So, if you're developing commercial software doesn't
that mean you might have problems?
The GPL doesn't prevent commercial use.It prevents you making improvements and then keeping them for yourself (Something most corporations like to do). So long as you aren't distributing the binary you don't have to distribute the source, so if it's a program for internal use only there won't be any trouble.
Which is assuming you're working for someone under their licence - if you're free I'd recommend going totally GPL anyway :)

However, i don't know how to retrieve the following information of my SAP system:

where can i learn everything there is to know about a system registry of a computer. any websites that give detailed information on this issue?
Is there a java class which i can use to access the system registry and make changes to it. for the time being, assume i have admin access to a system.
i am new to this forum. just joined. so pls xcuse me if i have done anything i am not supposed to or in any way not followed any rules while posting this question.

10g client install -- "Error in accessing system registry"

Yes, I am the administrator - there is just one account on my machine and it is me.
I am attempting to install 10g client in hopes of fixing another problem. Everything is a problem it seems.
When I launch setup.exe I get ...
"Error in accessing system registry. You may not have enough permissions to modify registry. Installation cannot continue."
My environment is ... Windows 7 Pro, I do have an Oracle Express Edition installed but since I am having a 32-bit vs. 64-bit issue with an app I am developing in C# 2008 Express, I thought I would try installing the 64-bit 10g standard edition client.

I had to open a command prompt with Administrator privileges. I was tipped off by your link which had paragraph 1.4 Managing User Accounts with User Account Control and states,
To ensure that only trusted applications run on your computer, Windows Vista, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, and Windows 7 provide User Account Control. If you have enabled this security feature, then, depending on how you have configured it, Oracle Universal Installer prompts you for either your consent or your credentials when installing Oracle Database. Provide either the consent or your Windows Administrator credentials as appropriate.
You must have Administrator privileges to run some Oracle tools, such as Database Configuration Assistant, Net Configuration Assistant, and OPatch, or to run any tool or application that writes to any directory within the Oracle home. If User Account Control is enabled, and you are logged in as the local Administrator, then you can successfully run each of these commands in the usual way. However, if you are logged in as "a member of the Administrator group," then you must explicitly invoke these tasks with Windows Administrator privileges. All the Oracle shortcuts that require Administrator privileges will be invoked as "Administrator" automatically when you click the shortcuts. However, if you run the above tools from a Windows command prompt, you must run them from an Administrator command prompt. Issues installing vs 7 -System Registry

I eventually deleted all quick time files and attempts at installing vs 7 and successfully reinstalled quicktime - follow deletion of "temp" files instruction.
Did clean-up and new download when install gets to "System Registry" receive "Could not write value to Key\Software\Classes\.rmp\OpenWithList|iTunes.exe.
Verify access as administrator (which I am)
Wll not allow ignore only abort.
I am getting very frustrated with this. My son gave me the ipod and I am trying!!!!!!! ANY IDEAS WILL BE APPRECIATED.

You cannot change the background without jailbreaking the iPhone.
There is no equivalent to the system registry.

How do I stop Quicktime from placing itself in my system registry...

I do not want QT loaded all the time. It places itself in my startup programs and modifies my registry, two things that I do not want it to do.
How do I stop this program from sneaking into areas of my system that I don't want it to?

Yes, I know how to remove it.
What I'm saying is that it RE-loads itself constantly. This is not a bug or an error. In other words the program is designed so that it does this whether you want it to or not. I get a Microsoft Spyware Alert that informs me that Quicktime has once again hijacked my computer and has placed itself in my active programs, has modified my registry, has added itself to my system tray, and has added itself to my list of startup programs. None of these things are needed or desired. This is assinine, since I rarely use the program and don't need it eating up computer resources so it can sit in my system doing nothing. Once this "feature" has have to go in and remove it from all these places.
So short of simply getting one of the many Quicktime alternatives is there a way to keep this program from invading my system?

I have a problem with Discoverer Desktop 4.1.48.06
I must realise a MSI package for this application.
The package works and the application with administrators privileges works to !
But when I'm with users without rights I have this error when I launch Discoverer Desktop (DIS4USR.EXE)
After investigation with regmon I put full control for everyone on this keys but there is the same error :

Seems like you tried both and both failed....
Is it possible for you to upgrade your Discoverer release? Maybe you should consider this option because Discoverer 4.1.37 is no longer supported by Oracle.

The limitation of OS would be because of the processor speed- need a minimum of 867mhz to run Leopard.
If you were to upgrade to a 1.2ghz, or better, the OWC 1.5ghz processor, you would realize speed that would be worth the upgrade. This would also help you run more current software, and of course, Leopard.
The two processors that I think have the best performance vs. cost, are the OWC 1.5ghz 7455 based processor, and the Newertech 2.0ghz 7448 based processor. Both will run the more current softwares, run Leopard, improve graphics intensive work, and really increase performance over the OEM processors.
Of course, all other processor upgrades will increase performance, I just feel that these two offer the most "bang per buck".
FYI, the 1.5ghz (runs 1.47ghz in the DA) gets Xbench scores of 60-65(avg.). This is in comparison to the dual 533mhz DA which scores 30-35(avg.) That is a healthy boost, pretty much double, and moves the DA into the realm of dual 1.25ghz MDD scores.
BTW, the 1.2ghz bumps Xbench scores to 45-50.

@OP: a servlet executes at the server. It doesn't haved any access whatsoever to the client machine.

Windows 8.1 SOFTWARE registry hive load failed on Windows Server 2012

Hello,
I am participated in custom Windwows Software backup/restore project development that requires load of Windows SOFTWARE/SYSTEM registry hives from target OS system drive connected to Windows system.
On all Windows version except Windows 8.1 program works correctly but when host system (on that programm run on) is Windows Server 2012 or Windows 8 and target system is Windows 8.1 registry hive load failed with following error:
Failed to load f:\Windows\System32\config\software: [1009] The configuration registry database is corrupt.
After run of 'chkdsk /r' error still remained. All requred security privileges (SE_BACKUP, SE_RESTORE) are applied. All systems are 64-bit.
Generally even system registry editor (regedit) could not open SOFTWARE hive from Windows 8.1 with following error:
Cannot Load f:\Windows\System32\config\software: Error while loading hive.
But when host system is Windows 7 or Windwos Server 2008 then SOFTWARE hive loaded without any problem.
So is there some Windows 8/8.1 registry hives validation mechanism or additional security checks tha prevents load of registry hives fromother OS instance?

Sorry for later response. I was busy with other tasks.
The procMon tool shows RegLoadKey is failed when it tried to load the hive on Windows 8.1 (8.1 based WinPE also). On Windows 7, I didn't see the error (Shows Success instead of REGISTRY CORRUPT). Once the hive is load & unloaded on Windows 7 OS, the
check sum of the hive is changed, and I can load the updated hive with regedit in Windows 8.1 OS.
