System recovery doesn't work

Hi, and thanks, When I use my system restore it says it cannot restore my computer to an earlier date or it cannot un-do an earlier restore date. It says that the reason is because I probably have an anti-virus program running--I don't, I have it disabled. I get error #--0x80070005--
My problem is that everytime I click on an 'icon' on my desltop it automatically sends me to notepad, not the internet. I can't find anything about fixing this problem. I figured if I restore back a day or two that problem would be resolved. Of course, I am not that knowlegable about computers. Oh, I have Windows 7 on a laptop L505. Windows 7 came pre-installed.

When I use my system restore .. I get error #--0x80070005--
Sometimes the restore-point files get corrupt, Rich. The only way to fix that is by turning System Restore off and then on again. Unfortunately, all the restore-points are wiped out in the process.

Any icon at all? Tell us about the icons on your desktop.
Make a new shortcut on the desktop and see if that works right.
   Create or delete a shortcut
Take a look here to see if all of the associations on your computer have been set to open notepad.exe.
   Change which programs Windows uses by default
Which L505 is that? There's a label on the bottom.

Option System recovery doesn't work

Notebook Lenovo G50-30 (80G0) - bought a month ago. (Windows 8.1)
Few days ago sound stopped work suddenly. I suspect that this is associated with MS Updates, which was set as automatic. I suspect because this notebook is not my. But now I have it for repair. I noticed that system work abnormally, when I try to use some function from control panel it doesn't work and control panel stop responding. For example update settings.
I decided restore system to factory setting, using NOVO key and option System Recovery. Unfortunately when I choose this option nothing happens and computer loading operating system as usually. I try use software OneKeyRecovery and after it sytuation is the same.
Important information is that system partition C was divided into two parts/partitions. And it was my first clue that something is wrong with ID partitions, but maybe i'm wrong. I change it and set one C volume.
Diskpart shows 5 volumes (0-4), the last one is the recovery partition like below:

Can you try to create a recovery drive and use it to Refresh or Reset Windows 8/8.1.
If that doesn't work, you can try the folliwing to reinstall the OS:
1. Check this guide on how to obtain a Windows 8.1 ISO (see Option One)
2. After you set Boot Mode to UEFI in the BIOS, follow this guide to make a bootable UEFI Win8.1 installer via DVD/USB flashdrive and use it to install Windows 8.1 on the G50-30 (the installation should be able to detect the Windows 8.1 product key in the UEFI firmware that will let you activate Windows).
Note:
The above method (Steps 1-2) will only re-install Windows (you will need to reinstal the drivers manually from the G50-30 drivers page)

Windows Server 2008 - Now F11 Recovery doesn't work

Greetings all--
I decided to experiment with my TouchSmart 504 and installed Windows Server 2008 (32 bit). However, since 2008 doesn't seem to like the onboard NIC, I wanted to go back to Vista 64, but now the F11 option to go into system recovery doesn't work. No matter how many times I press it, it just goes back into W2K8. Being something less than smart, I didn't make any recovery disks (couldn't find where to do so). I've ordered the recovery media, but is there anything I can do in the meantime?

You did the right thing - use recovery discs. To see if the recovery data is still on the HD, go in and see if you still have the recovery partition on the hard drive.

The OneKey Recovery doesn't work. Can't restore my Ideapad U460

Hi,
I am trying to restore my Lenovo U460 to factory condition but the onekey recovery doesn't work.
Everytime I open it it just wont let me choose any options as in the picture below.

System Recovery is not working From HP Recovery Manager. so i cant restore my laptop to its original factory condition. (Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium).
so when i restart my computer and press Esc and then choose F11 i get this message :

Had the C partition been split/shrunk to form a new partition previously?
Does disk management show the HDD as basic or dynamic? (Start>Right-click Computer>Manage>disk management on the left).
If it has been switched to dynamic (Windows does this automatically when more than 4 partitions are present on the disk), then the F11 recovery partition won't function until it is restored to basic, but I would like to confirm that is the scenario before providing those steps.
The Disk management shows that my HDD as Dynamic, what should i do then if this is the case and the possible solution to my problem?

If you have more than 4 partitions you will need to delete the extra partition/partitions, then convert the hdd back to Basic.

MS-6702 (K8t neo) Flashed but now nothing, bios recovery doesn't work!!

I updated my bios to the latest one a few weeks back and have been having problems with setting my apeture size to 256 (Noticed a few other people have too here!)
So I reverted the bios back to the one before which I never had any problems with and now my board appears dead
I get no post screen and the optical drives all constantly seek for some strange reason, I've since unattached everything apart from my agp card, ram, processor and floppy drive in a bid to get bios recovery to work. Sadly it doesn't even try to read the floppy and just sits there feeling sorry for itself.
The LED bracket stays at 4 red lights but nothing else happens. I've had this rig for over 5 months so I know it's not the components before anyone suggests it.
This is doing my head in, thanks MSI firstly for releasing a buggy bios and secondly for killing my board

Have you tried clearing CMOS?
If that doesn't work your board is probably beyond recall. You have two choices:
1. Try to RMA it to MSI or your vendor.
2. Replace the BIOS chip
I have used (2) on several occasions with other vendor's systems. This works if the chip is socketed. I use BIOSFLASH.COM (http://biosflash.com/) - you have to ID your chip, tell them what you have, pay some money and e-mail them a copy of the binary you want programmed. They have a well-documented procedure on their website.
I would recommend getting at least two chips - one known good and one with the latest BIOS. That way you can recover from another problem like this one.
Looking at the example K8T Neo2 ATX board on MSI's site the BIOS is socketed but that may not be true of yours. I have a K8MM-ILSR with a soldered BIOS here, so not all their BIOS chips are socketed.
BTW, which method of flashing did you use? From DOS, I hope...running a BIOS flash from Windows is a recipe for disaster (that's why I know about BIOSFLASH.COM)

this happens only on development server and it work into test server, so i don't think that the problem is in grants(i controlled that are the same and i have tried with DBA grant too and we received the error).
Another strange thing is that tablespace 'RMCCO_RMC_UTZ_PP080531' is not included into the dump that i try to import and it doesn't exist in the database.

With Firefox 7 my computer is slower to boot up and shut down. When typing the website I want in the address bar the old firefox took me straight to the site now it takes me to Google. Change system password doesn't work in WLS 6.1, 7.0

we have problem with changing the passoword for system. and we check the fileRealm.properties
file, the new password is not there. it seems the changing password in weblogic
console doesn't work for 6.1 and 7.0. Any one have idea what's going on with this
security issue.

IMac G5 System Profiler doesn't work?

My system profiler doesn't open. Cannot find in anywhere, applications or any other area. Is it Lost. Can I reinstall, any help would be appreciated

If you are not successful from re-running the combo update, remember to do a Permissions repair on the entire hard drive using the First Aid panel of Applications>Utilities>Disk Utility.
Also, boot from the current OS's install disc 1, find that version of Disk Utility among the pull downs at the top of the display, and do a Disk Repair on the entire hard drive, rerunning it repeatedly if necessary until it reports that no repairs are necessary.

[Virtual user mail system] guide doesn't work.

I'm new to setting up a mail server so I consulted with this article [https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Vi … ail_system]. However this guide doesn't work. I cannot either send or receive mail. I looked into logs and apparently the contents of virtual_alias_maps.cf / virtual_mailbox_domains.cf / virtual_mailbox_maps.cf are not correct. The database postfixadmin created doesn't even have those tables or columns. And I kept getting "Access Denied: postfix_user@localhost (Password:Yes)" something like that. And I'm sure I entered the correct username/password combination. Don't limit yourself to the Arch wiki - it's useful, but it's not the only resource available to you, and as you have discovered, it is not always current and/or correct.
All the components you are working with come with their own documentation, that should be your first reference point. Beyond that, look for Postfix tutorials in general i.e. not just for Arch, again bearing in mind that they also may not be current/correct.
When you have found what you need and completed your setup, you then have the option of Doing The Right Thing by updating/correcting the relevant wiki pages, followed very shortly after by the warm glow known only to those who contribute.

T420S-- USB recovery doesn't work

Just create a USB recovery disk via ThinkVantage. It takes about 10GB( I used a 16GB USB disk). However, when I try to use it to boot the laptop, it shows " Error loading operation system". Unfortuanlly, I only can create this disk one time via ThinkVantage software. Now if my HDD is gone, I do not have any way to have it work again. Anybody have same issue? please help. Source system conversion doesn't work after transport

Just transported a query to BW Production and found that the source system is still the same as in DEV.
The conversion is there (QAS-->PRD). But the conversion doesn't seem working in the transport.
Can anyone tell me how to troubleshoot this issue?

Scanner sharing in System Preferences doesn't work

I have an Epson AcuLaser CX11NF networked by ethernet with a couple of other devices and my Mac Pro, and a wireless LAN connected to BT Infinity for broadband access. The various MacBooks and remote desktop Macs rely on the wireless network for access to the Epson. Print access through printer sharing works fine, but I can't establish scanner sharing. In System Preferences > Sharing, Scanner Sharing is ticked, but no scanner appears in the window (I was expecting something analogous to the Printer Sharing pair, Printers: and Users:, but there is just one window). In System Preferences > Print & Fax, with the Epson and the Scan tab selected, if I tick the box for "Share this scanner on the network", it doesn't stay ticked. If I navigate to another preference pane and return, it is unticked.
Further evidence that something is failing to work properly comes from System Preferences > Security > Firewall > Advanced..., where File Sharing (AFP), Printer Sharing, and Web Sharing all show "Allow incoming connections" as they should, but Scanner Sharing doesn't appear.
NB: 10.6.8 on all OS X machines in question. We've got Lion on a MacBook Air, but we're not even trying this with the Epson yet.
What's going wrong?

No, it's located in a different room from the router; neither can be changed. It's not plugged directly into a Mac, but into an ethernet switch into which the Mac is also plugged.
Surely if I could plug it into the router, that would make it directly accessible to all devices on the wireless network. That's not the issue. Because I can't do that, I want to make it available through Scanner Sharing. This is what isn't working, although Printer Sharing of the same device in the same configuration is working.

Product Recovery doesn't work

I seem to have been having crashes on my computer so I decided to use the product recovery CDs. Every time I try to restore it, it crashes part way through writing the Ghost image to the hard disk. Could all this be due to a virus/bug on the hard drive and therefore needs formatting? If so, with a USB how do I get it to boot from USB to format the hard drive? Or is there another explanation?

When I've needed to reload my a50, I do it this way:
Back up anything that I want to keep.
Boot from the recovery DVD, then press 9 to quit to a DOS prompt
Type fdisk, then answer yes to both the questions it asks you. Select to delete all primary partitions. Exit fdisk.
Reboot from the recovery DVD again. Press one to reload the factory image.
This has worked every time for me apart from once when it wouldn't boot afterwards due to a file becoming corrupted during the restore. I restored again and it worked with no errors.
