did a clean install of OS X and used the System Restore discs that came with the eMac to re-install all the software. Again, no joy. After another search online I spotted a suggestion here regarding System Profiler, so I checked this and found that there is no Audio listing under Hardware.
Can anyone suggest what I can try to get the speakers appearing, and working again? I'm a bit of a novice with Macs, although I've worked on a G5 previously, this is the first Mac I've owned! With a PC I'd expect it to be a case of a loose soundcard, but I haven't the foggiest where to start looking inside a Mac!
    Thanks in advance!

This is a long shot. On some Mac laptops, an out-of-spec phono-plug can jam a contact within the jack in the "mute speakers" position and exhibit the symptoms you've described. The first check is to shine a light into the jack to see if there is a foreign object present.
Although the affected jack on the notebooks is a newer technology, you might try the lo-tech fix that usually works on the newer units: insert a standard mini-plug and GENTLY wiggle the plug in the horizontal plane. If that doesn't restore sound when you remove the plug, try the same thing but wiggle in the vertical plane. Last is to wiggle the plug in a circular motion.
Worth a try. The fact that the headphones work pretty much precludes the sound hardware (soldered to the logic board) from being the culprit. You may find that using a cheap set of external speakers is the better-sounding option and MUCH easier than taking an eMac apart. I have a pair of "no-name" speakers I picked up for US$2 at a yard sale that are far better than the little internal speakers.

  • System Profiler shows no boot volume

I have a G4 imac and I'm trying to upgrade to Tiger. It meets all the reqs and the disc is the retail full version installer. The installer freezes at the select destination screen. It shows the harddrive but it is faded out and I get the spinny thing. In the System Profiler the boot volume under Software Overview is blank.
First question is: That shouldn't be blank correct?
Second question is: Why is it blank?
Third question is: What do I do about that?

This is the discussion area for the iMac G3 CRT.
The iMac G4s are discussed in the iMac > iMac (Flat Panel) > Using your iMac (Flat Panel) discussion area.

  • System Profiler Content File Directory Location?

    Hello,
I recently changed out my microprocessor in my PowerBook G3 because my old one was not working properly. All works fine now as it is smoothly running 10.4.11. However, I look in system profiler and the serial number has changed to the new microprocessor and does not match the sticker on the bottom on the machine. I managed to modify the "About This Mac" and "Login Window" serial number just fine, but I am stumped regarding system profiler. I did research and found that in 10.5, you can manually input the serial by finding a "SMBIOS" type file architecture in the extensions folder of System>Library. My question is:
Where can I find the system files that give System Profiler its information. or Where can I find the equivalent in 10.4 to 10.5's SMBIOS system files.I appreciate any advice. Please indicate the entire file directory so I can easily find the location of the files I need to modify. Have a nice day.

I suspect that System Profiler gets the serial number either by an internal call to the I/O registry which in turn has gotten it from the logic board firmware, or else directly from the firmware itself. If either of these mechanisms is correct, then there are NO files that carry the serial number, and therefore I think there is probably nothing you can change. This may be incorrect, but so far I've seen no evidence of a datafile that has this information.
By way of background, here is my understanding. Hopefully I will be corrected if I am wrong:
A file is a particular type of data structure, a collection of bytes assembled by the operating system in a specific way. Files usually reside on physical storage devices such as disk drives, and persist even after the computer is turned off. A user with sufficient privileges can generally access the information stored in a file.
There are, however, other types of OS data structures in the "kernel," below the level of the user interface. These structures are not files - it is not that they are "hidden files" or "system files" - they are not files at all. These data structures exist in a protected space that users cannot alter.
    ioreg -l | grep IOPlatformSerialNumber | awk '{ print $4 }'
I have no idea exactly "where" this piece of information is coming from, meaning the serial number that appears. It would be greatly appreciated if you could help me track down exactly where on the system the terminal command here is pulling this info from. It clearly gets it from some place, but it just may not be something we can see on the system as an object.
According to the link I posted earlier, the ioreg terminal command directly displays (but cannot alter) the I/O registry. This data structure is not a file, and does not exist in the filesystem that you access via the GUI or via Terminal filesystem commands. Even worse, the link said:
the Registry is not stored on disk or archived between boots. Instead, it is built at each system boot and resides in memory
What this means is that the I/O Registry resides only in RAM - it is completely destroyed when you turn off the computer, and gets rebuilt when you start back up. And again, it is not a file.
That's why I said "This doesn't sound promising"!
there has to be a way to override the "connection" between the dynamic database itself and how it obtains information from it.
If System Profiler.app does either read the I/O registry or read the firmware directly, then this instruction may be hardcoded in the app itself. I don't know this, but if so then I don't think there is any way to get it to look "somewhere else."
Good luck, but I think this project is going to be "The Impossible Dream"

  • 8021.x EAP-TLS "User" vs "System" profile problems

Hello. I have a macbook using EAP-TLS (wired) with digital certificate authentication. Finally, it's working but I have the following workarounds/questions.
    1. I have had to set the Username field to "HOST/<machine FQDN>". Other systems (ie: Windows) prepend "HOST/" automatically. Is this a known limitation or is there something I can/should do to have OS/X pull out the certificate identity and put it in as "host/identity" in response to the Identity EAP request?
    2. This works fine for USER profiles, but I cannot get a SYSTEM profile to work. When I setup a SYSTEM profile, it screws with the keychain (my root CA has to be explicitly trusted, and the SYSTEM profile only turns on Trust for eapolclient), and the auth fails. There's not enough logging detail (LogLevel=1 only gives you a network trace...) to see what's going on, so I'll ask the experts here - what's going on?
I concede that I have played around with System profiles quite a bit, so maybe I need to delete the system profile and restart but I don't know how to do that.
    Thanks!

Assuming you're using the stock XP wifi client.
When running XPSP3, you need to set two things:
    1) force one registry setting.
    According to
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc755892%28WS.10%29.aspx#w2k3tr_wir_tools_uzps
You need to force usage of machine cert-store certificate:
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\EAPOL\Parameters\General\Global]
    "AuthMode"=dword:00000002
    2) add the ACS certificate signing CA to the specific SSID profile "trusted CA".
    - show available wireless networks
    - change advanced settings
    - wireless networks tab
    - select your SSID, and then hit the "properties" button
    - select authentication tab, and then hit "properties" button
    - search for your signing CA, and check the box.
I did with a not-so-simple autoIT script, using the "native wifi functions" addon.
Unfortunately I'm not allowed to share the script outside the company, but I'll be more than happy to review yours.
    please cross reference to

  • System Profiler Crash

    Hi All!
Trying to check my applications for compatibility in preparation for a Lion upgrade, I attempted to use System Profiler to list all my applications by kind -- i.e., intel native, PowerPC, etc.
But, when I click on "Applications" under "Software" in System Profiler, it crashes. Reliably crashes, even after a reboot.
Anyone else experience this or have thoughts about what might be the cause? I've never had System Profiler crash before.
    Thanks,
