System recovery: how to install what I need only?

Recently I had to restore the system from hidden recovery partition, and of course, I got a lot of garbage which I don't need (fingerprint and face recognition for example). Is there a way to instal a "clear system"? I mean a Windows and drivers only.
Thank you

The easiest way is to recover using the recovery partition or recovery media then remove the things you don't want or need. If you take off something needed to run properly you can use the system restore feature in Windows or fully recover again until you get the laptop as clean as you want it.
If you want to do a clean install of Windows 7 make sure you can read the Microsoft number on the tag from the bottom of the laptop, you will have to use the same version as the one listed. Your spec sheet shows Windows 7 Home premium 64 bit Spk 1. Use others if you have a valid key and disc to do so.
INSTRUCTIONS:
First - Burn recovery media before you make any changes! -you may want or need to go back later.
Insert your windows 7 disc and select custom install, your partitions should show up - click on each one and below you will see advanced drive options, click that and you will have options to format - format each one, then delete each one. You will be left with one raw partition, select to install and windows will do the rest while installing the operating system.
Install drivers - Drivers will have to installed one at a time and can be found on your support page, select Windows 7 64 bit.
Installation order is important:
Install chipset driver then video driver before other drivers. Then install Toshiba Value added package before other applications.

As a troubleshooter, I've always been amazed at the number of files people stash on their desktop, number of installed applications, number of installed plugins, etc... Some people try to fill their hard drives to an extreme. The lesson learned here, which I hope to pass on to anyone reading this tip, keep it simple. Only install what you need, and nothing more. Archive away anything you wish to keep for posterity, but don't just let it hang out unless you might need it right away. Backup your data religiously, and remember to keep at least two copies of your data, and preferably at least one off site.
For every added driver, font, plugin, and widget you might find one that doesn't work well with another, or one that may not have been tested with your operating system. If you don't ensure they are known to work well together, you are building what is idiomatically called a "house of cards" or "jalopy."
And the more you add, the more that can go wrong. The more you add, the longer you'll spend the time of you or your troubleshooter solving problems. And remember, time itself is money. So be careful, and only add what you need to your system. Practice good judgement. If unsure if something extra is necessary, ask on the board.

  • HT4718 How do I install the seperate system recovery partition after installing OSX on an external drive?

My Mac Mini (2011 - Mountain Lion) died on me and I'm trying to get Internet Recovery (or ANY recovery) to work.  I have done the hold down D on boot hardware test and the extensive test and it says all is well. However Internet Recovery downloads (or appears to) and then I just get a never-ending spinning wheel and Apple logo.
I just installed Lion 10.7 from my older Mini that can't run Mountain Lion onto the newer Mini's hard drive as an external disk.  How can I get the recovery partition added to that disk too?

Google recovery disk assistant. Hopefully that'll be what you need.

  • System Recovery disks not installing on new SDD drive

    Hi
I have upgraded from the original HDD drive to SDD drive.
I firstly cloned the old drive and installed the image but then windows updates would not work.
Looking at all forums and tried everything I read but updates still didn't work.
Finally formatted the drive and then used the original system restore disks that work fine on the old hard drive but Windows end up retsarting continuously after all 3 disks installed .
It is trying to finish off the installation but then gets and error and restarts and just loops over and over.
Is it something to do with the 4 k sectors?
    Do I need other drivers?
How do I factory re-install my Windows 7 on the new SSHD drive?
    Thanks

    Hi
    > Finally formatted the drive and then used the original system restore disks that work fine on the old hard drive but Windows end up restarting continuously after all 3 disks installed
Usually the Toshiba Recovery disks should install the Toshiba image on the new HDD or SSD drive and the unit should boot properly.
To be honest, Im not quite sure why the notebook keeps restarting after the installation.
But I assume it has something to do with the partitions and partitions sizes.
Fact is that Toshiba recovery disks would format the HDD (or SSD) and would create the same partitions and partitions sizes.
In case the system installation would not function using the Recovery disks, I would recommend you trying to install the system using the Microsoft clean Windows CD. The essential drivers could be downloaded from Toshiba EU driver page.

  • Does Recovery disk contains everything what is needed

Im wanted to fix my mates laptop for him. He has the recovery disc but I want to make sure that along with windows the system drivers are also on the disc.
I ask this because I have made the mistake before of reinstalling windows and then finding out I needed the system drivers! So could someone just guarantee me that if I wipe the hard drive the "TOSHIBA Product Recovery" disc has EVERYTHING I need!
Please get back to me asap!

I dont know what you need for which purposes you need your notebook but Toshiba recovery image contains everything for well working hardware. The recovery image contains:
    - Operating system
    - All necessary drivers
    - Different Toshiba tools and utilities to make better and much simpler control over different notebook functions
    - Additional software like DVD player, Acrobat reader, Norton AntiVirus and so on
With short words yes it contains everything you need for start. Later you can install some specific software for your private work or business purposes.

  • MSDN Win7 upgrade + partitioning + able to use System Recovery. how?

I have installed throught a clean install on my T400 (recently bought, no important files yet), and I have resized my C drive so I have a new D partition. But after partitioning the system recovery through blue button (ThinkVantage) will not work. I did not purchase a Windows 7 license off lenovo because my University gave us MSDN subscriptions for Win 7 Pro.
So here I am asking: What is, if there is one, the perfect solution, to upgrade from Vista 32bit (Recovered from backup disks) to Windows 7 x64, and split C: into two partitions, while at the same time, allow F11 at start up to work and recovery C: drive without erasing my other partitions.
    Thank you, I know this is probably one of the most often answered questions on this forum... If there is already a solution to this, sorry about that because I couldn't find a post talking about this ^^;;;
    Solved!

    Hi:
looks like you wan to run your PC on Windows 7, but also want to have that recovery feature in place.
You can do one of two options:
    Option A:
-Perform a clean install of Windows 7
-Download System Update 4.0 from lenovo.com
-Select ALL updates indicated from the scan.
-after those are installed, run Windows Update, install all updates, then install ALL of your additional software.
-once your PC is completely set up, Run Rescue and Recovery (in the thinkvantage folder); if it is not in your pc, you can download this from Lenovo.com.  Create a harddrive Backup of your PC.
Youre Done.  You now have a new image installed in your PC that works using the "Blue button" (Rescue and recovery is the program that runs when you press this button).
    Option B:
If you can get your hands on the New Recovery Discs for Windows 7, you can instal the entire Factory image of New Lenovo Notebooks built after 10/22.  Not only will you have the setup you want, the Enhanced Experience ("EE" rating) given to those new notebooks will apply to your PC as well.  Good Luck, They will be hard to find (unless you can find a person with the new laptop - they can burn the recovery disks for you right from their Notebook.

  • HT201304 How to install Whats app in I pad tocuh

I need help in installing Whats app and Google earth

First of all, what is an "iPad Touch"? Are you talking about an iPad? Or are you talking about an iPod Touch?
Second, Whatsapp is an iPhone only app. It can't be installed on either an iPad or a Touch.
What problems are you having installing Google Earth? If it's simply that you can't find it in the App Store, then that's because Google doesn't offer it in whatever country you're in. If you're having some other problem, please explain what it is.
    Best of luck.

  • Efficiency - How to load what you need.

    Hello,
I am pondering the scenario of using object oriented programming and filling a report efficiently. I am hoping someone could provide insight or direct me to existing patterns.
Let's say I want to create a report of all employees. Great, my first thought is have a Employee class and Employee Container. Load all the employee objects and all the n attributes. Loop through to display.
What about if I only wanted a select few of the employees in the report. I could loop through all as above looking for the correct criteria, however, I would much rather let the database do that. So what is a good way to specify criteria to load the employees.
Another is what if I only want 2 of the n attributes. How can I get around loading all the attributes of the Employee? Keeping in mind that I don't want to know anything about the database at the business object level.
This is really only part of the problem. I'm sure everyone goes through it so there must be best practices and/or patterns to help.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Note, I didn't actually run this in a database to verify that it worked. Only verification I did was to print out on the console what the SQL statement was.
    bash-2.03$ java Example
SELECT * person WHERE name = bob AND age >= 21

  • How to install iPhoto an DVD  only from my iLife 09 disk

Following hard drive replacement I now have Snow Leopard. I tried to install iphoto and DVD only from iLife 09 disk but could not find a way to install them only.
The full bundle will use all the free disk space I have which is 4 gbs. Following install of SnowLeopard from new disk iphoto and DVD did not install.

You can do what you want
    BUT
you need a minimum of 10 GB of free space for normal operations so you need to find a way to reduce disk usage - 4 GB is not enough and will cause slow operation and possible damage to systems or data
You seriously need to free up disk space - moving your iPhoto library to an external drive may be the answer -
Moving the iPhoto library is safe and simple - quit iPhoto and drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity to the external drive - depress the option key and launch iPhoto using the "select library" option to point to the new location on the external drive - fully test it and then trash the old library on the internal drive (test one more time prior to emptying the trash)
And be sure that the External drive is formatted Mac OS extended (journaled) (iPhoto does not work with drives with other formats) and that it is always available prior to launching iPhoto
And backup soon and often - having your iPhoto library on an external drive is not a backup and if you are using Time Machine you need to check and be sure that TM is backing up your external drive

  • Installing Apple downloads/ updates--how to determine what I need

After searching for a number of downloads that are referenced in the discussions as possible fixes, I am trying to sort out which I should install on my imac. For instance, I see that the Graphics Update 1.0 and the Time Machine update (addressing the interface with Time Capsule) have helped solve some issues.
Looking at the release date for both these updates, I see that the 10.5.3 combo update, which I installed, is more recent. As a matter of practice, can I assume that the Graphics Update and the Time Machine update are included in the combo update because they were released prior? I looked in the details on the Combo update page, but I didn't see specifics as to what previous downloads it included.
I would like to know how one knows which updates, or other downloads, one should install.
I've had a number of performance issues since installing the combo update. They include:
    -machine running slowly
-many freezes that require shut down
-force quit does not always work
-Time Machine will not find the backup volume after the mac has gone to sleep (this happens with Firewire only, USB seems to work)
In addition to the question of how as a matter of practice to determine which downloads I should install, and how to figure out which downloads/updates I already have after installing a system update such as the Combo 10.5.3, if anyone has any solutions for my list of issues, please comment.
    Thanks,
